UC San Diego said there is a 30% surge in new entrants who can’t do basic math. Want to bet they know how to protest though? We are being dumbed down. According to Inside Higher Ed, the number of first-year students at the University of California, San Diego, whose math skills fall below a middle […] The post UC San Diego: 1 in 8 Entrants Can’t Do Basic Math Despite a Solid GPA appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

It’s Time To Challenge Tehran’s Illusion Of Strength With Reality

In 1946, not too long after the end of World War II, Winston Churchill famously spoke of a “special relationship” between the United Kingdom and the United States — not only as a bond of history and language, but as a partnership grounded in shared principles and moral duty. That same sense of duty must guide us today as we confront the world’s leading state sponsor of terror: the clerical regime in Iran. Historically, when facing totalitarian regimes, Britain, the US, and other Western powers have placed local dissidents at the center of any discussion about the future of oppressed nations. Yet Iran remains a glaring exception. For reasons that defy logic and morality, successive governments have marginalized the voices of Iranian democrats. I am one of a growing number of Western politicians on both sides of the Atlantic who believe this should change and to this end, I will speak at the Free Iran Convention in Washington, D.C., on November 15, where more than one thousand Iranian experts, professionals, and academicians from all over the US, will present their vision for a free, democratic Iran. For nearly half a century, Western policy toward Tehran has prioritized negotiation over accountability, assuming the clerical regime’s grip on power was unshakeable. Many believed Iran’s rulers would never meet the same fate as the Shah — at least not without chaos in the absence of a viable alternative. That assumption was flawed from the outset. In the immediate aftermath of the 1979 revolution, the forces that helped topple the Shah — chief among them the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) — remained active, popular, and determined to oppose the theocracy that hijacked the revolution’s promise. The regime responded with brutal repression throughout the 1980s, culminating in the horrific 1988 massacre of around 30,000 political prisoners, most of them MEK members and supporters. This atrocity was meant to eliminate organized opposition once and for all. It failed. The MEK survived and went on to form the backbone of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), a broad coalition advocating regime change and democratic transition. Yet, tragically, the massacre convinced much of the international community that internal resistance had been extinguished — and that engagement with Tehran was the only realistic path forward. Encouraged by that misperception (echoed by the regime’s protagonists and lobbyists), the regime deepened its repression at home and aggression abroad. It became the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, the nation with the highest per-capita rate of executions, and the only non-nuclear-armed state enriching uranium to 60% purity — just short of weapons-grade. Ironically, by assuming the regime’s permanence, Western leaders helped create a situation where regime change has become essential for global security and human rights. Some progress is evident: the UK, France, and Germany recently triggered the re-imposition of UN sanctions following Washington’s return to a “maximum pressure” strategy. But it remains unclear whether today’s policymakers grasp how profoundly their predecessors misread the regime’s vulnerability. That misunderstanding can no longer be excused. Three nationwide uprisings — in 2018, 2019, and 2022 — have shown the Iranian people’s enduring commitment to democratic change. The unity and persistence of their demands reveal the strength of an organized opposition that, despite deadly crackdowns and decades of dismissal by Western analysts, continues to challenge the regime from within. The Free Iran Convention in Washington builds on this momentum. It follows major gatherings in Brussels and across Europe, where Iranian youth and dissidents reaffirmed their readiness for a democratic transition. The movement’s supporters will call for a coherent Western policy — one that recognizes the NCRI as a credible alternative and supports the Iranian people’s right to determine their future. Many of us in public life have already joined this cause. In parliaments on both sides of the Atlantic, lawmakers have endorsed resolutions recognizing the NCRI as a legitimate democratic alternative to the current regime and affirming the Iranian people’s right to establish a secular, non-nuclear republic. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the NCRI, has articulated a ten-point plan as a roadmap for a future democratic republic of Iran. It has gained cross-party support of the majority of members of both the US House of Representatives and the UK House of Commons. It is time for policymakers to act accordingly. The UK and European Union must designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization, and democratic governments should hold Tehran’s leaders accountable for crimes against humanity. Most importantly, the West must acknowledge the Iranian people’s right to overthrow tyranny and build a democratic future. Appeasement has never delivered stability. Courage, clarity, and solidarity with the Iranian people just might. * * * Rt. Hon. John Bercow was the Speaker of the UK House of Commons from 2009 to 2019. Dallas Cowboys Co-Owner Defends Bad Bunny Super Bowl Appearance, Says It’s About Unity, Not Politics

Charlotte Jones, daughter of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and current executive vice president and chief brand officer for the team, just weighed in on the Bad Bunny Super Bowl halftime show controversy. The Cowboys exec praised the decision to showcase the Puerto Rican artist, saying, “Our whole society is based on immigrants.” However, Bad Bunny is not an immigrant. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, a U.S territory, he is a U.S. citizen by birth. “I think it’s awesome, and I think our Latina fan base is amazing. And I think when you think about the Super Bowl, you want the No. 1 performer in the world to be there,” Jones said during an appearance on “The Katie Miller Podcast.” She added, “We’re on a global stage and we can’t ever forget that. Our game goes out to everybody around the world, and to get the premier entertainer to want to be a part of our game, I think, is amazing… We have a mixed culture. Our whole society is based on immigrants that came here and founded our country. I think we can celebrate that. I think the show’s going to be amazing.” In this episode, I sit down with Dallas Cowboys Co-Owner @cjonescowboys to discuss her life before the NFL, balancing work and motherhood, the popular DCC Netflix series, and more. 0:00 – Introduction 1:39 – Who Is Charlotte Jones in 30 Seconds? 2:21 – Life Before the Dallas… pic.twitter.com/JEIHrEPz2T — The Katie Miller Podcast (@katiemillerpod) November 11, 2025 The artist’s selection, made in conjunction with Jay-Z’s company Roc Nation, was controversial because of his past anti-ICE statements, including his refusal to schedule any tour stops in the United States due to alleged fears that his fans might be taken into ICE custody at his shows. Miller pressed, asking whether Jones thought it was a political statement, given Bad Bunny’s negative comments about ICE agents. “I don’t think our game’s about politics,” Jones insisted. “I don’t think people tune in to look at politics. We do everything we can to avoid politics. And I think in that moment, people will be watching the game, they’ll be celebrating music, and nobody will be thinking about what comments on the left side, what comments on the right side. That this is about bringing people together.” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed last month that there are no plans to replace Bad Bunny as the halftime performer despite the mounting backlash. “It’s carefully thought through,” Goodell said of the performance, as The Daily Wire previously reported. “I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism. It’s pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching.” “We’re confident it’s going to be a great show,” the commissioner added. “He’s one of the leading and most popular entertainers in the world. That’s what we try to achieve. It’s an important stage for us. It’s an important element to the entertainment value.” Bad Bunny has called ICE agents “motherf***ers” and “sons of bitches.” He also angered many NFL fans after addressing the backlash that none of his songs were in English, advising them to learn Spanish if they didn’t like it.

Border Agents Head To Charlotte After Illegal Immigration Sweep In Chicago

The Trump administration has set its sights on Charlotte for its next round of immigration sweeps, The Daily Wire has learned. Federal law enforcement sources said some Border Patrol agents already in Chicago for the Department of Homeland Security’s “Operation Midway Blitz” raids may be heading to Charlotte, North Carolina, as early as this week. Border Patrol chief for California’s El Centro sector, Gregory Bovino, will also head to Charlotte, sources said. He will later go on to New Orleans, according to NewsNation. Last month, Bovino posted on X, “We’ll put Charlotte on the list!!!” in response to a request that the feds deploy there. On Wednesday, Bovino wrote, “Crime way down in Chicago thanks to President Trump and Secretary Noem’s leadership. This is Homeland Security in action.” Crime way down in Chicago thanks to President Trump and Secretary Noem’s leadership. This is Homeland Security in action. #midwayblitz https://t.co/T8Awye13fx — Commander Op At Large CA Gregory K. Bovino (@CMDROpAtLargeCA) November 12, 2025 DHS didn’t confirm or deny the plans in a statement shared with The Daily Wire. “Every day, DHS enforces the laws of the nation across the country. We do not discuss future or potential operations,” Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said. The Trump administration deployed more than 200 border agents to the Windy City last month to help speed up their nationwide mass deportation effort, according to CBS News. And sanctuary leaders were quick to condemn the deployment. “The people of Chicago have deserved better than having CBP and Greg Bovino in this city,” Democratic Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said during a press conference on Wednesday. “We’ll have to continue to protect our neighbors and our friends and our families, and I will work very hard to continue to do that to keep people safe,” he added. Tensions have remained high in Chicago, with anti-ICE agitators trying to block agents from making arrests and cartels placing hefty bounties on the heads of the feds.

The Bipartisan Backlash Against Mail-Order Abortion Pills

The Bipartisan Backlash Against Mail-Order Abortion Pills

Americans are finding common ground on an unexpected issue, abortion drugs. New polling shows that rolling back dangerous Biden-era policies on the drugs is not only supported by a majority of Americans, but such support transcends traditional party divides and the “pro-life” versus “pro-choice” label. Seven in 10 likely voters, including 57% of liberal voters, approve of reinstating safeguards around the drugs by requiring a doctor visit for abortion drug prescriptions. Even more revealing, the majority of voters who were surveyed for the poll identify as “pro-choice,” representing a possible shift in how voters view the repercussions of the drugs for women’s health and safety. Another 70% of respondents support doctors screening for and reporting possible abuse and coercion before prescribing the drugs, a policy that could have prevented the tragedy Catherine Herring experienced firsthand when her husband purchased lethal abortion drugs online and tried to end her pregnancy by lacing her drinks. Catherine’s abuser was enabled by the Biden Administration’s removal of abortion drug safeguards, which eliminated in-person dispensing requirements for abortion pills under the Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program. As a result, it’s easier than ever for would-be abusers and coercers to obtain the pills via mail. The FDA’s recent approval of a new generic version of the abortion drug mifepristone only compounds these risks for women by making the drugs even easier to access. The response has been swift, with groups urging the FDA to rescind their approval and restore policies that protect women’s health and safety while affirming life. The dangers of abortion drugs have never been more apparent. A recent study from the Ethics and Public Policy Center found that serious adverse events from the abortion drug are approximately 22 times more frequent than the FDA currently reports, with over one in ten women experiencing sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging, or other harmful side-effects. A peer-reviewed article from the Charlotte Lozier Institute also debunked the popular claim that the abortion pill is “safer than Tylenol.” Just recently, the American Association of Pro-Life OBGYNs (AAPLOG) sounded the alarm on a dangerous sepsis-like infection that can occur after a pregnant woman takes mifepristone. Even Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. publicly admitted that the Biden Administration had “twisted the data to bury one of the safety signals, a very high safety signal, around 11 percent” related to abortion drugs. Yet the FDA significantly expanded access to mifepristone with the approval of the new generic pill, rather than pausing to examine the current evidence of harm or complete the agency’s promised report on the safety of the drug. In any other area of medicine, such findings would have triggered alarm, inquiry, and reform. In the absence of any such immediate action, the pro-life movement, state attorneys general, and Congress are standing in the gap to protect women. A coalition of advocacy and policy organizations – led by Live Action with support from Students for Life, Concerned Women for America, Heartbeat International, Advancing American Freedom, AAPLOG, the Life Leadership Conference, and several others – joined with state leaders to demand a reversal of the FDA’s decision to approve the new generic version of mifepristone. Attorney generals from twenty-two states, led by Alabama’s Steve Marshall, denounced the FDA’s “illegal and dangerous” rollback of in-person dispensing rules. Fifteen more have called on Congress to confront “shield laws” that allow doctors to mail abortion drugs into pro-life states while circumventing state laws. Earlier this month, Senator Lindsey Graham led 51 senators in sending a joint letter to Secretary Kennedy and FDA Commissioner Marty Makary, urging them to halt the rollout of the new generic drug and reinstate the safety rules that once governed its use. Senate HELP Committee Chair Bill Cassidy followed with an oversight letter pressing the same officials to explain how the agency could expand access while simultaneously pledging to “review the ongoing data.” Cassidy warned that the FDA’s decision “fails to mitigate the risks to women that have been identified and fails to protect women from the coercive use of the drug.” The central claim is simple: women’s health and safety are on the line. The FDA and HHS must act to restore crucial safeguards. Pro-life groups and elected officials echo the voices of women who have been harmed directly by abortion drugs. Women like Liana Davis, whose hot chocolate was laced with abortion drugs by her boyfriend, resulting in a miscarriage; Rosalie Markezich, who was coerced by her boyfriend into taking mail-order abortion pills; and Catherine Herring, who unknowingly consumed abortion drugs slipped into her drink by her husband. Their heartbreaking stories shine a light on the true costs of uncontrolled abortion drugs. Americans understand those costs too, and a majority want to see crucial safeguards restored. The FDA and HHS must respond and act before more women are harmed. * * * David Bereit is the executive director of the Life Leadership Conference. The views expressed in this piece are those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of The Daily Wire.
