Released on April 28‚ 1995‚ in Japan and November 1‚ 1995‚ in the United States‚ Jumping Flash wasn’t a launch title for the PlayStation‚ which debuted on December 3‚ 1994‚ but the game’s producer‚ Perry Rodgers still believes it was a title that helped stress that the console was different. While first and third-party games such as Rayman‚ Twisted Metal‚ Wipeout‚ Battle Arena Toshinden‚ Ridge Racer‚ Tekken‚ NBA Shootout and NHL FaceOff all played roles in the diverse library the original PlayStation was known for‚ Jumping Flash was something else entirely.   Over 25 years since the game’s initial release‚ its place cemented in PlayStation history by its inclusion on the PlayStation Classic in December of 2018‚ as well as digital rereleases on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable‚ Perry sees it as a wacky game that found an audience and set the groundwork for tons of similar titles in the future. “It was one of those ‘quirky’ Japanese games‚” Rodgers said. “They always had appeal in the office and with gamers. It definitely paved the way for games in that vein‚ like Katamari Damacy and plenty of others.” Going on to serve as a Senior Producer on games such as MediEvil‚ Spyro the Dragon‚ Gran Turismo‚ Final Fantasy VII‚ Bushido Blade‚ Wild Arms and Hot Shots Golf 2 after his work on Jumping Flash‚ Rodgers’ career in gaming has been pivotal to the childhood of millions of gamers entranced by the original Sony PlayStation. How You Can Live with an Attitude of Action Dear children‚ let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. – 1 John 3:18 Larry Walters was an adventurous soul. One day‚ he went to the local army surplus store and purchased 45 used weather balloons. He filled them up with helium‚ tied the balloons to a lawn chair one by one‚ and strapped himself in. Armed with a BB gun to shoot the balloons and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich‚ Walters took flight. He only expected to ascend about 100 feet‚ but quickly found himself 11‚000 feet in the sky and in the middle of the air traffic pattern of Los Angeles International Airport. Too scared to shoot the balloons‚ he stayed airborne for over 2 hours‚ prompting an airport shutdown. When he was finally safely grounded and cited by the police‚ a local reporter asked him‚ "Why did you do it?" Walters responded‚ "Because you can't just sit there." While misguided‚ the spirit of Walters' comment is spot on. As believers in Christ‚ we can't just sit there. Whether old or young‚ rich or poor‚ in good health or bad‚ we can't ever use our circumstances as an excuse to just sit there. We have to get involved in God's purposes! Don't just sit there. Get involved in God's work. Make intentional time to encourage others in their walk with Christ. Share Jesus with the lost. As long as you're breathing‚ you have a mission! A Prayer for Radical ChangeBy Chelsey DeMatteis “And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes‚ and he regained his sight. Then he rose and was baptized..” – Acts 9:18 Watching someone you love live their life apart from Jesus is excruciating. You want to be the one to save them‚ even though you know that's not how salvation goes. I write this as the one who wasn't living for Jesus and caused excruciating pain to those who loved me. When someone asks if there is a story in the Bible that I feel most reflects my conversion‚ I always answer with Paul on the road to Damascus. While I wasn't persecuting Christians‚ my life was out of control. Off the rails is the best way to put it. I was quite literally running from God.  I had scales on my eyes‚ walls built up in my heart‚ and the false belief that I could do life fine on my own. This left me exactly the way you're imagining. Hurt‚ broken‚ lonely‚ sad‚ and looking for something or someone to fill me. Sadly‚ I kept looking everywhere and everyone except Jesus.  By God's grace‚ He met me in many miraculous ways. Some big and some small. He pursued‚ and pursued‚ and pursued. He never stopped coming after my heart even though I was running from Him. One night on my college campus‚ I was met by two officers citing me for breaking the law. Life was over‚ I thought; however‚ life was actually just beginning. Those two officers were the first glimmer of grace in my life‚ as odd as it sounds. This moment shook me up and got my attention. It revealed to my stubborn spirit that I didn't have life all figured out but that life was quite literally falling apart.  Two weeks later‚ I had to appear in court for my minor misdemeanor‚ though it felt anything but minor to me. My dad attended the hearing with me‚ and another miracle took place‚ a man showed up to stand on my behalf. This was not an attorney either of us had called; however‚ he stated a friend of my dad’s had asked if he was in the area to stop by. You're probably thinking the same thing I am as I tell this story again‚ "What in the world!". A man came and stood on my behalf‚ this man showed me the picture of what Jesus is in the life of those who love Him.  This encounter changed my life; two months later‚ I surrendered my life to Jesus. Just like Paul‚ Jesus met me on a messy‚ broken‚ hard road. And yet He chose to radically change my life. It says in the scripture that once Paul was filled with the Holy Spirit‚ "..immediately something like scales fell from his eyes‚ and he regained his sight. Then he rose and was baptized..” Acts 9:18 Immediate‚ radical‚ instant change. This is the work of our Heavenly Father‚ and He still does this today!  Let's pray: Lord‚ we praise you for still working in radical‚ instantaneous ways. You are faithful to pursue hearts even when they are running from you. Lord‚ give me the strength to love the people well in my life who are running from you. Help me point them back to you in a way to shows them your heart. In Jesus' name‚ amen. March 1‚ 2024 When You Feel InvisibleDORINA LAZO GILMORE-YOUNG Lee en español "And he said‚ ‘Hagar‚ slave of Sarai‚ where have you come from‚ and where are you going?'" Genesis 16:8a (NIV) For some of us‚ the weeks after Valentine's Day bring a slow ache. Every grocery store is stocked with discounted roses‚ every boutique has marked-down cards and heart-shaped boxes of candy‚ and we’re reminded of who and what we are missing. The year my husband went to heaven‚ I grieved a lot of things. One of the painful realities was that my love story had abruptly ended. I found myself a suddenly single mama raising three daughters on my own. I feared spending the rest of my days alone. My heart felt like a teacup poured out and shattered into a hundred pieces on the floor. I felt unseen‚ unloved and forgotten in my grief. But the story of Hagar in Genesis 16 was a profound reminder to me that God sees and loves us and that He does not forget His promises‚ even when we feel like we are alone in the wilderness. Hagar was an Egyptian girl who was sent (perhaps by Pharaoh) to be a servant of Sarai‚ Abram’s wife. After years of infertility‚ Sarai urged Abram to sleep with Hagar in hopes Hagar would bear a child. Hagar had no agency in this situation. She became pregnant‚ but as you might guess‚ the household dynamic quickly went sour. Genesis 16:6 says "Sarai mistreated Hagar" (NIV)‚ and Hagar fled to the wilderness‚ which felt like a better option than staying put. The wilderness is the landscape for many key moments in Scripture‚ often signifying a dry or lonely time when a person or group is suffering‚ struggling in their faith or in need of mercy. But God meets His people in the wilderness with His presence. God found Hagar in the wilderness and asked her two important questions: "Hagar‚ slave of Sarai‚ where have you come from‚ and where are you going?" (Genesis 16:8). God knew the answers — but He invited Hagar to share her story. He helped her understand she was not alone. God promised to care for her and all her descendants. Then Hagar called Him by the name El Roi in Hebrew‚ which means "the God who sees‚" because He saw her personally (Genesis 16:10-13). Although my story is vastly different‚ I've always felt a kinship to Hagar‚ lost in a wilderness under impossible circumstances. And just as He did for Hagar‚ God has met me in my grief with His love‚ and that makes all the difference. Maybe you are navigating heart weariness today too. Maybe you’re grieving a loss‚ a broken relationship or circumstances that feel impossible. Friend‚ El Roi cares deeply about you. He calls you beloved. He is your Maker and eternal Husband (Isaiah 54:5). God will never betray you‚ walk away‚ or fall short on His promises. Dear God‚ thank You for seeing me and adjusting my perspective. Health officials are investigating if there is a link between two new RSV vaccines and Guillain-Barre syndrome. Last year‚ an advisory panel for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended Americans aged 60 and older have the option of a single dose of RSV vaccine. Two RSV vaccine options would become available‚ one by Pfizer and the other by GSK. The CDC said patients should talk to their doctor before taking the shot. “Serious neurologic conditions‚ including Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS)‚ have been reported after RSV vaccination in clinical trials of older adults. It is unclear whether the vaccine caused these events‚” the CDC writes. The Associated Press reports that officials are investigating more than 20 cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome. An estimated 3‚000 to 6‚000 people develop GBS in the U.S. each year‚ and it’s more commonly seen in older people‚ according to the CDC. Most people fully recover from the syndrome‚ but some have permanent nerve damage. Guillain-Barre can occur in people after they are infected with a virus‚ but in some instances cases have been linked to vaccinations. RSV‚ or respiratory syncytial virus‚ is a common cause of cold-like symptoms but it can be dangerous for infants and the elderly. Last year‚ the CDC signed off on a recommendation made by the advisory panel‚ aimed at Americans age 60 and older. It was for a single dose of RSV vaccine. Out of 20‚000 vaccine recipients in Pfizer’s Phase 3 clinical trial‚ two Guillain-Barre syndrome cases were confirmed in adults in their 60s. Per CNN: One person’s illness had completely resolved after three months‚ and another was improving after six months. There were no Guillain-Barre cases among people who didn’t receive the shot. “Given the temporal association and biological plausibility‚ FDA agrees with the assessments of the investigators that these events were possibly related to study vaccine. … Therefore‚ [Guillain-Barre] is being considered an important potential risk‚” the FDA says in the documents‚ which were released ahead of a meeting of its independent vaccine advisers‚ the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee‚ on Tuesday and Wednesday. The committee is scheduled to discuss and make recommendations on RSV vaccines for adults 60 and older from Pfizer and GSK. Guillain-Barre syndrome is a rare neurological disorder in which the immune system attacks its own nerves‚ causing muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis. Although most people recover completely‚ some cases can be fatal or have lasting effects. The incidence of Guillain-Barre is about 1.5 to 3 cases for 100‚000 adults over age 60 in the US annually‚ according to the FDA. “Given the higher than background rate of GBS observed in the Phase 3 study‚ FDA will recommend a postmarketing study and enhanced surveillance for further evaluation of GBS and other immune-mediated demyelinating conditions with postmarketing use‚” the FDA says. In a briefing document submitted for next week’s meetings‚ Pfizer says that the cases have other possible explanations and that its shot is a “well-tolerated and safe vaccine‚ with a benefit-to-risk ratio that is favorable.” The company says it will conduct a safety study on Guillain-Barre syndrome if its RSV shot is approved.
