Monika Kim’s The Eyes Are the Best Part Is Getting a Film Adaptation

News The Eyes Are the Best Part Monika Kim’s The Eyes Are the Best Part Is Getting a Film Adaptation Actor Greta Lee will write and direct the project. By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on July 9, 2025 Monika Kim Photo Credit: Iris Minji Comment 0 Share New Share Monika Kim Photo Credit: Iris Minji Moinka Kim’s debut horror novel, The Eyes Are the Best Part, is getting a feature adaptation from actor Greta Lee, who will also be making her directorial debut with the project and is writing the script. According to Variety, Searchlight Pictures has picked up the adaptation, though no casting news has been announced yet, including whether Kim will also be in front of the camera acting as well as behind it. Here’s a synopsis, per Goodreads: Ji-won’s life tumbles into disarray in the wake of her appa’s extramarital affair and subsequent departure. Her mother, distraught. Her younger sister, hurt and confused. Her college freshman grades, failing. Her dreams, horrifying… yet enticing. In them, Ji-won walks through bloody rooms full of eyes. Succulent blue eyes. Salivatingly blue eyes. Eyes the same shape and shade as George’s, who is Umma’s obnoxious new boyfriend. George has already overstayed his welcome in her family’s claustrophobic apartment. He brags about his puffed-up consulting job, ogles Asian waitresses while dining out, and acts condescending toward Ji-won and her sister as if he deserves all of Umma’s fawning adoration. No, George doesn’t deserve anything from her family. Ji-won will make sure of that. For no matter how many victims accumulate around her campus or how many people she must deceive and manipulate, Ji-won’s hunger and her rage deserve to be sate Helen Rhee’s review of The Eyes Are the Best Part for Reactor also had this to say about the story: “If eating fish eyes is supposed to bring you luck, then Jiwon shows us that eating blue human eyes brought power. And it was this reversal of roles and power dynamic between our Asian female main character and the two white men that I thought was, dare I say, quite appetizing.” The project is still in its early days, so no news yet on when we can devour this film (with our eyes, of course).[end-mark] The post Monika Kim’s The Eyes Are the Best Part Is Getting a Film Adaptation appeared first on Reactor.

PBS Mourns Defunding of Planned Parenthood, Anniversary of Roe's Demise

PBS is not only lamenting that its federal funding could be cut; it is also now lamenting that Planned Parenthood’s funding has been eliminated. On Tuesday’s Amanpour and Company, guest host Bianna Golodryga and New York Times reporter Caroline Kitchener lamented not only the GOP’s Planned Parenthood decision but also the three-year anniversary of Roe v. Wade’s demise. Golodryga began, “Let's start with Planned Parenthood, because as we've covered for so many years now, it does more than just provide abortion care. Obviously, it provides a great deal of non-abortion services for women and family planning. Can you spell out what it means for the average viewer here who doesn't quite understand what happens if Medicaid funding is stripped?” Kitchener simply repeated Planned Parenthood’s line, “Planned Parenthood says that it serves about a million women a year who have Medicaid. And, you know, as we know, Medicaid cannot cover abortions, but it can cover the wide array of other services that Planned Parenthood provides. So, things like birth control, Plan B, things like cancer screenings, and STD testing.” She further repeated, “What Planned Parenthood is saying is that without this funding, approximately one-third of its clinics, 600 clinics total Planned Parenthood has, so one-third of those are at risk of closing. So, you have abortion rights advocates here talking about this as a, you know, quote, 'backdoor abortion ban,' because so many clinics will be forced to shutter.” Planned Parenthood claims to love choice, so it now has a choice: it can do cancer screenings, or it can do abortions, but lest anyone think that PBS is only talking about abortion in the context of rape, incest, or medical emergencies, Golordyga later recalled: Well, it has just been over three years now since Roe was overturned. You won a Pulitzer Prize for covering the impact of that decision over that course of time. And you wrote a widely read piece about a Texas teenager who wanted an abortion, who couldn't get one, and ultimately ended up having twins. Just talk to us about some of the real-life stories and the impact of this legislative rollback that it's had on the country. Kitchener replied, “I think the impact is enormous, and we are just beginning to see what that looks like. I mean, you know, that young woman that I followed, you know, I'm still in touch with her and she now, you know, she has twin baby girls. I think they're, you know, and they're not babies anymore. They're three years old. And you know, she is living a life completely different than the one that she thought she would be living.” In that article, her profile of Brooke Alexander shows a complicated figure. On one hand, she is portrayed as someone who supports abortion rights and a teenager who wanted an abortion out of nothing but convenience but couldn’t get one. There is plenty of discourse on the loss of freedom and assumption of responsibilities that come with not being a parent for both Brooke and her now husband, Billy. However, she is also shown being grateful her twins were born, ‘“Who’s to say what I would have done if the law wasn’t in effect?’ she said. ‘I don’t want to think about it… It’s really scary thinking that I wouldn’t have them.’” PBS didn’t touch on the part of Brooke’s story where she shutters at the idea of the twins not being alive. Instead, Kitchener lamented, “We know that there are certainly, you know, many women out there who have become mothers when they were not intending to be, largely because of these bans. But even beyond that, you know, there are a lot of, you know, varied experiences that people have had because of these bans.” Kitchener further decried: They are scared that, you know, something might happen to them, and they don't want to go to the hospital. You know, right now, I think it's important to say that women cannot get arrested for having an abortion under the current abortion laws. But I think the overarching point is that there is so much fear around this procedure right now, especially in those states with bans. While Golodryga intended Kitchener’s segment to be a solemn lament on the state of abortion in America, it was actually a promotion for taxpayer-subsidized abortion providence on taxpayer-subsidized TV in the name of convenience. Here is a transcript for the June 8 show: PBS Amanpour and Company 7/8/2025 BIANNA GOLODRYGA: So, let's start with Planned Parenthood, because as we've covered for so many years now, it does more than just provide abortion care. Obviously, it provides a great deal of non-abortion services for women and family planning. Can you spell out what it means for the average viewer here who doesn't quite understand what happens if Medicaid funding is stripped? CAROLINE KITCHENER: Well, Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest abortion provider and this strips Planned Parenthood of federal funding. So, you know, Planned Parenthood says that it serves about a million women a year who have Medicaid. And, you know, as we know, Medicaid cannot cover abortions, but it can cover the wide array of other services that Planned Parenthood provides. So, things like birth control, Plan B, things like cancer screenings, and STD testing. And what Planned Parenthood is saying is that without this funding, approximately one-third of its clinics, 600 clinics total Planned Parenthood has, so one-third of those are at risk of closing. But even beyond that, you know, there are a lot of, you know, varied experiences that people have had because of these bans. I've talked to a lot of women who have, you know, were intent that they would get an abortion, even if they were in states with bans and they have, you know, ordered pills online and they have been scared because, you know, they — while that medication is, as we've said, safe and effective, they are scared that they're going to get arrested. They are scared that, you know, something might happen to them, and they don't want to go to the hospital. You know, right now, I think it's important to say that women cannot get arrested for having an abortion under the current abortion laws. Biden doctor refuses to testify on the 'conspiracy' to conceal the former president's cognitive decline

Kevin O'Connor, former President Joe Biden's physician, pleaded the Fifth ahead of his highly anticipated testimony before Congress on Wednesday. O'Connor was set to be grilled before the House Oversight Committee over his involvement in concealing Biden's rapidly declining health while he was campaigning and in office. In a statement issued by O'Connor's legal counsel, the former White House physician pleaded the Fifth and cited physician-patient privilege. "This Committee has indicated to Dr. O'Connor and his attorneys that it does not intend to honor one of the most well-known privileges in our law — the physician-patient privilege," the statement reads. "Instead, the Committee has indicated that it will demand that Dr. O'Connor reveal, without any limitations, confidential information regarding his medical examinations, treatment, and care of President Biden." "Revealing confidential patient information would violate the most fundamental ethical duty of a physician, could result in revocation of Dr. O'Connor's medical license, and would subject Dr. O'Connor to potential civil liability," the statement continues. "Dr. O'Connor will not violate his oath of confidentiality to any of his patients, including President Biden."'The American people demand transparency but Dr. O’Connor would rather conceal the truth.'RELATED: Bombshell internal docs reveal the extent of Team Biden's political miscalculations?Joe Biden’s doctor reportedly plead the fifth in his deposition before Congress today What are they hiding?! pic.twitter.com/8smicz3O0Y— TheBlaze (@theblaze) July 9, 2025 House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) said O'Connor's refusal to testify clearly signaled that he was involved in the "conspiracy to cover up President Biden’s cognitive decline.""President Joe Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, just pleaded the Fifth at his deposition before Congress today," Comer said in a statement. "It’s now clear there was a conspiracy to cover up President Biden’s cognitive decline after Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s physician and family business associate, refused to answer any questions and chose to hide behind the Fifth Amendment.""The American people demand transparency but Dr. O’Connor would rather conceal the truth," Comer added. "Dr. O’Connor took the Fifth when asked if he was told to lie about President Biden’s health and whether he was fit to be President of the United States. Congress must assess legislative solutions to prevent such a cover-up from happening again. We will continue to interview more Biden White House aides to get the answers Americans deserve."RELATED: FBI, DOJ Epstein memo sparks right-wing outrage: 'Nobody is believing this' Photo by Kevin Dietsch/Getty ImagesO'Connor's refusal to testify comes amid growing speculation that Biden's aides and staff were complicit in this alleged "conspiracy" to cover up his health. Most recently, a leaked memo from the Biden campaign showed his campaign advisers pressuring him to partake in an early debate "before Americans would already be voting." The memo also bizarrely wrote you and your in reference to Biden in all caps throughout the document, presumably to avoid confusion for the intended reader and raising further questions about his mental acuity.“By holding the first debate in the spring, YOU will be able to reach the widest audience possible before we are deep in the summer months with the conventions, Olympics, and family vacations taking precedence,” the memo reads.Byron York called the memo "the worst political advice in the history of the world."Like Blaze News? 'My laptop is a bomb': Florida man's alleged mid-flight bomb threat forces emergency landing — now the FBI is involved

A Florida man — who allegedly told authorities that he was recently released from a mental health facility — made a bomb threat mid-flight that forced the commercial airliner to make an emergency landing, according to police. At 1:48 p.m. on Sunday, Allegiant Air flight 1023 departed from Florida's St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport en route to the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport in Virginia, according to the flight tracking site FlightAware. The suspect reportedly told investigators that he took his medication on Saturday night but had been 'suffering from a lack of clarity.'Shortly after the plane lifted off, a passenger seated in the last row of the plane allegedly announced that he had a bomb in his laptop. According to an FBI affidavit obtained by USA Today, the suspect — identified as 27-year-old Taj Malik Taylor from Largo, Florida — told the passenger next to him, "My laptop is a bomb."When several passengers asked Taylor what he meant by his remark, he allegedly lifted his laptop case and kept reiterating that it was a bomb.A passenger notified the flight crew about the alarming bomb threat. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement, "On July 6, 2025, at approximately 2:03 p.m., deputies were alerted to a verbal bomb threat made by a passenger on Allegiant flight 1023, headed to Roanoke, Virginia."According to police, "Detectives say several other witnesses on the plane also heard Taylor state that he had a bomb."The commercial airliner was rerouted back to St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport and landed at 2:08 p.m. An Allegiant Air spokesperson told USA Today, "Allegiant does not tolerate disruptive behavior of any kind, so the decision was made to return to the airport. The plane landed safely and was met by law enforcement officers, who took the passenger into custody."The airline added, "We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused our passengers and thank them for their patience."K-9s with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office searched Taylor's belongings, but no bomb was found.RELATED: 'If you challenge me, it will result in your death': Watch fists fly on Frontier flight as passenger gets pummeled All of the other passengers and crew were also forced to exit the plane. The Allegiant Air flight didn't arrive in Virginia until 7:57 p.m. — roughly five hours later than scheduled.Taylor was removed from the plane and interrogated by authorities. "Taylor did not admit to making the bomb threats but stated that [the woman sitting next to him aboard the flight] was rude to him," the FBI affidavit said, according to Fox News."Taylor stated that he was recently released from a mental health facility," the affidavit reads. The suspect reportedly told investigators that he took his medication on Saturday night but had been "suffering from a lack of clarity."The affidavit accused Taylor of acting "willfully and maliciously with reckless disregard for the safety of human life."Taylor was arrested and charged with making a false bomb threat. If convicted, Taylor faces a fine of up to $25,000, a prison sentence of up to five years, or both.According to arrest records, Taylor was transferred into the custody of the U.S. Marshals on Monday. The FBI is leading the investigation, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.Taylor appeared for his initial hearing in Tampa federal court on Monday afternoon.RELATED: 'Bodies all around me': How lone survivor in seat 11A of doomed Air India flight walked away from crash that killed 241Like Blaze News? Immigrant claims to be a changed man after murder, pleads with ICE to stay

Everyone makes mistakes, but the mistakes immigrant Justin Chung made are a little worse than going 80 in a 55.Chung, 35, a Korean American man in Los Angeles, immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 2. At the age of 16, he was involved in gang-related activity and was convicted of murder and attempted murder. After serving 14 years of an 82-year sentence, he was released early — but he’s now been arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement while preparing for a voluntary departure.“A Korean immigrant facing deportation in Orange County is pleading for a pardon after turning his life around. Justin Chung immigrated to the U.S. as a baby and admits that he did make some mistakes,” a reporter on KTLA said, painting Chung as a changed man.“After serving 14 years behind bars, he says ICE now wants to send him back to a country he doesn’t know,” the reporter continued.“Listen to the spin on this story,” BlazeTV host Pat Gray comments. “All he did was make a bad choice of killing someone and attempting to kill someone else. So it was murder and attempted murder. A bad choice.”“When I was 16 years old, I was involved in the wrong crowd, and I was involved in a gang-related shooting. Unfortunately, somebody did die. And that’s something I live with,” Chung said in an interview on KTLA.“Well,” Gray comments skeptically, “It was because he shot them.”Want more from Pat Gray?To enjoy more of Pat's biting analysis and signature wit as he restores common sense to a senseless world, subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.

China’s secret grip on Boston: CCP proxies apparently infiltrate City Hall

Chinese Communist Party members have reportedly managed to infiltrate a U.S.-based nonprofit embraced by one East Coast mayor's administration. The Boston Urban Forum, an organization that states it is "dedicated to nurturing community cohesion and development," hosts a monthly public meeting at Boston City Hall.'China has installed hundreds of CCP proxies in every major city across America.'However, a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation found that the forum, which "invites officials and professionals from political, academic, and business sectors to discuss municipal policies and livelihood issues," has hosted speakers identified as CCP members for at least half of its events. A DCNF translation of Chinese government and university reports found that of the 10 events hosted at Boston City Hall since the BUF's founding in 2024, at least eight CCP-affiliated moderators or guest speakers attended five of them. The organization's website states that its monthly forum was established "with support from the City of Boston."Further, it notes that its co-founder, Gary Yu, "joined Michelle Wu's campaign for Boston Mayor in 2020 as the Chief Asian Community Liaison Director" after "recognizing the need for [the] Asian Community to be more active in politics."The DCNF reported in April that Yu helped Wu's campaign raise over $300,000.The news outlet also previously revealed that Yu is listed as an official of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, which federal authorities have warned "was a CCP organization used to influence overseas Chinese."RELATED: CCP-linked donor helped Boston Mayor Wu's campaign raise $300K: Report Matthew J. Lee/The Boston Globe via Getty Images Additionally, Boston participates in a "sister city" program with Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. The DCNF reported that Yu took credit for proposing Boston-Hangzhou Day, noting that Wu was "very supportive" of the idea. Wu presented the Boston Urban Forum with a certificate of recognition in April and reportedly thanked the organization for its "contributions and service to the community on behalf of the City of Boston." Wu was also previously listed as one of the nonprofit's "VIP guests" until mid-June, according to the DCNF. The City of Boston is still listed as a sponsor of the Boston Urban Forum.Ina Mitchell, an investigative journalist, told the news outlet, "China has installed hundreds of CCP proxies in every major city across America.""These proxies present themselves as civic-minded leaders working to bridge the cultural divide between the U.S. and China at a grassroots level — but they are anything but civic-minded. These bad actors blend in clandestinely, hiding their true allegiance to the 'motherland' behind the respectable veneer of legitimate U.S.-based quasi-government organizations," Mitchell said.Mitchell explained that China's proxies use "feel-good endeavors," such as forums, galas, and other events, to "open up a plethora of opportunities for the CCP's agents to co-mingle with U.S. lawmakers, police, and titans of industry.""If you were to ask me what the endgame is, it's to make sure that captured lawmakers are influenced to lean toward pro-Beijing policies and shape public narrative in support of China," Mitchell told the DCNF.RELATED: Agriculture secretary unveils plan to stop China’s farmland grab, bio-material smuggling threats Boston City Hall. Photo by Jonathan Wiggs/The Boston Globe via Getty Images Scott McGregor, an author and former Canadian intelligence official, told the DCNF that the events provide CCP agents with an opportunity to "craft pro-Beijing narratives where ideological messaging is mixed in subtly within entertainment formats.""Ceremonies where U.S. lawmakers give their tacit endorsement to United Front operatives with awards and commendations is another soft propaganda tactic used to build reputational trust for CCP proxies operating in the U.S.," McGregor continued. "What most American citizens don't realize is that these proxies and the U.S.-based organizations they have set up here are part of the larger CCP United Front apparatus that is driving the engine of China's overseas influence operations in America."Wu, Yu, and the Boston Urban Forum did not respond to the DCNF's requests for comment.Like Blaze News?
