FAA clears path for Boeing's grounded planes to resume flying despite reports of 'many' loose bolts

The Federal Aviation Administration announced Wednesday a clear path forward for Boeing's grounded 737-9 MAX planes to resume operations. An FAA press release revealed that the agency has completed its enhanced review and approved plans to proceed with its inspection and maintenance process. Once completed‚ the grounded planes will be authorized to return to service. However‚ as part of the FAA's latest announcement‚ Boeing was informed that it would not be approved to expand the production of its MAX aircraft. The company's 737-9 MAX was grounded due to an in-flight incident that occurred earlier this month. On January 5‚ an Alaska Airlines flight traveling from Portland‚ Oregon‚ to Ontario‚ California‚ was forced to make an emergency landing after a failed door bolt caused one of the plane's panels to blow out mid-flight. Despite the flight being nearly full‚ with only seven open seats‚ none of its 171 passengers or six crew members were seated next to the panel.Following the incident‚ Alaska Airlines performed an in-house inspection and reported finding "loose bolts on many" of its Boeing planes. United Airlines also found loose bolts on some of its aircraft.Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci told NBC News that the loose bolts would be "rectified through the inspection process."In a statement to the news outlet‚ Boeing said‚ "We have let down our airline customers and are deeply sorry for the significant disruption to them‚ their employees and their passengers.""We are taking action on a comprehensive plan to bring these airplanes safely back to service and to improve our quality and delivery performance. We will follow the lead of the FAA and support our customers every step of the way‚" the company added. On Wednesday‚ FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker remarked‚ "We grounded the Boeing 737-9 MAX within hours of the incident over Portland and made clear this aircraft would not go back into service until it was safe.""The exhaustive‚ enhanced review our team completed after several weeks of information gathering gives me and the FAA confidence to proceed to the inspection and maintenance phase‚" he continued. "However‚ let me be clear: This won't be back to business as usual for Boeing. We will not agree to any request from Boeing for an expansion in production or approve additional production lines for the 737 MAX until we are satisfied that the quality control issues uncovered during this process are resolved."The FAA's press release explained that the enhanced maintenance and inspection process will ensure that the door plugs on every 737-9 MAX "will be in compliance." The process will include "an inspection of specific bolts‚ guide tracks and fittings‚" "detailed visual inspections of left and right mid-cabin exit door plugs and dozens of associated components‚" "retorquing fasteners‚" and "correcting any damage or abnormal conditions."Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun told Fox Business on Wednesday that the company has "confidence in the safety of our airplanes." Ohio GOP successfully bans child sex-change mutilations and men from women's sports after overriding Gov. DeWine's veto

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine vetoed legislation last month that promised to save children in the state from sex-change mutilations and keep men out of women's sports. Unsatisfied with the governor's substitutive executive order and unwilling to give him the last word‚ Republican lawmakers have worked to surmount DeWine's veto. Lawmakers in the Ohio House successfully voted on Jan. 10 to override DeWine's veto. On Wednesday‚ Republicans in the Senate followed suit‚ passing the law in a landslide 24-8 vote. They did so without the support of Republican state Sen. Nathan Manning‚ whose term ends in 2026. Ohio has‚ as a result‚ joined over 20 other states that protect children from confusion-affirming medical interventions. The law HB 68 contains both the Saving Adolescents from Experimentation Act and the Save Women's Sports Act. Like DeWine's Executive Order 2024-01D‚ the SAFE Act bars physicians from performing sex-change surgeries on minors; however‚ it goes much farther to protect children. The law prohibits prescribing minors ruinous cross-sex hormones or puberty blockers "for the purpose of assisting the minor individual with gender transition" as well as aiding or abetting in such mutilations and prescriptions. Blaze News previously noted that the SAFE Act also bars courts from denying or limiting parents' rights and responsibilities or parenting time based on their decision to: "refer to and raise the child in a manner consistent with the child's biological sex"; "decline to consent to the child receiving gender transition services"; or "decline to consent to the child receiving counseling or other mental health services for the purpose of affirming the child's perception of the child's gender or sex‚ if the child's perception is inconsistent with the child's biological sex." The Save Women's Sports Act goes one step farther in countering the material and structural impact of social constructivism‚ requiring that interscholastic athletic teams be properly sex-segregated unless otherwise qualified as co-ed. The Associated Press indicated the law is expected to take effect in roughly 90 days. Children who went under the knife or were subjected to sterilizing drugs before the law could protect them will be permitted to continue their treatment. Hermaphrodites have also been granted exceptions. Common sense "The Ohio Senate deserves to be commended today for its commitment to protecting women and children by overriding the Governor's veto of House Bill 68‚" said the SAFE Act's initial sponsor‚ state Rep. Gary Click (R-Vickery). "The SAFE Act and Save Women's Sports Act are the civil rights issues of our day‚ ensuring that children have the right to grow up intact and that women are no long subject to men invading their spaces." Click was gracious in victory‚ suggesting that DeWine "acted from his heart." "I continue to feel that with more time and opportunity it may have been possible for the governor to share in our understanding of this vital issue‚" continued Click. "Nevertheless‚ he did what he felt was right‚ as he should. The legislature‚ however‚ felt just as strongly if not more so that HB 68 was imperative to save lives‚ uphold medical ethics‚ and reaffirm women's rights." "The citizens of Ohio were unequivocal in their demand that the legislature act and we did. The system worked‚" added Click. Ahead of the override‚ the Ohio Senate Republicans cited recent polls indicating the general public was behind them in championing legislation such as HB 68. A HarrixX poll conducted last year for Deseret News found that 61% of all voters said sex changes should be banned for minors. The previous year‚ a Trafalgar Group survey showed that "78.7 percent of voters believe underage minors should be required to wait until they are adults to legally use puberty blockers and undergo permanent sex-change procedures." Even a majority of Democrats indicated prospective victims should wait until adulthood before undergoing medical interventions. A Washington Post-KFF poll published last year revealed that 68% of U.S. adults opposed the provision of puberty blockers to children ages 10-14; 58% opposed hormone treatments for teens ages 15-17. Anger and harm LGBT activists are furious over the legislative expression of the will of Ohioans. Siobhan Boyd-Nelson‚ the executive director of the radical activist group Equality Ohio‚ claimed in a Wednesday statement‚ "Lawmakers have made it clear that they are more concerned with protecting their political aspirations than protecting children‚ protecting women‚ or tackling the numerous pressing issues Ohioans are actually facing." The Human Rights Campaign‚ a mammoth LGBT lobbying outfit‚ called the vote "shameful" and threatened‚ "This isn't over." HRC campaign president Kelley Robinson stated‚ "These legislators have abdicated their responsibility to do what's right for the Ohioans they represent‚ casting votes that they know full well will harm innocent children‚ all to appease the leader of the MAGA agenda." While various activists have accused GOP lawmakers of exposing confused children to harm‚ it appears the treatments they have just banned pose the real danger. Blaze News previously reported that prominent physicians admitted during a September 2022 educational session conducted by the the World Professional Association for Transgender Health that puberty blockers can have disastrous effects on minors‚ including infertility‚ bone loss‚ and brain development disruptions. A study published in September 2022 in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy revealed that puberty blockers deplete victims' bone density‚ hamper their cognitive development‚ and produce a myriad of harmful emotional effects. A September 2023 study published in the European Journal of Endocrinology revealed that male transvestites taking feminizing hormones are 93% more likely to suffer heart disease than other males. Female transvestites taking testosterone are 63% more likely to suffer heart disease than other females. The American College of Cardiology confirmed last year that "people with gender dysphoria taking hormone replacements as part of gender affirmation therapy face a substantially increased risk of serious cardiac events‚ including stroke‚ heart attack and pulmonary embolism." Although captive to LGBT ideology‚ the World Health Organization recently admitted that the evidence concerning "longer-term outcomes of gender affirming care for children and adolescents" is "limited and variable." Walid Farhat‚ chief of pediatric urology at the UW’s School of Medicine and Public Health‚ indicated in an April 2023 grant application that research on the impacts of cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers is "severely lacking." Progressives and conservatives have competing visions for  technology's future

The frontier of technology‚ including large language models‚ quantum computing‚ and virtual worlds‚ has traditionally been a less partisan area compared to policy issues such as health care or climate change. However‚ recent polling by the AI Policy Institute indicates emerging partisan and demographic divides in public opinion about artificial intelligence‚ particularly with the upcoming election in an AI-influenced media landscape. As propaganda and “misinformation” spread‚ the prospect of AI content affecting our decisions seems to weigh heavily on people’s minds. The AIPI‚ a new nonprofit focusing on potential risks from AI technology‚ surveyed over 1‚000 voters. Key findings include: 76% of voters favor candidates who advocate for AI regulation. 55% prefer a bipartisan approach to AI regulation. 61% support the Senate's current AI legislation proposals. However‚ a deeper analysis reveals familiar American political dynamics: a preference for bipartisan solutions but significant disagreement on specifics. How governments regulate this burgeoning industry will be an important political issue as the adoption of AI accelerates. Key insights from the poll: Political concern over AI correlates with education level. 58% of college-educated voters consider a politician's stance on AI important in the 2024 election‚ compared to 57% of non-college graduates who do not. Both groups largely agree on the need for more government regulation of AI but differ on specifics like liability for AI-driven consumer fraud. Education level appears to be a proxy for partisanship‚ suggesting Democrats are more likely to support AI regulation. Demographically‚ Democrats and younger voters exhibit techno-optimism: 60% of 18- to 44-year-olds and 66% of Democrats believe AI advancements will benefit them personally. Younger voters show less enthusiasm for strict AI regulation. The partisan divide‚ though subtle‚ exists: Republicans‚ generally favoring less regulation‚ are more skeptical about AI's societal impact. Democrats are more optimistic about AI's effects on various social classes but favor more regulation. Regarding political figures‚ voters' trust in President Joe Biden or former President Donald Trump on AI issues aligns with their party affiliations‚ with a significant portion of independents undecided. AI may not immediately transform into a contentious issue at the heart of cultural and political battles. However‚ should it develop a more decisive partisan significance‚ as indicated by the AIPI's polling‚ the struggle over who wields AI supremacy could heat up. These are incredibly powerful informational weapons being unleashed on humanity. The fearmongering crowd tries to scare voters with science-fiction stories of rogue intelligence run amok or mass loss of jobs. Unfortunately‚ the loss of jobs is likely inevitable. However‚ their solution is to use regulatory capture to control artificial intelligence. If we’re serious about resisting the regime‚ it’s essential to have the right to bear our own information weapons.

Ring drops feature allowing police to request doorbell camera footage from users

Amazon's Ring announced in a blog post on Wednesday that it will no longer allow law enforcement to request video footage from its users. The doorbell and security camera company stated that it is "sunsetting the Request for Assistance (RFA) tool‚" which allows police and fire departments to "request and receive video" in its Neighbors app. Ring noted that public safety agencies can still use the app to share updates and safety tips with the community."Public safety agency posts are still public‚ and will be available for users to view on the Neighbors app feed and on the agency's profile‚" the company noted. It is unclear why the company has decided to put an end to the feature. However‚ privacy watchdogs and anti-police activists have repeatedly expressed concerns about the company's partnerships with law enforcement agencies across the nation. In a Wednesday statement‚ Matthew Guariglia‚ a senior policy analyst with the digital privacy nonprofit Electronic Frontier Foundation‚ said‚ "Now‚ Ring hopefully will altogether be out of the business of platforming casual and warrantless police requests for footage to its users."The EFF believes that Ring can still be doing more to protect its customers' privacy‚ including enabling their camera devices to be "encrypted end-to-end by default and turn off default audio collection."Evan Greer with the digital rights organization Fight for the Future called the end of the feature a "victory for the coalition of racial justice and human rights advocates‚" CNN reported."That said‚ this move only scratches the surface of addressing the harm done by Ring's dystopian business model‚" Greer claimed. While supporters celebrate Ring's decision to prevent police from requesting users' videos‚ critics fear the move is a major victory for thieves‚ making it more difficult for law enforcement to gather evidence. In 2021‚ Ring altered the Neighbors app policy to make police requests for footage publicly visible following pressure from digital rights groups. Law enforcement departments were previously able to send users a private email requesting the video footage. Police can still access Ring video footage by obtaining a search warrant. Additionally‚ Ring maintains the right to provide video footage to law enforcement without a warrant in emergency situations. The company admitted to handing over videos to police 11 times by mid-2022 without notifying its users. In May 2023‚ Ring reached a $5.8 million settlement with the United States Federal Trade Commission over privacy concerns. According to the FCC‚ the company allowed employees unrestricted access to users' video data. Like Blaze News? 'If I can't perform abortions ... I will not stay in Wisconsin': Med student who seems to back full-term abortions sounds off

A student from the Medical College of Wisconsin who apparently supports full-term abortions said during a public hearing that if she can't get abortion training in the state and if she can't perform abortions in the state‚ then she would leave Wisconsin. What are the details?Madalynn Welch told Wisconsin lawmakers Monday that a proposed state ban on abortions after 14 weeks would discourage people from becoming licensed OB-GYN practitioners in Wisconsin‚ Fox News reported."I think abortion should be unrestrictive‚" Welch said‚ according to the cable news network. "And I think when somebody finds out in pregnancy when — or how far along that they are when someone finds out‚ they should be able to get an abortion if they want to. And for some people‚ that is full term."Following her "full term" utterance‚ a number of people in the room appeared to express audible discomfort. After a cut in the video‚ the student added that "if I can't get abortion training here‚ if I can't perform abortions in my career‚ I will not stay in Wisconsin. And a lot of my colleagues who are on the same track agree." — (@) Fox News said Welch and the Medical College of Wisconsin did not return its request for comment. How are folks reacting?Quite a few social media commenters were outraged by the student's opinions on abortion:"She just said she would abort a FULL TERM fully developed human baby. A baby that can absolutely live outside of the mothers womb. A baby deserving of life. SICK‚" activist Scarlett Johnson wrote. "I am ashamed for her. If that isn’t murder‚ what is? I pray she leaves Wisconsin and never comes back.""She is admitting‚ and proud of it‚ that she would commit infanticide. Murder‚" another commenter stated. "She needs to be permanently barred from practicing medicine everywhere. Unspeakable evil.""Spooky. Has she ever held a newborn? How can you look at a baby and think it is okay to cut its spinal cord and dismember it right before it was born?" another user asked. "Babies are a blessing. We need to stop treating them like they are a curse.""She distills her entire medical calling to being able to murder at will‚" another commenter said. "Absolutely fallen world we live in."(H/T: Not the Bee)Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

Arizona GOP chairman raises an alarming question after resigning over secret recording‚ bribery allegation

Arizona Republican Party Chairman Jeff DeWit resigned on Wednesday over growing controversy involving Kari Lake‚ a secret recording‚ and an alleged bribe. In the explosive recording published on Tuesday‚ DeWit tells Lake there are "very powerful people" who are willing to pay her not to run for the U.S. Senate in 2024. Throughout the recording‚ DeWit speaks in vague terms‚ but at one point he makes the request clear: DeWit tells Lake that powerful people "back east" have requested that he ask her if she can pause her political plans for a sum of money.Lake‚ however‚ repeatedly protests and insists that she will never be "bought" — not even for a billion dollars — because it's "immoral." — (@) In a statement announcing his resignation‚ DeWit accused Lake of releasing a "selectively edited" 10-minute recording of a private conversation that took place at Lake's home nearly a year ago."I said things I regret‚ but I realize when hearing Lake's recording that I was set up‚" DeWit alleged. "I believe she orchestrated this entire situation to have control over the state party‚ and it is obvious from the recording that she crafted her performance responses with the knowledge that she was recording it‚ intending to use this recording later to portray herself as a hero in her own story."DeWit explained that‚ earlier on Wednesday‚ he was "determined to fight" for his job. But he changed his mind when Lake's team allegedly threatened him."[A] few hours ago‚ I received an ultimatum from Lake's team: resign today or face the release of a new‚ more damaging recording‚" he alleged. "I am truly unsure of its contents‚ but considering our numerous past open conversations as friends‚ I have decided not to take the risk."The admission raises an alarming question: Given that he was already accused of trying to bribe Lake on behalf of an unknown group of power brokers‚ what could Lake possibly have recorded that is "more damaging" than that?Lake's team‚ on the other hand‚ denied threatening DeWit."No one from the Kari Lake campaign threatened or blackmailed DeWit‚" they said in a statement. "It is unfortunate that Dewit hasn’t recognized how unethical his behavior was and still hasn’t apologized to Arizona Republicans. DeWit’s false claims are just par for the course. The Arizona GOP must be relieved to have his resignation. Now we can focus on getting ethical leadership and win big in 2024."Still‚ more questions remain: If the tape is as damaging as it appears to be‚ why did Lake wait nearly a year to release it? And‚ naturally: How many other recordings does Lake have? Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!
