Former President Donald Trump is poised to win his third consecutive Republican presidential nomination after a resounding victory Tuesday over former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley in the New Hampshire primary. The results seem likely to set up a rematch in November between Trump and President Joe Biden‚ the Democrat who unseated him in the 2020 election. However‚ Haley was clear she planned to continue in the race. The Associated Press called the race for Trump at 8 p.m. At that time‚ with 18% of precincts reporting‚ Trump had rolled up 54% of the vote in unofficial returns against his only remaining GOP opponent‚ Haley‚ who took 44%‚ according to Fox News. With 32% of New Hampshire precincts reporting‚ Trump had 53.8% to Haley’s 45.2%. Ron DeSantis and Ohio entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswami‚ both of whom since have withdrawn and endorsed Trump. Yet Haley surpassed expectations‚ as the most recent polls showed Trump with a lead of 58% to Haley’s 36% in the Real Clear Politics average. The former president becomes the first candidate to win three presidential primaries in New Hampshire. On the Democrat side‚ Biden won New Hampshire as a write-in candidate‚ defeating longshot challenger Rep. Dean Phillips‚ D-Minn.‚ who was on the ballot.  The next GOP contest is in Nevada and the Virgin Islands‚ where a Republican caucus occurs Feb. 8. The South Carolina primary is set for Feb. 24. Michigan’s primary will be Feb. 27. On March 5‚ 16 states will have contests in what is known as Super Tuesday. Haley was Trump’s first ambassador to the United Nations. The South Carolina primary is Feb. 24‚ her home state‚ where she trails her former boss by over 30 points‚ according to the RealClearPolitics polling average. Nevertheless‚ Haley spoke first in the night‚ congratulating Trump but making it clear the fight continues. “The political class is falling over itself saying it’s over‚” Haley said. “New Hampshire is the first in the nation‚ not the last in the nation. It is far from over. There are dozens of states left to go.” She went on to reference the age of both Trump‚ 77‚ and Biden‚ 81.  “The first party to retire its 80-year-old candidate is the party who wins the election‚” Haley said. “That should be the Republicans.” Trump’s win comes one night after a rally in Laconia‚ New Hampshire‚ that included brief speeches from three of his former GOP challengers—Ramaswamy‚ Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina‚ and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.  DeSantis‚ who came in a distant second place in the Iowa caucuses‚ dropped out of the race Sunday and endorsed Trump in a video statement.  Haley‚ who argued that Trump can’t win in November or would be surrounded by “chaos” if elected‚ pointed to general election polls that show her lead over Biden to be larger than Trump’s.  Haley had the backing of New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu‚ a Republican. She also was endorsed in the primary by both the conservative editorial board of the New Hampshire Union Leader newspaper in Manchester and the left-leaning editorial board of The Boston Globe.  At one point earlier in the campaign‚ Haley appeared to be within striking distance of Trump‚ trailing by only seven points. However‚ after Trump’s decisive win in Iowa‚ his lead grew to more than 20 points.  Most polls closed at 7 p.m. in New Hampshire‚ although some were open until 8 p.m. Voters already in line by closing time were allowed to vote. Phillips won 16% and author Marianne Williamson won 3%‚ with about 3% of precincts reporting‚ according to RealClearPolitics. The Democratic National Committee made South Carolina‚ on Feb. 3‚ the first primary on its calendar. Although New Hampshire still held its Democratic primary‚ the contest awarded no delegates. The next contest after South Carolina is Nevada. On the Republican side in New Hampshire‚ former President Donald Trump was leading former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley‚ who also was his first ambassador to the United Nations‚ by nearly 10 points in early returns. Trump’s other major GOP rivals dropped out of the race after his blowout win in last week’s Iowa caucuses. Phillips hoped to emulate another Minnesota Democrat‚ then-Sen. Eugene McCarthy‚ an opponent of the Vietnam War who lost by only six points to the incumbent Democrat‚ President Lyndon B. Johnson‚ in the 1968 New Hampshire primary. The close contest prompted Johnson to bow out of his re-election bid.  But Phillips didn’t close the gap. Nevertheless‚ he said before the primary that he would remain in the race.  Biden supporters‚ fearing the president would be embarrassed in the state‚ launched a write-in campaign.  Phillips challenged Biden to a debate in New Hampshire. Biden never campaigned. However‚ Phillips and Williamson debated. Williamson‚ who ran in Democrats’ 2020 presidential primary‚ was an even more distant contender.  Last year‚ environmentalists and lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr.‚ the son of former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and a nephew of President John F. Kennedy‚ was slated to be in the Democratic primary. A cat transformed completely nine months after a resident took him off the streets. Now‚ he's ready for his happily ever after. Blizzard the catAllieA cat with a cauliflower ear had been living outside for a while. The streets had been hard on him. A resident started feeding him‚ noticed his declining health‚ and brought him to the vet.He had patches of missing fur all over his body due to a skin condition and desperately needed treatment and placement. "The vet called us to see if we could help. "He needed lots of TLC when we first got him." He was found on the streets in poor shapeCommunityCatClubThe cat‚ lovingly named Blizzard‚ began his healing journey in his foster home. He was a bit reserved upon arrival‚ shying away in the carrier until his foster mom‚ Allie‚ assured him with gentle pets on his chin.He was sweet and receptive to touch‚ melting into Allie's hand as if he knew he was safe with her. Blizzard arrived at his foster homeAllieHe filled the room with his contented rumble‚ lying beside his foster mom and basking in the love.Allie worked closely with the veterinarian to determine what worked best for the cat. With daily treatment‚ medications‚ and TLC‚ she began to see progress in Blizzard and eventually got him back on track.
