Too Many Corporations‚ Like Universities‚ Have Lost Their Way

Universities are not alone among our institutions that have lost their way. How about America’s corporations‚ which now seem to think social justice is their job‚ besides efficiently delivering goods and services to the American public? In a recent panel discussion at the Bipartisan Policy Institute‚ Jamie Dimon‚ chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase‚ the nation’s largest bank‚ rang the alarm about the nation’s debt. Dimon noted what is already widely known—that federal debt now equals 100% of gross domestic product‚ on its way to 130% of GDP by 2035. We’re headed for a cliff at “60 miles an hour‚” said Dimon. But this is not new. In 2018‚ for instance‚ an opinion piece in The Washington Post authored by former Secretary of State George Shultz and four distinguished economists from the Hoover Institution—Michael Boskin‚ John Cochrane‚ John Cogan‚ and John B. Taylor—announced: “A debt crisis is on the horizon.” The authors pointed to the enormous burden and risk to our budget of what was then the nation’s debt burden‚ which stood at $15 trillion‚ or 76% of gross domestic product. Now we’re at $34 trillion and 100% of GDP. At the end of 2008‚ by contrast‚ debt stood at 43% of GDP. It is good that the chairman of the largest bank in the country is waking up. But where has Dimon been‚ and is he really waking up? Per OpenSecrets‚ which tracks and reports political spending‚ 65% of JPMorgan’s political contributions in the most recent political cycle‚ 2023-24‚ went to Democrats. Their contributions to “liberal groups” were greater than contributions to “conservative groups” by a margin of 10-to-1. The Business Roundtable is a Washington‚ D.C.-based association of “more than 200 chief executive officers of America’s leading companies … that support 1 in 4 American jobs and almost a quarter of U.S. GDP.” In 2019‚ Jamie Dimon served as the Business Roundtable’s chairman‚ and under his leadership‚ the organization made a significant change. It always has been understood that the responsibility of any corporation is to serve the interests of its shareholders—the owners of the company. Economist Milton Friedman wrote in his famous book “Capitalism and Freedom‚” first published in 1962‚ that corporations have one responsibility—to maximize profitability for shareholders. “Few trends could so thoroughly undermine the very foundations of our free society as the acceptance by corporate officials of a social responsibility other than to make as much money for their stockholders as possible‚” wrote Friedman. But in 2019‚ the Business Roundtable did exactly this. The group announced that it was abandoning the primacy of serving shareholders as the core corporate responsibility and that shareholders now would be viewed as just one group of “stakeholders‚” alongside “customers‚ employees‚ suppliers” and “communities.” What happened to private property? Corporate CEOs work for the owners‚ the shareholders. Private property is what sets a free society apart from socialism. JPMorgan’s Dimon noted: “The American dream is alive but fraying. … These modernized principles reflect the business community’s unwavering commitment to continue to push for an economy that serves all Americans.” If the American dream is “fraying‚” it is because of a departure from the principles that define a free society‚ upon which our great country emerged. Economic freedom‚ private property‚ personal responsibility‚ and creativity are the source of our success‚ not of our failures. Blurring the lines between the private and the public‚ no one knows what their job is—government‚ corporations‚ universities. Government has exploded by trying to do what individuals should be doing for themselves. The result of all the efficiencies is slowdown of growth. The victims are the poor‚ not high-earning CEOs. As our country sinks under a tsunami of spending and debt‚ hopefully the CEO of the nation’s largest bank‚ and CEOs of all our corporations‚ will wake up to the fact that loss of freedom‚ not too much freedom‚ is what is hurting our nation. Woman Offers to Help a Shelter Cat‚ Hours Later Finds Kittens in Her House‚ It's the Most Rewarding Thing

A kind woman offered to help a shelter cat. Hours later‚ she found kittens in her house. It was the most rewarding thing. Suzie and her kittensMegyn at Kitten KonnoisseurMegyn was at the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter when she noticed a cat‚ Suzie‚ lying on her side with a big belly. The cat's previous family left her behind when they moved. A Good Samaritan found her wandering the streets heavily pregnant and brought her to the shelter for help. The shelter environment isn't ideal for raising kittens‚ so Megyn offered to foster the expectant mom. "When I noticed Suzie‚ she was showing the beginning signs of being in labor‚" Megyn told Love Meow. Suzie was heavily pregnant when she was brought to the shelterMegyn at Kitten KonnoisseurShortly after arriving at her foster home‚ Suzie lay beside Megyn and showered her with purrs and affection. "She plopped herself right by me and immediately started making biscuits on my face. Then‚ she proceeded to groom my entire face."Suzie was over the moon to be out of the shelter and have a comfortable place for her kittens. She immediately clung to her foster momMegyn at Kitten KonnoisseurThat evening‚ she brought four babies into the world and spent the night tending to them. Just when Megyn thought that was all the kittens‚ she was in for a surprise. The next day‚ Megyn woke up to a fifth baby nursing alongside the others. Mama Suzie was incredibly loving and nurturing‚ keeping all five clean‚ warm and well-fed. Suzie had four kittens on the first day in foster care and one surprise baby the next morningMegyn at Kitten KonnoisseurAs it turned out‚ Suzie needed more than just a nursery but also an experienced carer to help her thrive.About ten days after giving birth‚ she became ill with the dreaded panleukopenia. Familiar with the treatment protocol‚ Megyn immediately started testing‚ providing medications and supportive care. Her swift action and tireless efforts saved Suzie's life. Megyn at Kitten Konnoisseur"By pure good fortune‚ none of the kittens have shown symptoms. Suzie was a champ through her illness and never stopped caring for her babies. She loves them more than anything."Suzie is protective and keeps a watchful eye on her kittens. "She's always running to the door or growling if she hears another animal." She is an incredibly loving cat motherMegyn at Kitten KonnoisseurShe trusts her foster mom whole-heartedly and allows her to dote on her precious five. "She is a people-person through and through. She loves to share her babies with her human pals."At almost seven weeks old‚ the kitten crew is a curious‚ boisterous bunch. They romp around their room‚ pouncing on each other‚ keeping their mom on her toes. Megyn at Kitten KonnoisseurAfter a flurry of activity‚ the kittens nestle in their fluffy bed and snooze away in a cuddle pile."When Suzie is not being the world's best mother‚ she can be found having lengthy conversations with her human friends. She loves to sit and chat." Megyn at Kitten KonnoisseurSuzie has had multiple litters over her adult life. Fortunately‚ this will be her last one. When the kittens are big enough to spread their wings and fly‚ she'll get to enjoy her retirement and focus on being a cat again. Megyn at Kitten Konnoisseur"As a confident cat‚ she loves to explore new places but always comes back to sit by her person's side."If she were a person‚ she would be Elle Woods -- always glamorous‚ ensures her appearance is immaculate‚ a natural leader‚ a social butterfly‚ and smart to boot." Megyn at Kitten Konnoisseur"We are so lucky we've had the pleasure of hosting Suzie while she raises her five perfect babies." Megyn at Kitten KonnoisseurShare this story with your friends. Former Dem senator demands the media stop fact-checking Biden until they fact-check Trump every day: 'He vomits lies!'

Former Democrat Senator Clare McCaskill berated the media in an unhinged rant that demanded they stop fact-checking President Joe Biden until they fact-checked former President Donald Trump. McCaskill was on the "Morning Joe" show on MSNBC when she complained that the U.S. was an embarrassment to other countries because of Trump. "What everyone says when you travel‚ 'Well‚ you wouldn't elect him again‚ would you? Hasn't the country learned? You wouldn't ever give this guy power again‚ would you? Tell us that he's not going to be re-elected. Please‚ tell us you've learned your lesson‚'" she said. "So the only blemish on the great country of America worldwide is‚ in fact‚ Donald Trump‚" McCaskill added. "And can I make a suggestion? I move that every newspaper in America quits doing any fact-checks on Joe Biden until they fact-check Donald Trump every morning on the front page‚" she continued. "It is ridiculous that The New York Times fact-checked Joe Biden on something. I mean‚ he vomits lies‚ Trump vomits lies. Every day‚ over and over and over again." She went on to deride the New York Times for fact-checking Biden while being "numb" to the "torrent of lies" coming out of Trump. Host Joe Scarborough agreed with McCaskill and said that constant lying was a technique used by fascists. The Times had fact-checked Biden on several economic claims he made and called them "misleading statements." Among those was a false accusation about the tax rate of the top 400 wealthiest households that depended on spurious data that ignored other taxes paid. The Times also accused the president of overestimating the amount of private investment spurred by the CHIPS And Science Act by three times as much as the true figure. McCaskill was a U.S. senator representing Missouri from 2007 until 2019. Here's the video of her comments: Like Blaze News?
