California fights for federal tax dollars to cover $300M it spent on COVID-era housing program

California may be forced to cover at least $300 million spent on its COVID-era housing program after a "retroactive" rule change prompted the Federal Emergency Management Agency to place caps on reimbursements‚ the New York Post reported. In March 2020‚ California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom enacted Project Room Key‚ a program that placed homeless people into empty hotel rooms to cut back on the spread of COVID-19.FEMA officials guaranteed it would reimburse California cities and counties 75% of the program's cost. Later‚ it stated it would reimburse the entire cost through July 1‚ 2022‚ and then 90% after that. However‚ in October‚ the federal agency stated that it would not provide reimbursements for many hotel stays longer than 20 days between June 2021 and May 2023‚ according to the San Francisco Chronicle. San Francisco officials claimed they were blindsided by the October announcement and would have acted differently if the reimbursement cap had been shared previously. According to data reported by the San Francisco Chronicle‚ the city spent $84‚600 to house each homeless person. San Francisco wants federal taxpayers to cover the $190 million spent to house 5‚000 people.California Office of Emergency Services Director Nancy Ward sent FEMA a memo in January calling on the agency to reverse its decision. According to Ward‚ FEMA "inconsistently" applied its policy across the nation.San Francisco Supervisor Aaron Peskin stated‚ "It's not over until FEMA sings‚ and we're not done."In a letter to FEMA officials‚ San Francisco Controller Ben Rosenfield accused the agency of implementing an "impermissible retroactive law.""We intend to explore every option to appeal any claims denied by FEMA Region 9 that we believe to be eligible for reimbursement‚ based on the guidance in effect at the time‚" he said.According to city officials‚ FEMA's refusal to cover the expenses could pose a "significant potential risk" to its budget. Without reimbursements from FEMA‚ Sonoma County could be on the hook for $32 million and San Diego County for $28 million‚ Cal Matters reported.Daniel Lopez‚ a spokesperson for Newsom's office‚ told Cal Matters that the governor's office looks forward to FEMA "honoring its commitments."FEMA told the Post that all states were provided "the same guidance and policy updates throughout the pandemic." "FEMA is committed to working with each impacted jurisdiction on all requests for federal funding to maximize reimbursement for the appropriate life-saving measures they implemented to protect their citizens from COVID-19‚ while also ensuring the appropriate oversight of federal funds‚" it added. The agency is still reviewing funding requests submitted by states‚ cities‚ and other jurisdictions. Can science birth artificial wombs? Lab-grown babies raise major ethical concerns

Since the first man‚ the human race has expanded and developed in a simple way: A man and a woman have sex‚ and a man's sperm fertilizes the woman's egg. Within four days of fertilization‚ a tiny cluster of cells begins to develop – the embryo. That embryo‚ which has now expanded to around 100 cells filled with fluid‚ travels along the fallopian tube and‚ within a week of conception‚ resides in the uterus‚ anchoring into the mother's body‚ growing by drawing nutrition from blood vessels and glands. Within two months of conception‚ the embryo becomes a fetus and‚ after nine months‚ a baby. This is a miracle of human nature you likely learned in science class – and is solely down to the wonder of a mother's womb. Infertility rates are rising by 1% every year in men. "By 2045‚ if that trend continues‚ the majority of couples would need reproductive assistance‚" Cohen says. However‚ a minority of the scientific community have taken a different view. These scientists have a plan to remove the human from the post-conception process – to grow embryos independent of a womb and instead to nurture them artificially. The ability to independently develop a human being outside a mother's womb would have enormous ramifications for society and the human race. "What does it mean for society when we can produce children without any burden on women?" asks Maneesh Juneja‚ a digital health futurist. "It would have huge economic and societal effects." Its potential has been backed by the likes of Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder Elon Musk and Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin‚ who have both said that the development of artificial wombs could solve the world's imminent population crisis. The potential ramifications of this research are so significant that there are plenty of competing projects to try to bring artificial wombs out of the laboratory and into reality. Exo-Genesis‚ a community looking to promote the development of extra-uterine devices that can grow human babies in vitro‚ held its first in-person meetup in San Francisco in late February. Among the attendees was Divya Cohen‚ a medical doctor‚ MBA‚ and MPA with nearly two decades of experience in health tech startups. "I feel very strongly that we need to make this a reality‚" says Cohen. About 13% of women want to be mothers but don't want to go through pregnancy. Infertility rates are rising by 1% every year in men. "By 2045‚ if that trend continues‚ the majority of couples would need reproductive assistance‚" Cohen says. "This isn't the only technology that would be useful‚ but it's certainly a tool." Technological wombs gremlin/getty It's a technology that is reportedly being developed in university laboratories around the globe. China's Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology claimed to have developed an AI-based technology that can nanny human embryos in artificial wombs by monitoring levels of nutrition and carbon dioxide in artificial environments that help grow embryos to term – a key issue in previous experiments that have tried to develop embryos outside a natural womb. The goal of the AI is to mimic the inexplicable alterations and changes that a mother's body subconsciously undergoes to nurture an embryo throughout pregnancy – and that is easier said than done. While AI gained plenty of attention and many news stories‚ the reality is more prosaic: The technology hasn't been tested in humans. Despite the splashy headlines‚ it isn't guaranteed to be all that effective. One project at the forefront of artificial womb development – one of three papers discussed at the Exo-Genesis meeting in San Francisco – was based in the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot‚ Israel. Alejandro Aguilera Castrejon is the lead author of the project to gestate a mouse embryo. "The goal is to inject human cells into embryos to create chimeric models‚" says Aguilera Castrejon. So-called chimeric models‚ where human cells are injected into the embryos of other species and then tracked to model as closely as possible what would happen to the human cells in the embryonic stage‚ are used because it's impossible to conduct laboratory tests on human embryos. Prior experiments had allowed similar chimeric-modeled embryos for two days – but Aguilera Castrejon's carefully monitored conditions permitted the embryo to grow for six days after it was implanted into a mouse‚ five days after fertilization. He and his colleagues are now working on starting the same process to grow embryos from day zero of fertilization rather than day five. The hope is that similar methods can be applied to humans. But there are some issues. The mouse embryos Aguilera Castrejon works with die after day eleven of the fertilization process because they become too big‚ preventing the oxygen and nutrients that would help them grow further from entering the embryo. "They basically die‚" he says. That problem with mouse embryos is likely to be compounded with humans. Another challenge Aguilera Castrejon and his colleagues faced was keeping the embryo free of infection and contamination – an issue exacerbated should a similar experiment take place with human embryos because they take longer to develop. A mouse pregnancy lasts twenty days; humans‚ nine months. "The longer you have the embryo in culture‚ there are more things that can go wrong‚" he says. The 29-year-old researcher‚ who has been working on his project for five years‚ believes that artificial human wombs are a while off. "In mice‚ I would say maybe it'll be a reality in ten years‚" he says. In humans? "I don't think I'll live to see humans‚" he says. Aguilera Castrejon believes it'll take "at least fifty years" for science to bring a human embryo to full term and that it's not just the technological and biological challenges of doing so that are preventing development. In Israel‚ even if Aguilera Castrejon and his colleagues at the Weizmann Institute had the technical knowledge to grow a human embryo for the first month of its formation‚ they couldn't. "Maybe at some point society will advance to allow us to be born outside the uterus‚" he says. "I think technically this will be possible‚ but the main limit is the ethical aspect." Regulations are being removed In May 2021‚ the stem cell research community's public voice‚ the International Society for Stem Cell Research‚ dropped a rule that had previously prevented human embryos from being cultured for more than fourteen days. Some concerns remain about mixing human stem cells and non-human embryos in chimeric models – most recently over a 2021 U.S.-China project that combined humans with macaque monkeys – but there is a growing acknowledgment that such experiments are necessary steps for the future of fertility. While Aguilera Castrejon is pessimistic that babies grown outside their mothers' wombs will be born in his lifetime‚ he does see a shift in attitudes‚ even in his five years in the field. For Cohen‚ the conversation must move beyond the field into the wider world. When she brings up the topic with her friends in science‚ they too often don't know about the risk of a potential population crisis. "We want [the rate of population replacement] to be 2.1‚ but in the U.S. it's 1.6‚ and in Japan it's 1.3‚" she says. "That means that we are very quickly turning into an upside-down pyramid society. If that continues‚ we're going to be in serious trouble by then. I think we could see a future similar to 'The Handmaid's Tale.' I used to read that book and thought it would never happen – but now the science suggests it could happen." As for Aguilera Castrejon's skepticism about whether it's possible in his lifetime‚ Cohen says that we need less talking and more action. "I'm worried we're seeing a trend where that's going to hit us in 2045‚ and there are two alternatives‚" she says. "One is we get into this scary dystopian future‚ or we start working on the science and building what would help us outmaneuver that."

Ron DeSantis looks at blue states and does the opposite

One of the hallmarks of our time is the rise of “anarcho-tyranny”: centralized government control of our lives alongside rampant anarchy and lawlessness in the streets. Retail theft‚ porch piracy‚ street takeovers‚ and flash mobs are becoming commonplace. So even as our government cracks down on political opponents who protest election results or pray in front of abortion clinics‚ theft and street crimes have essentially been legalized in large swaths of urban America. Florida is having none of that. It turns out that criminals respond to incentives and distinctives. Governor Ron DeSantis is on a mission not only to make Florida a free state but also to ensure that Floridians enjoy ordered liberty without the anarchy. That’s something of a departure from the current trend. DeSantis signed anti-rioting legislation in 2021 and recently a bill to outlaw “public camping” on city streets‚ sidewalks‚ and in parks to stem the tide of vagrancy. On Tuesday‚ he announced new legislation to ensure the trend of flash theft mobs and porch piracy are kept out of Florida as well. “Part of it is to make sure that the penalties are severe enough to deter people from doing this in the future‚” the governor told reporters at an event in Cape Coral. “Right now‚ we have a situation in Florida where you only get a felony if you do five different retail thefts within a five-day period. … If you [steal] and get caught‚ you go back to the well again. They should drop the hammer on you!” Cracking down on theft HB 549 by Rep. Bob Rommel (R) would make repeat retail theft a third-degree felony and a first-degree felony for anyone who commits the crime with a firearm or who already had two prior retail theft convictions. To dissuade flash mobs‚ the bill would make it a second-degree felony to recruit others into the crime through social media. It would also make it a third-degree felony even for a first offender if his action included five or more people stealing together. Any retail theft committed against a senior‚ of which there are obviously many in Florida‚ would result in a charge of first-degree aggravated retail theft. Finally‚ the bill would require any retail criminal to pay restitution for any merchandise stolen or property damaged. To deter the growing trend of porch piracy‚ Rommel’s bill would make it a third-degree felony to steal property valued at more than $40 and a second-degree felony to steal property valued at more than $100 or for anyone who steals property from more than 20 dwellings. Senator Jay Trumbull is sponsoring a companion bill in the state Senate. Florida is the nation’s third-largest state with several urban areas‚ so naturally DeSantis has been vigilant to guard against the social deterioration plaguing other cities. “One of the things that I’ve noticed is that ... you go into‚ like‚ a pharmacy and the toothpaste is behind lock and key‚” DeSantis said. “It’s almost like Fort Knox‚ some of these places‚ just for normal items.” He called out cities like Los Angeles‚ San Francisco‚ and New York that have “effectively enacted policies that legalize shoplifting.” California set the trend According to a 2020 survey of 61 retailers by the National Retail Federation‚ organized retail theft skyrocketed by nearly 60% since 2015 and cost stores an average of $719‚548 per $1 billion dollars in sales. What changed around that time? California voters in 2014 passed Proposition 47‚ which turned many felonies — including property crimes — into misdemeanors. The state also changed sentencing rules and increased early releases. As a result‚ violent crime in the Golden State rose 13%‚ and burglary‚ larceny‚ and auto theft skyrocketed in 2015 and 2016. This is why we are seeing “smash and grab” flash mobs in California more than anywhere else. As California goes‚ so goes the nation. Unfortunately‚ laws loosening penalties on theft are not limited to the left but have been part and parcel of the Koch-backed “criminal justice reform” agenda.Oklahoma politicians in 2016 went the way of California and passed State Question 780‚ which downgraded drug and theft crimes across the board. In 2018‚ Sooner State lawmakers made those changes retroactive‚ which led to the single-largest prison release in a single day‚ when 462 felons walked out the door on November 4‚ 2019. Before long‚ Oklahoma began experiencing some of California’s most notorious trends. The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office in 2019 announced a new task force to combat the growing burglary trend and placed the blame squarely on the new laws. “Since the threshold of certain crimes changed some felonies to misdemeanors back in 2017‚ we have seen a steady increase of thefts in Oklahoma County‚” wrote the sheriff’s office in a Facebook post. Little has changed. Criminals now know to steal less than $1‚000 in merchandise each time and then sell the items on the black market before going back for more. It turns out that criminals respond to incentives and distinctives. The cost of 'reform' Liberals like to suggest property crimes are not as serious as crimes of violence‚ but they are devastating to quality of life. Retailers lost $112 billion in theft in 2022‚ which is passed down to an already tapped-out consumer. Also‚ 44 million Americans have had a package stolen in the last three months‚ according to Security.org‚ with the average value of the stolen items hovering around $50. That’s tough for so many people treading water with inflation. Without an effort to get tougher rather than weaker on theft‚ stores are going to continue to close because workers are too scared to come to work and consumers are too afraid to shop. Then‚ of course‚ as more people avoid stores and opt for online purchases‚ they’re confronted with porch piracy. It’s a direct result of a decade’s worth of “criminal justice reform.” Thankfully‚ Florida’s governor and attorney general are having none of it. The quality of life of our parents may be becoming a luxury good in this country‚ but we can at least laud the effort to shore up law and order in the Sunshine State.

Illegal immigration puts America’s kids last

Illegal immigration puts America’s kids last

Many Americans living away from the southern border seem blissfully unaware of the danger that the illegal immigration crisis poses. Sure‚ they might think it is a national security issue generally. Perhaps they even see the writing on the wall for the economy and the integrity of our elections. But few realize the very real impact it could have on their own families. As much as anything‚ the immigration crisis threatens the daily health and safety of our children. I am troubled by the glaring hypocrisy in our nation’s childhood vaccination policies. It is a perplexing reality that American children must receive vaccinations to attend school or participate in various community organizations and sports. In fact‚ some states have a strict “no shots‚ no school” policy that even precludes religious exemptions and prevents school enrollment until vaccine requirements are met. It’s clear the Biden administration is unconcerned with the safety of American citizens and our children‚ instead prioritizing illegal immigrants. Yet illegal immigrant children and “unaccompanied minors” crossing our southern border are not held to the same health requirements. For example‚ in New York City‚ “migrants living in temporary shelters don’t need vaccinations to initially enroll in public school.” The city insists they simply have a “certain timeframe” in which to obtain their vaccines after enrolling‚ but I suspect that requirement will be enforced about as effectively as our immigration laws currently are — not at all. With thousands of illegal immigrant children flooding our communities and overwhelming our social infrastructure‚ who exactly will check to see if they all get their vaccines on time? And if they don’t‚ what consequences will they face? This glaring double standard not only undermines the integrity of our public health system but also poses significant risks to the safety and well-being of American children. The alarming reality is that “emergency rooms and hospitals across the United States are facing overwhelming demands from migrants seeking treatment for diseases that the U.S. had previously eradicated‚ including polio‚ whooping cough‚ tetanus‚ and measles/mumps/rubella.” These are illnesses that have long been only a third-world concern‚ but they now threaten the health and safety of America’s youth. The influx of "unaccompanied minors" crossing the border illegally also raises alarm bells. It is naïve to assume that all these young individuals are innocent children seeking refuge. Many are members of dangerous gangs who exploit the perceived vulnerability of their youth to gain access to our country more easily. These young men — they’re almost all young men — bring with them not only the threat of criminal activity but also the potential for spreading violence and instability in our communities. Considering the law-and-order crisis America already faces‚ especially in cities where illegal immigrants are converging‚ it’s frightening to consider how this will impact the safety of our communities. We’ve already seen a disturbing trend of illegal immigrants being released back into our communities after they’re arrested for violent crimes. Will they face any consequences whatsoever? As parents‚ it is our solemn duty to prioritize the safety and well-being of our children in the face of the devastating border crisis. It’s clear the Biden administration is unconcerned with the safety of American citizens and our children‚ instead prioritizing the illegal immigrants officials are actively fighting to allow into our nation. We must be unapologetically selfish in protecting our families and standing up for our health and safety against the backdrop of a massive illegal immigration crisis. We must demand accountability from our supposed “representatives” and replace them with leaders who will put the interests of American citizens first. We deserve it‚ and our lives and families might just depend on it.

Chiefs fans flee in terror after shooting erupts at Kansas City championship parade; 1 dead‚ at least 9 injured

The air of celebration for the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl championship turned to terror after gunshots rang out and at least nine people were injured and one was killed. Two armed suspects were reportedly detained by law enforcement. Videos on social media showed fans fleeing after they heard the gunshots around Union Station in Kansas City‚ Missouri‚ where a large stage was set up for speeches made by team players. Kansas City police officers said they were clearing people around the facility as first responders cared for the injured. Officials said that one of the injured had non-life-threatening injuries‚ five were in serious condition‚ and three were in critical condition. About one million people were expected to attend the parade‚ and 600 law enforcement officials were providing security. One woman at the parade said she was in an elevator when she heard the gunshots. She said the people on the elevator shut the doors and prayed. "There was yelling and we didn't know if it was safe to leave‚ so we tried to block the doors. We heard the elevator start to move so we opened the doors and ran out -- there were officers there‚" she told KMBC-TV. "I've never been so glad to see an officer in my life."Another woman described the rush of fans. "All of the sudden‚ people started crushing forward. Everybody started running. There was screaming‚" Dana Brady said. "We didn't know what was happening‚ but in this day and age when people run‚ you run."Some of the Kansas City Chiefs players posted their sentiments on social media. — (@) "We need people to exit the area as quickly and safely as possible and avoid the parking garage in order to facilitate treatment of shooting victims‚" read a statement from police. "Many of you have footage of many officers securing Union Station‚ they are working to provide for the safety of everyone inside Union Station and expedite care of those injured."This is a developing story that may be updated with additional information. This is what a murder investigation looks like in 2024

In today’s woke society‚ our corrupt system seems to be more concerned with political correctness than serving justice. Look no farther than the case against Genesse Moreno‚ who on February 11‚ fired an AR-15 into a crowd of people attending Lakewood Church in Houston‚ Texas. However‚ instead of focusing solely on the victims and investigating Moreno’s crime‚ “the Houston Police Department had to run an entire investigation just to figure out what pronouns the shooter used‚” sighs Dave Rubin before playing the clip of the commander of Houston PD’s homicide division‚ Chris Hassig‚ explaining the investigative efforts needed to prevent misgendering the offender. “She has utilized both male and female names‚ but through all of our investigation to this point – talking with individuals‚ interviews‚ documents – Houston Police Department reports she has identified this entire time as female (she / her)‚ and so we are identifying her as Genesse Moreno‚ Hispanic female‚” Hassig announced. “Oh‚ thank you‚” mocks Dave‚ calling the entire ordeal “psychotic.” To learn more‚ watch the clip below. Capitol Police turned cameras away from DNC pipe bomb probe. Blaze Media investigative journalist explains what they failed to hide

Two apparently "inoperable" pipe bombs were placed out in the open near the Democratic and Republican Party headquarters in Washington‚ D.C.‚ one day ahead of the Jan. 6 Capitol protests in 2021. The official narrative about the bomb plot has strained under scrutiny in the years since. For starters‚ Blaze News investigative journalist Steve Baker confirmed in January — despite persistent hounding by the Biden Department of Justice — that the so-called passerby who discovered the pipe bomb at the DNC happened to be a United States Capitol Police plainclothes officer. Extra to the officer's serendipitous discovery‚ which does not appear to have troubled then-Vice President-elect Kamala Harris' Secret Service detail at the time‚ the FBI has so far failed to get their man despite both possessing footage of the suspect who placed the so-called bombs and knowing his route. In Baker's continued deep dive into the mysteries surrounding the pipe bomb plot‚ the investigative journalist has found even more troubling indications that something was off about the investigation from the outset‚ the USCP-controlled cameras in particular. In his review of countless hours of closed-circuit TV video footage made available to him by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.)‚ Baker found that three USCP surveillance cameras customarily pointed at the DNC office building were strangely turned away from the scene just after the discovery of the alleged explosive device. The third camera appears to have similarly been moved off-target‚ although footage obtained by Blaze News indicates it nevertheless managed to capture an interesting portion of the so-called bomb's disposal. Although the CCTV cameras were swiftly diverted‚ Baker noted that there was apparently not a similar sense of urgency amongst responding law enforcement agencies in halting train service along the nearby tracks or chasing away the children ambling past the scene‚ all ostensibly at risk were the bomb both real and viable. The officer who first discovered the bomb — where just hours before‚ a bomb-sniffing dog reportedly smelt nothing of interest — seemed especially unfazed by his discovery. "I've mentioned before a lackadaisical response from everyone‚ but the actual plainclothes Capitol Police officer walks first over to the MPD police vehicle and he's not in any hurry‚" Baker told Blaze News. "If I'm a cop and I see a pipe with a timer on it‚ I'm running [to notify the relevant authorities]‚ you know what I mean?" Baker noted the officer's pace didn't soon hasten afterward. Rather‚ the officer can be seen sauntering over to the Secret Service vehicle associated with Kamala Harris‚ inside the DNC at the time‚ to alert them without any fanfare. According to Baker‚ Harris and the Secret Service managed to finish their lunches before taking action. "There's nothing logical about that situation‚" said Baker. The failure to promptly shut down the train‚ the delay in warning off pedestrians‚ and the generally "lackadaisical response" from the plainclothes USCP officer‚ the MPD and the Secret Service‚ were altogether enough to pique Baker's suspicions; however‚ the USCP's timely videography choices prompted even more questions about whether there may have been cause not to take the so-called bombs seriously at the time — perhaps because they were recognizable fakes or due to some other foreknowledge. After all‚ Baker told Blaze News that there would have been no good reason to divert the cameras "except that you're trying to protect a certain type of technology‚" but that explanation does not appear to hold up either as the bomb disposal equipment used was not secret or unique. Senior sources within the USCP indicated that camera diversions from such a critical probe would necessarily have been on the orders of "command-level" officials. On Jan. 6‚ that would have made for a short list: Chief Steven Sund; Sean Gallagher‚ then-acting chief of uniformed operations; and Yogananda Pittman‚ assistant chief of police for protective and intelligence operations. Baker shortened the list down further‚ leaving just Gallagher or Pittman as Sund previously indicated he wasn't notified about the DNC pipe bomb until after its discovery and minutes after the camera diversions were executed. The timeline of the Jan. 6 protests at the Capitol also suggests Sund was too busy at the time calling in reinforcements‚ "but Gallagher and Pittman were both monitoring what was going on ... and they were the only ones with actual command authority to tell somebody to move that away‚" said Baker. Camera number 3173‚ fixed on a view of the DNC parking garage since at least Dec. 28‚ 2020‚ reportedly began to pan and zoom in on the position of the device just minutes after the plainclothes USCP officer casually walked over a heads-up to a MPD police vehicle‚ then over to the Secret Service. However‚ just after 1:40 p.m.‚ the camera was remotely directed away from the scene and left in that position until at least midnight. Another camera‚ identified by the Epoch Times' Joe Hanneman‚ had an excellent bird's eye view from the rooftop of the nearby Fairchild Building of the scene prior to the device's supposed destruction by the bomb squad. That camera‚ too‚ was deliberately turned away from the scene just at 1:44 p.m. until the conclusion of the initial investigation and the bomb's destruction. Pressed to speculate‚ Baker told Blaze News‚ "I believe somebody knew that these devices were inert‚ that these were not viable devices‚ and they did not want cameras on that scene." Footage reviewed by Baker and obtained by Blaze News from a third camera further indicates an attempt to hide the investigation from public consumption. However‚ unlike the other two cameras‚ this one captured telling details about the so-called bomb's destruction. Baker noted that the camera was "curiously not focused on the scene‚" even though when "panned out‚ it had the ability to see everything. In fact‚ from this camera‚ we actually see the motorcade go around to the other side of the building and take Kamala Harris away." "At that camera position‚ we would be able to see the entire investigation. We'd be able to see the deployment of the robot. We'd be able to see the bomb crews. We'd be able to see the cleanup of the investigation afterwards‚" continued Baker. "But then suddenly‚ once again‚ this camera pulls into a very‚ very tight focus and you can't see the actual bomb." Nevertheless‚ the camera appears to accidentally capture footage of the bomb squad's effort to destroy the so-called bomb. "We see the robot suddenly come into frame at the far left of the screen and then we see the robot go over and pick up the bomb‚" said Baker. Baker suspects that whoever was manning the camera likely forgot about it or "got distracted by the melee that was going on at the Capitol at the time‚" because the Metropolitan Police Department bomb squad robot can then be seen "clumsily" ditching the bomb against a curb instead of a bomb blast containment bin. The so-called bomb can be seen breaking apart — apparently on account of a "bomb disposal water disruptor‚" which disarms explosive devices from a distance. The rapid disintegration of the bomb absent an explosion is not confirmation that the bomb was unviable‚ said Baker. After all‚ that is precisely the outcome the water cannon is designed to achieve. However‚ what the footage does appear to confirm is that the one good reason identified by former FBI Special Agent Kyle Seraphin to hide an investigation from prying eyes — to protect a sensitive technique or classified technologies — was not satisfied. After all‚ the robot and water disruptor technology are widely known and taught. Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. New Diablo 4 mount costs more than the actual game

Diablo 4 launched with plenty of lofty expectations last year. It turned out to be a solid if unsurprising sequel‚ elevated throughout its single-player campaign by weighty‚ gory combat and an appropriately gloomy atmosphere that made exploring its Gothic dungeons‚ noxious swamps‚ and stretches of rolling desert more compelling than action RPG game competitors‚ like Path of Exile‚ Grim Dawn‚ or Torchlight. Still‚ its creator‚ Blizzard Entertainment‚ has diminished some of the enjoyment of reaching high levels and kitting out your characters in fancy gear by leaning heavily into microtransactions. The latest of these‚ a mount called Vitreous Scourge‚ is especially egregious‚ requiring players to spend more on getting it than the cost of Diablo 4 itself.
