Donations to Harvard Hit a Wall Amid Criticism Over Antisemitism on Campus

DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—Harvard University saw a decrease in donations this year after criticism of its handling of antisemitism on campus spurred multiple donors to cut ties with the school. Total gifts to Harvard decreased by nearly 15% in fiscal year 2024, dropping to $1.17 billion from $1.38 billion in 2023, according to a financial report released Thursday. Several high-profile donors publicly pledged to end their support of the university, citing Harvard’s failure to take a stance against antisemitism since protests took over the campus in response to Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Israel. Donations to Harvard’s endowment, which makes up 37% of its revenue, decreased by 34% since 2023, falling from $561 million to $368 million, according to the report. Harvard has been under fire for its handling of antisemitic incidents after anti-Israel protests overtook the campus and multiple Jewish students alleged the university failed to protect them. The House Committee on Education and the Workforce echoed this sentiment in December during an investigation after then-Harvard President Claudine Gay refused to state during a hearing whether calling for the genocide of Jews violated university policy. Billionaire donor Len Blavatnik’s family foundation, which is responsible for at least $270 million in donations to Harvard, halted its donations in December after expressing disapproval of Gay’s comments. Billionaire Les Wexner’s Wexner Foundation similarly announced its withdrawal of support from Harvard in October 2023, stating it was “stunned and sickened” by Harvard’s failure “to take a clear and unequivocal stand against the barbaric murders of innocent Israeli civilians by terrorists last Saturday, the Sabbath and a festival day.” Alan Garber, who took over Harvard’s presidency after Gay resigned following harsh criticism for her comments at the hearing, addressed concerns over the university’s environment in the report, stating that Harvard is working “to combat antisemitism and anti-Israel bias” and is “focused on rebuilding not only a sense of belonging but also genuine acceptance among members of our community.” Columbia University’s financial report disclosed similar findings earlier this month, noting donations decreased by nearly 30% after violent anti-Israel protests plagued the university. Harvard did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment. Florida Sues DHS for Refusing to Verify Voter Registration Citizenship Information

Florida Sues DHS for Refusing to Verify Voter Registration Citizenship Information

THE CENTER SQUARE—After requesting citizenship status information about registered voters in Florida, and not receiving it from federal agencies as required by law, Florida sued. In September, Florida requested information from the Department of Homeland Security and its subagencies about citizenship status of a subset of registered voters it identified and its request was denied. One month later, a coalition of attorneys general, including Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, called on DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to provide the requested information, after multiple states, including Texas and Florida, also asked for similar information. They made the requests as multiple states also removed thousands of noncitizens from their voter rolls. On Oct. 16, Moody sued Mayorkas and DHS in U.S. District Court Northern District of Florida Pensacola Division “for refusing to verify immigration records for the State of Florida to ensure voter-roll integrity.” Under the Biden-Harris administration, millions of illegal border crossers “have flooded into the country,” Moody said. “Florida has an interest in ensuring that only American citizens are registered to vote. Recently, the state identified registered voters who may not be U.S. citizens, and DHS refuses to provide information necessary to determine their immigration status.” Moody sued “to ensure noncitizens are not on the voter rolls.” “Voting is a right granted to American citizens—not illegal immigrants or other noncitizens,” she said. The 16-page lawsuit cites federal and state law related to maintaining accurate voter registration records, federal government agencies’ legal requirement to ensure only citizens are voting in elections, among other provisions. “Because the federal government is refusing to comply with these obligations and frustrating Florida’s ability to maintain the integrity of its elections, Florida files this suit,” the lawsuit states. Under DHS, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services uses the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program to make immigration status information available to state agencies. The SAVE program was created to share information with federal, state, and local agencies “for any legal purpose, such as credentials, background investigations, and voter registration,” the lawsuit says, citing information from the Federal Register. Florida’s lawsuit follows more than a decade of litigation and interactions with DHS on the issue. In 2012, Florida sued DHS requesting the court compel DHS to provide Florida with access to the SAVE program to verify voter immigration status. Florida was granted access and entered into a memorandum of agreement with DHS that allowed Florida to access SAVE program information. “SAVE is a useful but inadequate tool that the State of Florida now uses to protect the integrity of its elections, with notable limitations,” Florida found, citing a range of problems with the program in the lawsuit. “SAVE cannot verify a benefit applicant’s status using a Social Security Number, driver’s license number, U.S. Passport number, foreign passport number, Consular Report of Birth Abroad or other non-DHS documentation,” it states. Prior to suing DHS this time, Florida identified noncitizen registered voters but could not perform a search about them using the SAVE program because of its limitations. Last month, Florida requested USCIS to provide verification of citizenship status for the identified individuals, which it denied. “Florida has identified a subset of individuals for whom it cannot verify citizenship or immigration status through SAVE and for whom DHS refuses to verify citizenship or immigration status through other means,” the lawsuit states. The lawsuit requests the court to provide permanent injunctive relief, compel DHS to provide the requested information, and argues DHS and its subagencies are violating multiple federal laws, including the Administrative Procedure Act and the Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act. Other states like Texas requested similar information and didn’t receive it, The Center Square reported. Unlike Florida, Texas has yet to sue Mayorkas on this issue. New York woman carjacked, kidnapped, and brutally beaten by couple over disagreement about 10 cents: 'A ride from hell'

New York police say a woman was kidnapped, carjacked, and brutally beaten by two assailants before she was able to escape the harrowing ordeal. 'She’s holding down my head as she’s just repeatedly beating me and telling me I'm going to die tonight.' Allison Smith told WHAM-TV about the Sept. 13 incident that put her in the hospital. The 29-year-old says she was cashing out at the Four Guys deli in Rochester when a woman offered to cover her tab and gave her a five dollar bill. Smith only needed 10 cents, so she gave the woman $4.90 back and promised to go to her car to get a dollar. That's when the woman became visibly upset. "I said, 'No problem, I’m going to go across the street and grab it from my car, then I don’t want any issues,'" said Smith. Instead, the man and woman threatened her with a gun and got into her car. They forced Smith to drive them around the city and even picked up another woman whom they referred to as "wifey." Smith said they began to beat her brutally and at one point shoved a broken pipe into her mouth, which bloodied her lips. "She’s holding down my head as she’s just repeatedly beating me and telling me I'm going to die tonight," the woman said. The woman took a chance to save her life and fought back. "Whoever’s arm is on me, I bite down as hard as I could, and there was a small release," Smith said. "And then I ducked and just ran."She made her way to a convenience store, where someone called police for her. Rochester Police Captain Greg Bello told WHAM that someone driving Smith's stolen car led police on a chase the next day before hitting a curb. A group of people rushed out of the car, but police were able to arrest one suspect. 20-year-old Shawntae Hall was arrested and charged with assault, robbery, unlawful imprisonment, and multiple counts of grand larceny but was released and failed to appear in court. Police issued a warrant for her arrest. Smith's father told WHAM that his daughter was unrecognizable in the emergency room from the brutal beating she suffered. "I want to see people protected," Shane Smith said. "I mean, this could happen to anyone."'The interview with the victim can be viewed on the news video report from WHAM on YouTube. Like Blaze News? Lisa Marie Presley Really Died From Broken Heart, Wanted To ‘Join Her Son In Heaven’

Lisa Marie Presley struggled with the loss of her only son, Benjamin Keough, and was willing to join him eventually. She went as far as keeping his body in her cold bedroom for two months and got matching tattoos with him during that period. Psychologist Dr. Gilda Carle said she acted in denial within those months and took care of her deceased child like he was still with her. According to her posthumous memoir From Here to the Great Unknown, it was not until his body appeared to protest against being kept, that she took him to be interred at Graceland estate. Lisa Marie Presley blamed herself for Benjamin Keough’s suicide Lisa Marie Presley with son, Benjamin Keough / Instagram Benjamin had voiced out his frustrations and suicidal thoughts to Lisa Marie weeks before he took his life, and the late singer blamed herself every day for his passing. She felt guilty for not preventing him and carried on this pain until her last breath in January 2023. Despite the eerie occurrences in the room that housed Benjamin’s body, it was not until his father, Danny Keough, convinced Lisa Marie that she agreed to bury him. Those around her, including Benjamin’s older sister Riley Keough, testified that Lisa Marie’s final acceptance of the loss was a drastic decline in her will to live. Lisa Marie Presley and Benjamin Keough with matching tattoos / Instagram Lisa Marie could feel her late son speaking to her Riley revealed in the new memoir that Lisa Marie often claimed to hear Benjamin’s voice, just like she felt her father, Elvis Presley, visit her for years after his demise. According to Lisa Marie, Elvis did not stop appearing to her in dreams until she birthed Benjamin in 1992. Lisa Marie Presley and son/Instagram Aside from the bowel obstruction that led to her death last year, other factors, including depression, mental challenges, and drug addiction, were also contributory factors.Riley wrote that her mother died of a broken heart, and not just the aftermath of her weight-loss surgery from years before.
