A ship flying a giant Mexican flag slammed into the Brooklyn Bridge Saturday evening during its visit to New York City. According to the New York Post, the collision toppled one of its masts into the deck and seriously injured multiple crew members. Victims are being transported to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, with those in critical condition being taken to a nearby hospital for additional treatment. Video of the scene shows a high mast slamming the deck of the bridge and crashing dozens of feet below to the deck. Terrified onlookers in the park on the Brooklyn side under the bridge can be heard in the clip screaming “Oh s–it!” The vessel, built in Spain in 1982, had been in the city as part of a promotion for next year’s Sail4th tall ship event, which celebrates America’s 250th birthday.
