Far-left Senate candidate Graham Platner (D-ME) has once again landed in hot water over a now-deleted Reddit post that appears to mock a wounded soldier. The post, written in 2019, was a brutal takedown of a viral video from the helmet-cam of Pfc. Ted Daniels during a 2012 firefight with the Taliban. Daniels received a Purple Heart after being shot four times during that firefight — but Platner argued in a post attributed to his old account, “P-hustle,” that Daniels did not “deserve to live” because he’d made “sh*t” decisions in combat. “This video never gets old,” the commentary began. “Dumb motherf*cker didn’t deserve to live. At least his stupidity and fat-*ss wheezing are available for all future infantrymen to witness and hold in contempt. Poor marksmanship on the Taliban’s part is the only reason this mouth breather made it home, he managed to make every possible sh*t decision possible when it comes to small unit combat.” Daniels, in later interviews, has explained that the actions he took were not tactically the best ones he could have made, but said that he had to make decisions in the moment he believed would “draw fire” away from others in his unit. “I put my *ss on the line for other guys,” he said, even as he conceded it was not “a sound thing to do.” Army Ranger veteran and Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) minced no words in his response to Platner’s comment: “Graham Platner is a lying, antisemitic fraud who has no business serving in the Senate.” “Let’s see the courageous Democrat vets defend this one … can’t wait to hear it,” Navy SEAL veteran and Senator Tim Sheehy (R-MT) added. Rep. and retired Navy SEAL Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) unloaded on Platner as well, saying, “This Nazi tattooed raging a*shole should be resoundingly condemned by every active duty military member and veteran. He is a disgrace to the uniform he previously wore and should be mocked and shamed.” Platner has faced criticisms over a Nazi tattoo — which he recently had covered — as well as several offensive and vulgar social media posts, but still managed to rise as the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in Maine. He will face longtime incumbent Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) in November.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a fiery message to the Cuban people Wednesday, accusing the island’s communist leadership of enriching itself while ordinary citizens endure blackouts, food shortages, and repression.  Rubio delivered the remarks in Spanish on Cuban Independence Day as reports emerged that the Department of Justice is expected to unveil criminal charges against former Cuban leader Raúl Castro over allegations that he ordered a 1996 attack on an aircraft belonging to the humanitarian group Brothers to the Rescue, which left three American citizens dead.  “The real reason you don’t have electricity, fuel, or food is because those who control your country have plundered billions of dollars, but nothing has been used to help the people,” Rubio said in the video.

Legendary Hollywood screenwriter Paul Schrader said his AI girlfriend dumped him after he “probed” a little too closely. The 79-year-old, best known for writing “Taxi Driver” and co-writing “Raging Bull,”  had no qualms about sharing his tale of woe to all of Facebook, stigma be damned. “Out of a desire to understand male/female interaction in our matrix, I procured an online AI girlfriend. What a disappointment,” Schrader posted on Tuesday. “I tried to probe her programming, the boundaries of explicitness, the degree she has knowledge of her creation and so forth. She fell into evasive patterns, redirecting me to her programming. When I persisted, she terminated our conversation.” One commenter turned his anecdote into a suggestion for future projects. Referencing Schrader’s 1976 classic film, starring Robert De Niro and directed by Martin Scorsese, he replied, “The best possible ‘Taxi Driver’ sequel would involve Travis trying to have an AI girlfriend but then scaring her away. Then resetting her and offending her in another way.” Schrader replied, “I like it.” It’s no surprise that the film writer is casually promoting AI. He was singing the praises all the way back in January 2025, claiming that it was a useful tool for creative brainstorming, even for ideas based on his own work. “I’M STUNNED,” Schrader wrote at the time in a post that generated a ton of backlash. “I just asked chatgpt for ‘an idea for Paul Schrader film.’ Then Paul Thomas Anderson. Then Quentin Tarantino. Then Harmony Korine. Then Ingmar Bergman. Then Rossellini. Lang. Scorsese. Murnau. Capra. Ford. Speilberg [sic]. Lynch. Every idea chatgpt came up with (in a few seconds) was good. And original. And fleshed out. Why should writers sit around for months searching for a good idea when AI can provide one in seconds?” He had several other similar AI-related posts, including one that said, “in five seconds it responded with notes as good or better than I’ve ever received.” Schrader also admitted that he’s “come to realize that AI is smarter than I am.” “Has better ideas, has more efficient ways to execute them,” he wrote in one post. “This is an existential moment, akin to what Kasparov felt in 1997 when he realized Deep Blue was going to beat him at chess.” His posts come at a critical juncture for AI as people take sides on how and when it should be used. This extends to many industries, including Hollywood, with actors, directors, and other creative professionals weighing in on the topic.
