How Biden’s balderdash bests Trump’s tough talk

How Biden’s balderdash bests Trump’s tough talk

I’m truly bothered that tens of millions of Americans consider Joe Biden to be a “nice person” in contrast to Donald Trump‚ who is supposedly a loudmouth bully and the reincarnation of Adolf Hitler.Since I’m annoyed by Trump’s speaking style and name-calling‚ I am hardly a Trump zealot. But I doubt that Trump sounds more vituperative‚ dishonest‚ or malicious than Biden. Whether it’s a matter of hurling obscenities‚ accusing the opposition of being terrorists and wanting to put black people “back in chains‚” or assuring us that “Trump hates Latinos‚” Biden seems to be a nasty piece of work.Biden’s admirers are not dismissing his mendacity or his nasty outbursts. They just don’t know about them.More interesting‚ however‚ is why Biden’s foul-mouthed ragging gets a pass with so many people. And let’s not underestimate the widespread sympathy for this politician‚ no matter how egregiously he screws up. According to a recent Gallup poll‚ Biden’s popularity among Americans is at 57% and has only fallen four points from its all-time high of 61%. Although Trump is viewed as less “inept‚” his likability is no higher than 37%.Even more surprising‚ the Gallup poll shows that Biden beats Trump by six points on the question of “caring about people like you.” Given our overrun borders‚ inflated economy‚ and Biden’s periodic denunciations of white people in general and Republican voters in particular‚ why would I think he cares about ordinary people&;#63; In what ways has he benefited anyone other than far-left wokesters and Green New Deal crony capitalists&;#63;A credible explanation for this disparity in likability and empathy is that the legacy media has done a stupendous job in building Biden’s public image. It has accomplished this even while his presidency has gone south. Biden’s entire career in politics has been parasitic and has allowed him to acquire tens of millions of dollars‚ through means fair and foul. He has been able to get away with this‚ at least partly by mechanically and ungrammatically endorsing his party’s stands‚ whatever they happen to be at any given moment.Biden lies compulsively‚ and some of his whoppers have been mind-boggling. My own favorite falsehood is his attack on Justice Samuel Alito‚ who was then being grilled by the Senate before being confirmed to the Supreme Court. Biden strongly considered filibustering Alito for‚ among other outrages‚ opposing racial and gender quotas. He reminded this nominee that both of them were Catholics and supposedly wouldn’t have been able to gain admission to prestigious law schools because of their religious associations.In fact‚ Alito had graduated from Harvard Law School‚ while Joe barely made it into the law school of University of Syracuse and did so with help from well-connected family members. Despite Biden’s ridiculous bragging about his academic brilliance‚ according to a hardly hostile source‚ the New Republic‚ he was often at the point of flunking out of his law class.Among the multitude of self-promoting lies that Biden almost mechanically repeats is one that he recently uttered for the umpteenth time‚ namely that he is the first in his family to have attended a university. Actually‚ both Biden’s father and grandfather graduated from college. But Joe’s narrative may have special meaning for him since he managed to steal it from British Labour Party politician Neil Kinnock.Although this and Biden’s other persistent plagiarisms have been revealed in right-leaning news sources‚ the corporate press rarely bothers to bring them up. Why would the legacy media ever try to embarrass someone who‚ by his own telling‚ was arrested while looking for Nelson Mandela&;#63; Biden had supposedly gone to South Africa to pledge his support to Mandela in the AFC’s struggle against apartheid. One might expect no less from someone who had grown up with “close relations” to the Puerto Rican‚ black‚ Jewish‚ Greek‚ and Irish communities. (Did I miss any of these imaginary or vastly exaggerated connections&;#63;)Sometimes when I talk to longtime friends‚ even the ones who are not well-disposed toward Biden politically‚ I hear about this father and husband grieving for dead family members‚ while heroically dealing with a “troubled son.” His participation in Hunter Biden’s illicit influence-peddling rarely comes up in these conversations‚ except to assure me that whatever Hunter and Joe were accused of doing has been blown out of proportion.Media reports about Biden’s personal life often seem to have come from the staff of Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) or from the ladies on “The View.” We learn here about Joe’s declining energy and gaffes but rarely about his shocking personal foibles. The interview with Joe and Dr. Jill in People magazine in 2021 stands out as the purest kitsch I’ve ever encountered. It was also fatefully read by many millions of Americans. In an equally tasteless moment‚ TIME selected Joe and Kamala as joint “person of the year” for 2020 and showed this beaming duo on the magazine cover exulting in victory. If I were submerged in such hagiography‚ I too might be chirping about Joe’s niceness and his care for his fellow citizens. The Biden admirers I know are not dismissing his mendacity or his nasty outbursts. They just don’t know about either.

How our veterans helped Gary Sinise navigate terrible loss

The medieval ideal of chivalry‚ writes C.S. Lewis‚ &;quot;offers the only possible escape from a world divided between wolves who do not understand‚ and sheep who cannot defend‚ the things which make life desirable.&;quot; We need men who can be ferocious in battle yet gentle at the dinner table.Because we have forgotten this ideal‚ we often neglect or discard our warriors when their fight is over. We see this play out in 1995's &;quot;Forrest Gump&;quot; when the protagonist saves the life of his commanding officer in Vietnam. &;quot;Lieutenant Dan‚&;quot; as Forrest calls him‚ loses both his legs and becomes an embittered alcoholic‚ abandoned by his country. It is only through the unrelenting friendship and support Forrest later offers him that Lt. Dan is able to regain his life.The actor who played Lt. Dan has made it his life's mission to extend crucial support to real-life veterans in need. The Gary Sinise Foundation offers a wide range of services to those who have sacrificed for our country: smart homes and mobility devices for disabled veterans‚ resources for the families of fallen soldiers‚ and mental health care for those struggling with PTSD. The foundation also provides much-needed funding to support the work of first responders around the country.Sinise's son‚ McCanna &;quot;Mac&;quot; Sinise‚ worked for his father's foundation‚ where he took special pleasure in reaching out to the recipients of the organizations support. Also a musician and a composer‚ the younger Sinise occasionally played drums in Gary's Lt. Dan Band‚ which performs at military hospitals across the country. Mac Sinise died January 5 after a long struggle with a rare cancer. In a lengthy tribute to his son‚ Gary also expressed gratitude to the many military families he's met through the foundation: &;quot;I have met the most extraordinary people who have persevered and overcome the most difficult heartbreaking circumstances‚ and I have learned from them and been inspired by them. Knowing them gave me strength. Perhaps it was God's way of preparing me to meet our own difficult fight‚ having met and watched so many courageous families confronting what life had thrown at them.&;quot;Those wishing to learn more about the Gary Sinise Foundation and ways to help its mission can do so here.

Air fryer wings take flight with a touch of umami

Air fryer wings take flight with a touch of umami

Yes‚ that’s right. Another recipe requiring a Trader Joe’s seasoning blend. I’m a creature of habit. If I can find something that is reliably good‚ I’m going to use it again and again and then once again for good measure. This recipe requires an air fryer. Serve with a sweet dipping sauce‚ fresh salad‚ and (since the air fryer is already out) homemade fries&;#33;IngredientsChicken2 lbs chicken wings1 tsp white pepper1 tsp baking powder2 tbsp Trader Joe’s Umami seasoningAvocado oil spray canInstructionsPat the chicken wings dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Ensure the wings are EXTREMELY DRY. You’ll want to squeeze them out more than once with a fresh paper towel. This will ensure the skin puffs up and blisters in the air fryer basket during frying.In a bowl‚ mix the umami seasoning‚ white pepper‚ and baking powder.Spray the chicken wings lightly with oil.Dump wings into the bowl of dry ingredients and toss until the wings are evenly coated.Spray the interior of the air fryer with a light coat of oil.In a single layer‚ place the chicken wings in the air fryer and fry for 10 minutes at 400F.Flip the chicken wings‚ and continue frying for 8-12 minutes at 400F (depending on the size of the wings) or until the skin is golden brown and crispy. You may have to do two rounds‚ depending on the size of your air fryer.Serve with your favorite wing sauce (with this recipe‚ TJ’s Thai sweet ginger sauce is great) or eat dry and enjoy&;#33;

Homesteading curious&;#63; Try these small steps

Homesteading curious&;#63; Try these small steps

The first generation to grow up with food-delivery apps is looking to get their sustenance straight from the source..Homesteading is trending‚ and it’s probably the healthiest thing the internet has ever inspired.Influencers like the couple behind Ballerina Farm have romanticized the agrarian lifestyle and reinvigorated enthusiasm for starting from scratch in every aspect imaginable.Making your own cheese‚ growing your own vegetables‚ and feeding the chickens you keep on your 10 acres has become a dream for many a young woman.And a dream it remains.Unfortunately‚ most of us don’t have 10 acres on which to frolic as we harvest spinach for dinner from our perfectly manicured gardens. Then again‚ homesteading is the concept of doing what you can with what you have. So what if it doesn’t look like the picture-perfect image you saw on your favorite influencer’s profile&;#63; Your ancestors certainly didn’t care about that.It's OK to start small. Here are two steps I've taken that have improved my life. Start a small gardenWho needs a patch of land if you have a few containers&;#63; Grab some large enough for the number of plants you’d like to sow. Pro tip: You don’t have to fill them entirely with potting soil. Put some mulch on the bottom of the pots. Eventually‚ it’ll turn into soil and it’s SO much cheaper. Proer tip: Buy the damaged bags of mulch and soil. It might make a small mess in your car but it will save you stacks of cash. You’re welcome.Read up on which fruits and veggies grow in the season you’re hoping to plant in for your specific region of the country.Keep the soil moist‚ fertilize every month or so‚ and have fun with it&;#33;It’s not as hard as it seems. Here’s mine a couple weeks after the plants sprouted. Phoenix PainterAnd your first harvest is the most satisfying part. Phoenix PainterLearn how to ferment your food Me‚ personally&;#63; I’m a self-proclaimed kombucha addict. It’s an expensive habit. So‚ I embarked on an adventure to ferment my own. I’m not gonna lie‚ I got pretty good at it. If you‚ too‚ are a kombucha addict‚ here’s a handy guide to making your own brew. I tried SO hard to make sauerkraut. I really did. However‚ it remains a work in progress. You may have better luck. Here's the method I used. I recently helped a friend ferment his own yogurt‚ starting with a gallon of milk and a cup of store-bought yogurt. This recipe made it surprisingly simple. We ended up with a gallon for less than the price of a quart of off-brand Greek yogurt from Kroger&;#33;Admittedly‚ these few skills won't get you off the grid‚ but you might save a little money. And who knows — they may just whet your appetite to develop more self-sufficiency. Can't hurt to plant a few seeds.

New FPS is Deus Ex and Half-Life with dinosaurs‚ you can try it now

If fiction has taught me anything‚ it's that dinosaurs coming back is rarely a good thing. They'll escape a park‚ disrupt ecosystems‚ and perhaps most importantly‚ they'll tear us all to pieces. Luckily one upcoming Steam game wants to give you the tools to fight back. Mixing Deus Ex‚ Half-Life‚ and prehistoric predators‚ Athanasia is an immersive sim horror FPS‚ where you battle time-traveling dinosaurs in a low-poly science facility. Sounds great‚ right&;#63; Well‚ you can play it today. Acer just knocked $500 off its brand new 57-inch gaming monitor

Acer has just announced that its humongous upcoming Acer Predator Z57 miniLED gaming monitor will not retail for $2‚499 as originally announced‚ but will instead sell for $1‚999 - a massive $500 price drop. While that's still expensive‚ it's an incredible price for such a large screen. Acer's new contender for a spot on our best gaming monitor guide was announced at CES 2024 at the start of the year‚ alongside a host of other gaming monitors. I had the chance to write an Acer Predator Z57 hands on preview with the display and was impressed at the sheer scale of it‚ although Acer hadn't set up the demo to really highlight the high contrast of which it should be capable.
