Outgoing Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards pardons 56 inmates‚ 40 of which were convicted of murder

The Louisiana governor who is headed out of office has reportedly pardoned 56 inmates since October 2022‚ including many who have been convicted of murder.Fox News Digital reported that due to 1‚094 people per 100‚000 currently incarcerated in some form‚ Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards made it his goal to reduce that number during his final term in office. However‚ this means that many convicted murderers have been pardoned by the governor."For as long as I can remember‚ Louisiana reflexively responded to an increase in crime by putting more people in prison and keeping them there longer‚" Edwards said."We've never been made safer as a result of that‚" Edwards continued. "There is no data to suggest that an increase in crime here was because of the reforms."Edwards has also decided to release those who have been convicted of drug dealing‚ robbery‚ and arson‚ according to the report. And a total of 40 convicted murders have been pardoned by Edwards over the course of three months. The Daily Mail reported that among those released under Edwards was a man who was just hours away from being put in the electric chair for the murder of a taxi driver in 1983. The inmate's name is David Rushing‚ of New Orleans‚ who was 18 when he confessed that he fatally shot the taxi driver after his attempt to rob a convenience store and gas station was thwarted. Though he was ultimately sentenced to death‚ his lawyers successfully appealed‚ noting that there was prosecutorial misconduct and an ineffective defense‚ per the report.Another convicted murderer who Edwards pardoned was Anthony Riggins‚ who shot and killed a 68-year-old shopkeeper in a New Orleans suburb. He was convicted of the crime in 1977. A third convicted murderer released under Edwards was Benson Dean Vampran‚ who was found guilty of murdering a hitchhiker in 1984 and raping his wife. He was 25 at the time of the crimes.Despite these alarming developments‚ Edwards said that he was proud of the work he has done over the past eight years."When I leave office‚ the state of Louisiana will be better than it was when I took office‚" he said‚ citing a host of issues that he intended to tackle during his tenure. He went on to suggest that reducing the number of those in prison was a step in the right direction‚ according to the Daily Mail.Like Blaze News? Charlie Sheen attacked in Malibu home by neighbor‚ woman arrested for assault with deadly weapon: Police

Charlie Sheen was attacked by his neighbor inside his Malibu home‚ according to police. Around 1 p.m. on Wednesday‚ officers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to "a battery/disturbance call" at Sheen's residence in Malibu‚ California. TMZ reported that the female suspect "ripped Charlie's shirt and attempted to strangle him ... and then went back to her own house."After the purported attack on the Hollywood star‚ the suspect returned to her home‚ according to police. Paramedics rushed to the crime scene‚ but Sheen reportedly did not require to be transported to the hospital. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told Business Insider‚ "Upon contacting the parties involved‚ deputies identified Charlie Sheen as a victim of assault.""The suspect‚ Electra Schrock‚ was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon‚ force likely to create great bodily injury‚ and residential burglary‚" the LASD said. Sheen allegedly told LASD deputies that he did not know why his neighbor attacked him. The "Two and a Half Men" actor reportedly said that Schrock squirted an unknown sticky liquid on his car before the physical confrontation inside his Malibu home. Sheen‚ 58‚ also claimed that his neighbor discarded trash in front of his door just one day before the alleged assault. Schrock‚ 47‚ appeared in court on Friday.Representatives for Sheen did not immediately respond to a request for comment by KABC-TV.Earlier this month‚ Sheen told People magazine that he has stopped his hard-partying ways. "Next month I'll be six years sober‚" Sheen told the entertainment outlet. "I have a very consistent lifestyle now. It's all about single dad stuff‚ and raising my 14-year-old twin boys Max and Bob." "Now I wake up early‚ around 4:30 or 5 a.m.‚ get an early jump on the news‚ work out‚ answer emails‚" the "Major League" star added. "Then I get the kids up and help them with their morning routine — if you can call it a routine."Sheen said that he quit alcohol cold turkey in 2017 after he had been drinking on a day when he promised to take his daughter to an appointment‚ but he was intoxicated so he had to have a friend drive them both to the appointment. "So I had to call my friend Tony to take us‚" he explained. "We got her there on time‚ but it broke my heart because she was in the backseat‚ and I could just tell she was thinking‚ 'Why isn't dad driving?' So I got home and sat with that for the rest of the day. And the next morning‚ I just stopped.""I think the first month I was like‚ I'm going to have to give it a month‚ just see if I feel any better‚ and if my interactions with those that are closest to me improve‚" Sheen recalled. "And they did. And I'm like‚ all right‚ I'm going to go another month. And then it got traction. I had momentum."Like Blaze News?
