10 Underrated Country Love Songs That Need To Be On Your Playlist ASAP
Those mushy feelings.
Earlier this week, Jamey Johnson got married, and as he and his bride shared some of their love story, emotion flooded my brain. Johnson’s bride, Brittney Eakins, shared that he asked her to marry him the first time they met.
“‘How about we skip the dating? Let’s go ahead and get married and have some kids, and we’ll talk about a date after that.’ I couldn’t tell if he was kidding or not. He didn’t laugh. He looked at me and said, ‘You have no idea how long I have been looking for you.’”
I mean, come on, that is the kind of stuff Nicholas Sparks fans dream of. While their love story might be the kind you read in a book, there is one part of their wedding that I can’t get out of my mind. Their first dance.
Johnson called on Ernest to perform Chris LeDoux’s “Look At You Girl.” The stunning acoustic performance sealed the deal on their fairytale love story, and the heartfelt lyrics of the tune penned by Lanty Ross is such an underrated love song in country music. The lyrics highlight how deeply in love a man is with his woman and how he feels so grateful for her every time he looks at her.
Even if you aren’t familiar with the tune, just reading a few lines will show you what kind of love song this is.
“You mean everything to meAnd I’d do anything to have you stay foreverI’m an ordinary manBut I feel like I could do anything in the worldWhen I look at you, girl…”
After watching Ernest perform the song an embarrassing number of times, it got my brain thinking about the laundry list of love songs that country music has. Of course, there are classics like Alan Jackson’s “It Must Be Love,” George Strait’s “Carrying Your Love With Me,” and so many others I could sit here and name them all day. But out of all the classics, it’s often too easy to forget about many other deep cuts from artists old and new.
Given that we, as country fans, love a sad country song (because they make us oh so happy), we forgot that country love songs can move you just as much as the ones that punch you in the gut. After having this thought, I began thinking of some of my favorite love songs from artists old and new, and compiled a list of ten songs (I easily could have kept going, but chose to spare you readers) of love songs that I think are underrated.
So, without further ado, here are a few country love songs that should be added to your playlist ASAP (if they are not already there).
“Be Your Man” by Jackson Dean
This is Jackson Dean’s new release, and the groovy beat hooks you in instantly as he sings about how much he loves being claimed by this hypnotizing woman.
“Lord Willing” by Larry Fleet
“The Day I Die” by Chris Stapleton
I think this is one of Stapleton’s most underrated deep cuts. To read more about my thoughts on it, click HERE.
“Patina” by Brent Cobb
This is one of my favorite songs from Brent Cobb. On the first listen, I was so interested in the word “patina.” Cobb shared that his wife penned the song and used the term to describe how long their love has lasted.
“My wife, Layne, sent Patina to me one night after a show during a long stretch of a tour. Sometimes, if it’s an extended run, I can get in my head about worrying if I’m being the best dad and husband I can be due to being gone so much. It gets hard keeping up with it all. At least, on those nights it feels like it does. This was one of those nights.”

“It Must Be You” by Dolly Parton
“Chardonnay” by David Ferguson feat. Margo Price
“My Heart Skips A Beat” by Buck Owens
“The Way She Loves Me” by Cody Johnson
We all know that Johnson can lay down a deep cut about how much he loves his wife, Brandi. And while he’s known for his hits like “I’m Gonna Love You” with Carrie Underwood or “The Painter,” this one goes back to the early days of his career.
“The Way She Loves Me” was featured on his second record, A Different Day, and has remained one of my favorites from the Texas native.
“I Choose You” by The SteelDrivers
“Only Girl” by McKenzie Carpenter
