Born in Belfast, Ireland, in 1951, Gerry McAvoy, then 19, joined iconic guitarist Rory Gallagher’s band and went on to record a series of sizzling albums until leaving Gallagher’s band in 1991. Sure, Gallagher’s classic cuts, like “Do You Read Me,” “Moonchild,” “Shin Kicker,” “Shadow Play,” and “Bad Penny,” feature some of the more iconic guitar work you’ll ever hear.
