Most commenters agreed with Miss Smith, who recalled only having water during lunch or snack breaks at school. Even at that, pupils were to take turns drinking from a water fountain, leading to long lines and having to quench thirst in a hurry while those behind hurried them up.

She joked that kids today would have sent emails and complaints to the authorities if such was the case now. Despite not getting as much hydration as school children today, those from Miss Smith’s generation somehow survived and got through the day without fuss.

These days, water bottles have advanced from being essential to becoming a fashion statement with the demand for Stanley cups and Yeti bottles. In fact, you are considered cool if you walk around with a fancy water container to show everyone how much you prioritize hydration.

According to a TikTok user in Miss Smith’s comments, water bottles were not allowed to avoid frequent bathroom breaks. Another joked that school children in past times were too dehydrated to misbehave, as misconduct has risen in recent times. “I don’t remember drinking water as a kid. Unless it was from a hose, it was Kool-Aid or milk. How am I still alive?” a third commenter gushed.
