The competition just got bricked. “A Minecraft Movie” took the top spot at the box office this weekend, grossing $163 million domestically for the biggest opening weekend of the year. Industry analysts originally predicted an opening closer to $60 million after mixed reviews on the trailer, per Variety. But that was adjusted to $90 million as the film’s premiere drew closer. The video game based story also earned an additional $150 million worldwide for a grand total of $313 million against a $150 million production budget, not counting marketing expenses. Before “Minecraft” dropped, the Disney/Marvel film “Captain America: Brave New World” held the record for biggest opening of 2025 with $88 million. As for the best performing video game adaptation, that title was held by “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (2023) which raked in $146 million during its opening weekend. “There is a treasure trove of storytelling and (intellectual property) in that arena, making it a sweet spot where the industry can meet young moviegoers and general audiences who’ve become more selective,” Shawn Robbins, director of movie analytics at Fandango and founder of Box Office Theory, told CNN in an email. He further noted that college students and teens on spring break likely helped boost box office numbers. “A Minecraft Movie,” directed by Jared Hess (“Napoleon Dynamite,” “Nacho Libre”), follows the journey of Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers), and Dawn (Danielle Brooks) who are all struggling with ordinary problems when they travel through a portal to the Overworld where they meet expert crafter Steve (Jack Black). The foursome is tasked with fighting evil things and conquering the Overworld where “creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival” a synopsis of the film says. “A Minecraft Movie” also includes Jennifer Coolidge, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement in supporting roles. The film currently has a 48% critics rating and 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. “It feels like a small miracle that the resulting film is so funny, lively, and light on its feet,” the New York Magazine reviewer wrote in one review.

Chief Justice John Roberts issued an order on Monday that blocked a previous order from a district court judge demanding that deported Salvadoran national Kilmer Abrego Garcia be returned to the United States by midnight. Fox News reporter Bill Melugin shared a photo of the order via X, along with the news: “BREAKING: SCOTUS Chief Justice John Roberts has temporarily blocked the district court’s order that Salvadoran National Kilmer Abrego Garcia be returned to the U-S by midnight tonight. It is further ordered that a response to the application be filed on or before Tuesday, April 8th, 2025, by 5 p.m. (EDT).” The Trump administration had asked the Supreme Court to block the lower court’s order — issued by U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis — earlier in the day, arguing that allowing it to stand would set a dangerous precedent with regard to the administration’s ability to enforce immigration law. Abrego Garcia, 29, was mistakenly deported to El Salvador in March and sent to a mega prison there due to an “administrative error.” The Salvadoran national, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, is a suspected MS-13 gang member and has a deportation order from an American judge dating back to 2019. That judge did also state that Abrego Garcia should not be deported to El Salvador out of concern for his physical safety.

A Muslim man who hated America and Christianity was convicted of targeting multiple churches with fake bomb threats while collecting bomb-making materials, the Justice Department announced. The DOJ said Friday that 45-year-old Zimnako Salah was convicted of targeting four churches across Arizona, California, and Colorado with fake bomb threats. At the same time, the FBI said it found evidence that Salah was constructing an actual bomb in a storage crate he was renting, according to a criminal complaint. Salah was convicted last week of making a bomb threat hoax, obstructing the free exercise of religion, threatening the use of a dangerous weapon or explosive, and targeting Christians because of their religion. “This Department of Justice has no tolerance for anyone who targets religious Americans for their faith,” Attorney General Pamela Bondi said. “The perpetrator of this abhorrent hate crime against Christians will face severe punishment.” At one church in Roseville, California, in November 2023, Salah tied a backpack to a toilet in the men’s restroom before leaving with the intent to scare congregants into thinking they may be the victims of a bombing, the DOJ said. One woman who handled the backpack believed that she “might meet Jesus today” because of the package. “Planting a hoax bomb at the Roseville church was not an isolated incident or a prank for this defendant,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith for the Eastern District of California. “His actions were designed to threaten and intimidate the congregation because he disagreed with their religious beliefs.” In another incident, Salah left a backpack in the sanctuary of a Christian church in Scottsdale, Arizona. Salah attempted to conduct a similar hoax at two other churches — one in Greenwood Village, Colorado, and the other in La Mesa, California — but was questioned by church security. According to the criminal complaint filed against him, Salah is a Northern Iraqi who has lived in Arizona for about 20 years. In his interactions with others, the FBI found that he expressed his hate for America, telling people, “F*** this country. I hate America. This country went to Iraq and killed a lot of people.” And at the same time he was carrying out the bombing hoaxes, the FBI discovered that Salah was renting a storage unit near Greenwood Village where he had materials like duct tape with nails, red and white wires attached to a battery, nails and bolts, a box of ignition coils, and multiple propane tanks. At the time, the FBI said in its criminal complaint that the evidence indicated that the materials were “possibly being used to attempt to make a viable explosive device.” The DOJ later determined that Salah had “been building a bomb capable of fitting in a backpack.” On the wall of the storage unit were spray-painted words in Arabic derogatory toward Jewish people and about Muhammed. Video records showed that Salah had searched for videos of “Infidels dying” and watched videos of ISIS murdering Christians, according to the DOJ. Salah’s Storage unit: FBI criminal complaint. Salah could face up to six years in prison and a $250,000 fine if sentenced to the maximum penalty. President Donald Trump has made targeting anti-Christian bias a major priority for his administration. He signed an executive order in February to create a task force aimed at protecting Christians and religious liberty.

Okay, saying that Carrie Underwood can’t sing is just wholly untrue and objectively wrong. Over the weekend, the country star joined Papa Roach onstage in Las Vegas during a stop on their Rise Of The Roach Tour to sing their first hit “Last Resort,” as well as a live version of their recorded duet, “Leave A Light On.” Carrie has long been a fan of metal and rock music, and has joined other bands like Guns ‘N Roses onstage before as well. Carrie grew up loving all kinds of music, and Papa Roach burst onto the music scene in 2000 with their debut single “Last Resort,” which is still be their biggest hit, one they save for the encore each night. The rap metal band formed in Vacaville, California, first debuted the song for the movie Ready to Rumble, and then a few weeks later, released it on their sophomore studio album (and major label debut) Infest. The 4x Platinum record went on to earn the band a Grammy nomination and is still their best-selling album. Ever since Carrie performed at the inauguration of President Trump in January, she has received negative comments on pretty much all of her posts, because some fans were upset that she “got political,” so to speak, though Carrie never expressly said anything in terms of who she exactly voted for, but said it was an honor to perform at a historical event like that one. She worked through some pretty major technical issues during the primetime performance, and ended up delivering a stunning, a cappella rendition of “America the Beautiful.” But naturally, there were some very vocal Papa Roach fans in the comments who let her have it, and were upset with the band for even having her there. The folks in the audience seemed to be loving the performance, but the keyboard warriors… not so much. The funniest part, though, was everyone saying she can’t sing… yeah, they might wanna get their ears checked. “If she never did this again, I’d be fine with that. Love you guys, but no.” “Really? Gonna get on stage and act all hard and not even drop the F bomb in the lyrics.” “Wow!
