Clash of Cultures at Super Bowl LX

While making much of America's 250th birthday, the game's Halftime Show sought to utterly redefine "America" to mean the entire Western Hemisphere.

Republicans Save the Department of Education

In his 2024 campaign President Trump said he wanted to shut down the Department of Education. Created in 1979, the Department of Education has spent many billions of dollars and imposed numerous “reforms” on America’s schools. A result has been a continuing decline in American students’ academic performance. In March, President Trump signed an executive …

Zach Bryan Mocks Kid Rock, Calls Turning Point USA Halftime Show “Embarrassing” And “Cringe”

Guess we know which halftime show he watched. Zach Bryan took to Instagram after the Super Bowl, and the dueling halftime shows, to throw shade at Kid Rock and the Turning Point USA All-American Halftime Show – and doubled down after he began receiving messages from angry fans. Thanks in part to an absolute snoozefest of a game between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots, the biggest storyline from Super Bowl LX will no doubt be the controversy surrounding Bad Bunny as the headliner for the halftime show. The Puerto Rican rapper has been an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump and his immigration policy, and many on both the right and left saw his selection as the headliner as a middle finger to the president from the NFL. Now, in reality it was no doubt just a blatant money grab as the league tries to expand its reach beyond the United States, which is the same reason we’re getting a record 9 international games next year. But you know how it is in this politically charged climate. Everything’s a Rorschach test and people see what they want to see. Anyway, the selection of Bad Bunny led conservative media organization Turning Point USA, which was founded by the late Charlie Kirk, to organize their own alternate halftime show, which aired at the same time and featured Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice and Gabby Barrett. And your opinion about either show probably depended on which side of the political aisle you fall on. Well Zach Bryan took to Instagram to make it clear which side he was supporting, sharing a video of a friend jokingly watching the TPUSA halftime show on his phone while blocking out Bad Bunny with his hand. And Zach added his own commentary mocking Kid Rock: “What kid rock actually thinks is happening across America” While Zach clarified that his friend actually watched the Bad Bunny halftime show with him, apparently his joke upset quite a few people. Zach took to Instagram to share some of the messages he received, while also doubling down and slamming the Turning Point USA halftime show: “I don’t care what side you’re on, a bunch of adults throwing temper tantrums and their own halftime show is embarrassing as hell and the most cringe s— on the planet” Now, it shouldn’t be surprising that Zach enjoyed the Bad Bunny halftime show. He seemingly endorsed the headliner’s anti-ICE comments at the GRAMMY Awards last week, sharing Bad Bunny’s anti-ICE rant from his acceptance speech to his Instagram story: And he also seemed to take issue with Kid Rock’s testimony to Congress a couple weeks ago, though it was a little unclear what his problem was. Kid Rock testified in front of the Senate Commerce Committee during a hearing on concert ticket prices, and had harsh words for Ticketmaster and Live Nation: “In 2009, Congress was told – under oath – that merging Live Nation and Ticketmaster would benefit artists and fans. The CEO of Live Nation called the merger an “experiment” and promised it would increase competition, empower artists, and lower costs. He also said, and I quote, “a system that empowers artists benefits everyone.” Almost need a rim shot after that.” Kid Rock would go on to call the merger between Ticketmaster and Live Nation a “failed experiment,” although he admits it’s not the only problem with the ticketing industry: “Should Ticketmaster and Live Nation be broken up? Probably. Would that alone fix things? I’m not sure it would. But I am sure of this: No artist should be forced to sell their tickets without a say in who sells them and how they are sold.” He then went on to blame corporate greed and the lack of a competitive market for the problems the industry is facing: “If artists had real choice, real competition would follow. And tickets would end up in the hands of real fans, at the prices the artists set. It’s no secret this industry is full of greedy snakes and scoundrels – too many suits lining their pockets off talent they never had and fans they mislead. The truth is, much of this could have been – or still could be – solved through technology, especially proof-of-humanity tools. It hasn’t happened yet because there’s just too much money in the secondary ticket market. Ticketing companies didn’t fail to stop this – it seems they chose not to.” Regardless of how you feel about Kid Rock and his politics, his comments seem like something many (if not most) can agree on: There’s nobody who really thinks that Live Nation and Ticketmaster do a good job, right? It’s an issue that Zach Bryan has obviously been outspoken about in the past, even naming his 2022 live album All My Homies Hate Ticketmaster. When he played Red Rocks last year he priced all tickets at $50 and only made them available the day of the show in an attempt to combat scalpers and Ticketmaster’s disastrous “dynamic pricing.” But when somebody shared a video of Kid Rock’s testimony, with a caption featuring his quote saying that Live Nation and Ticketmaster should “probably” be broken up, Zach left a comment that had fans scratching their heads: “Are you f—ing kidding” Now, I’m not sure what exactly Zach had a problem with. Maybe it was just the fact that Kid Rock was testifying before Congress in the first place, or maybe he didn’t think that his comments were strong enough. Surely he doesn’t disagree that Ticketmaster and Live Nation need split up, so who knows. But regardless, it’s safe to say that Zach isn’t a Kid Rock fan – and he definitely wasn’t a fan of the Turning Point USA halftime show. The post Zach Bryan Mocks Kid Rock, Calls Turning Point USA Halftime Show “Embarrassing” And “Cringe” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

“They Love A Cosplay President”: Charley Crockett Goes Scorched Earth On Trump, Shades Jelly Roll, Elon Musk & More In Lengthy Super Bowl Instagram Rant

Many years ago, Super Bowl Sunday used to be one of the few nights in the year that we could all put aside our differences and come together as a nation to watch one of the country’s great pastimes. Recently, however, it’s become quite the opposite. In what feels like a reaction to our ever-divisive political climate, it seems as if the Super Bowl and everything surrounding it have followed suit. Particularly, that came to a head this year when the NFL selected Puerto Rican rapper and global superstar, Bad Bunny, to headline this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. While it’s quite easy to see why they selected the “DtMF” singer, given that the NFL is making a greater push worldwide and in Latin America in general, it didn’t stop many from being outraged considering the fact that he almost exclusively performs in Spanish. Beyond the expected outrage online from many opposing the 6x Grammy winner’s selection for the Super Bowl, even more dialogue and further division was fueled upon the announcement that Turning Point USA, the conservative nonprofit founded by the late Charlie Kirk, was hosting their own alternative Super Bowl halftime show headlined by Kid Rock, Lee Brice, Brantley Gilbert and Gabby Barrett. With so much dialogue coming in from both sides of the political aisle leading up to this year’s Super Bowl, we’ve already seen plenty of hot takes flying out from nearly all corners of the internet. But hours before the big game, however, Texas troubadour and recent Grammy-nominee, Charley Crockett, took to Instagram to go scorched Earth on the current state of our nation. In turn, the “Jamestown Ferry” singer would slam the likes of President Trump, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, there was seemingly a veiled shot at Jelly Roll, and more. View this post on Instagram He would open up the post by referencing the “cosplay cowboy” mantra given to him by Gavin Adcock after the “Run Your Mouth” singer found himself at odds with Crockett last year. Other artists, perhaps most vocally Paul Cauthen, have also accused Charley of having a phony backstory In turn, Crockett would call President Trump a “cosplay president,” alluding to the fact that the president received multiple deferments and ultimately avoided being drafted in the Vietnam War. He’d then subtly call out Jelly Roll for his impassioned Grammy speech about his faith before bafflingly comparing it to Bad Bunny’s and noting he “talked like Jesus.” “They keep saying I’m a cosplay cowboy but they love a cosplay president. Some folks have been on here calling Muhammad Ali a draft dodger when y’all got one in the White House. When I was at the Grammys the other night I saw a guy get up and talk about Jesus, and then I saw Bad Bunny get up there and talk like Jesus. The country music establishment should be taking notes on a Puerto Rican American who hasn’t forgotten his heritage and brought his culture’s traditional music back to the front, showing the world something new with it.” Crockett would then go on to call the president a grifter who’s only good at “portraying a successful businessman as a reality TV actor.” Boldly, the “$10 Cowboy” singer would then call for Elon Musk to be deported after claiming that the SpaceX and X (formerly Twitter) CEO bought the 2024 election. Additionally, he’d call for Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal and the highly controversial data company, Palantir, to be sent back with Musk, given that Thiel is a German-American citizen. “The President is a grifter who bankrupted 6 casinos. That’s pretty extraordinary considering it’s a rigged business in favor of the house. The only thing he’s good at is filing lawsuits and portraying a successful business man as a reality TV actor. Last time I checked Elon Musk was an immigrant from South Africa but there he is standing in the White House buying our elections. Let’s deport his a** and send Peter Thiel back with him since they both openly believe in a post democratic society where men of their class are above the law. Forgive me if I have a problem with a 34 time convicted felon running this country when I lost the right to vote or own a weapon for years over marijuana.” The Texas native would finish the lengthy post by condemning everyone supporting the current administration, likening it to “mental slavery.” He’d also call for more empathy and attention for the poor before wrapping up by telling his followers not to forget Muhammad Ali’s famous “I Am America” quote, as well as the coal miners of Harlan Country, Kentucky, in the 1930s. “As long as you’re hating the oppressed and loving your oppressor you’ll never know why our generation is poorer than our parents and grandparents. As a great man once said it’s welfare for the rich and rugged individualism for the poor. If you can sleep at night licking their boots that’s between you and yours, but that type of thinking isn’t freedom. It’s mental slavery. Every single right we have as a people wasn’t handed to us. We had to fight and take it. Judge a man by how he treats the poor and those who he views as being able to do nothing for him. Don’t forget why Muhammad Ali said ‘I am America.’ Remember the coal miners of Harlan County, Kentucky. I believe in what we can be. Ride on.” And then, despite railing against Trump, and other conservatives, Crockett would add in the comment section that he doesn’t believe the current issues in the country don’t boil down to a left or right issue, noting that he believes something else entirely is happening here. “I truly believe this isn’t a left or right issue. There’s something else happening here.” In his previous Instagram post, featuring rapper Killer Mike, he once again referenced the boxing icon saying: “They call me the Muhammad Ali of country music” Say what you want about Charley Crockett, his origin story, his anti-Trump rant, the Super Bowl, Bad Bunny, politics, America, whatever… I’m pretty sure nobody has ever called him “the Muhammad Ali of country music” except himself… View this post on Instagram The post “They Love A Cosplay President”: Charley Crockett Goes Scorched Earth On Trump, Shades Jelly Roll, Elon Musk & More In Lengthy Super Bowl Instagram Rant first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
