A Wisconsin resident rents a camping spot near Lake Delavan to be alone and grieve his grandfather's passing. What occurs while he is there may be connected to the Chicago Mothman phenomenon.I received the following account:"My grandpa told me to watch the crows‚ that they're guardians of the forest. He said they'll tell you if a predator is out there. My grandpa was fascinated with them and therefore I was too. Grandpa passed away in the early Autumn of 2002 and I took it pretty hard. I didn't go to the funeral because I just knew I would be a mess and I didn't want anybody to see me like that. He used to take me fishing when I was a kid to Lake Delavan in southeast Wisconsin.There was a campground just across from the lake. After my grandpa passed‚ instead of dealing with it along with my family‚ I decided to rent myself a campsite and I took off. It was strange being there without him and I hadn't been on the lake since I was a kid. It seemed like I was the only person there but that wasn't too surprising given the time of year. It was starting to get cold so while the lake did have a few other visitors during the day I had the campground all to myself at night.When I arrived I noticed a group of crows hanging around in the trees above me. Crows don't typically like people in the woods. I survived the first night but I didn't get much sleep. I was feeling pretty alone so I ended up keeping a fire going through the night. The fishing was good‚ so good in fact that I kept a couple of fish to feed the crows. I wasn't sure if they would take them since they seemed to distrust me but I thought that maybe they would make a little less noise. They did feed on the fish that I left for them.This went on for a few days. I fished all day and I came back to camp to make something to eat and feed the crows. These crows had a habit of making noise at night. Then‚ on the 4th night‚ they woke me up again‚ but it was different. The sounds were different. There was a sense of urgency in their caws. I thought back to what my grandpa told me about the crows and predators in the woods. I thought they were squawking at me but suddenly I realized they might be alerting me to something else out there.I grabbed my flashlight‚ and my knife‚ and unzipped the tent. I was greeted by a pair of red eyes from up in the trees directly across from me. I could almost see the outline of the creature but it didn't look right‚ it was too big. Birds weren't that big. The crows were cawing like crazy. I shined the light towards the creature and I don't even know how to explain it without sounding crazy. What I saw was a bird the size of a man. It had a dark-colored body and wings that were either black or brown I couldn't tell. Its eyes were red and large‚ that much I know for certain. The red brightness from the eyes seemed supernatural. Very weird! It appeared to have the proportions of a man‚ like it was half man half bird. The wings were huge and looked like those of a dragon. Yeah‚ I know that sounds crazy. I began to yell at it. At the same time‚ the crows continued harassing it.Together with the crows we drove the thing off and let me tell you when it took flight the whole forest shook. The thing was huge! I got out of there right at first light.It wasn't exactly the getaway I needed but it was somehow comforting to have been helped by the crows. I don't know what the thing wanted me to do but it must have been out there every night the crows weren't squawking at me. All those times they were telling me that there was a predator out there. Sometimes I think that the spirit of my grandpa was there as well‚ using the crows to warn me about the winged creature." A couple decided to move to an RV park in the southern woods of Oregon. The witness describes several unexplained incidents that she and others have noticed.The following account was forwarded to me:"Last summer 2023‚ I quit my job as a professor‚ we rented out our home and used that income to move into the woods of southern Oregon. My husband has a good job and I freelance. One of the ways I contribute to the household is by working as a camp host 3 days a week in the RV park we live in‚ in exchange for free rent and utilities. I usually just make reservations‚ but it means I get to spend some time outside talking to others. There have been a few spooky events happen that I wanted to share.First of all‚ the mysterious flute playing. Our park is in the middle of nowhere the woods. A small hill towers over us on one side (covered with impenetrable trees) and a river is on the other. At least 3 times a week we hear what sounds like a flute or recorder playing for an hour or so at a time. Sometimes‚ it comes from the deep woods‚ sometimes from the river. I brought it up to a resident who has been here since 2004. She strongly advised me to ignore it and not mention it.Next‚ a scraping sound at night. About once a week I hear a scraping sound dragging along the ground through the park‚ towards the deep woods. My husband has heard it‚ but no one else. Interestingly‚ the park 'Ring' alerts me that someone is standing in front of the office when I hear this sound‚ but the camera doesn't pick anyone up. Because I hate the ring going off when cars drive by‚ I have it set to where someone needs to be standing on the office porch to generate an alert.Next‚ a late-night caller. We regularly get calls after dark asking us for a space for the night at the last minute. I take their credit card over the phone and use a map to direct them to a space without leaving my trailer. The park owner explained that she didn't want me to help any late arrivals after dark. In fact‚ she makes it a strict rule that we're not allowed to answer the phone at all between midnight and 6 AM. I was told that camp hosts need to be careful about who they invite into the campground?Then other random things occur. I'm in charge of selecting long-term residents if we have any open spaces. I review criteria such as applicants' jobs‚ size‚ and age of their rig‚ etc. While children are welcome to visit the park for short stays‚ no one with kids is allowed to move in on a monthly/yearly basis. The owner hasn't ever given me a real reason for this.The park was built by a wood carver. There are massive and strange-looking totems‚ sculptures‚ carved doors‚ etc‚ all over the property.This all being said‚ our park is a slice of heaven. I love taking my dogs to swim in the river‚ wild mushroom gathering‚ and listening to the sound of the rain with just a thin roof between us. Also‚ I feel very safe here. I'm becoming more open to the idea that the woods can just be weird in some ways I don't always get.I wonder if there is something unexplained going on here or if it's just our imagination?" A Montgomery County‚ PA resident had an unsettling sighting of an ape-like creature in September 2023. The witness contacted me for any information that I could provide.I received the following account:"Hi. I had an encounter with something but I'm currently unsure as to what. I was told to contact you. Due to personal factors‚ I moved in with some family to a rural area of Montgomery County‚ Pennsylvania. My aunt's house‚ where I'm at‚ sits on one of several hills with a meadow below it. She also owns several acres of woods‚ with a creek running through them‚ and so on. It's a very desolate place.One morning‚ in September 2023‚ I woke up around 5 AM to some twigs snapping. I went outside and walked downhill to the meadow‚ and by some holly bushes that border the woods‚ I saw a large figure‚ looking ahead. I called out‚ at first assuming it was a person‚ as on occasion we will get hunters (but these are neighbors who give proper identification and basically let us know when they'll be around). Instead of responding‚ the figure walked away. It seemed to almost shrink into the woods.It was a large figure‚ easily six feet minimum. I didn't get the greatest look at it‚ as it was dark and somewhat far away‚ but I saw heavy‚ shaggy fur or hair. Looked like quills. I want to say multiple layers of it. Set back face‚ noticed large eyebrows and a nose‚ the head sunk into the torso. It was a mix of brown and gray fur or hair colors.I returned to the spot in a few hours and stepped over‚ behind the bushes. All the holly berries from the plants were gone‚ they were there a few days prior. There were also indents in the ground‚ maybe footprints. There were sticks snapped off of the trees‚ and thrown across the ground.I was certainly unsettled‚ so I looked into it further and thought I'd concluded that this might've been some sort of ape or apeman (Bigfoot?). I'm not a hunter‚ doing drugs‚ nothing like that. It was ape-like. Do you have any thoughts?" PNOTE: The witness later stated that the encounter occurred near Perkiomenville‚ PA. Even though the BFRO has no sighting reports from Montgomery County‚ I have received possible sighting reports in the past. A shimmering humanoid or 'Glimmer Man' is observed by a teen watching the street below his apartment in Chicago‚ Illinois. The witness was startled when the being looked at him!"I live in Chicago‚ Illinois and I'm in my early twenties. When I was in my teens during the summer here I was looking out my front window one night. Mind you the window was open due to my family living in a rather old apartment building at the time with a less-than-optimal air conditioner.So I'm looking out the window and I spot this weird area of distortion across the street. At the time for a moment‚ I thought it was a plastic sheet that had caught onto a bush that was in front of the house there.However‚ it moved. Like a person would‚ just shuffling about on the sidewalk‚ rippling like a person under a transparent sheet. I looked on in amazement and confusion not knowing what to make of what I was seeing.However‚ my amazement came to a halt when I felt the being look at me. It was as if it‚ like a person felt it was being watched and looked dead at me. I got scared and ran back into the back of the house.Never seen anything like it since. I know that sounds stupid or like some dumb dream but this happened. This actually happened." ONOTE: This is not the only time that a shimmering being or 'Glimmer Man' was reported in Chicago. These small to medium-sized cats weigh between 7 and 12 pounds and display muscular‚ agile builds that make them look bulky under their coats of hair. These cats enjoy hanging out on countertops‚ tables‚ chairs‚ and couches‚ especially when their human companions are nearby. They happen to come in a few different colors and patterns‚ too. These cats are like Siamese cats in that they have point coloration. This means that their bodies are white‚ to begin with‚ but they have colored markings on their tails‚ legs‚ ears‚ and face. The coloring is reminiscent of a seal‚ hence the name of the coloring. Instead of white paws and noses‚ they are dark brown on seal-point Snowshoes. 2. These darker markings are also on the legs‚ ears‚ and tails‚ like on seal point cats. 3. The deep brown markings look good enough to be drunk on a cold winter day or night. 4. However‚ they will display a light smokey hue that can look slightly purplish in the sunlight. Otherwise‚ the coat markings look light gray. 5. I’m old enough to remember when the late‚ great Rush Limbaugh referred to NBC’s Sunday political affairs show as Meet the Depressed. A return to that moniker might be in order after today’s opening segment on the latest NBC News poll‚ showing former President Donald Trump opening a five-point lead over incumbent President Joe Biden and triggering a panic over Biden’s “presidency in peril”. Watch as host Kristen Welker opens the show with utter shock over the poll before quickly finding a culprit for Biden’s bad numbers:  KRISTEN WELKER: Steve‚ these are some truly stunning numbers.  STEVE KORNACKI: They really are‚ Kristen‚ and let's just start with the bottom line. When you ask folks‚ hey‚ if it's the general election and it’s Trump versus Biden‚ in our poll Donald Trump now leads Joe Biden by five points.  Compare that to the last time we polled back in November‚ Trump was ahead then but it was only by two points. And it's even more significant when you look at it this way: over time‚ we have been testing for five years now- going back to 2019‚ a Biden-Trump matchup. Remember‚ 2019‚ 2020‚ Joe Biden led‚ he led big in every single one of our polls. For the first time in November‚ Donald Trump pulled ahead in our poll and now at five points‚ this is the biggest lead NBC has ever had in 16 polls for Donald Trump over Joe Biden. And of course‚ undergirding all of this is this question of- he is the incumbent‚ Joe Biden. We asked voters “what do you think of the job he's doing” and look at that‚ Kristen‚ 37% approve and now 60% disapprove.  WELKER: And we should say that is the lowest approval rating since former President George W. Bush's second term.  KORNACKI: Yeah‚ and put that in further context‚ too. Bush in his second term wasn't running for re-election. Here’s the presidents who were running for re-election in our poll. Starting their re-election year‚ what was their approval rating? Bush was over 50‚ he won. Obama was almost at 50‚ he won. Trump 4 years ago was 46‚ he lost. Look how low Biden's number is compared to those predecessors at this point.  WELKER: Their numbers all much bigger than president Biden's.  KORNACKI: Yeah. It shows you the improvement Biden has to make here in the coming months. The issues that are driving this‚ too‚ the economy‚ no surprise. We've been talking about it‚ but look at that advantage for Trump‚ 22 points… WELKER: Wow. KORNACKI: …and securing the border here‚ folks‚ a very important Trump with a 35-point advantage.  WELKER: The economy is so striking‚ Steve‚ because jobs are up‚ inflation is down- voters aren't giving him credit for that‚ clearly.  KORNACKI: Yeah. There are a couple of areas in here‚ I think‚ where Democrats see potential opportunities to grow Biden’s support‚ certainly they are hoping the economy- folks changing their perceptions of it and start rewarding Biden for it. That's what they're hoping‚ certainly. Certainly. One again‚ we have the media commiserating over the fact that those pesky ingrates REFUSE to give Biden the credit he deserves for this magnificent economy. Jobs are up‚ inflation is down‚ Welker says. True‚ but rents are through the roof‚ gas prices are all over the place and food costs continue to rise- data points that continue to stymie the Acela Media’s narratives. As is often the case with our media’s coverage of events: the purest‚ truest victim of the cruelties of the current cycle is the electoral prospects of Joe Biden. It is through this lens through which news coverage is filtered. The segment continues to sound the alarm. Whether it is on the age/ability question‚ the economy‚ the border‚ competence‚ Biden scores poorly. Furthermore‚ the poll shows some evidence of the continued crumbling of Biden’s 2020 coalition: a massive swing among Hispanic voters‚ for example‚ reduced enthusiasm among young voters and among Black voters overall.  The segment closes with what the poll shows to be its best hope: a conviction of Donald Trump on felony charges‚ which brings the election back to a toss-up.  Back to Rush Limbaugh: it is important to consider his words on polls when considering this latest offering from NBC News poll. What public opinion poll are they trying to shape? Two thoughts:  First‚ they appear to convey the urgency of getting the Trump trials back on the rocket docket. Watch for more media attacks on the D.C. Circuit of Appeals as they continue to deliberate the immunity question and craft a ruling that will most certainly be appealed to the full Court. Second‚ they are attempting to craft a permission structure wherein Joe Biden is replaced atop the Democrat ticket.  NBC News was in a panic today- and these numbers continue to trend‚ the rest of the media will quickly follow. There's a growing sense that‚ contrary to Welker's lede‚ it isn't just a "presidency in peril". We begin with our brand-new NBC News poll which brings more warning signs for President Biden and his re-election campaign. One of our pollsters tells us we are looking at a quote‚ “presidency in peril”. That's what they're hoping‚ certainly. How about this‚ though? Also cautionary for the White House. Go back four years ago- there was two folks in their 70s running‚ Biden versus Trump. And we asked then‚ did the candidates have the necessary physical‚ mental capacity. And it was about even‚ 41-38 (Trump). Now‚ you ask it- 46% say that Donald Trump does‚ just 23% when it comes to Joe Biden. And think of one of the central themes of Biden's campaign in 2020‚ he said he'd be competent. He said he’d be effective. Folks said they believed that in our poll in 2021 and the big reason that Trump lost. But now? Complete‚ total reversal. 48% say Trump competent and effective‚ barely a third say that for Biden.  WELKER: Hmmmmmm. That's right. He said he was going to bring stability back to the White House. KORNACKI: And now he's the incumbent and folks are maybe looking at him and then maybe looking at Trump as not the incumbent in a different light here. Just a couple of other things to get through.  WELKER: Yes. KORNACKI: On the foreign policy‚ again‚ Israel and Hamas center stage in the world picture right now‚ overall big disapproval for Biden in foreign policy‚ particularly on Israel-Hamas‚ that's particularly acute among the youngest voters‚ 18 to 34-year-olds. We have been tied‚ Trump versus Biden and a lot of those Biden voters‚ 18 to 34‚ they say they don't like Biden‚ they just don't like Trump more.  WELKER: It's this type of erosion among these key groups that worries Democrats. KORNACKI: And it is the area too‚ we say‚ where Democrats think there might be opportunity. They think they can get more young voters motivated to vote‚ maybe not by being for Biden‚ but by being against Trump. This is one area they think they can improve on and maybe make this race a little different‚ but the other key‚ too‚ independents. Trump‚ look at that‚ with a 19-point advantage. Also keep in mind- that shows you a lot of independents look very open to potentially another choice if something were to emerge‚ and also among white voters Trump with a big lead. Black voters‚ Biden with a big lead‚ but want to point this one out- Hispanic voters… WELKER: Wow. KORNACKI: …Trump with a one-point advantage. We've been asking‚ would those gains he made four years ago stick? Our polls suggest they certainly have‚ maybe grown. And we did ask this question‚ Kristen. If one of these cases this year ends in a conviction‚ a felony conviction for former President Trump‚ would that change your vote? 45% said that in that scenario they'd vote for Biden‚ 43% for Trump- this is also something the Biden campaign obviously hoping for‚ although there's a long history in polling about asking folks about hypotheticals and them actually reacting a little differently when it actually happens.  WELKER: A little of a game-changer but still incredibly close. Four suspected drug traffickers were arrested in Oregon after being found in possession of liquid heroin inside a moving truck‚ according to Fox News Digital. The suspects are believed to have links to an international crime ring in Mexico.The authorities apprehended the men on January 25 at a motel in Tigard. Investigators were drawn to the area after they discovered several individuals who worked for the drug trafficking operation were attempting to bring illegal narcotics across the Oregon state line.Authorities followed a rented moving truck that was driven by one of the suspects. There was also a red pickup truck that trailed behind the rented vehicle on I-84 around Bonneville until they arrived at a motel‚ per the report.Investigators soon obtained a search warrant for the vehicles and motel room. They found eight 55-gallon barrels filled with 370 gallons of liquid narcotics inside the moving truck. Two loaded handguns were also discovered inside the motel room‚ according to prosecutors.After testing was carried out on the liquid narcotics‚ it was confirmed to be heroin.The Seattle Times reported that the suspects arrested were Santos Alisael Aguilar Maya‚ 32‚ Marco Antonio Magallion‚ 44‚ Luis Deleon Woodward‚ 28‚ and Jorge Luis Amador‚ 25.All the suspects were accused of conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute heroin‚ according to the report. U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Armistead gave pretrial release to two of the four men in the case.Woodward's lawyer Casey Kovacic said his client did not have any connection to the U-Haul truck and only hitched a ride with a friend from Yakima to Portland in the pickup. U.S. Attorney Scott Kerin said that the amount of heroin discovered in the barrels was "astronomical‚" adding that it was "[s]omething we haven't seen here in Oregon — nothing even has come close to that in the past."He went on to estimate that the amount of heroin loaded into the moving truck would provide 53.3 million fatal doses of the drug. Following the record-breaking heat waves that made their way across the U.S. in the summer of 2023‚ three states on the East Coast saw a sudden uptick in severe "flesh-eating" infections‚ according to LiveScience.The report is primarily concerned with Vibrio vulnificus‚ which is a deadly bacterial species that resides in coastal waters. The Centers for Disease Control noted an infection can happen when a "wound comes into contact with raw or undercooked seafood‚ its juices‚ or its drippings or with saltwater or brackish water.*‚" adding that it can "cause life-threatening wound infections."The CDC went on to suggest that about one in five people who get infected end up dying just a day or two after being infected. The problem can become very serious if the bacteria enters an open wound‚ which can cause a "flesh-eating" infection known as necrotizing fasciitis.If the bacteria is ingested through raw or undercooked seafood‚ it can cause a serious gastrointestinal infection. This can sometimes result in vomiting‚ fever‚ or watery diarrhea. But it can also result in sepsis — an extreme response that can lead to life-threatening septic shock‚ per the report.The CDC's latest report on the matter stated that "[d]uring July–August 2023‚ 11 persons infected with V. vulnificus were reported to health officials in North Carolina (seven)‚ Connecticut (two)‚ and New York (two) (Figure).""The median patient age was 70 years (range = 37–84 years). Seven patients were male. One North Carolina patient was lost to follow-up. Among 10 patients with information available‚ all but one had at least one underlying condition‚ most commonly diabetes (three)‚ cancer (three)‚ heart disease (three)‚ history of alcoholism (three)‚ and hematologic disease (two). Six patients experienced either septic shock (four) or died (five); three experienced both. All of the patients who died had at least one underlying condition‚" the report continued.The study continued: "A notable feature of these cases‚ beyond their severe clinical outcomes‚ is that they occurred in the wake of record-breaking U.S. heat waves." Though the infections cannot be directly attributed to the sudden rise in temperature‚ it is possible it played a factor."As coastal water temperatures increase‚ V. vulnificus infections are expected to become more common‚" the report states. "Persons can take steps to prevent illness by avoiding wound contact with brackish water‚ salt water‚ and raw seafood‚ and by thoroughly cooking oysters and other seafood before eating."
