No, Beyonce Is Not Nominated For Any 2025 ACM Awards

There will be no awards handed to Beyoncé for Cowboy Carter at the 2025 ACM Awards. The conversation around Beyoncé’s brief dip into the country music genre intensifies every time a country music awards show rolls around. Most of the time, the discourse kicks up because the pop and R&B singer is left out of the award nominations altogether. That has once again happened with the 2025 ACMs. Beyoncé released her “country album” Cowboy Carter (that she clarified “wasn’t a country album”) back in March of 2024. It was certainly a cultural moment, and one could argue that it was successful out of the gate. But after its initial release, it really lacked the staying power on the Billboard charts that you would expect from someone as big as Beyoncé. That’s even translated into low ticket sales on her Cowboy Carter Tour. Then, after it failed to be nominated at many of last year’s country music award shows, it seemed like the “country era” of Queen Bey was all but over with. However, Beyoncé then scored plenty of Grammy nominations for the project (or course), totaling 11 different nominations including “Best Country Album” and “Album of the Year.” The 43-year-old artist ended up taking home both of those awards and one other, bringing Beyoncé’s total Grammy Awards won up to 35 – the most of any artist in history. Was that a sign of more awards to come? Or was that more of a culmination for Beyoncé? Well, considering that the ACMs passed her over for nominations – just as many of the other country music award shows did last year – I’d categorize her success at the Grammys as a bit of a flash in the pan… and having more to do with her being Beyonce than it did what she did for the country music world. Hell, even her own banjo player on the record, the talented Rhiannon Giddens, said she had “mixed feelings” about working on the project. The 2025v ACM Nominees The nominees for the 2025 ACM Awards were announced back in March, and Beyoncé was nowhere to be found. That’s when the word “snubbed” started getting thrown around once again, but the controversy definitely wasn’t as loud this time. Despite that, we still got somewhat of an explanation as to why Beyoncé scored zero nomination at the ACMs. Damon Whiteside, the CEO of the Academy of Country Music, explained why he believed that the academy’s members didn’t give the pop superstar any nominations, and also suggested that he was disappointed not seeing her among the artists that were recognized: “I think, more likely, they’re going to be voting for artists that they’ve got relationships with and work with on a regular basis and that are in the country music business 365. Were we hoping she’d be nominated? Absolutely. We love that Beyoncé is in the country genre. That’s fantastic for all the country artists out there. It’s fantastic for the fans. The more successful she is, the more we’re bringing more mainstream people into the genre, which we want.” I mean… if you ask me, mainstream people are more than welcome to organically work their way into the genre. But much of Cowboy Carter felt forced as country music, if you can even call it that (even Beyoncé refused to call it country). And I thought Luke Bryan even explained it pretty well (of course he got backlash for it), saying that if you don’t participate in the country music industry, it’s hard to get nominations. You can’t just put out a record and hope to win awards… I mean, most indie country artists who don’t participate in the Nashville music world aren’t getting nominated either. Post Malone, more so than anyone, has demonstrated what it is like to actually be a part of the community. And he’s since been welcomed with open arms. Maybe that’s ultimately why the “Texas Hold Em'” singer was not nominated for any awards at the 2025 ACMs?The post No, Beyonce Is Not Nominated For Any 2025 ACM Awards first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

John Moreland Seemingly Shades Duet Partner Zach Bryan On $350 Million Deal: “Off-Brand Version Of Me”

John Moreland Seemingly Shades Duet Partner Zach Bryan On $350 Million Deal: “Off-Brand Version Of Me”

John Moreland is not one to hold his tongue or pull his punches (literally). It was announced yesterday that Zach Bryan had inked a deal with Warner Records, which puts him on the hook for at least two more albums despite his constant statements saying his next will be the last and that he’s done touring after whatever tour he happens to be on is finished. He also signed a deal, which may be connected or may be completely separate, to sell over his publishing catalog for a whopping $350 million. It’s unclear if the number is just for the catalog or part of the re-up with Warner. Either way, the man got PAID. It’s a little vague on specific details but this essentially means that he would no longer own the publishing rights to his songs. Since Zach is one of the largest acts on the planet, I assume he had some lawyers look it over and make sure that he’s comfortable with the terms, but we will probably never know exactly what they are since most of those agreements stay secret thanks to a bunch of NDA’s and the power of the industry. This comes on the heels of Morgan Wallen’s label selling a stake in his masters catalogue for $200 million, showing that country music really is one of the top genres on the planet right now… There’s been lots of talk about these recent financial developments but one former Zach Bryan collaborator voiced his displeasure with deal in a since deleted Instagram story. John Moreland On Zach Bryan’s Deal Whether you agree or disagree, John Moreland is always going to give his opinion. He recently announced he was cancelling his Canadian dates this year for fear that his wife, a legal resident and green card holder, would not be allowed back in the country due to the immigration crackdown imposed by the Trump administration. And before that, do you happen to remember what might be the weirdest event of 2024 when he got in a literal barfight with Turnpike Troubadours fiddle player (and solo artist) Kyle Nix? Afterwards he called him a “tiny fiddle player” and said he kicks “like a f****g third-grader”… Well, the former Zach Bryan collaborator, who joined him on “Memphis; The Blues” on The Great American Bar Scene, took to social media earlier today to make a statement about Zach’s new deal. It was short but very much to the point: “$350 M is a lot of money to pay for the f***** off-brand version of me. Y‘all have a great day” Well damn! Tell us how you really feel, John Moreland pic.twitter.com/rzZOQDWf71 — Prairie Playlist (@PrairiePlaylist) May 7, 2025 The post has since been deleted (or maybe just expired) but man, that’s quite the statement from one of Oklahoma’s finest songwriters and an artist that Zach has publicly and vocally supported many times in the past: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Zach Bryan (@zachlanebryan) I truly hate rivalries between two great artists and yes, both of them are great. There’s a million reasons people hate on Zach Bryan, some of them being completely valid, but denying what he’s done for songwriting and independent artists over the past few years would be an insane and dishonest view of the situation. And John Moreland doesn’t need me to defend his credibility as a songwriter; honestly he’s one of the all-time greats and has so many albums I continue to go back to time and time again. Is it possible there’s been a behind the scenes falling out that we don’t know about? Absolutely, that’s always a possibility, and both of these dudes have had public beef with others before. And there’s also the possibility that John is just messing around with him and they’re still good friends. John’s style of humor can be fairly blunt and sarcastic. But we also need to be honest and say that if John Moreland wasn’t a Zach Bryan fan than he shouldn’t have worked with him on “Memphis; The Blues,” which is Moreland’s most popular song, at least on Spotify. He’s definitely earned a fair amount of royalties from it at this point. He should continue to earn them… as he still owns his 50% of that song (at least according to BMI that’s how it appears to be structured). Hopefully the two can bury the hatchet and work this out, but if Moreland really views him as an “off-brand version” of himself, that’s going to be a hard hole to climb out of… The post John Moreland Seemingly Shades Duet Partner Zach Bryan On $350 Million Deal: “Off-Brand Version Of Me” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

Eric Church Likens Controversial 2024 Stagecoach Gospel Set To Bob Dylan’s 1965 Electric Newport Folk Festival Performance: “A Paradigm Shift In Music”

Well, if you’re following in the footsteps of a musical icon like Bob Dylan, you’re probably on the right track… In an interview with Variety just ahead of the release of his newest album Evangeline vs. The Machine, Eric Church talked pretty in-depth about his now-infamous (well, I guess it depends on your opinion on the set) from his headlining appearance at Stagecoach, where he played a gospel set to the shock of most attendees. It was an hour-and-a-half long acoustic gospel medley, complete with a full choir to back him up, and he of course pulled inspiration from his formative years in western North Carolina, where he grew up in the Baptist church singing old hymns that still resonate with him as an adult. The online reaction wasn’t great, to say the least, and a lot of fans up and left in the middle of it. He previously called it a “defining moment” in his career, and that remains true to this day. Eric told Variety that he likened it to Bob Dylan’s famous electric set at the Newport Folk Festival, which is probably a pretty accurate comparison in terms of how it changed expectations of what kind of music he “should” play and how different elements fit into country as a whole, similar to how Dylan turned the folk genre on its head. Of course, in 1965, Dylan was leading the American folk music revival, but he decided to take it in a new direction and start recording and performing with electric instruments. Much like how snap tracks and hip hop beats are controversial in country music today (and rightfully so), it was the same with Dylan making his folk music much more rock-influenced. At the Newport Folk Festival, Dylan was backed by a rock band, and got booed by a lot of people in the audience… it’s clearly not what they were expecting, or wanting, to hear that day. It’s a legendary, monumental moment in music, and I don’t think there’s ever been anything else that’s happened like it since. He continued in that new direction with albums like Highway 61 Revisited (1965) and Blonde on Blonde (1966), ultimately revolutionizing the industry as a result… at the time, he had some supporters, but many critics, though history looks very fondly at this famous set as a result, and I think Eric’s Stagecoach set is already receiving similar treatment. Eric says he had “never, ever” worked harder on something in his life, and he kind of expected a mixed reaction going into it. He say he’s since listened back to it, and feels it was “good” and “executed well,” so that’s all he really cares about: “Yeah, which I love. But I mean, for me, the biggest thing was, Was it good? When the reaction happened… I have never, ever in my life and career worked harder or had more invested in a show than I had in that show, because it was really me and (choral) voices — that was it. So it was on me for 90 or 100 minutes to carry this thing. You can argue the mechanism might have been wrong at Stagecoach, where you have 30,000 TikToks out there. I understand that. But I also knew that going in, and I knew the biggest megaphone for providing a creative moment like that… I would certainly get more reaction at a place like that than I would in a regular show in Iowa. So I think we knew what we were kinda getting into there. But the biggest thing for me was, as I listened back to it: It was good. It was executed well. And that’s what it comes down to, to me.” He went onto explain how Dylan’s Newport set was ultimately a “paradigm” shift, even though many in the crowd very much disliked what they saw at the time, but Eric was willing to take that creative risk and has no regrets about doing so: “It’s like Dylan goes electric at Newport, right? That didn’t go well, in the moment. People talk about that as a paradigm shift in music, but among people that were there in that crowd, and I talked to some people that were, it did not go well. And I think that sometimes you have to kind of put that out there creatively and go, ‘Hey, this is a one-time thing, and we’re giving it to this crowd for this moment. We’re doing it one time and we’re committing to the moment.’ And you’ve just kind of gotta follow that compass and go with it and let it go.” I think it’s clear that he still had some of those gospel elements in the aforementioned new album, and the 2024 Stagecoach set has only grown on me since last year. It will certainly be interesting to look back in even ten or 20 years, but even if it doesn’t stand the test of time the way Dylan’s Newport set did, I think Eric sleeps well at night knowing he followed his creative muse and did something so daring and different. I’m in no way saying these two events, or artists, are equal in terms of their longevity and impact, but I do think it’s an interesting perspective and way to get inside how Church himself now looks it that controversial set. Eric’s acoustic renditions of some of my favorite songs just doesn’t get old. If you never watched anything from his Stagecoach set, you’re missing out in my humble opinion: The post Eric Church Likens Controversial 2024 Stagecoach Gospel Set To Bob Dylan’s 1965 Electric Newport Folk Festival Performance: “A Paradigm Shift In Music” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

Fed Declines to Cut Rates

The Federal Reserve announced that they will make no change to the interest rate benchmark Wednesday, leaving interest rates in the range of 4.25 percent to 4.5 percent. Chairman Jerome Powell pointed to a solid job market and inflation still above the central bank’s 2 percent target rate as part of the rationale for the decision. Powell also acknowledged the potential impact of Donald Trump’s tariff plan on the economy, noting that “the effects on the economy remain highly uncertain,” but could result in higher inflation and unemployment. The relative good health of the economy gives the Federal Reserve the leeway to wait and evaluate changes as they happen, the chairman said. The next meeting of the Federal Reserve Board will be held in June. The post Fed Declines to Cut Rates appeared first on The American Conservative.
