The remains of a woman found in a Nashville river 26 years ago have been identified thanks to advancements in DNA technology. Remains pulled from the Cumberland River in 1998 belong to Diane Minor, 54, who had vanished sometime earlier, though no missing person report was ever filed, The Tennessean reported. Before her remains were identified, they were referred to as Leo Jane Doe due to a necklace found on the body containing the Leo Zodiac sign. Now that her remains have been identified, investigators can work to find out who murdered her, as her remains revealed she had been shot twice. Minor’s high school friend Beverly Peeler told WTVF she “always wondered what happened to” Minor and said she was “very popular” and “real bubbly, a great cheerleader.” Another friend and coworker, Mark Degon, told the outlet Minor was “full of life, full of energy, always happy.” “[Her disappearance] perplexed everybody,” Degon continued. “We were all like, where’s Diane, it was so out of character, it was like, where is she?” While no missing person report was filed for Minor, Degon said he remembered someone saying she had moved to Colorado. “It makes you feel things. It makes you feel like, should we have called somebody else? But when you’re told she moved…you gotta take it at face value at some point,” he told WTVF. Before her murder, Minor lived a quiet life working as the manager of the now-closed Davis-Kidd Booksellers in Nashville. Her introduction as manager was posted in a 1993 advertisement, saying she had been hired by the bookstore five years earlier as the human resources manager, according to the Tennessean. In her youth, however, Minor was an up-and-coming singer and beauty queen. Shortly after graduating high school, Minor signed a record contract with Wilburn Brothers. In June 1962, she was first featured in the newspapers after being named “Miss Congeniality” in the Miss Nashville Pageant. “Diane Minor, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.N. Minor, 3112 West End Circle, captured the audience by singing ‘Misty,'” the Tennessean wrote at the time. “Her voice has a kind of husky Eartha Kitt quality, with sweetly sad tones excellently controlled.” A few weeks later, the same outlet named her the “Discovery of the Week,” and she was runner-up in its “Discovery of the Year” contest. She also previously worked as an IBM operator for National Life and Accident Insurance Co. and had a regular gig on the Stu Phillips show on Channel 8 in the mid-60s as a vocalist and weather girl.

Richard Herrera, whose daughter, Marine Corps Sgt. Nicole Gee, 23, was killed, said of Biden, “He’s not invited to the funeral. If he comes, I won’t let him in the door. I don’t even really want to talk to anyone in his administration. There’s blood on his hands. I’m trying to keep it not political, but I can’t. You can’t not do that. It’s what got my daughter killed.” The mother of Lance Cpl. Rylee McCollum, Kathy McCollum, told a radio show, “That feckless, dementia-ridden piece of crap just sent my son to die.” The mother of Marine Lance Corporal Kareem Nikoui, Shana Chappell, spoke of Biden’s insensitivity when he spoke to her, recalling in an interview with Townhall, “He interrupted me and started talking about his son. About his son. And I remember looking at him and going, ‘What are you doing?’ And then I said something along the line, ‘This isn’t about your son. This is about my son.’” “I told him he had no business talking about his son,” she continued. “And then I started again talking about my son, and then he said, ‘I just wanted to let you know how I feel.’” “At that point, now I’m even more angry because he said he brought up his son because he just wanted to let me know how he feels,” she remembered. “I probably sounded like I didn’t care that he lost a kid and I didn’t mean for it to sound that way. It’s — his son died of cancer, so they had time to be there, spend time with him, tell him goodbye. My son died because of the very man that I was talking to.”

Leading members of the Democratic Party said they believe President Joe Biden, who is facing a crisis of confidence after a fumbling debate, will soon decide to drop out of the 2024 White House race, according to a new report. Axios said on Thursday that several of these top Democrats divulged how they think Biden could reach the conclusion as early as this weekend as pressure, grim poll numbers, and public scrutiny continue to mount. “The private message, distilled to its bluntest form: The top leaders of his party, his friends and key donors believe he can’t win, can’t change public perceptions of his age and acuity, and can’t deliver congressional majorities,” the report noted. Another revelation was that the Axios report said the news outlet’s reporters were “increasingly” hearing that high-level Biden aides conceding that it is a matter of when, not if, the president announces he is no longer seeking a second term. T.J. Ducklo, a senior adviser to Biden’s re-election campaign, pushed back on the reporting — which came directly from Axios co-founders Mike Allen and Jim VandeHei — as the whisper campaign against the president heats up. “Joe Biden is his party’s nominee. He’s the President of the United States. He’s running for re-election. Baseless conjecture from anonymous sources isn’t a scoop,” he said on X before taking a swipe at former President Donald Trump. Biden, 81, publicly insisted that he would stay in the contest after his disastrous debate performance late last month in which he appeared confused and lost his train of thought. Polling shows Democrats and independents losing faith in him. A growing number of Democrats, including Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), have since publicly called on Biden to let someone else take on the presidential nomination for their party amid unease about his apparent decline and electability. Reports have said that top party members of Congress, including House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), have spoken to Biden about their concerns of him staying in the race. The New York Times noted Biden has become “more receptive” to calls for him to step aside and, in an interview with BET News, the president said he would consider dropping out if doctors diagnosed him with a “medical condition.” Biden cut short a campaign swing out in the western United States last night. The White House announced that the president tested positive for COVID-19 and would perform his duties while self-isolating in his home state of Delaware.

Michael Cline, founder of the popular movie ticketing service Fandango, has died from an apparent suicide after falling from a luxury New York City hotel on Tuesday morning. Cline, 64, reportedly jumped from the 20th floor of the Kimberly Hotel. “Upon arrival, officers found an unconscious and unresponsive male with injuries indicative of a fall from an elevated position. The investigation remains ongoing,” NYPD said in a statement, per Variety. Law enforcement listed Cline’s address as being in Palm Beach, Florida, noting that he had purchased the property there in 2020 for $21 million. He is survived by a wife and six children, per The New York Post. The outlet also reported that Cline left a suicide note. His death came as a shock to his friends and family and occurred just days after he underwent gallbladder surgery, sources said. Cline founded Fandango with Art Levitt in 2000 and remained with the company until 2011. Fandango partnered with seven major movie theater chains, including Loews Cineplex Entertainment, Regal Cinemas, Carmike Cinemas, Cinemark Theaters, General Cinema Theaters, Edwards Theatres, and Century Theatres, to create an online service that made advance ticket sales easier. “A Fandango is fast and fun. Fandango is the perfect match to a service designed to make going to the movies easier and more enjoyable than ever before,” Cline told Variety when the site launched. The exec also called it “an instantly recognizable and distinctive name that sets us apart in our industry.”  Fandango was one of three major online advance movie ticket sale sites, along with MovieTickets.com and Atom Tickets. The company bought MovieTickets.com in 2017. Fandango was acquired and expanded several times over the years, starting with an acquisition by Comcast in 2007.  The outlet noted that Cline went on to head up other tech and venture capital firms after leaving Fandango, including hedge fund Bridgewater Associates. He also founded Accumen, Insureon, and Accolade through his Accretive company. These entities also invested in Fandango. Cline graduated from Cornell University and earned an MBA from Harvard University. A recent Fordham University article described him as a “serial entrepreneur” who encouraged students to “work with people you trust.”

Former President Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden in the 25 counties that have correctly predicted the last four elections, according to a new poll exclusively obtained by The Daily Wire. The polling firm Cygnal found that Trump leads Biden by 2 points in a head-to-head matchup across the 25 bellwether counties, though the Republican nominee enjoyed a 3 point advantage over Biden in polls that include third party candidates. “Since 2008, only 25 counties out of 3,142 across the United States have voted for Democrat Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012, Republican Donald Trump in 2016, and flipped back to Democrat, voting for Joe Biden in 2020,” a poll analysis provided by Cygnal explains. The poll was conducted just after the June 27th presidential debate, and comes days after Trump survived an assassination attempt and was officially secured the Republican nomination. A large percentage of likely voters in the bellwether counties watched the debate between the two presidential contenders, and widely agreed that Trump won. “The fallout for Biden from the June 27th debate cannot be understated. 8-in-10 likely voters in the nation’s Bellwether Counties say they watched the debate, and of those, 63% say Trump won the debate, 17% Biden,” the poll states. Another 20% of respondents say that they are undecided on who won. The top issues for bellwether county voters are the economy, illegal immigration, and threats to democracy, in that order. Voters in these counties are more concerned about the latter two issues than the rest of the country. Among undecided independents, the top issues are illegal immigration and the economy, two topics that are likely to benefit Trump. The poll notes that these voters are slightly less pessimistic about the trajectory of the nation, but still widely agree that we are heading in the wrong direction. According to the Cygnal poll, “27% say the U.S. is headed in the right direction, 68% say we’re off on the wrong track.” Biden could also suffer from a lack of enthusiasm among bellwether county voters who supported him in 2020. Only 73% have committed to supporting the president in the upcoming election. Another 13% say that they have not committed to voting for the Democratic incumbent again. The Cygnal poll comes amid widespread speculation as to whether Biden will be replaced on the Democratic ticket ahead of the party’s August 19th convention. A new report from Axios states that some top Democrats believe that Biden is increasingly likely to drop out of the race and could back out as soon as this weekend. On Wednesday, Biden indicated in an interview clip that he would be open to dropping out of the race if he was diagnosed with a “medical condition.” Hours after the interview was released, he was diagnosed with COVID.
