More than two weeks after President Donald Trump announced a 100% tariff on movies produced outside of the United States, Los Angeles Democratic Mayor Karen Bass issued an executive order on Tuesday that she says will cut red tape and make it easier for entertainment professionals to film in her city. The move comes after production has shifted dramatically toward different locations outside the city, including U.S.-based filming spots and foreign countries where it’s cheaper and easier to make movies and television shows. “We are going to fight now,” Bass said. “While we push for the tax credits to be passed in Sacramento, we need to do what we can today to impact building in Los Angeles. “The City is taking bold action to support our legacy industry,” she continued. “Keeping entertainment production in L.A. means keeping good-paying jobs in L.A., and that’s what we are fighting for.” Specific popular locations in L.A., which she says will be easier for filmmakers to access, include the Griffith Observatory, the L.A. Central Library, and the Port of Los Angeles, among others. Hollywood, and many other areas within the U.S.A., are being devastated,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social earlier this month. “It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda! Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands,” he added. “WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!”

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Wednesday spotlighted the criminal records of eight illegal aliens who were deported to South Sudan as it gears up for a fight with a judge who could order them to be returned to the United States. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) explained that the illegal aliens’ countries of origin were unwilling to take them back. “We conducted a deportation flight from Texas to remove some of the most barbaric, violent individuals illegally in the United States,” said Tricia McLaughlin, the Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs for the agency. “No country on earth wanted to accept them because their crimes are so uniquely monstrous and barbaric,” McLaughlin added before explaining that South Sudan was “willing to accept custody” of the illegal alien criminals. However, U.S. District Judge Brian Murphy of Massachusetts has ordered the Trump administration to maintain custody of the deported illegals “to ensure the practical feasibility of return if the Court finds that such removals were unlawful.” “A local judge in Massachusetts is trying to force the United States to bring back these uniquely barbaric monsters who present a clear and present threat to the safety of American people,” McLaughlin charged before calling it “absurd” that the judge would attempt to “dictate the foreign policy and national security of the United States of America.” The plane landed in the nearby country of Djibouti on Wednesday, the New York Times reported. The eight men on the deportation flight were convicted of a range of crimes, including murder, kidnapping, robbery, and sexual assault, according to DHS. He was joined by another Cuban national named Jose Manuel Rodriguez-Quinones, who has been convicted of first-degree murder with a weapon, battery and larceny, and trafficking and possessing cocaine. Another deported was Tuan Thanh Phan of Vietnam, who was convicted of first-degree murder and second-degree assault. Laotian national Thongxay Nilakout, who was also convicted of first-degree murder, was also on the flight to South Sudan, as was Mexican national Jesus Munoz-Gutierrez, who had been convicted of second-degree murder. There’s also a pair of convicted Burmese sex offenders: Kyaw Mya of Burma, a criminal convicted of “lascivious acts with a child-victim less than 12 years of age,” and Nyo Myint, who was convicted of “first-degree sexual assault involving a victim mentally and physically incapable of resisting” as well as aggravated assault. Only one of the eight men sent to South Sudan is originally from the African nation. Dian Peter Domach, who was captured by ICE in May, was found in “possession of burglar’s tools and possession of defaced firearm,” and convicted of  “robbery and possession of a firearm.” The potential legal battle would mark the latest ruling from the judiciary to prevent the Trump administration’s deportation of criminal illegal aliens. United States District Judge James Boasberg, whose wife donated to Democratic candidates and opened a Washington, D.C.-area abortion clinic, hindered the administration’s efforts to deport illegal aliens who are suspected gang members to El Salvador. Another leftwing judge, Indira Talwani, temporarily blocked the Trump administration from removing temporary protected status for more than 500,000 migrants. Talwani donated to and volunteered for Democratic politicians, including former President Barack Obama and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).

Gas prices are projected to hit the lowest level in more than two decades on Memorial Day, according to the fuel price tracker GasBuddy. The price would be the lowest nominal level since 2021. Adjusted for inflation, the cost would be the lowest since 2003. The price is expected to remain low over the summer, potentially dipping below the $3.00 a gallon mark. The projected price is a significant drop from where the national average hit a year ago at $3.58. That is a slight drop from last summer when 76% of Americans said they planned to take a road trip, according to a GasBuddy survey. “While we’re forecasting the lowest summer gas prices in years, economic jitters are slightly dampening optimism — but we still expect a robust travel season, with millions of Americans hitting the road, many for extended trips,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said in a statement. The drop in gas prices comes as the Trump administration has made lower fuel costs a priority. The administration has taken steps to cut investment in uneconomic green projects such as solar and wind power and encouraged fossil fuel development. In February, Trump established the National Energy Dominance Council, an inter-agency council headed by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum. Energy Secretary Chris Wright serves as the council’s vice-chair. The council aims to boost fossil fuel production to lower costs for Americans as well as bolster the United States’ economic and national security. “I’m going to share two words that I do not think that you have heard from a federal official in the Biden administration during the last four years. And those two words are thank you,” Burgum told a gathering of oil, gas, and mining executives in March, making clear the administration’s support for those sectors. The Trump administration’s approach to energy was a sea change from that of former President Joe Biden. Under the Biden administration, the government saw climate change as an existential threat and poured funding into green energy projects while taking steps to tamp down fossil fuel use. Fuel prices surged under Biden. In June 2022, AAA found the national average for a gallon of gas had hit $5.00, the first time AAA had marked that price since it began tracking the price of gas in 2000. Fuel prices remained elevated well over the $2.39 figure that began Biden’s presidency for the rest of his term.

Truly wise people have known for a long time that college doesn’t make you smarter – in fact, it usually has the opposite effect. In today’s episode of You Can’t Make This Up, Smith College, an all-women’s school founded in 1871, just handed an honorary degree to Rachel Levine, a four-star admiral and former Assistant Secretary for Health who also happens to be a man formerly named Richard. It’s a big slap in the face to feminists who have been fighting for “women’s rights” since the school’s founding. It’s also an affront to all the normies out there who can plainly view the difference between girls and boys. In the case of Smith College, the school’s entire existence hinges on celebrating women. So, you know, maybe they should be able to identify one.  But these activists running our elite institutions have long since traded common sense for total fealty to radical Left-wing gender theory proponents. No wonder people have a negative view of college these days. Women’s rights advocate Riley Gaines, who gained notoriety after speaking out against a male competing as a woman in college swimming, posted about the controversy on X. “Smith college, a private *women’s* college in Massachusetts, awarded Rachel (Richard) Levine an honorary degree today,” she said. “He then delivered the commencement address. Ladies, congratulations — your graduation was led by the very thing feminism was allegedly fighting.” Smith College was actually one of the universities to roll out and develop a formal program for Gender studies! The dog was stranded on a rocky outcropping or part of a breakwall near Calumet Beach and 98th Street in Chicago, Illinois. @abc7chicago Chopper 7 was over the moment first responders helped get a dog out of Lake Michigan on Wednesday. It happened near 98th Street at Calumet Park in Chicago, video shows. ABC7 captured the moment first responders rescued the stranded dog on a rock at about 4:40 p.m. First responders used a ladder and a leash to get the pup to safety. ♬ original sound – abc7chicago – abc7chicago The rescuers used ladders and backboards to retrieve the dog from the deeper water. Once they moved him to a shallower portion, the dog jumped off the rock wall into the shallow water. From there, the dog walked to the shore. There was a crowd of onlookers, but they were unable to determine who the dog’s owner is. After the rescue from Lake Michigan, the dog went to animal control for treatment. @abc7chicago GOOD NEWS! Stretching the ladders across the gap, then creating solid footing with the backboards was genius. To get the dog up the incline would have been too difficult, which is why they opted to have it walk to shore. When they let the dog go, a firefighter held a rope tied to it. He shortened the rope as the dog got closer to him. Faced with the difficulty of this rescue without knowing the dog’s temperament, these rescue workers are all heroes. They carried out the rescue of this dog from Lake Michigan with precision that looked practiced. Thinking out of the box made this Lake Michigan dog rescue a success. They seemed like a well-oiled team carrying out a familiar routine. First responders go above and beyond daily to perform heroic acts.
