Can The Supreme Court Intervene After Trump’s Conviction? Legal Experts Say Yes.

The guilty verdict against former President Donald Trump reached by a Manhattan jury on Thursday could ultimately be reviewed by the U.S. Supreme Court, legal experts said. Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in an unprecedented verdict against the presumptive Republican presidential nominee just months before the 2024 election. The verdict is likely to be appealed by Trump’s legal team, however, and experts say the final decision in Trump’s hush-money trial could come down to a ruling from the highest court in the land. Attorney Roger Severino, who is the vice president of Domestic Policy and the Joseph C. and Elizabeth A. Anderlik fellow at the Heritage Foundation, told “Morning Wire” on Friday that Trump’s legal team could make “constitutional arguments that his right to a fair trial was violated.” “And the Constitution means something,” Severino added. “It means, if anything, you cannot jail political opponents because you don’t like what the American people are going to vote for.” Severino said that he believes the Supreme Court will intervene in the case if Trump doesn’t win on appeal. “Ultimately, I think the Supreme Court, if he doesn’t win on appeal, will take this up and reverse,” the attorney said. “This is a political prosecution. We are better than this as a country and this cannot stand.” The Heritage Foundation fellow added that whether Trump ends up behind bars is still unknown, saying “it would be shameful if this judge were to order this man to go to jail when they weren’t able to point to any victims.” “This is so shocking and unprecedented that we’re even discussing the possibility of putting political opponents in jail in the middle of an election,” he said. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump’s sentencing for July 11, just four days before the start of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee where Trump is set to be nominated for president. The former president could face up to four years in prison. Lawyer and political commentator Mark Levin also wrote about the possibility of the Supreme Court ruling on Trump’s guilty verdict, saying he was surprised that “TV lawyers and others” talking about Trump’s conviction “ignore a federal path to the Supreme Court.” “The issue is how to get out of the New York system and bring the case to the Supreme Court, which may or may not take it up,” Levin wrote on Thursday night. “That is why I look to Bush v Gore, where the S Ct decided to step in BECAUSE it was a presidential election.” “There was another court involved, the Florida Supreme Court. And it was that court that the Supreme Court believed was violating the Equal Protection Clause. That was the doctrine it settled on, given the unequal treatment of voters,” he added. Levin then laid out how the case that was prosecuted by Manhattan Democratic District Attorney Alvin Bragg and decided by 12 Manhattan jurors could go before the Supreme Court. “In New York, you would file the notice of appeal, ask for a stay of the trial court, and seek expedited review,” he wrote. “You need to protect your ability to timely appeal and not abandon it. You might then file applications for common law writs with the US Supreme Court, where the S Ct can take action if it chooses, and legitimately claim the harm is immediate and ongoing not just to a presidential candidate, but to the federal electoral system, federal campaign jurisdiction (reverse federalism), and the precedent that might otherwise be set and spread throughout the country. The denial of due process infected every aspect of the case.” Thinking further out loud The issue is how to get out of the New York system and bring the case to the Supreme Court, which may or may not take it up. That is why I look to Bush v Gore, where the S Ct decided to step in BECAUSE it was a presidential election. There was another… — Mark R. Levin (@marklevinshow) May 31, 2024

Valiant Warrior Dons Amor To Defend Him Against Assault… From Two Tiny Angry Owls

Screech owls are tiny in comparison to other owls. Adults can grow to be 7.5 to 10 inches tall and weigh around six ounces. Eastern and Western screech owls have similar habitats, and we’re unsure where this rural farm is. One thing we are certain about is that they could not have selected more appropriate background music. @rural_life_livin The local raptor center said to try and return it to its nest. After I was hit in the face by one my husband decided to suit up #screechowl #firefighterhusband #countryliving #neveradullmoment #safetyfirst #fypage ♬ Danger Zone (From “Top Gun” Original Soundtrack) – Kenny Loggins When this couple noticed a tiny baby screech owl had fallen out of the nest, they contacted a wildlife rescue. Because the nest’s location was known, the rescuers recommended trying to place the baby back into the nest. The wife was unsuccessful. The parent owls conducted dive-bombing flyovers to scare her away from their nest. One of them crashed into the wife’s face. That’s when hubby knew that additional safety measures were necessary. He donned a thick jacket, heavy gloves, and a fireman’s helmet. Appropriately attired, he leaned the ladder against the tree. As the parent owls continued flying offensive maneuvers, he ducked beneath the ladder to avoid direct hits. Image from TikTok. Diligence paid off. The husband was able to pick up and cradle the baby screech owl. He carefully timed his climb to avoid strafing runs from the parent owls. Placing the baby in the nest, he quickly descended the ladder. Once on the ground, he moved the ladder and stepped off to a safe distance. While small, screech owls are still members of the raptor family. These tiny little terrors will attack prey larger than themselves and they have no trouble taking on their human targets. They can be relentless in protecting their nest. Even though the humans had no intention of harming the little owls, the parents still considered them a threat. We’re glad they were successful. Mastercard’s Controversial Digital ID Rollout in Africa

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. One wouldn’t have pegged Mastercard for that corporation that is “driving sustainable social impact” and caring about remote communities around the world struggling to meet basic needs. Nevertheless, here we are – or at least that’s how the global payment services behemoth advertises its push to proliferate the use of a scheme called Community Pass. Related: How Mastercard’s Digital ID Project Is Being Used by Governments To Track Health and Vaccination The purpose of Community Pass is to enable a  digital ID and wallet that’s contained in a “smart card.” Launched four years ago, the program – which Mastercard says, in addition to being based on digital ID, is interoperable, and works offline – targets “underserved communities” and currently has 3.5 million users, with plans of growing that number to 30 million by 2027. According to a map on Mastercard’s site, this program is now being either piloted or has been rolled out in India, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Mauritania, while the latest announcement is the partnership with the African Development Bank Group in an initiative dubbed, Mobilizing Access to the Digital Economy (MADE). The plan is to, over ten years, make sure 100 million people and businesses in Africa are included in digital ID programs and thus allowed access to government and “humanitarian” services. As for Community Pass itself, it aims to incorporate 15 million users on the continent over the next five years. This is Mastercard’s part of the deal, whereas the African Development Bank Group said it would invest $300 million to make sure MADE happens. Related: Digital ID, Bill Gates vaccine record, and payments system combo to be trialed in Africa Given how controversial digital ID schemes are, and how much pushback they encounter in developed countries, it’s hard to shake off the impression that such initiatives are pushed so aggressively in economically disadvantaged areas and communities precisely because little opposition is expected. But MADE is presented as almost a “humanitarian” service itself – there, apparently, solely to make life better, in particular for farmers and women, and improve things like connectivity, financial services, employment rates, etc. The news about Mastercard’s latest partnership and initiative came from a US-Africa business forum organized by the US Chamber of Commerce.
