No Warning, No Explanation: YouTube Bans Political Commentator Tayler Hansen

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. Tayler Hansen, a prominent YouTuber and journalist associated with the ill-fated newsgroup Tenet Media, has been permanently banned from YouTube. This action comes in the wake of allegations that the company he was paid by was funded by those with ties to Russian state media. YouTube has banned Hansen, despite Hansen not being accused of any wrongdoing. Tenet Media, which aligns closely with the description of “Company 1” in a recent indictment by the US Department of Justice, is suspected of receiving financial support from RT, a state-controlled Russian media entity. We obtained a copy of the indictment for you here. The indictment, though not naming Tenet Media explicitly, alleges a shadowy $10 million effort spearheaded by RT to stir political unrest and division across various social media platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and X. Hansen was among six key figures who were contracted by Tenet Media and the indictment refers to content creators being deceived about the source of the funding. But following the indictment, in which Hansen is not named, not alluded to in a criminal manner, and in which no content creator is accused of knowing the source of the funding, YouTube suspended Hansen’s channel, deleting hundreds of videos that Hansen had created over the years. The videos deleted were unrelated to Tenet Media and were in existence before Tenet Media existed. Hansen posted a video about the ban on X. https://video.reclaimthenet.org/articles/TaylerUSA69764537642.mp4 “I was banned with no explanation, even though the indictment states, you know, if these charges are true, these allegations are true, we’re all victims. The people that were host there and me as a reporter there,” Hansen said. “It’s election season, baby. So, yeah, banned with no explanation. I wonder if they’re going to stop here, or are they just going to take it all the way? They’re going to ban anyone that was ever affiliated with his brand, um, which is absolutely mind-boggling to me.” YouTube has yet to issue a reason for the ban. São Paulo Streets Surged With Protesters After Supreme Court Suspends Musk’s X

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. Thousands of freedom supporters flooded the streets of São Paulo on Brazil’s Independence Day on Saturday in a protest centered on free speech. The demonstration was triggered by a nationwide suspension of X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, following a ruling by Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. The ban has been viewed by many as an act of political suppression, with protestors calling it an overreach of government power. This rally, beyond being a reaction to the ban, was also seen as an opportunity for former President Jair Bolsonaro to galvanize his base ahead of upcoming elections, despite his disqualification from running for office until 2030. Always display content from Twitter Open "content" directly Eduardo Bolsonaro, the former president’s son, added to this criticism, decrying Moraes’ apparent intention to “end freedom of speech in the country.” Prominent voices from the rally, such as US journalist Michael Shellenberger, who has been intensely covering the censorship situation in Brazil, so much so that he has feared being arrested for his reporting, spoke out against the government’s censorship, saying they stepped beyond the limits of the constitution. Shellenberger criticized the government’s demand for social media networks to censor and ban individual citizens, a move he characterized as interference with elections and democracy. Shellenberger reported that the crowd was changing “Fora Xandão!” Translating to, “Out with Xandão,” a nickname for Moraes. The crowd also showed signs with Moraes’ face with a large X logo through it. The protest unfolded as President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva attended an official military parade in Brasilia, highlighting the political divide in the country. Bolsonaro, clad in the national colors, made an appearance on São Paulo’s Paulista Avenue, addressing his enthusiastic supporters from a makeshift stage. His speech condemned Moraes, calling him a “dictator” and demanding his impeachment, accusing the judiciary of attempting to censor the truth. The Supreme Court’s unanimous decision to uphold the ban on X has sparked widespread debate, even among legal experts, who argue that the measures are excessive. Greek lemon chicken is a dog-days delight

Greek lemon chicken is a dog-days delight

Where I am, the heat still hasn’t tapered off: The dog days of summer are clinging to our forecasts like stubborn residue on your favorite steel pan. It feels like it’s going to take a miracle for the dog days to leave. Until then, this recipe for Greek lemon chicken will have to do. It's a very nice bridge from summer to fall and reheats well for leftovers. It pairs beautifully with a cold cucumber salad (or squash, if it ever starts feeling autumnal around here). Get our your favorite family casserole dish and prepare for a healthy meal to share. Note: Marinate the chicken overnight for best results. Also: I've recently developed a fondness for finishing salts. Lately, I've been enjoying the many varieties Jacobsen Salt Co. makes from salt it harvests from Netarts Bay in Oregon. This Infused Black Garlic Salt would make a great topping for this particular dish; it could also make a nice housewarming or Christmas gift. Too soon to be thinking about that? Not if you’re a homemaker! Ingredients 8 bone-in chicken thighs¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil¼ cup butter¼ cup lemon juice5 garlic gloves, minced1 tablespoon dried oregano2 teaspoons dried thyme2 teaspoons rosemary2 teaspoons Dijon mustard2 teaspoons kosher salt1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepperInstructions Make the marinade: In a small bowl, stir together the oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, thyme, mustard, salt, and pepper.Marinate the chicken: Add the chicken thighs to a large bowl and pour the marinade on top. Marinate for 1 to 2 hours (and up to 8 hours) in the fridge.Transfer to baking dish: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place the chicken in a baking dish and pour the remaining marinade on top.Bake the chicken: Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until the chicken is fully cooked and registers 175°F on an instant-read thermometer. Optionally, you can baste the chicken a few times while it cooks. And for extra crispy skin, turn on the top oven broiler in the last 2 to 3 minutes. If you're serving this dish up for a dinner party, garnish with lemon slices and fresh rosemary or thyme.
