AI Test Claims US Not Ready for War With China

Heritage Foundation researchers harnessed the power of artificial intelligence to argue in a new report that the U.S. is not prepared for a war with China.  “We believe a war is coming,” says Rob Greenway, Director of the Allison Center for National Security at the D.C. think tank. “We believe we are not prepared for it. We have proven we’re not prepared for it.” This weakness actually “incentivizes the Chinese,” Greenway told The Daily Signal.  Greenway and his team at Heritage used artificial intelligence to simulate an extended conflict with China in the Indo-Pacific, in order to identify vulnerabilities for both the U.S. and China. The report also provides recommendations to the U.S. government.  Data collection and analysis for the 375-page report, titled “TIDALWAVE,” took about a year.  “No one has done this before because it’s such a heavy lift,” said Greenway, who also served on Trump’s National Security Council in the president’s first administration. “Without leveraging technology and figuring out how best to make it work for our purposes, it would have been impossible.”  The exercise uncovered previously unidentified vulnerabilities for both U.S. and China, he noted, and thus parts of the report were redacted for national security purposes.  The Heritage researchers who led the project have briefed government officials and members of Congress on the report.  “The People’s Republic of China poses the most significant threat that the U.S. has faced in decades, yet despite such a broadly accepted fact, we remain dangerously unprepared to counter this adversary,” Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts said.  “Heritage is committed to applying the latest technology to undertake unprecedented challenges and provide solutions to the most pressing national security threats we face,” Roberts added.  Findings and Vulnerabilities Through the research process, Greenway says he was surprised to uncover the extent to which the U.S. has not corrected “deficiencies.” For example, in a conflict with China, critical U.S. munitions would begin to be unavailable after about a week and would be completely exhausted after 35-40 days in most cases, the exercise found.  But Greenway says he was also surprised to learn “the extent that China is vulnerable – far more so than I would have expected.” It is also clear from the research that U.S. partners and allies need to play a larger role in preparing to guard against Chinese aggression, he said.  The “cost” of a U.S. conflict with China would be “massive enough to push the entire planet into a global recession,” Greenway said, adding that disincentivizing China from starting a war is critical.  Addressing Vulnerabilities  Shortly before the report’s release, Trump announced plans to ask for a $500 billion increase to the U.S. defense budget for 2027. If Congress approves that increase, Greenway expressed hope that the new Heritage report is “going to inform” decisions related to future defense spending.  The money needed to fix the U.S. vulnerabilities is “a fraction” of the sum Trump is calling on Congress to approve for defense spending, according to Anna Gustafson, a research assistant in the Allison Center for National Security at The Heritage Foundation.  Solving the deficiencies would take an estimated three to five years and cost about $300 billion, Gustafson noted.  Greenway stated that the current goals are for Congress to approve the required defense spending, and for the Trump administration, more specifically the intelligence community and the Departments of War, Commerce, and Treasury, “to exploit the Chinese vulnerabilities that we identified.”  In short, the aim is for the U.S. to have “sufficient resources to engage in protracted conflict and win,” and for China to “have insufficient resources,” he said.   “We are confident that, as a result of doing this work,” Greenway says, “departments and agencies for our government and Congress are going to act.” The post AI Test Claims US Not Ready for War With China appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Justice Department Subpoenas Walz, Frey, Other Leaders Amid Opposition to ICE

The Justice Department has issued subpoenas for Minnesota’s Democrat leaders amid claims of conspiracy to impede federal law enforcement, sources say. The Justice Department has issued grand jury subpoenas to the offices of Gov. Tim Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her, and the attorneys for Ramsey County and Hennepin County, sources told Fox News. NEW: DOJ sources confirm to @FoxNews that six grand jury subpoenas were served in MN today in relation to conspiring to impede federal law enforcement, including offices of Gov. Walz, AG Keith Ellison, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, St. Paul Mayor, & Ramsey & Hennepin Counties.— Bill Melugin (@BillMelugin_) January 20, 2026 Frey’s office confirmed receipt of the subpoena, according to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has been served, his office says, days after news of a Justice Department investigation broke.— Kaitlan Collins (@kaitlancollins) January 20, 2026 Official Responses Walz responded to news of the investigation Tuesday. “This Justice Department investigation, sparked by calls for accountability in the face of violence, chaos, and the killing of Renee Good, does not seek justice,” he said in a written statement. pic.twitter.com/rGLZVW34kc— Governor Tim Walz (@GovTimWalz) January 20, 2026 Frey also responded to the news on X. “When the federal gov weaponizes its power to intimidate local leaders for doing their jobs, every American should be concerned,” the mayor wrote, including the news of the subpoena. “We shouldn’t live in a country where federal law enforcement is used to play politics or crack down on local voices they disagree with.” When the federal gov weaponizes its power to intimidate local leaders for doing their jobs, every American should be concerned. We shouldn’t live in a country where federal law enforcement is used to play politics or crack down on local voices they disagree with. https://t.co/fcWpOMimcK— Mayor Jacob Frey (@MayorFrey) January 20, 2026 Ellison confirmed that his office received “a criminal grand jury subpoena from the Department of Justice,” demanding “records and documents related to my office’s work with respect to federal immigration enforcement.” The Justice Department “is more focused on investigating my office than the killing of Renee Good,” Ellison wrote on X. “I will not be intimidated, and I will not stop working to protect Minnesotans from his campaign of revenge.” Trump’s DOJ is more focused on investigating my office than the killing of Renee Good.I will not be intimidated, and I will not stop working to protect Minnesotans from his campaign of revenge. https://t.co/BsFbEgYnvI— Keith Ellison (@keithellison) January 20, 2026 Immigration and Customs Enforcement has dispatched agents to Minneapolis in order to detain and deport illegal aliens. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Monday that law enforcement have arrested 10,000 illegal aliens in Minneapolis over the past year. Democratic officials have signaled their opposition to the presence of the federal law enforcement. Frey recently used profanity in urging ICE to leave the city, and Walz suggested President Donald Trump was “at war” with him. The two made those remarks after an ICE agent fatally shot Renee Good on Jan. 7 while she was driving her car, right after her car appeared to make contact with him. She had been using the car for hours to obstruct traffic and frustrate ICE’s law enforcement efforts. Protests against the presence of federal law enforcement have continued in the Twin Cities area. The Daily Signal reached out to the DOJ and the offices of Walz, Ellison, and Frey, but did not receive an immediate response. This is a breaking news story and will be updated. 45 Years Later, President Trump Is Delivering on Reagan’s Promise

One year ago today—Jan. 20, 2025—President Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. Freezing winds and biting cold forced the ceremony indoors, echoing President Ronald Reagan‘s second inauguration in 1985, when temperatures plunged to 7 degrees Fahrenheit and the event moved to the same historic space. During both inaugurations, winter’s fury became a powerful symbol of American resilience and unyielding resolve. Just as Reagan initially launched his revolution in 1980, Trump has, in one transformative year, taken bold strides to renew his promise to “Make America Great Again” and deliver real results for the American people. Under Trump’s bold leadership, American sovereignty has been restored. The days of mass migration, open borders, and chaos are over. The administration has driven record removals—over 2.5 million illegal aliens have departed the country through deportations and a surge in voluntary self-departures—while border crossings are essentially non-existent. For eight consecutive months, zero illegal aliens have been released into the country, and the U.S. has achieved net negative migration for the first time in at least five decades. Native-born Americans are finally seeing historic employment gains, no longer displaced by cheap foreign labor or jobs shipped overseas. The deadly fentanyl flow has been curtailed significantly, saving countless lives, communities are safer, and American jobs are returning to the homeland—right where they belong. Like Reagan, Trump has rebuilt U.S. credibility on the world stage with a clear doctrine of peace through strength. Through decisive trade policies, targeted military actions like Operation Midnight Hammer—which struck key Iranian nuclear facilities in June 2025—and broader efforts to project resolve, America is once again a force for good, protecting our citizens and allies, national security, and vital interests, all without endless wars. At home, Trump and congressional Republicans secured historic tax relief through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act (also known as the One Big Beautiful Bill). Trump also made the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent while adding new wins for working families: no taxes on tips, no taxes on overtime pay, and meaningful relief for seniors, including provisions that effectively eliminate taxes on Social Security benefits for most recipients. Families in states like Texas stand to see average tax cuts in the thousands of dollars annually starting this year. The act also eliminated more than $1.5 trillion in wasteful spending and ended reckless Green New Deal-style policies that burdened the grid with unreliable energy. Instead, we’ve unleashed proven sources: oil, gas, coal, and nuclear. The payoff is clear—gas prices have dropped to their lowest levels in nearly five years, putting billions back in Americans’ pockets and making everyday life more affordable. One year in, Trump’s decisive leadership has transformed promises into progress: borders fortified and sovereignty reclaimed, American strength and respect restored on the global stage, energy dominance unleashed, and hardworking families rightfully keeping more of what they earn through historic tax relief. While certain results—such as fully eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse, lowering inflation and mortgage rates even further, and completing the full identification and removal of all remaining illegal aliens—will take additional time, the proactive leadership driving these changes is already delivering clear, tangible gains across the board. Forty-five years after Reagan first declared it, Trump is making America great again—stronger, safer, and more prosperous. The foundation is firm, the momentum is unstoppable, and America’s greatest chapter is just beginning. How the Big Four News Apps Are Manipulating the Masses

Having already rejected traditional mediums for news and information, Americans may be falling into Big Tech’s carefully-laid media trap.  As NewsBusters reported in October of last year, 7 in 10 adults have either “not very much” confidence (36%) or “none at all” (34%) in newspapers, television and radio to report the news fully, accurately and fairly. But where are Americans getting their news now?  Odds are good that one source for news consumption — whether actively sought out or passively ingested — is at least one of the Big Four News Apps: (1) Apple News, (2) Google News, (3) MSN or (4) Yahoo News. Google News, MSN and Yahoo News, are all ranked inside the top 15 news websites in the United States as of December 2025, according to Press Gazette. But don’t feel bad for Apple News.  Two of the four aforementioned leftist news sources come preloaded on nearly every Americans’ smartphone, before users even have the opportunity to select their preferred apps. And according to Exploding Topics, Apple phones have the lead. As of April 2025,  iPhone (57.68%) and Android (42.06%) hold an apparent duopoly, with approximately 99.74% of the U.S. market share split between them. If the phone is an Android, then Google News was preloaded on the device. If it’s an iPhone, then the cellphone has Apple News.  And that’s just the start. Even if an American finds themselves in that tiny sliver of the population (less than 1%) that doesn’t have either a Google or Apple cellular device, that minority may still be using an email account associated with one of the Big Four News Apps.  Have a Microsoft (MSN) account or Microsoft Outlook email address? How about a Yahoo account or email address? If the answer is, “Yes,” to either, then, guess what: the Big Four News Apps are pushing elitist media propaganda to you too. Microsoft account and Outlook email address users are being fed a steady stream of MSN’s elitist media offerings, while Yahoo account and email address users are heaped on with elitist media from Yahoo news, Yahoo Finance and all of its offerings. Perhaps unlike the elitist media purveyors of old, the leftist drivel that the Big Four News Apps are pushing is hiding in plain sight. Focusing on Apple News over the month of December 2025, MRC researchers found that Apple News suppressed right-leaning media outlets throughout the entire month. From the report:  “Apple News failed to link to a single right-leaning media outlet among its top 20 daily articles during the month of December. Out of the 620 opportunities analyzed at approximately 10:00 a.m. each day by the Media Research Center, Apple News whiffed every single time.  “Instead, dozens of times Apple News published articles from leftist outlets like The Washington Post, NBC News and NPR and center outlets like Reuters, The Wall Street Journal and the BBC. “You have to go all the way back to Nov. 5 of last year to find the last time Apple News deigned to link to a single right-leaning site. That story was from British outlet The Telegraph covering the atrocities taking place in Sudan: ‘In Sudan's genocide, Only Those Who Pay Survive.’ Ironically,  Apple hid the article behind the Apple News+ paywall and only paid subscribers could read the full article.”  Google News was up to its own shenanigans in recent months.  For six straight weeks, Google News suppressed coverage of the widespread fraud allegations in the state of Minnesota. The online digital gatekeeper largely kept its viewers from seeing any new revelations on the Minnesota fraud scandal, only publishing four out of 840 stories in its top 20 morning editions on the matter between Nov. 28, 2025 and Jan. 9, 2026. Not one of the stories it published on the Minnesota fraud allegations came from a right-leaning outlet, and three of the stories actively sought to vilify Trump administration enforcement actions, underscoring just how devious Google News’s apparent censorship was during the analyzed period. This blatant suppression of critical stories and conservative viewpoints by the Big Four News Apps demands accountability.  With Americans increasingly relying on the Big Four News Apps for news and information, MRC will continue to shine a light on their suppression of right-leaning media perspectives, as seen in Apple News’s complete exclusion of right-leaning outlets in December 2025 and Google News’s near-total blackout of reporting on the fraud allegations in Minnesota. MRC remains steadfast in its mission to expose these digital gatekeepers for suppressing free speech and information while pushing the leftist narratives of the elitist media, and MRC will work tirelessly to protect free speech both at home and abroad, ensuring that Big Tech cannot silence dissenting voices or control the flow of information unchallenged.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Tells Foreign Leaders at World Economic Forum to Adopt ‘America First’ Model

Other countries should emulate the “America First” model, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told globalist leaders attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Tuesday. “We are here to make a very clear point: globalization has failed the West and the United States of America,” Sec. Lutnick explained, addressing politicians, businessmen and societal leaders from around the world: “It’s a failed policy. It is what the left has stood for – which is export, offshore, far-shore, find the cheapest labor in the world and the world is a better place for it. “The fact is it has left America behind. It has left the American workers behind.” Instead, other nations should adopt their own version of the Trump Administration’s “America First” policy by prioritizing their countries, Lutnick said: “We are here to say is that ‘America First’ is a different model – one that we encourage other countries to consider, which is that our workers come first [and] we can have policies that impact our workers.” “Sovereignty is your borders. You’re entitled to have borders,” Lutnick said, warning of the harm caused by embracing globalist ideology: “You shouldn’t offshore your medicine. “You shouldn’t offshore your semiconductors. “You shouldn’t offshore your entire industrial base and have it be hollowed out beneath you. “You should not be dependent for that which is fundamental to your sovereignty on any other nation – and if you’re going to be dependent on someone, it darn well better be your best ally. Okay?” Instead, European countries are making themselves dependent on foreign regimes that are hostile to them, Sec. Lutnick said, using self-destructive environmental ideology as an example: “Why would Europe agree to be Net Zero (emissions) in 2030 when they don’t make a battery? They don’t make a battery. “So, if they go 2030, they are deciding to be subservient to China, who makes the batteries.”   Globalization has FAILED. Secretary Lutnick at the World Economic Forum: “The Trump Administration and I are here to make a very clear point—globalization has failed the West and the United States of America. It’s a failed policy… and it has left America behind.” America is… pic.twitter.com/Urxl7pZwSe — U.S. Commerce Dept. (@CommerceGov) January 20, 2026
