Parents can imagine no greater love than our love for our children, and that love is what sent Barry Mason back into his burning home to save his precious son, Ethan Mason. The town of Wigan in Manchester, England, is grieving after an early morning fire on April 14 claimed the lives of a father and son. Witnesses saw 45-year-old Barry run back into the burning building to save his 4-year-old son. And dad Barry Mason lost his life while attempting to save his son. Following surgery, Ethan was placed in a medically induced coma while being treated. However, little Ethan died three days later on March 17, having sustained burns over 70% of his body. Detective Inspector Lee Gridley of the Greater Manchester Police's Wigan district told The Independent, "This is a devastating incident, and all of our thoughts are with the family of this young boy, who had his entire life ahead of him." A Tragedy for the Whole Community He continued, "Together with the earlier death, this is a tragedy for the Wigan community, and I know that many people will be shocked by this heartbreaking news. I hope people will join us in sending their absolute best wishes to all those involved in this incident as they begin their journey in the healing process." According to the Manchester Evening News, the blaze started in the home's kitchen around 2:30 a.m. Although police are investigating the fire, they do not believe it to be suspicious. Ethan's mom, Kelly Wilson Kupper, and her other children survived the tragic fire and are left to mourn and rebuild after losing so very much. Jessica Wilson, Kelly's sister, started a GoFundMe campaign to assist Kelly with the financial burdens that she faces in the midst of her tremendous grief. The fund has raised over 61,000 Euros, which equals approximately $66,000. Barry's family has described him as a "devoted daddy" and a "superhero." His sister-in-law Jessica shared on her Facebook post, "Barry, we are heartbroken. Such a gentle giant and a devoted daddy until your last breath. Words will never describe just how grateful we are to you, hold our baby tight up there." The dog risked being electrocuted as it bit on, tugged and pulled on the cords several times until it was successful. As the short clip demonstrates, dogs are loving, loyal, extremely intelligent and brave. The animal could have been greatly injured. Thankfully, the dog did not appear to sustain any injuries because of its heroic deed. In a paw-some twist of fate, Ray’s routine trip to the Dollar General turned into an unexpected "tail" of friendship and fortune. It was clear this pup was a lone ranger, in need of some company. Seeing the dog trotting around in Dollar General, Ray knew instantly he had to lend her a helping paw. Without a second thought, Ray scooped up Dolly and popped her into his shopping cart. He was determined to give her a taste of the good life – and maybe a sniff of some tasty treats along the way. She would first have to stay at a shelter for processing. But he was thrilled to be able to take her home for the night until she could be processed for adoption. He knew Dolly was the one as he recalled their first night together. He said, "When she crawled up on my shoulder like, ‘That's it. I'm done, I'm tired, I'm home.'" Ray found the idea of Dolly being locked up and alone for a few days heartbreaking. He wanted her to know she did indeed have a fur-ever home with him as soon as possible. Ray visited her every day until he was able to take her home. Finally, A Forever Home Even though their journey together hit a ruff patch, Ray knew the dog in Dollar General was meant to be his. He couldn't wait to give Dolly the best home possible. And they would be awesome paw-tners in shopping and in life. Despite the setback, Ray remained committed to his furry friend, visiting her regularly and promising to bring her home as soon as possible. After those long agonizing days of waiting and wagging tails, the day finally arrived when Ray received the news he had been waiting for – Dolly could come home with him for good. The reunion was nothing short of magical, with Dolly’s tail wagging furiously as she bounded into Ray’s arms.
