Voters headed to the polls n South Carolina on Saturday to choose who they think should be the 2024 Republican presidential nominee. The race features former President Donald Trump‚ who had a commanding lead in the state heading into the primary‚ and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley‚ who has promised to stay in the race even if she comes up short in her home state. Voting is open from 7:00 a.m to 7:00 p.m. EST.  Both candidates had events scheduled in the state in the days leading up to the election.Trump spoke to thousands at Winthrop Coliseum in Rock Hill on Friday‚ appearing with prominent South Carolina political leaders including Governor Henry McMaster‚  South Carolina Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette‚ Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC)‚ and U.S. Rep. William Timmons (R-SC). Trump has the endorsements of McMaster‚ Scott‚ and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC).  “Tomorrow you’re going to cast one of the most important votes of your entire life‚” Trump said. “And honestly we’re not very worried about tomorrow‚ we want to aim towards November 5th.” During his speech‚ Trump ripped into President Joe Biden over his handling of the economy‚ the border‚ and foreign policy. Later on Friday Trump spoke at the Black Conservative Federation in Columbia. Haley also made stops throughout South Carolina on Friday‚ including Charleston and Mount Pleasant. Haley said that she would give Republicans a better avenue to defeat Biden than Trump would. “We can either do more of the same‚ and more of the same is not just Joe Biden‚ more of the same is Donald Trump‚ or we can elect a new generational leader that will lead us forward with solutions for the future‚” she said.  “Our kids deserve normal they deserve to know what normal feels like. Joe Biden calls anybody that doesn’t support him fascists. And Donald Trump calls anybody that doesn’t support him vermin. Look‚ if she was doing well‚ I’d understand it. But she’s doing very poorly.  There are 50 delegates at stake in South Carolina. The state has an open primary system‚ which means that Democrats can vote on Saturday if they did not vote in the Democratic primary earlier this year.  After South Carolina‚ the next contest for the Republican nomination will be in Michigan.

When a woman was standing on the banks of a pond‚ she was visited by three ducks needing a rescue‚ and she saved the day. Now she has a feathered friend for life. The woman‚ Olga Rivera‚ shared a video of the miraculous experience she had with the animals. As she was photographing birds‚ she noticed what appeared to be a dead duck. Her neck was bent sideways‚ and she was motionless. @guilligan1212 ♬ Surrender – Natalie Taylor Two other ducks were sitting beside the dead duck‚ and when they noticed Olga‚ they did the strangest thing—they began to push the dead duck toward Olga as though they wanted her to rescue her. Olga didn’t understand what was happening until she saw the unconscious duck open her eyes and try to pull her neck out of the water. “She was breathing in water but couldn’t move‚” Olga wrote. Olga lifted the duck’s face out of the pond and held her steady while she “pushed out all the water she’d taken in.” Once the duck felt more steady‚ she swam off. “She left a little wobbly‚” Olga continued. “But her heroes were behind her to give support.” TikTok The next day‚ the experience became even more magical. A chilling incident led to a heroic rescue when an 8-year-old girl fell through the ice into a freezing pond! Thankfully‚ Vermont State Trooper Michelle Archer was on the scene in no time. She rushed into the water‚ bringing the drowning child safely back to the shore. Another state trooper carried the girl the rest of the way to the ambulance‚ which was ready and waiting to take her to the hospital. According to the Associated Press‚ the little girl and her younger sister were playing on the ice when it suddenly broke beneath them. It’s a good thing the owner of the property was there at the time! This quick-thinking 80-year-old was able to rescue the smaller of the two girls from the pond. When they couldn’t get to the second child‚ they called 911. Vermont state troopers arrived in under five minutes! Once State Trooper Michelle Archer rescued the 8-year-old from the from the frozen pond‚ emergency responders drove her to University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. After treatment‚ the little girl was sent home. Now‚ she’s doing just fine! A 99-year-old named Betty Brussel just proved that age means nothing by breaking three amateur swimming world records. On Saturday‚ Jan. 20‚ Betty Brussels headed into the Victoria Masters Swim Club Meet at the Commonwealth Pool in Saanich‚ British Columbia‚ and beat the reigning champions in the 50-meter backstroke‚ 50-meter breaststroke‚ and 400-meter freestyle in the 100 to 104-year-old age category. “I love being in a pool and gliding through the water‚” Betty told the Globe and Mail. “I feel better when I get out than when I go in. Swimming is my love. It makes me forget all of my worries and I feel great.” YouTube Betty Brussel didn’t get into competitive swimming until she was in her 60s‚ and this was the first time she was able to reach such a feat. She was able to break the records despite relying on a pacemaker she recieved after suffering a heart attack in her 70s. Filmmakers Are Eyeing Betty Brussel For a Documentary Betty completed her 50-meter backstroke in 1:24.91‚ which was almost five seconds faster than the previous record. She surpassed the formerly standing 400-meter freestyle record of 16:36.80 by completing hers in 12:50.03. Betty set the first record for the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:56.22.
