DC Universe Reveals New ‘Supergirl’ For Upcoming Film

Australian actress Milly Alcock‚ best known for starring in HBO’s “Game of Thrones” prequel spinoff series “House of the Dragon‚” has been named as DC Universe’s new Supergirl. The 23-year-old played the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen on the show. Alcock was nominated for a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work on “HOTD.” Now she’ll become an even bigger household name starring as the iconic superhero in the first film project spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran for the DC Universe (DCU)‚ per Deadline. “This is accurate. Milly is a fantastically talented young actor‚ and I’m incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU‚” Gunn confirmed on Instagram. “Yes‚ I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl‚” he continued. “She embodies Kara as envisioned by @tomking_tk and @bliquis and Ana Noguiera.” Other contenders for the coveted role included “CODA” star Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly‚ who voiced Supergirl in the DC animated movies “Legion of Superheroes” and “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One‚” the outlet noted. Rumor has it that Supergirl could have a cameo in the upcoming DC film “Superman Legacy‚” but that’s so far unconfirmed. The first project Alcock will definitely star in is the upcoming “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow‚” which was announced last year. The storyline will be based on Yom King’s 2022 comic book series. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Gunn told Deadline of this Supergirl version‚ “In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant‚ versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock‚ a chip off Krypton‚ and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life‚ and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.” Alcock made her screen debut as a teenager in Australia‚ appearing in commercials before transitioning to various TV projects. “House of the Dragon” was her big break into Hollywood.

‘Squad’ Member Cori Bush Faces DOJ Criminal Probe

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO)‚ a member of the leftist “Squad” and “Defund the Police” advocate‚ for allegedly misspending funds meant for personal security. Sources told Punchbowl News that a subpoena for records announced in the House on Monday was connected to a criminal probe into Bush. The inquiry is looking at issues related to her Member Representation Allowance (MRA). House Sergeant at Arms William McFarland said in a message conveyed by the reading clerk that he consulted with the Office of General Counsel and determined that compliance was “consistent with the rights and privileges of the House.” Max Cohen‚ a reporter for Punchbowl News‚ said in a post to X that he asked Bush “directly” about the investigation on Monday night. “She repeatedly declined to comment and reprimanded me for approaching her as she had a toothache‚” the journalist recalled. Bush released a statement on Tuesday that said she can “confirm” that the DOJ is “reviewing” her campaign’s spending on security services. “We are fully cooperating in this investigation‚” she added. “Since before I was sworn into office‚ I have endured relentless threats to my physical safety and life‚” Bush said. “As a rank-and-file member of Congress I am not entitled to personal protection by the House‚ and instead have used campaign funds as permissible to retain security services. I have not used any federal tax dollars for personal security funds.” Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA)‚ the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus‚ declined to comment on the DOJ probe news on Tuesday‚ saying “that’s something for the Justice Department.” Bush has represented her St. Louis-area district since 2021 after she toppled Rep. Lacy Clay (D-MO) in the 2020 primary‚ and over the years she has faced scrutiny over payments for private security despite her calls to defund the police. Fox News reported that Bush has spent more than $750‚000 on private security since being elected to office. The congresswoman has previously said she was doling out money for protection because of attempts on her life. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP In addition to the federal spending‚ Cori Bush's congressional campaign committee has also spent over three quarters of a million dollars on security since 2020‚ far and away the campaign's biggest expense category. https://t.co/GylrJyLvnJ pic.twitter.com/mdyRygRUPK — Rob Pyers (@rpyers) January 30‚ 2024 Conservative watchdog groups have raised concerns about tens of thousands of campaign dollars in payments to Courtney Merrits‚ whom Bush married nearly a year ago after hiring him as a security guard‚ potentially not being for “bona fide services” and at “fair market value.” Bush said in her statement on Tuesday that the “frivolous” complaints have resulted in a number of ongoing investigations‚ including by the Federal Election Commission and the House Ethics Committee‚ and she insisted that her team is cooperating with all of them. The congresswoman also noted the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) “found no wrongdoing and voted unanimously to dismiss the case” and added that she looks forward to “this same outcome” in all the pending investigations. The OCE Board said in September that it voted to recommend to the House Ethics Committee that the matter be dismissed‚ according to a letter reported by the New York Post. “I am under no illusion that these right-wing organizations will stop politicizing and pursuing efforts to attack me and the work that the people of St. Louis sent me to Congress to do: to lead boldly‚ to legislate change my constituents can feel‚ and to save lives‚” Bush said in her statement on Tuesday.

Coen Brothers To Reunite For ‘Very Bloody’ Horror Film

It’s been many years since the famed filmmakers‚ the Coen brothers‚ teamed up for a movie.  Joel and Ethan Coen haven’t collaborated on a new project since the American Western anthology film‚ “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs‚” in 2018. Now they’re getting together once again for what Ethan confirmed would be a “very bloody” horror movie that’s also humorous. The brothers have been working separately lately‚ with Joel putting out an adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” starring Denzel Washington in 2021. Ethan will soon release the comedy “Drive-Away Dolls‚” which was co-written with his wife Tricia Cooke and stars Margaret Qualley‚ Geraldine Viswanathan‚ and Beanie Feldstein. At a “Drive-Away Dolls Q&;A” event in Tromsø‚ Norway‚ Ethan shared that he and Joel had written a new script together and would also direct it together.  “It’s a pure horror film‚ and it gets very bloody‚” Ethan said. “If you like ‘Blood Simple‚’ I think you’ll enjoy it‚” he added‚ referencing the brothers’ first film‚ a violent neo-noir which premiered in 1984. He also called the script for the new project “horribly funny.” Ethan had previously talked about his decision to make films separately from his brother after years of them being thought of as a single entity in Hollywood‚ per The Independent.  CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “You start out when you’re a kid and you want to make a movie. Everything’s enthusiasm and gung-ho‚ let’s go make a movie. And the first movie is just loads of fun‚” he said in 2022 while promoting “Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble in Mind‚” which he also made with Cooke. “And then the second movie is loads of fun‚ almost as much fun as the first. And after 30 years‚ not that it’s no fun‚ but it’s more of a job than it had been. Joel kind of felt the same way but not to the extent that I did.” He continued‚ “It’s an inevitable by-product of aging. And the last two movies we made‚ me and Joel together‚ were really difficult in terms of production. I mean‚ really difficult. So if you don’t have to do it‚ you go at a certain point: Why am I doing this?”

‘Penthouse? It’s Yours’: E. Jean Carroll Quips About Spending Spree With Trump Judgment Cash

E. Jean Carroll unleashed a string of wild boasts‚ predicting all the things she might do to benefit “women’s rights” with the nearly $84 million judgment that she was awarded in the defamation trial against former President Donald Trump. Carroll laughed through her recent MSNBC appearance on Monday as she suggested new wardrobes‚ new shoes‚ and even a penthouse for host Rachel Maddow — among a number of other lavish gifts and expenditures — all while her attorney‚ looking increasingly uncomfortable waved her off: “That’s a joke.” WATCH: Rachel Maddow asks E. Jean Carroll what she's going to do with "Trump's money" to help "women's rights." Carroll says she and Maddow will "go shopping‚ get completely new wardrobes‚ new shoes…Rachel‚ what do you want‚ penthouse?" Her lawyer nervously says "that's a joke": pic.twitter.com/5LAx5xU5Uy — Steve Krakauer (@SteveKrak) January 30‚ 2024 Maddow kicked off the exchange by recalling a previous statement from Carroll‚ in which she had promised to do something with “Trump’s money” to benefit women’s rights — and then she asked Carroll if she had any firm plans with that regard and to describe what that might look like. “Yes‚ Rachel!” Carroll replied‚ clearly excited. “I have such — I have such great ideas for all the good I’m going to do with this money.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “First thing‚ Rachel‚ you and I are going to go shopping‚” she continued in exaggerated tones‚ getting laughs from her attorneys and Maddow. “We’re going to get completely new wardrobes‚ new shoes‚ motorcycle for [Attorney Shawn] Crowley‚ new fishing rod for [Attorney Roberta Kaplan] — Rachel‚ what do you want? Penthouse? It’s yours!” Maddow continued to laugh‚ and Carroll kept going: “Penthouse … France? You want France? You want to go fishing in France? No? Oh‚ all right.” Maddow shook her head‚ still laughing‚ and one of Carroll’s attorneys jumped in quickly to clarify: “That’s a joke.” “Although‚ if me fishing in France could do something for women’s rights‚ I would take the hit‚” Maddow replied. “I’d take one for the team.”

‘The View’ Host Hid Trump Presidency From Her Kids‚ Wouldn’t Let Them Watch The News

“The View” host Sara Haines admitted during a recent broadcast that she had actively hidden Donald Trump’s presidency from her children — a feat that she said was made all the more difficult by the fact that they were just learning about presidents and what they did. Haines explained Tuesday on the ABC midday talk show that she had even gone as far as policing what her kids could see on the news‚ refusing to allow her children to watch updates if former President Trump was to be the subject. She avoided any mention of the presidency at all until after President Joe Biden won in November of 2020. WATCH: Sara Haines says she didn't tell her kids who the president was it was Trump."I literally had to hide news for four years while Donald Trump was in. Because as they're learning what a president of the United States is‚ I didn't want to say‚ 'yeah and that's him right there.'" pic.twitter.com/bWQhRbGVRJ — Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) January 30‚ 2024 “Do you know what my child can’t watch? News‚” Haines said. “When you turn it on — I literally had to hide news for four years while Donald Trump was in. Because as they’re learning what a President of the United States is‚ I didn’t want to say‚ ‘Yeah‚ and that’s him right there.'” “So I couldn’t even announce the president until Biden and Vice President Harris won‚” she continued. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Haines shares the table at ABC’s “The View” with several women who fall right in line with that perspective — first and foremost being longtime regular host Whoopi Goldberg‚ who refuses to even say Donald Trump’s name aloud on the air. Instead‚ she refers to him in the Harry-Potter-esque terminology: “You Know Who.” Cohost Sunny Hostin rarely mentions Trump without referring to him as the “twice-impeached” president. And newest cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin — who worked in the Trump administration but quit shortly after the 2020 presidential election — has suggested that despite identifying as a Republican‚ she would consider voting for a Democrat if it meant she had an opportunity to vote against Trump.

‘She’s A Wack Job! What’s He Supposed To Say?’: Megyn Kelly Unloads On Media Over E. Jean Carroll/Trump Case

Journalist and podcast host Megyn Kelly on Monday laid out her issues with the steep $83 million fine former President Donald Trump has been ordered to pay in the defamation case of writer E. Jean Carroll‚ along with the media’s coverage of the case. Kelly suggested Carroll might actually be the “wack job” Trump says she is and that the former president didn’t assault her‚ as Carroll claims. In that case‚ Trump should be permitted to call her a liar and defend himself. “Let’s just entertain for a minute that Trump is the truth-teller‚ here‚” Kelly said‚ “that Trump actually has no memory of this person‚ and certainly didn’t sexually assault her‚ and that she really is some sort of a kook who decided to make up a story about him to get her name in the headlines‚ to potentially get money from a deep-pocketed guy.” She continued‚ “The media has zero appetite for entertaining that possibility.” “She’s a wack job! What’s he supposed to say?” Kelly added‚ while noting that Carroll is going on mainstream airwaves and bashing Trump without consequence. Kelly emphasized that Trump was never criminally convicted for an assault against Carroll‚ but a civil jury decided it was more likely than not that Trump assaulted her. “She couldn’t even remember when it happened‚” Kelly said of the Trump accuser. “She didn’t have a police report; she didn’t have a medical report; she had nothing other than two friends who said‚ ‘yeah she mentioned it at the time.'” Kelly also highlighted that the 30-year gap between the alleged assault and the accusation makes it nearly impossible for Trump‚ or any person for that matter‚ to defend themselves. In one example‚ the journalist explained how difficult it would be to place your whereabouts some 30 years after the fact. Journalist Glenn Greenwald joined Kelly on the episode and lamented the “weaponization of the judicial system.” Some of the judges in the multiple cases against the former president are “just so unabashedly anti-Trump‚” he said. “There’s an attempt to destroy political enemies and one of those weapons is the judicial system.” Megyn Kelly‚ not Donald Trump’s biggest fan‚ has major issues with the defamation lawsuit verdict. pic.twitter.com/WF3JfpcHbk — Big Fish (@BigFish3000) January 30‚ 2024 Trump has maintained that he never assaulted Carroll and didn’t know her. Throughout the trial‚ he published social media posts criticizing the writer. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP In one instance‚ he posted a viral video of Carroll speaking to CNN anchor Anderson Cooper about rape being largely viewed as a “fantasy.” Cooper looks visibly uncomfortable during the exchange and cuts to break. “Can you believe I have to defend myself against this woman’s fake story?” Trump captioned the video. Trump shares the E Jean Carroll clip where she told Anderson Cooper that people "think rape is sexy." Montana Governor Says State Followed Law In Case Where Trans-Identifying Teen Was Removed From Parents

Montana’s Republican governor said Monday that his state followed state law in a case where a trans-identifying teenager was removed from her parents. A Montana couple accused the state of “kidnapping” their teenage daughter after she began identifying as a boy‚ Reduxx reported Monday. Krista and Todd Kolstad said their 14-year-old daughter was removed from their custody and sent to a Wyoming facility‚ where they were unable to contact her directly. 🚨🚨🚨SCOOP The state of Montana has kidnapped a teenage girl from her parents to transition her gender in another state‚ subverting Montana's laws against gender transition for minors. That night‚ a Montana Child and Family Services case worker showed up at their door‚ Reduxx reported. During the case worker’s visit‚ the teen claimed to have ingested painkillers and toilet bowl cleaner to try to kill herself. This led to a hospital visit‚ where her bloodwork showed no evidence of those toxins. However‚ hospital workers noted in paperwork that the teen identified as “male” and wanted to be called “Leo.” Her parents objected‚ but hospital staff told the parents to “respect” their daughter’s new identity‚ they said. Eventually‚ the state removed the teen from her parents’ custody and moved her to a facility in Wyoming‚ the parents said. Police showed up at their home to serve them with custody papers‚ saying the reason was that the teen’s parents were “unable or refusing to provide medical care‚” which her mother said is “just not true.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP The parents said they were not allowed to communicate directly with their daughter while she was in Wyoming. In September‚ the teen was returned to Montana and now lives in a group home. However‚ earlier this month‚ Child and Family Services said it planned to place the teen in the care of her birth mother in Canada‚ who has not been a part of the teen’s life‚ and whose children have made allegations of physical abuse against her‚ according to the parents. “Our family has been destroyed by this. We have little to no contact with Jennifer and our rights as her parents have been trampled on‚” Krista told Reduxx. The couple defied a judge’s order to remain silent on the case. “We will continue to fight. We will never give up on our daughter and for what we believe is morally right. We will continue to tell our story‚ even though we are currently in contempt of court‚ and try to keep other families from going through this. Our greatest fear is that our daughter is now going to become a victim of this system and eventually take her own life‚” she said. To give them their best shot at reaching their full potential‚ children deserve to grow up in happy‚ healthy homes with loving families. Sadly‚ this ideal is not always realized. 1/8 — Governor Greg Gianforte (@GovGianforte) January 29‚ 2024 On Monday‚ Montana Governor Greg Gianforte‚ a Republican‚ said the state had reviewed the case and concluded that state policy and law was followed. “To give them their best shot at reaching their full potential‚ children deserve to grow up in happy‚ healthy homes with loving families. Sadly‚ this ideal is not always realized‚” Gianforte posted on X. “Unfortunately‚ our society finds children whose life‚ health‚ and wellbeing are at serious risk from abuse and neglect‚ and only as a last resort‚ should they be removed from their home.” Gianforte said he asked Lieutenant Governor Kristen Juras (R)‚ an “experienced attorney‚ constitutional conservative‚ mother‚ and grandmother‚” to review the child welfare case. The lieutenant governor personally examined case documents and consulted with the director of Montana’s Department of Public Health and Human Services. She concluded that the department and the court “have followed state policy and law in their handling of this tragic case‚” Gianforte said. “I have asked the lieutenant governor to continue monitoring the case as it progresses‚” the governor added.
