North Face offers discount for taking 'racial inclusion' course on 'barriers that people of colour face in the outdoors'

The North Face‚ an outdoor clothing company‚ is currently offering a 40% discount to customers who take an hour-long "racial inclusion" course that discusses the "barriers that people of colour face in the outdoors‚" the Sun reported Monday. The company's "Allyship in the Outdoors" is a digital course about "racial inclusion and allyship." According to the Sun‚ the online program was launched last month‚ offering a discount to those who complete all four modules and correctly answer quizzes at the end of each section. Once signing up for the digital course through the clothing company's website‚ customers receive an email with a link to begin the lesson."The course will help you understand the challenges that people of colour face when accessing the outdoors. It will also provide training and resources to help you be a better ally and to make the outdoors a safer and more welcoming place for everyone‚" the email from the North Face stated. The company's course "focuses on perspectives of race and racism in Europe‚" the course explained.Students of the course will "build awareness and knowledge of people of colour in the outdoors‚" "understand barriers and challenges by listening to lived experiences‚" "understand the power of allyship‚" and "adopt effective strategies and tools for allyship in action." While "the outdoor are for everyone‚" the course stated‚ "not all of us can access the outdoors equally and have the resources to do so." It noted that "people of colour are less likely to go climbing‚ hiking‚ skiing‚ snowboarding‚ and trail running."According to the North Face‚ the Black Lives Matter "movement" after "George Floyd was murdered by the police" helped to spark "a new awakening in the outdoors that racial inclusion and representation matters in sports." The clothing brand aims to "create a more equitable outdoors for everyone‚" noting that "equity acknowledges that everyone comes from different circumstances and allocates resources and opportunities accordingly‚ so that everyone can reach an equal outcome."Another section of the course stated that "privilege can give us access to the outdoors.""In this context‚ we refer to 'white privilege' meaning that your race and skin colour can give you access to the outdoors when others can be excluded because of historic‚ enduring racism and biases‚" it read. The course instructs customers to report coworkers to their manager if they call them "woke‚" the Sun reported. The founder of Free Speech Union‚ Toby Young‚ told the news outlet‚ "The irony is that The North Face is implicitly acknowledging here that all its customers are white.""After all‚ why would black customers need to take a course about 'white privilege' to get a 20 per cent discount? But if all customers are white‚ shouldn't it be examining the beam in its own eye?" Young questioned. The North Face told the New York Post‚ "The North Face has always believed the outdoors should be a welcoming‚ equitable and safe place for all. This course aims to bring light to the barriers to entry preventing all people from sharing equally rewarding experiences in the outdoors."Like Blaze News? Heather Mac Donald warns felons will use California's 'systemic bias' defense to avoid accountability

Convicted felons may soon be pouring out of prison and onto California's already crime-ridden streets thanks to a law ratified in September 2020 by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom. Manhattan Institute fellow and essayist Heather Mac Donald noted in the Wall Street Journal Monday that because of AB 2542‚ the so-called California Racial Justice Act‚ "every felon serving time in the state's prisons and jails can now retroactively challenge his conviction and sentencing on the ground of systemic bias." "To prevail‚ the incarcerated prisoner need not show that the police officers‚ prosecutors‚ judge or jurors in his case were motivated by racism or that his proceedings were unfair‚" wrote Mac Donald. "If he can demonstrate that in the past‚ criminal suspects of his race were arrested‚ prosecuted or sentenced more often or more severely than members of other racial groups‚ he will be entitled to a new trial or sentence." Around the time of its ratification‚ Newsom suggested that Democratic Assemblyman Ash Kalra's AB 2542 demonstrated that California "is dedicated to leading the nation on confronting and addressing systemic injustice." The governor's office noted further that AB 2542 was a "countermeasure to address a widely condemned 1987 legal precedent established by the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of McCleskey v. Kemp." Leftists apparently regard the precedent set in McCleskey as problematic because it "has the functional effect of requiring that criminal defendants prove intentional discrimination when challenging racial bias in their legal process." The need to cite actual proof‚ according to the governor's office‚ amounts to "a high standard ... almost impossible to meet." California's 2020 law‚ alternatively "establishes a new state cause of action that simply presumes that the justice system is biased‚ obviating the need to show individual discriminatory intent‚" wrote Mac Donald. AB 2542 amended the state's penal code to enable convicts to challenge a criminal conviction if they can show that Anyone involved in their case‚ including judges‚ attorneys‚ police‚ and jurors‚ "exhibited bias or animus towards the defendant because of the defendant's race‚ ethnicity‚ or national origin"; "Race‚ ethnicity‚ or national origin was a factor in the exercise of peremptory challenges‚" even in the absence of "purposeful discrimination"; The defendant received a more serious charge or conviction than similarly situated defendants of other other races or national origins; or that The prosecution "more frequently sought or obtained convictions for more serious offenses against people" of the defendant's race and national origin. In practice‚ this will help liberate felons or help suspected criminals dodge greater accountability. Russell Austin has been accused of fatally slashing a pregnant 25-year-old woman‚ Erica Johnson‚ and killing her unborn child. Mosby‚ the head of a robbery-prostitution ring previously found guilty of multiple murders‚ is on the hook for the gang-related killing of Darryl King-Divens. Facing the death penalty in Riverside County‚ Austin and Mosby both filed challenges under the California Racial Justice Act in order to avoid a "death qualified" jury‚ claiming black defendants were 14 times more likely to have death sentences brought against them than white defendants in similar cases. Mac Donald indicated that critical details can be glossed over in the racial comparisons advanced in such challenges. "If a defense expert seeks to show that defendants from one racial group were sentenced more harshly in the past than defendants of other races‚ he can ignore criminal history in composing the comparison groups‚" wrote Mac Donald. "He can ignore the heinousness of the crimes committed by the two groups. As long as they were charged under a similar statute‚ they will be deemed sufficiently comparable to build a case for prosecutorial racism." Despite the clear potential for abuse‚ Claudia Van Wyk‚ a senior staff attorney at the ACLU Capital Punishment Project suggested in January that cutting suspected killers like Austin and Mosby slack over the perception of "systemic racial bias" is "exactly how the California Racial Justice Act is meant to work." Mac Donald underscored that this scheme‚ which defense lawyers have already rushed to exploit "will produce unequal justice for victims as well as offenders." "Racial disparities in prosecuting and sentencing reflect disparities in criminal offending‚" noted the Manhattan Institute fellow. "In Los Angeles‚ blacks are 21 times as likely as whites to commit a violent crime‚ 36 times as likely to commit a robbery‚ and 57 times as likely to commit a homicide‚ according to police department data." Mac Donald highlighted how this data is the result of reports from victims and witnesses who are disproportionately black. Ultimately‚ victims like Erica Johnson and Darryl King-Divens may be denied justice in the name of "racial justice." Like Blaze News? WATCH: Lara Trump tells Sara Gonzales how she plans to win elections as RNC chair

Lara Trump‚ Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law‚ recently announced her plans to run as the new co-chair for the Republican National Committee in the wake of Ronna McDaniel’s announcement that she’d be stepping down. Now‚ Laura joins Sara Gonzales to discuss her plans for rebuilding and rebranding the Republican Party. “This is a position for which I never imagined I'd run‚ but I also never imagined our country would be in such a bad spot‚” she says. “We really have a must-win election on November 5‚ and the reality is you cannot win a presidential election without the Republican National Committee.” She goes on to explain how the key to success will be “changing our approach” when it comes to elections. “As conservatives ... we want paper ballots; we want voter ID everywhere‚ but we don't live in that day right now‚ and the way we get to that spot is electing president Donald Trump‚ taking back the Senate‚ and expanding our lead in the House so we can actually make those substantive changes‚” she tells Sara. For now‚ she says‚ “we need to make sure that early voting is something we are talking about as conservatives. The first day early voting starts in your state ... get out and vote; then you take someone with you every day up until Election Day to vote” so that the party has “banked votes” and avoids “going into Election Day at a deficit.” Further‚ we need “trained poll-watchers ... who can physically handle the ballots” and “count how many ballots are coming into a location and how many are going out‚ so we don't have miraculous suitcases full of ballots showing up after or on Election Day.” Perhaps‚ more than anything‚ “we need to re-establish trust in this entity — the RNC‚” Lara says. As a Trump family member‚ Lara says she’ll “be watching every penny and ensuring it goes to causes we care about.” She also intends to “check out every vendor that the RNC is using” as well as “all of the staff there.” When Sara asked if she would be open to working with Scott Presler‚ Lara said‚ “I think Scott Presler is amazing. What he’s done for voter registration is incredible‚” adding that she hopes to “put him in charge of our legal ballot-harvesting operation.” “[Democrats] have the whole media apparatus behind them‚” she explained‚ adding that it’s “basically their marketing arm.” “We know that they've been slippery in elections before ... and it's not going to be their first rodeo‚ so‚ we've got to play the game even better‚” which is why she “loves the idea of Scott Presler.” To hear more‚ watch the clip below. Charles Barkley threatens to assault black Trump supporters‚ but his CNN cohost quickly steps in with reality check

NBA legend Charles Barkley recently threatened to assault black Americans who support Donald Trump‚ prompting a quick reality check from his CNN cohost‚ Gayle King. On the most recent episode of "King Charles‚" King asked Barkley about Trump's controversial remarks in which he claimed that black Americans sympathize with his run-in with the criminal justice system. Trump even claimed that black Americans wear T-shirts with his infamous mugshot. Such people‚ Barkley responded‚ deserve to be assaulted. "First of all‚ I'm just going to say this. If I see a black person walking around with Trump mugs‚ I'm going to punch him in the face‚" he said. "Charles‚" King interjected. "You really can't say that because‚ A‚ you don't mean that." "Oh‚ I mean that sincerely‚" Barkley shot back. "And then you will be arrested for assault. And then‚ what?" King followed up. "I'm going to bail myself out and go celebrate‚" Barkley responded. Justifying his threat‚ Barkley said that Trump's remarks were "an insult to all black people" because he is comparing "black history where we've been discriminated against to his plight." But that is a false equivalence‚ Barkley argued‚ because Trump is a billionaire‚ and he is being prosecuted for "stuff he did wrong." That last statement earned Barkley another fact check from King. "It's still in the court system‚ Charles. We have to wait. It's still in the court system‚" she told Barkley‚ reminding him that Trump is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Charles Barkley says that if he sees a 'Black person walking around with a Trump mugshot‚ he is going punch him in the face' 'If I see a black person walking around with a Trump mugshot‚ I’m gonna punch him in the face....I will bail myself out and go celebrate' pic.twitter.com/5dXzh5gKjT — Unlimited L's (@unlimited_ls) March 5‚ 2024 The merits of Trump's claims aside‚ Barkley's response seemingly plays into a classic Democratic Party narrative: black voters must not support Republicans. But black voters are increasingly questioning whether their loyalty should remain with the Democratic Party as they ask themselves what the party has accomplished on their behalf. And as an increasing number of black Americans realize the answer to that question is next to nothing‚ more and more are peeling away from Democrats. Look no further than the newest New York Times/Siena College poll‚ which shows that Trump is winning 23% of black voters. If that is how Election Day plays out‚ then black voters will have sent President Joe Biden and Democrats an important message: We're tired of your empty promises‚ and we're tired of being treated like we are less than black if we don't support your agenda.
