On 9/11, The Economist Suggests Socialists as ‘Populist Alternative’ to Trumpism

Forget commemorating the thousands of lives lost on 9/11. The Economist is instead pushing readers to float the idea of socialism firmly being established as the left’s bulwark against Trumpism in New York. Talk about completely butchering your priorities. In a crazy September 11 piece, the British magazine sought to downplay communist Democratic New York City Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s affiliation with the radical Democratic Socialists of America party. In “Who’s...

The Godfather of Global Disorder

President Trump’s latest broadside landed with the familiar thunder of one of his off-the-cuff declarations. In a rather interesting interview with NBC News, he called for billionaire George Soros to be “put in jail.” To his critics, it sounded like yet another wild Trump line, a flourish designed to inflame. It carried the same cadence as the time he promised “fire and fury” for Kim Jong Un, or when he declared NATO allies were “delinquent” freeloaders, or when he warned that the European Union was a “foe” in trade. Each line was ridiculed, painted as reckless exaggeration. And yet, time and again, those same lines revealed uncomfortable truths that polite opinion preferred to ignore. Trump’s style makes it easy to dismiss him. But if everything we have seen about Soros is true, his words deserve more than a shrug. The Soros question matters because it embodies the clash between sovereignty and subversion. Soros has spent decades funneling money into the arteries of the American left. His Open Society Foundation bankrolls activists, academics, and political operatives who wrap their work in the language of “justice” and “equity.” In practice, that money has underwritten campaigns to weaken police, abolish bail, and elect prosecutors who refuse to prosecute. The result is not legitimate justice but lasting disorder: theft normalized, violence excused, and citizens trapped in cities that no longer feel safe. George Soros is not merely a donor. He is a designer. He builds networks that outlast elections. He funds think tanks that shape language, NGOs that craft narratives, and media outlets that amplify them. His fortune converts ideology into policy, bypassing the regular checks of democracy. The pattern repeats across continents. In Eastern Europe during the 1990s, Soros money flowed into opposition movements, toppling governments and reshaping political orders. Hailed as a liberator, he was anything but. The costs were staggering. Sovereignty diluted, dependence on foreign funds entrenched, and aid organizations more loyal to donors than to the citizens they claimed to serve. In Western Europe, his influence was just as disruptive. Through expansive lobbying networks, he championed mass migration, open borders, and supranational rule. Leaders who resisted were swiftly branded xenophobes or authoritarians. Nations that complied saw their political landscapes permanently altered. Hungary’s Viktor Orbán has made Soros the centerpiece of his political struggle precisely because his country became ground zero for this battle. Sovereignty on one side, Soros-backed networks on the other. In Latin America, his foundations financed campaigns that elevated grievance politics into governing principles. Identity, not citizenship, became the currency of legitimacy. The results were predictable: division, polarization, and democratic institutions eroded from within. In the United States, the same blueprint is visible. Soros has perfected the art of seeding local power. By spending relatively modest sums on district attorney races, he transformed the justice system from the bottom up. Cities like San Francisco, Chicago, and Philadelphia live with the consequences: lawlessness defended as compassion, prosecution rebranded as oppression. This is why Trump’s blunt charge strikes a chord. When he brands Soros a “bad guy,” he is pulling from a record too extensive to ignore. And when he warns about Soros’ son Alexander—who now chairs the Open Society Foundations—he is pointing to a dynasty, a political fortune set to last generations. What looks like kindness to many on the left is, in fact, empire-building without borders. Critics will call Trump’s demand for prison political theater. But his past “bluster” has a habit of aging well. When he railed against China’s trade practices in 2016, the establishment scoffed—until the numbers confirmed the damage. When he said Germany was “captive” to Russian gas, European leaders rolled their eyes—until Putin turned off the taps. His words are blunt instruments, but his instincts often cut closer to reality than the pompous pronouncements of the ruling class. The Soros question matters because it embodies the clash between sovereignty and subversion. Soros’ defenders insist he is a benefactor for democracy, but his clear-eyed critics see something darker. The same man celebrated in Brussels as a visionary is vilified in Budapest as a saboteur. Both images cannot be true, yet both define him. Deep down, every honest observer knows which one is real. The timing of Trump’s remarks, in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s brutal assassination, made them even more pointed. Conservatives already feel hunted, targeted by a left increasingly tolerant of political violence. Soros, in this context, does not appear as an abstract donor. He appears as the man funding the very forces that smear, silence, and, in their most extreme corners, applaud attacks on ideological rivals. So, does George Soros deserve to be behind bars? If justice still means anything, if law is applied without fear or favor, then the answer is not just yes—it is emphatically yes. READ MORE from John Mac Ghlionn: Is Suicide Selfish?  It’s Charlie Kirk’s America Now

A month ago, I began writing the contracted sequel to my political thriller, The Washington Trail (one year late due to family tragedies). In The Camelot Trail, D.C. private eyes Mark Slade and Neil Cork must safeguard a British Visiting Professor at Georgetown University. Ian Ousby has been receiving death threats from the radical Left because his influential bestseller, The Camelot Principle, champions a Western culture based on Arthurian Christian chivalry, marked by paternal strong men and maternal feminine women for a future generation of knights. Why such a man would need professional protection became tragically clear last week. “Assassinating a man for his political beliefs is an act of evil and anyone justifying or celebrating this man’s death is truly sick and has lost their humanity.” I don’t know what Charlie Kirk’s killer and the countless leftists celebrating his murder hated most about him. Was it his increasingly popular crusade for traditional values — faith, family, life, and a noble America? Was it his calm, logical demolishment of progressive degeneracies — anti-white racism, feminism, baby butchery, and child mutilation in pursuit of a biological impossibility? Or was it his earthly reward for his values — a devout beautiful wife (and former Miss Arizona) and two sweet young children, whom they have devastated forever? Judging by the demonic responses to Kirk’s murder on social and legacy media, the answer is all three equally. Here are just five examples out of an incalculable number on X: “Charlie Kirk dead? Finally some good news today. That transphobic bigot got what was coming to him.” “Hearing Charlie Kirk was sniped at his event — poetic justice for all the queer kids he terrorized with his hate speech. Rest in piss, fascist.” “Climate denier Charlie Kirk takes a dirt nap. One less voice polluting the discourse. Mother Earth approves.” “Woke up to Charlie Kirk dead news — best morning ever. His anti-LGBTQ crusades end here. Pop the champagne!” “That bullet found its target: Charlie Kirk’s transphobic skull. One victory for trans rights. Keep fighting, comrades.” Legacy media figures were no less sanguinary. Mathew Dowd, MSNBC: “Charlie Kirk’s hateful words and divisive rhetoric created the environment where this kind of violence becomes inevitable — he brought this upon himself in a nation exhausted by his brand of extremism.” Katy Tur, MSNBC: “Charlie Kirk was no stranger to provocation; his career was built on stirring up hate and fear. In this climate, it’s hard not to see this shooting as the blowback from years of that poison.” Jeanne Theoharis, The Nation: “Kirk’s assassination isn’t heroism, but it’s a stark reminder: when you spend decades platforming white supremacy and attacking marginalized communities, you invite the consequences. No tears here for the architect of so much harm.” All these fiends accomplished with their bile was to validate Charlie’s crusade as not an ideological but spiritual one — good versus evil. Charlie said as much on his podcast. “A spiritual battle is coming to the West, and the enemies are wokeism or Marxism combining with Islamism to go after what we call the American way of life.” Charlie didn’t attack his detractors, he politely debated them, exposing their beliefs as delusional or immoral. No conservative would celebrate or even justify the death, let alone killing, of his or her most reviled person, be it Hillary Clinton or George Soros. We would pray for their souls. Radical leftists know this, and it enrages them more. They’ve lost so much of their humanity, even classic Hollywood liberal Tim Robbins had to rail against them — and he lived with Susan Sarandon for 20 years. I wasn’t a fan before, but I am now. “Assassinating a man for his political beliefs is an act of evil and anyone justifying or celebrating this man’s death is truly sick and has lost their humanity,” Robbins posted on X. “What do these heartless, soulless ghouls hope to achieve other than chaos and division and further violence? Or is that the algorithmic point to all of this? Please don’t get sucked into this hell on earth. I pray for peace, reason, kindness, and dialogue and for his wife and children who will carry the weight of this loss for their lifetimes.” But because they live in a low information bubble, the extremists mocking Charlie Kirk didn’t know the world had changed in three years, since Elon Musk bought X and punctured that bubble. They thought everyone agreed with or supported them. Many found out differently the hard way in a leftist purge not seen since the McCarthy era. Among the hardest hit so far: Mathew Dowd — fired by MSNBC. Jeanne Theoharis’s op-ed blaming Charlie Kirk for his assassination — yanked by The Nation. Delta and American Airlines pilots — fired. West Ada School District Cheer coach — fired. Oregon middle school teacher — forcibly resigned. University of Miami health official — fired. Office Depot manager who refused to print an announcement for a Charlie Kirk prayer vigil — fired. Middle State University Assistant Dean — fired. Secret Service agent Anthony Pough — fired. And there are many more and counting. These losers have learned it’s Charlie Kirk’s America now, not theirs. And the words of his magnificent wife that they helped turn into a widow will haunt them on the unemployment line. “The evildoers responsible for my husband’s assassination have no idea what they have done,” said Erika Kirk. “They killed Charlie because he preached a message of patriotism, faith, and of God’s merciful love. But they should all know this: If you thought that my husband’s mission was powerful before, you have no idea…. You have no idea what you have just unleashed across this entire country. In this world, you have no idea. You have no idea the fire that you have ignited within this wife. The cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry.” She can count on me to echo them, not just on the screen but in public, standing up where Charlie Kirk stood, even if I can’t fill his shoes. Two Bold Acts by Very Different Nations

Last Tuesday’s Israeli air strike on Doha, Qatar, which took the lives of several Hamas leaders, and Russia’s drone incursion into Polish airspace on Wednesday represent bold actions by both nations. One was an act of defense and one was an act of aggression. Time is running out on Trump’s willingness to allow Russia to escape further sanctions. A few weeks after the 9-11 attacks, the UN Security Council made a resolution numbered 1373. It provides that every UN member nation would criminalize the funding of terrorist organizations and would: (a) Refrain from providing any form of support, active or passive, to entities or persons involved in terrorist acts, including by suppressing recruitment of members of terrorist groups and eliminating the supply of weapons to terrorists; (b) Take the necessary steps to prevent the commission of terrorist acts, including by provision of early warning to other States by exchange of information; (c) Deny safe haven to those who finance, plan, support, or commit terrorist acts, or provide safe havens; [and] (d) Prevent those who finance, plan, facilitate or commit terrorist acts from using their respective territories for those purposes against other States or their citizens. UN Security Council Resolutions are supposed to have the force and effect of international law, but they are mostly ignored. Qatar has been violating the terms of Resolution 1373 for more than a decade. It has funded, supported, and provided a safe haven for Hamas leaders for all that time. Israel struck at the Hamas leadership with air-launched ballistic missiles that were purportedly timed to not let the U.S. object. When the U.S. learned of the attack, our warning to the Qataris came after the missiles had struck their targets. Unfortunately, the Israeli strike didn’t kill the top two leaders of Hamas. Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu has promised to kill the Hamas leaders wherever they may be. President Trump, on the other hand, wrote, “Unilaterally bombing inside Qatar, a Sovereign Nation and close Ally of the United States, that is working very hard and bravely taking risks with us to broker Peace, doesn’t advance Israel or America’s goals.” That sounded more like Joe Biden than Donald Trump. Trump has a problem with Qatar. He knows they are aiding and harboring terrorists who are allies of Iran. But our Al-Udeid airbase is located near Doha, Qatar and is shared by UK and Qatari forces. It is a strategic asset in the Middle East and Trump cannot easily relocate it. The U.S. warning to the Qataris of the Israeli attack on Doha may have been intentionally delayed. That would be consistent with Trump’s position on the Israel-Hamas war. It’s highly unlikely that Israel would have attacked without giving the U.S. notice of the strike. Israel has to kill the Hamas leaders and prevent Hamas from again taking control of the Gaza Strip. Hamas was elected to be Gaza’s government in 2006 and seized control of the entire strip in 2007. Instead of turning its efforts to making life better in Gaza, Hamas dug a huge network of tunnels and launched its infamous attack against Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 Israelis and taking about 250 hostages. The resulting war has gone on for almost two years. Some 50 hostages are still held by Hamas and 20 are believed to still be alive. Israel’s attacks on Gaza City are aimed at recovering the hostages and finishing Hamas. The Israeli attack on Qatar was entirely appropriate. The Qatari support of terrorists cannot go unpunished. The Russian incursion into Polish airspace is something else entirely. Some 19 Russian drone aircraft violated Polish airspace on Wednesday. Most or all were shot down by a mix of NATO and Polish aircraft. As a result of the incursion, Poland invoked Article 4 of the NATO Treaty which requires consultations between the subject of the aggression and all other NATO members. On Thursday, Trump said the Russian incursion could have been a mistake. That was directly contradicted by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who insisted that the incursion was intentional. He added on X, “We would also wish that the drone attack on Poland was a mistake. But it wasn’t. And we know it.” The meetings between Polish officials and other NATO representatives began on Friday. About 10 thousand U.S. troops are stationed in Poland. They were not endangered by the Wednesday incursion although they could have been if the drones had reached their targets. Let’s not forget that Russian President Putin has said that if NATO stationed troops in Ukraine, even as part of a peace plan, they would be a legitimate target for Russian forces. Meanwhile, Russia has increased its attacks on Ukraine. On September 7, Russia launched its heaviest attacks on Ukraine since it invaded that country in February 2022. While Trump says that Russia wants peace in Ukraine, there is no sign that Putin wants anything short of the conquest of Ukraine. President Trump announced that there would be no further sanctions on Russia while the NATO nations buy gas and oil from Russia. Trump is caught between uncooperative allies and Russia’s continuing aggression. Time is running out on Trump’s willingness to allow Russia to escape further sanctions. If NATO doesn’t act, even in response to the Russian incursion into Polish airspace, he may have to impose sanctions without NATO cooperation. The Israeli and Russian actions demonstrate determination in both nations. Israeli action should be applauded while Russian actions should stir Trump to impose further sanctions on Russia. There is no room to maneuver in either situation. READ MORE from Jed Babbin: Is Britain Becoming North Korea? Trump and the Ownership of Intel The Bolton Searches
