House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has made it clear over the course of several interviews that he does not want to talk about New York City’s Democratic mayoral frontrunner, Zohran Mamdani. Shortly after Mamdani — a self-described Democratic Socialist — bested disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) to win the Democratic primary, ABC’s Jonathan Karl asked Jeffries whether he was prepared to endorse his fellow New Yorker. Jeffries, at the time, said that he did not know Mamdani well enough yet to throw his weight behind the campaign — and he mentioned one sticking point in particular that he believed would have to be addressed before he could do so: Mamdani’s position on Israel. “Globalizing the Intifada, by way of example, is not an acceptable phrasing,” Jeffries said. “He’s going to have to clarify his position on that as he moves forward. Jeffries tiptoed around the question, saying that he believed there should be “oversight” when ICE agents were using more aggressive tactics, but he did not directly answer the question. Instead of addressing whether or not Mamdani’s win was good for the party, Jeffries explained how he had “outworked” and “out-communicated” his opposition. He then pivoted to claim President Donald Trump — whose second term has seen falling gas prices and egg prices as well as rising jobs numbers and lowering inflation rates — had done nothing to address the high cost of living that most Americans were facing. Melber immediately called him out, saying, “Respectfully, I see the pivot. You know, you’re good at this. Jeffries waved away the question, and attempted — as he usually does — to turn the topic to Trump. “I have no idea what these people are talking about!” Jeffries said, clarifying that his sole focus was on pushing back against President Trump’s agenda. “We are going to continue to focus our efforts as we did on the House floor in connection with Donald Trump’s one big, ugly bill on pushing back against the extremism that has been unleashed on the American people.” Here we go again — Hakeem Jeffries flips out when asked about Mamdani’s supporters trying to mount a primary challenge against him — Then rants about Trump: “I have no idea what these people are talking about! Three men were being paid by the Russian state to carry out arson and kidnappings to undermine European support for Ukraine and punish opponents of the regime. The men were found guilty on Tuesday of torching a London warehouse containing Starlink satellite technology bound for Ukraine, and acting out the directives of the Wagner Group, “a private military organisation that acts on behalf of the Russian state,” according to the BBC. Jakeem Rose, 23, Ugnius Asmena, 20, and Nii Mensah, 23, were convicted of aggravated arson with intent to endanger life. The getaway driver, 61-year-old Paul English, was acquitted due to lack of knowledge. Another man was convicted for knowing about terrorist acts but failing to disclose the information, and yet another was acquitted on the same charge. The whole operation was caught on CCTV. The perpetrators also livestreamed the arson along to the song “Spit of Gym” by Lowlemon, in typical Gen Z fashion. The arson caused more than $1.36 million worth of damage. The two ringleaders, Dylan Earl, 21, and Jake Reeves, 23, had already pleaded guilty to aggravated arson and violating the National Security Act. Both men have a history of dealing drugs. Earl was the first person to be convicted under the United Kingdom’s National Security Act. After being arrested, he admitted to his role in a plot to kidnap Russian billionaire and expat Yevgeny Chichvarkin and burn his Michelin Star restaurant to the ground. Chichvarkin has been a vocal opponent of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The men seem to have been motivated primarily by money. Though their handler refused to pay them for the Starlink incident, claiming that they “rushed into burning these warehouses without my approval,” he promised $6,800 for other warehouses in East London. Earl had also expressed allegiance to the Russian cause, prompting his handler to call him “our dagger in Europe.” “We will be sharpening you carefully,” they added. Earl exchanged hundreds of messages with his Wagner contact, named “Privet Bot,” over Telegram. The contact encouraged him to recruit “soccer hooligans, Irish republican militants and high-profile criminal groups,” Reuters reported. The Wagner Group began as a state-funded “private military company” but “has been under the control of Russian state agencies and intelligence services since a failed 2023 coup,” according to British authorities speaking to The New York Times. The Russian Embassy in London stated after the attack that “Russia has never engaged in sabotage activities against the United Kingdom and has no intention of doing so.” They dismissed the claims of ties to the Wagner Group as a “malevolent campaign of anti-Russian scaremongering.” The British government has cracked down on Russian foreign intelligence since the poisoning and attempted assassination of Sergei Skripal, a Russian double agent working for the United Kingdom, and his daughter in 2018. “We’ve made the UK a hostile operating environment for those governments but, as a result, they’ve diversified and are now contacting relatively young people to act on their behalf as proxies in doing their activity,” Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the London police’s Counter Terrorism Command, stated. Just last month in the United Kingdom, six Bulgarians were convicted of spying for Russia. The Associated Press has noted an increase in Russian attacks across European countries since the start of the Ukraine war. Murphy said it was “only by good fortune nobody was seriously injured or worse.” The Crown Prosecution Service said that the convictions will “send a very clear message that this type of offending will not be tolerated on UK soil.”

WASHINGTON—In a major move against the transgender medical industry, the Federal Trade Commission hosted a workshop Wednesday in Washington, D.C., examining the dangers of so-called gender-affirming care. The FTC’s workshop, first reported by The Daily Wire in late May, has sparked the ire of leftist activists and Democrats, who argue that the focus is inappropriate. Yet the academics, commentators, detransitioners, parents, and doctors present at the workshop argued that the transgender medical industry is pushing ideology upon American children who are not able to fully consent to these life-altering procedures. “The issue of gender medicine has shattered political boundaries,” said Texas Children’s whistleblower Vanessa Sivadge. “Not because of ideology, but because of conscience. This is not a partisan battle, but a battle of good and evil.” At the beginning of the panel, FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson addressed the objection that transgender issues are outside his agency’s purview. In fact, Ferguson said, the FTC targets industries and entities that lie or deceive the public, emphasizing that the FTC has a sworn duty to protect American citizens from false and misleading claims. He then immediately launched into the stories of detransitioners, young people who shared that they attempted gender transitions because they were told they were born in the wrong body — and that undergoing these surgeries and hormonal procedures would save them from suicide. Simon Amaya Price and his father, Gareth Amaya Price, shared how Simon was bullied as a child and attempted a social transition as a teenager, spurred on by the medical professionals who allegedly asked, “Would you rather have a dead son, or a living daughter?” Leigh Vogel/Getty Images for Ian Madrigal Detransitioner Claire Abernathy emotionally shared how medical professionals encouraged her to undergo transgender surgeries when she was too young to get a tattoo, too young to drive, and hadn’t even learned algebra. “It’s not healthcare,” she argued, “it’s blatant consumer fraud.” Elvira Syed, the mother of a girl who took her own life as she attempted a gender transition, broke down sobbing as she shared her child’s story, saying through her tears: “They treated her ideology, not her illness.” “I lost my 18-year-old daughter to gender ideology,” she sobbed. Ferguson, who moderated the panel, was clearly affected as he promised the destransitioners and survivors: “the FTC hears you, we hear all of you, and we want to understand how the law is being broken.” During the workshop, the Justice Department’s Chad Mizelle announced that the agency has issued nearly 20 subpoenas against clinics that are engaged in transgender transition attempts, noting that the Justice Department’s investigations include healthcare fraud, false statements, and more. Mizelle urged Americans to come forward if they could provide information about deceptive practices in the transgender medicine industry. Immediately following his announcement, Mizelle introduced another panel of detransitioners and parents, including Prisha Mosley, Soren Aldaco, Beth Bourne, Forrest Smith, Helen Spiegel Lee, and Gwen Turecki, individuals who emotionally shared their experiences as they navigated gender transition attempts or helped — or lost — a family member who attempted to transition. Blessed to be alongside these incredible souls. pic.twitter.com/Enrzt11ZcN — Chloe Cole ⭐️ (@ChoooCole) July 9, 2025 Ferguson shared with The Daily Wire that this emphasis on personal stories was very purposeful. “This is about the people we heard from and the suffering that they have had to endure,” he said in a brief interview. “As we learn more, it will be our normal enforcement process to figure out what’s going on, who’s been doing it, and take appropriate action.”  As for the Justice Department’s news, Ferguson said he was “thrilled,” but not surprised. “They have been moving at the speed of light, implementing the president’s agenda,” he commented, “and they have a ton of talented lawyers.”  “I’m thrilled because, hearing from DOJ or the FTC if you’re a business can be a very intimidating thing, and if you’re breaking the law, a lot of times just hearing from the government that like … can curb illegal behavior on its own,” he noted. “So I think it’s great that DOJ is taking this seriously.”  The FTC will issue a request for information from the public in the coming days, Ferguson said. As The Daily Wire previously reported, an FTC workshop is typically an indicator of the agency’s intentions, given that the commission often holds such events before initiating legal action against an industry to gather information, collect evidence, and solicit input from affected Americans. The chairman noted to The Daily Signal that he believes the best way to hold the transgender medical industry accountable for deceiving patients is to bring enforcement actions against violators, saying: “If people are making material misstatements, sue them … but I think it’s taking people to court if the law is being broken, rather than undertaking a two year long rule making process followed by lengthy litigation.” He also brushed off backlash from the Left and Democrats with concerns about the FTC’s focus on the transgender medicine industry. “I don’t really care what Democrats think about this,” he said. “They don’t like the stuff that we do, that’s the nature of the party system. And so I sort of just price in almost everything we do is going to generate backlash from the other party. That is what it is. My job is to do the right thing and the right thing is protecting kids. I’ve been saying that since the day that I took this job in January.”  Trump has made protecting children a priority, Ferguson pointed out. “If there is this material deception going on in this market, it is picking on the most vulnerable human beings in America at the worst possible moment of their lives and brutalizing them,” he stressed. “And frankly, the ability of people to turn away from this and say ‘no action should be taken’ boggles my mind. So at the end of the day, it is the right thing to do.” “It is the policy of the administration set by President Trump and naysayers on the left, naysay everything, and that’s just priced in.” 

Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville warned that if men were feeling let down by the Democratic Party, it was because Democrats had effectively “erased them” from society. Carville made the comments during a recent podcast appearance with host Dan Koh on “The People’s Cabinet” — and he argued that while it had been wise for former Vice President Kamala Harris to choose a male running mate, but that simply asking Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) to go from state to state “screaming” about how masculine he was had been ineffective at best. Carville, known to many in political circles as “The Ragin’ Cajun” due to his excitable nature and thick Louisiana accent, explained that Democrats had done men a disservice by adopting buzzwords and phrases like “the future is female” or “the woman is never wrong.” “Men are like, ‘S***, do I count?'” Carville continued. “‘What about my life? I mean, we’re only 48% of the voting population.'” “Let’s say you work in an Atlanta tire shop, nine, 10 hours a day. You’re changing tires,” Carville explained. “You’re working your ass off. It’s hot. You go home. You want a cold beer, you want a hamburger, and you want to watch the football game. No. No. You can’t do that. Not football. No. No hamburgers. How many calories does that have? Do you know what that does? Beer? No. You should be drinking a nice fruit spritzer or something.’ They’re like, ‘Oh, get off of my back,’ right? And then, ‘If you have sex, you must wear a condom.’ We just never communicated with them.” Carville concluded by saying that at the end of the day, the party would have to meet men where they were instead of constantly subjecting them to lectures. “I understand we’ve had tectonic societal shifts, demographic shifts in this country, but there are no television shows about these people anymore. They’ve been erased from the culture,” he said of men in general. “We’ve just erased them. ‘You don’t exist. No one sees you. No one cares about you. You’ve had it made all your life.’ And a lot of these people say, ‘I got it made? What are you talking about?’ And we just lecture people too much. As opposed to saying, ‘Man, you work hard.'”

Hamas has agreed to release 10 hostages as part of ongoing ceasefire talks, the terror group said in a statement on Wednesday. The statement did not say when the release would take place or which hostages may be freed as negotiations over a possible ceasefire continue. The terror group said that it continues to act “seriously and in a positive spirit with the mediators in order to overcome the obstacles,” according to The Times of Israel. The statement from Hamas identified several points of disagreement between the terror group and Israeli negotiators, including the flow of aid into the Gaza Strip, a withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and “genuine guarantees for a permanent ceasefire,” according to Reuters. The list of unresolved issues has apparently grown since U.S. foreign envoy Steve Witkoff said earlier this week that the number of sticking points between the two sides had shrunk to just one. “We’re in proximity talks now, and we had four issues, and now we’re down to one after two days of proximity talks. So, we are hopeful that by the end of this week, we will have an agreement that will bring us into a 60-day ceasefire,” Witkoff said Tuesday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Washington this week in part to discuss the situation in Gaza with President Donald Trump. Trump hinted Wednesday that ceasefire negotiations are “close.” “We want to have a ceasefire,” said the president. “We want to have peace. We want to get the hostages back. And I think we’re close to doing it.” Netanyahu told reporters that while both he and Trump want a ceasefire, there are some non-negotiable items that must be a part of any deal. “President Trump wants a deal, but not at any price. I want a deal, but not at any price,” said the prime minister. “Israel has security requirements and other requirements, and we’re working together to try to achieve it.” Israel has repeatedly said that no ceasefire deal can be agreed to that leaves Hamas in place in the Gaza Strip. That war aim has remained unchanged since Israeli forces invaded Gaza following the terror group’s October 7 terror attack that killed roughly 1,200 people. Hamas militants and Gazans who joined the attack abducted about 250 others as hostages.

In a TikTok video posted on Tuesday, an argument erupted among airplane passengers when a woman attempted to skip ahead in the exit line. The woman, who is a lawyer, first said “shut your mouth” to a passenger after he complained that she hadn’t waited her turn.  “You’re all whining for no reason. Just get up when you want to — just deal with it, people, my God,” she drawled, rolling her eyes as other passengers jumped in to condemn her.  “You’re just a Karen and that’s just the way it is,” said one man before beginning to chant: “Karen! Karen!”  “You guys are so funny!” the woman mocked. “You’re the Karens about it because you’re the ones — you’re the ones who are making noise.” Eventually, a baby began crying in the background as the argument grew more heated. “Why don’t you all shut up? It’s not affecting any of you!” the woman retorted over disgruntled voices.  She soon noticed the camera recording her, then sarcastically asked the person behind it if he had her permission to record, falling into a common stereotype of so-called “Karen” behavior.  “It’s public,” one man answered calmly. “Shut the f**k up!” the woman exclaimed.  After the passengers protested her use of the “f-bomb,” she pointed to a man behind her and said, “given your accent I can tell you’ve said the f-bomb.”  A woman in a pink jacket then stepped in. “We’re not doing that,” she declared. “You can be a jerk … you’re not going to insult someone because of an accent.” A boy beside her grinned as though he were witnessing something exotic and accused the attorney of being a “racist.” “Do you even know what the word racist means?” she asked. “You’re white. Maybe it’s xenophobic if you’re talking about accents.”  The baby in the background continued to cry, and the video ended when the woman told another passenger she would meet him with her bar card after they got off the plane. The now-viral TikTok had racked up nearly 15,000 likes by Wednesday. 

A new poll shows Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani holding a commanding 10-point lead in New York City’s mayoral race this week, with incumbent Mayor Eric Adams trailing in fourth place. The Slingshot Strategies poll, conducted between July 2-6, showed socialist Mamdani capturing 35% of registered voters, with former Governor Andrew Cuomo at 25%, Republican Curtis Sliwa at 14%, and incumbent Mayor Eric Adams trailing with just 11%. Adams faces an uphill battle with a dismal 28% approval rating and 62% disapproval. By contrast, Mamdani enjoys a net favorable rating of +4 (40% favorable vs. 36% unfavorable), while even the scandal-plagued Andrew Cuomo outperforms Adams, with 44% viewing him favorably and 46% unfavorably. Other polls have found similar results, including a pro-Adams poll that still showed Mamdani leading with 41%, followed by Cuomo at 26%, Adams at 16%, and Sliwa at 10%. Adams’ support has collapsed even among his traditional base, with only 16% of black respondents saying they would back the mayor in the general election, compared to 35% for Mamdani and 32% for Cuomo, according to the poll. The current contest represents a significant fracturing of Democratic power, with incumbent Mayor Adams – who campaigned as a moderate, pro-police Democrat – now being challenged from both the far-Left in Mamdani and the establishment wing in Cuomo. While Mamdani’s 35% support is far from a majority, Slingshot founding partner Evan Roth Smith emphasized to the New York Post that the electoral math looks increasingly difficult for Adams. “The problem is the ballot is set. And the strongest Mamdani alternative in this poll is Andrew Cuomo, who just lost to him decisively in the Democratic primary,” Smith noted. “And the Mamdani alternative that seems to have the most momentum as a fresh alternative is Eric Adams, who’s polling barely in the double digits and seems to have lost credibility everywhere in the election.” Adams has faced widespread dissatisfaction with his administration, which has faced multiple federal investigations and criticism over the handling of the migrant crisis and public safety issues. Despite being a Democrat, Adams performs best among Republican voters, receiving 26% support compared to Mamdani’s 7%, although Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa leads that demographic with 43%. “There’s simply not enough Republican support for someone who is a sitting Democratic mayor of New York,” Smith added. “So it’s really, really difficult when someone is polling at 11% and the ballot isn’t changing to see what the path to victory is.” Mamdani, a 33-year-old Assemblyman from Queens, has positioned himself as an unapologetic socialist. He has advocated for rent control, increasing taxes on the wealthy, and reallocating police funding to social services – policies that have raised concerns among moderate Democrats and the business community. “You have a large number of largely white, largely outer borough homeowners who are not necessarily Democrats, who are skeptical of Mamdani,” Smith explained. “The problem is getting those voters together behind either Andrew Cuomo or Eric Adams seems to still be a pretty tall order, and becomes even more difficult since they’re both in the race.” Cuomo and Adams have engaged in public feuding, with each calling for the other to drop out to consolidate opposition against Mamdani, who won the Democratic primary with 56% to Cuomo’s 44% in the final round of ranked-choice voting. Adams’ campaign spokesperson Todd Shapiro dismissed the poll in a statement to the New York Post, saying, “just weeks ago, Andrew Cuomo was ahead in multiple polls and then went on to lose the primary by double digits.” “The latest Slingshot poll is just another example of how out-of-touch and unreliable political polling has become,” he said.
