WATCH: Babylon Bee CEO Explains Why Experts Should NEVER Be Censors

The CEO of a popular satire site summed up exactly why no expert should ever have the ability to determine what free speech is allowed. Private experts‚ Big Tech employees and government officials alike have all appointed themselves arbiters of what speech should be censored and what speech will be allowed. This anti-constitutional attitude is also totally out of touch with a basic fact‚ one which The Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon highlighted as a “knock-down argument” against censorship: experts can be wrong. Because of this fact‚ “dissent must not only be allowed‚ but encouraged‚” Dillon posted on X (formerly Twitter) on April 17. Dillon included a clip of his 2023 testimony before the House Energy and Commerce Committee besides his written comment. “Whenever we learn that censorship has blocked something true (like the Hunter Biden laptop story)‚ we always hear the same excuse: ‘We censored it based on what we knew at the time‚’” he wrote. But‚ according to Dillon‚ “This is not a defense of censorship. In fact‚ it's a knock-down argument against it.” Media Research Center poll data previously illustrated that censorship of the Hunter Biden scandal swayed the 2020 presidential election in then-candidate Joe Biden’s favor. Related: ‘A Knock-Down Argument’: Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon Calls Out Hypocritical COVID-19 Censorship Dillon explained further‚ “If knowledge changes over time‚ then the last thing we should ever do is pretend it doesn't by preemptively shutting down the debate.” He concluded‚ “If it's even possible that the ‘experts’ and authorities are wrong — and we know they often are — then dissent must not only be allowed‚ but encouraged.” The X post also included a clip of Dillon‚ responding to a question about censors’ objectivity during the 2023 congressional hearing.  In it‚ Dillon referred to censors’ supposed credibility as a “pretty good joke” and added‚ “In the whole fact-checking apparatus &;acirc;€Â¦ there’s unbelievable hubris in the whole project. You know‚ this idea‚ especially when we’re talking about medical information too‚ I often hear people going back say‚ ‘Well‚ it was based on what we knew at the time.’” Again‚ Dillon emphasized‚ this simply highlights that one’s knowledge can alter over time. He then stated the “knock-down argument” against censorship which he also wrote in his post. Indeed‚ America has a First Amendment to protect free speech and open debate. WHAT GAFFES&;#63; Networks OMIT Biden Claim of Uncle Being Eaten By Cannibals

WHAT GAFFES&;#63; Networks OMIT Biden Claim of Uncle Being Eaten By Cannibals

We regret to inform you that the Regime Media has done it again. None of the evening network newscasts covered President Joe Biden’s latest gaffe‚ wherein he claimed that his uncle was eaten by cannibals after crashing his military aircraft over Papua New Guinea during World War II while trying to attack former President Donald Trump. Below is the statement in its full context‚ as aired on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports on Wednesday‚ April 17th‚ 2024 (click &;quot;expand&;quot; to view transcript): JOE BIDEN: …and‚ when D-Day occurred‚ the next day‚ on Monday all four of my mother's brothers went down and volunteered to join the military. And four of them -- three of them made it. One was 4F- couldn't go. And‚ uh… Ambrose Finnegan- we called him Uncle Bosie- he was shot down. He was Army Air Corps. Before there was an Air Force. He flew single-engine planes. Reconnaissance flights over New Guinea.  He volunteered if someone couldn't make it. He got shot down in an area where there were a lot of cannibals. In New Guinea. At the time. They never recovered his body‚ but the government went back when I went down there and they checked and found parts of the plane and the like. And what I was thinking about when I was standing there was when Trump refused to go up to the memorial for veterans in Paris. And he said they were a bunch of suckers and losers. To me‚ that is such a disqualifying assertion made by a president. Suckers and losers. Guys who saved civilization in the 1940s. Suckers and losers. And I just wanted to go and- we have a tradition in our family that my grandfather started. When you visit a gravesite of a family member‚ it’s going to sound strange to you‚ but- you say three Hail Marys. That's what I was doing at the site. My grand- my uncle‚ Ambrose Finnegan‚ Uncle- Uncle Bosie‚ was a hell of a guy from what I- I never met him‚ obviously. But I just wanted to see where he was memorialized. The gaffe in and of itself is Biden Normal at this point‚ but was notable enough to warrant fact-checks by both Politifact (“highly unlikely”) and Snopes (“False”). Snopes cited the AP’s own verification‚ which in turn cited the DoD’s POW/MIA Accounting Agency:  According to the Pentagon’s Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency‚ Biden’s uncle‚ known by the family as “Bosie‚” died on May 14‚ 1944‚ while a passenger on an Army Air Forces plane that‚ “for unknown reasons‚” was forced to ditch in the Pacific Ocean off the northern coast of New Guinea. “Both engines failed at low altitude‚ and the aircraft’s nose hit the water hard‚” the agency states in its listing of Finnegan. “Three men failed to emerge from the sinking wreck and were lost in the crash.” In the face of such evidence the White House was left with little choice than to pretend Biden didn’t say what he said on national TV. White House spokesman Andrew Bates did not address the discrepancy between the agency’s records and Biden’s account when he issued a statement on the matter. “President Biden is proud of his uncle’s service in uniform‚“ Bates said‚ adding Finnegan ”lost his life when the military aircraft he was on crashed in the Pacific after taking off near New Guinea.” Biden “highlighted his uncle’s story as he made the case for honoring our ‘sacred commitment ... to equip those we send to war and take care of them and their families when they come home‚’ and as he reiterated that the last thing American veterans are is ‘suckers’ or ‘losers.’” None of this‚ or any mention whatsoever of a widely-debunked statement made by the President of the United States‚ made it to any of the three network evening newscasts. Even more galling is the realization‚ when viewing the video in its broader context‚ that poor old Uncle Bosie was just a narrative bridge on which Biden got to what he really wanted to do‚ which was to hit Trump on the equally dubious “suckers and losers”. Instead‚ viewers got an earful on such vital issues of the day as‚ for example‚ Caitlin Clark’s salary.   On the one hand you have media omissions of actual statements made by Joe Biden‚ and on the other‚ you have outright fabrications based on partial statements stripped of their context when uttered by Donald Trump‚ such as the routine “Trump called immigrants animals” whenever Trump addresses MS-13 or other violent criminal aliens such as the killers of Laken Riley‚ for example.  The title of “Regime Media” is well-earned here‚ and we note the media’s descent into terminal institutional corruption over just a few short cycles: going from “what about your gaffes&;#63;” to simply‚ “what gaffes&;#63;”

Woke medicine KILLS: 10 examples of how DEI is creating the next public health crisis

The left’s woke agenda is chock-full of phony public health crises – racism‚ climate change‚ inaccessible “gender-affirming care.” But there’s a real public health crisis on the horizon‚ and it goes by the name of diversity‚ equity‚ and inclusion. DEI‚ which Glenn Beck calls “a sick cancer‚” has “infiltrated our medical schools‚ our doctors‚ and our health care‚” and the results will be nothing short of devastating. “Do No Harm” – an organization founded on the principle of “protecting health care from the disastrous consequences of identity politics” – has revealed that “23 of America's top 25 medical schools now have anti-racism instruction as the core part of their curriculum.” And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Here are ten examples (although there are countless more) of how DEI is a festering blight on the medical field: 1. First-year medical students at UCLA were required to attend a lecture as part of their “mandatory course on structural racism.” The guest speaker who delivered the speech prayed to “Mama Earth” while she had students “get on their hands and knees” before “she led the students in chanting ‘free‚ free Palestine‚”’ according to the Washington Free Beacon. 2. In February of this year‚ a man named Dante King – “a guest faculty member of the University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine” – “delivered a lecture titled‚ ‘Diagnosing Whiteness and Anti-Blackness: White Psychopathology‚ Collective Psychosis‚ and Trauma in America.”’ Here’s just one quote from King’s lecture: The historical record has well documented white people's narcissistic personality disorder and insecurities‚ along with their internalized distortions‚ fear‚ and perversions about African people. In their relationship with the black race‚ whites are psychopaths‚ and their behavior represents an underlying biologically transmitted proclivity with roots deep in their evolutionary history. How many of you could see the proclivity that evolved deep within the evolutionary history of whiteness by show of hands&;#63; ... Some people are sitting here‚ &;quot;Oh no I don't want to raise my hand&;quot; – that's called denial. 3. “Top-ranked Harvard Medical School has activist courses like ‘Social Change and the Practice of Medicine‚’” in which “they’re teaching aspiring doctors how to be important advocates for social change.” 4. At George Washington University School of Medicine‚ students enroll in courses titled: “‘How to Talk Race‚ Power‚ and Privilege in Classroom and Clinical Settings” “Moving Beyond Bystanding … to Disrupting Racism” “Beyond the Binary: Navigating Pregnancy and Affirming Care for People with Diverse Gender Identities” “Confronting U.S. History: We Must End Racism to End Health Disparities” 5. At the Indiana University School of Medicine‚ “first-year students in basic anatomy classes are taught that gender is a social construct‚ that sex and gender fall along a continuum rather than being a binary‚” and that “man and woman gender types [are] oversimplifications.” 6. Upstate Medical University in Syracuse‚ New York‚ established a “diversity task force” that produced a lengthy report demanding that “health care professionals explicitly acknowledge that race and racism are the root of all these health disparities” and that students be trained in “bystander intervention for bias.” 7. Medical students at the University of Minnesota are required to take an oath pledging to “honor all indigenous ways of healing that have been historically marginalized by Western medicine” and fight “white supremacy‚ colonialism‚ [and] the gender binary.” 8. In 2022‚ the president of the American Association of Medical Colleges‚ David J. Skorton‚ said: “We believe this topic [diversity‚ equity‚ and inclusion] deserves just as much attention from learners and educators at every stage of their careers as the latest scientific breakthroughs.” The AAMC‚ which “forms the accrediting body for U.S. medical schools in the U.S.‚” also released a DEI competencies report in 2022 making clear that the institution’s “unquestioning devotion to DEI” would “govern admission standards in medical schools.” The organization even went as far as “[discouraging] schools from using the MCAT admissions test as a way to select medical students‚” leading to “dozens of schools [making] the MCAT optional.” 9. The University of Pennsylvania‚ an Ivy League school‚ “[guarantees] admission‚ with no MCAT required‚ for black students who meet GPA and internship requirements.” These students also “get a 50% discount on tuition.” 10. The majority of medical school applications now “have DEI questions‚” including questions regarding “dedication to DEI” and “DEI-related activism‚” as part of the screening process. Further‚ the MCAT itself has been altered to “create more equity in admissions.” “One-quarter of the questions are now about social issues and psychology.” Even the United States Medical Licensure Examination‚ which allows medical school graduates to practice medicine‚ has been adapted to be “a pass/fail exam.” “The one-step exam is usually the biggest decider in selecting applicants for residency in programs‚ but now numbered scores are not allowed because lower average scores are keeping minorities from getting into competitive residencies‚” says Glenn. While that concludes our ten examples‚ this doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of how the malignant cancer that is DEI is infecting the medical industry. For a deeper dive into the subject‚ watch Glenn’s Wednesday Night Special below. Reporter confronts KJP with perfect question after Biden suggests cannibals ate his uncle — and her response says it all

Reporters aren't buying the excuse that White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre offered for President Joe Biden's latest gaffe.On Wednesday‚ Biden visited the Veteran's War Memorial in Scranton‚ Pennsylvania‚ one of the locations where his uncle‚ World War II veteran Ambrose J. Finnegan Jr.‚ is memorialized. Afterward‚ Biden spoke about his uncle‚ whose body was never recovered after a plane crash in the Pacific Ocean. He said:Ambrose Finnegan — we called him “Uncle Bosie” — he was shot down. He was Army Air Corps before there was an Air Force. He flew single-engine planes‚ reconnaissance flights over New Guinea. He had volunteered because someone couldn’t make it. He got shot down in an area where there were a lot of cannibals in New Guinea at the time.They never recovered his body. But the government went back‚ when I went down there‚ and they checked and found some parts of the plane and the like.Biden's story‚ however‚ is mostly untrue.The plane on which Biden's uncle was flying on May 14‚ 1944‚ wasn't shot down‚ nor was he the victim of cannibals. According to the Pentagon‚ both engines in the plane failed‚ which caused a crash landing into the ocean. Of the four people on the plane‚ only one survived; the other three were never recovered.On Thursday‚ reporters asked Jean-Pierre if she had a &;quot;cannibal tab&;quot; in her press binder. At first‚ she acted as if she didn't know what the press was asking about — she said‚ &;quot;There is no 'cannibal' tab. What are you talking about&;#63;&;quot; — before addressing the incident.But then she refused to address directly the fact that what Biden said is not true. She softened the blow by noting that Biden is &;quot;incredibly proud&;quot; of his uncle‚ and visiting the memorial was &;quot;incredibly emotional and important to him.&;quot; And‚ of course‚ she implicitly slammed Donald Trump‚ referring to comments the former president allegedly made about veterans who die in war.&;quot;As he reiterated‚ the last thing American veterans are are 'suckers' or 'losers‚' and he wanted to make that clear‚&;quot; Jean-Pierre said.&;quot;By embellishing the story&;#63;&;quot; a reporter fired back.&;quot;Look‚ I don't have anything beyond what I just laid out‚&;quot; Jean-Pierre responded‚ never answering the question.And with that‚ the seven-minute press gaggle aboard Air Force One concluded. — (@) Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Middle school female athletes reportedly refuse to compete against biological male at track meet‚ protest in shot put ring

A handful of middle school female athletes reportedly refused to compete against a biological male at a West Virginia track and field championship Thursday — and cellphone video showed them staging a protest in the shot put ring.What are the details&;#63;The event was the 2024 Harrison County Middle School Championships at Liberty High School‚ OutKick reported.The outlet said seven schools took part: Bridgeport‚ Heritage Christian‚ Notre Dame‚ South Harrison‚ Lincoln‚ Mountaineer (Clarksburg)‚ and Washington Irving.Several female shot put participants from Lincoln were seen on cellphone video protesting the inclusion of a transgender athlete in the competition‚ OutKick said.Specifically‚ the girls from Lincoln were seen one by one stepping into the shot put ring and then quickly stepping out of the ring without making attempts. — (@) While the video in Gaines' post appears to show six separate protests by Lincoln in the shot put ring‚ AthleticNet indicates that five Lincoln girls posted &;quot;ND&;quot; (no distance) in the finals. Gaines also writes that five girls refused to participate.While OutKick doesn't name the transgender athlete upon whom the reported protest focused‚ Gaines did so in her post‚ calling attention to Becky Pepper-Jackson‚ who has been in the news quite a bit lately.Blaze News reported that the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday ruled in a 2–1 decision that a West Virginia law requiring every student athlete to participate in accordance with their biological sex violates the Title IX rights of Pepper-Jackson.Pepper-Jackson — a biological male — has been living as a female and taking puberty blockers for years.How did Pepper-Jackson fare at the meet&;#63;According to AthleticNet‚ Pepper-Jackson of Bridgeport won the shot put final with a toss of 32 feet‚ 9 inches‚ easily besting the second-place finisher by more than three feet. AtheticNet added that Pepper-Jackson placed second in the discus finals‚ while Ava McGill of Lincoln won it. McGill was not among the Lincoln girls who posted &;quot;ND&;quot; results in the shot put finals‚ according to stats. What's more‚ AthleticNet indicates that only one of the Lincoln girls who posted a &;quot;ND&;quot; result in the shot put finals repeated that for the discus finals — and one of the Lincoln girls who took part in the shot put protest posted a result in the discus finals‚ placing seventh. Biden's final Title IX regulations will bow to gender ideologues' wishes nationwide

Biden's final Title IX regulations will bow to gender ideologues' wishes nationwide

The Biden administration has released its final Title IX regulations‚ effectively establishing &;quot;gender identity&;quot; as a protected class and forcing around 17‚600 school districts‚ 5‚000 post-secondary institutions‚ and various charter schools‚ for-profit schools‚ libraries‚ and museums across the nation to indulge the reality-defying identifications of the LGBT ideologues in their midst — at the expense of the very cohort the civil rights law was initially intended to help. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 has long prohibited discrimination on the basis of sex in federally funded education programs or activities. According to the late Sen. Birch Bayh of Indiana‚ the Democrat who formally introduced Title IX to Congress‚ the idea behind the legislation was largely to &;quot;provide for the women of America something that is rightfully theirs — an equal chance to attend the schools of their choice‚ to develop the skills they want‚ and to apply those skills with the knowledge that they will have a fair chance to secure the jobs of their choice with equal pay for equal work.&;quot; Whereas in Bayh's day‚ Americans understood there were only two sexes requiring equal protection‚ Democrats today have evidently taken the philosophical position that sex is a social construct. The Biden administration — which has proven incapable of defining &;quot;woman&;quot; — has transmogrified Title IX in an apparent effort to systematically accommodate this misunderstanding. The new rules announced by the Department of Education Friday clarify that sex discrimination now includes sexual preferences and &;quot;gender identity&;quot; and further clarify &;quot;that sex-based harassment includes harassment on these bases.&;quot; The regulations state that a school &;quot;must not separate or treat people differently based on sex in a manner that subjects them to more than de minimis harm‚&;quot; stressing that preventing &;quot;someone from participating in school (including in sex-separate activities) consistent with their gender identity causes that person more than de minimis harm.&;quot; Such perceived harm would be grounds for litigation. The corresponding rule‚ Section 106.31(a)(2)‚ not only applies to dress and grooming codes but to locker rooms and restrooms as well. Federally funded institutions that refuse to allow men into girls' lavatories could face legal action under the revised scheme. The Biden administration did not apply this understanding to sex-separate living facilities and sex-segregated sports teams. The DOE did‚ however‚ note that it &;quot;intends to issue a separate final rule to address Title IX's application to sex-separate athletic teams.&;quot; DOE Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a statement‚ &;quot;These final regulations build on the legacy of Title IX by clarifying that all our nation’s students can access schools that are safe‚ welcoming‚ and respect their rights.&;quot; Former Trump Education Secretary Betsy DeVos told the National Review‚ &;quot;I never thought I'd see the day where Title IX would be used to harm women‚ but sadly‚ that day has come.&;quot; &;quot;The Biden Administration's radical rewrite of Title IX guts the half century of protections and opportunities for women and callously replaces them with radical gender theory‚ as Biden's far-left political base demanded. This regulation is an assault on women and girls‚&;quot; added DeVos. All-American swim star Riley Gaines‚ presently suing the National Collegiate Athletics Association for allowing transvestites to invade women's sports and locker rooms‚ tweeted‚ &;quot;The Biden Admin has just officially abolished Title IX as we knew it. Now‚ sex = gender identity.&;quot; Gaines suggested further the new rewrite means &;quot;men can take academic AND athletic scholarships from women&;quot;; &;quot;men will have FULL access to bathrooms‚ locker rooms‚ etc&;quot;; &;quot;students and faculty MUST compel their speech by requiring the use of preferred pronouns&;quot;; and &;quot;if the guidelines above are ignored or even questioned‚ then YOU can be charged with harassment.&;quot; Megyn Kelly said‚ &;quot;These regs are a nuclear level attack on women's rights and men's due process rights. JOE BIDEN MUST GO.&;quot; DO NOT EVER LET ANY DEMOCRAT TELL YOU THEY CARE ABOUT WOMEN\u2019S RIGHTS EVER AGAIN IF THEY DO NOT STAND UP TO THIS ABOMINATION OF A TITLE IX REVISION.\n These regs are a nuclear level attack on women\u2019s rights and men\u2019s due process rights. JOE BIDEN MUST GO. — (@) Kelly added in a subsequent post that not only will girls be forced to share locker rooms &;quot;with aroused men who get off on posing as women‚&;quot; but a young man &;quot;will be stripped of his due process rights if he is accused by anyone on campus of sexual misconduct.&;quot; Kelly was referencing the Biden administration's elimination of the sexual assault due process rules put in place by the Trump administration. Fox News Digital indicated that colleges will no longer have to hold live hearings and allow students to cross-examine one another through representatives. Kim Shasby Jones‚ head of the Independent Council on Women's Sports‚ said‚ &;quot;My heart breaks. Women are facing the ultimate betrayal by the Biden administration. We can't protect‚ defend‚ or even advocate for what can't be defined. Women - 51% of the population - zero recognition under federal law. Title IX - now a weapon to remove women's rights.&;quot; Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here&;#33;

Grammy Award-winning Christian singer and 'American Idol' alum Mandisa dies at 47: 'Her kindness was epic'

Christian music artist and &;quot;American Idol&;quot; alum Mandisa has died‚ according to multiple reports. Mandisa Lynn Hundley was 47. Mandisa reportedly died on Thursday at her home in Nashville‚ Tennessee. The cause of death is not yet known. Mandisa's official Facebook page confirmed the death in a post: &;quot;Mandisa was a voice of encouragement and truth to people facing life’s challenges all around the world.&;quot;The Facebook page shared Mandisa's song titled &;quot;You Wouldn't Cry (Andrew S Song)‚&;quot; which has the lyrics: &;quot;I'm already home. You've got to lay it down 'cause Jesus holds me now — and I am not alone.&;quot;David Pierce – chief media officer at Christian radio station K-Love – said of the talented singer: Mandisa loved Jesus‚ and she used her unusually extensive platform to talk about Him at every turn. Her kindness was epic‚ her smile electric‚ her voice massive‚ but it was no match for the size of her heart. Mandisa struggled‚ and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us‚ which helped us talk about our own struggles. Mandisa’s struggles are over. She is with the God she sang about now. While we are saddened‚ Mandisa is home. We’re praying for Mandisa’s family and friends and ask you to join us.In her book‚ &;quot;Out of the Dark: My Journey through the Shadows to Find God's Joy‚&;quot; Mandisa chronicled her challenges with depression but always trusted God for healing. &;quot;I think so many people have struggled. Even people that we see in the Bible. The way that I see God address those people‚ is not by saying‚ I'm so ashamed of you‚ I'm so disappointed‚ but with love and with grace. I think that's how we should respond to each other as well‚&;quot; she wrote‚ according to Christian radio station CHVN.The California native studied vocal jazz at American River College in Sacramento and music at Fisk University in Tennessee.Mandisa garnered a national spotlight when she auditioned for Season 5 of “American Idol” in 2005. Mandisa won over fans when she gracefully forgave &;quot;American Idol&;quot; judge Simon Cowell after he made derogatory comments about her weight. &;quot;You hurt me. It was painful. It really was‚&;quot; Mandisa told Cowell. &;quot;But I want you to know that I have forgiven you. You don’t need someone to apologize in order to forgive somebody. I figured that if Jesus could die so that all of my sins could be forgiven‚ I could certainly extend that same grace to you.&;quot;After becoming a star on &;quot;American Idol&;quot; by finishing in the top 10‚ Mandisa released her first album‚ &;quot;True Beauty‚&;quot; in 2007. The album debuted at No. 43 on the Billboard 200 and at the top of Billboard’s Christian album chart – the first for a female artist. Her first single‚ &;quot;Only the World‚&;quot; debuted at No. 2 on the hot singles chart and hit No. 1 in its second week.Her 2013 album‚ “Overcomer‚” won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.Mandisa released six studio albums‚ and her last one was released in 2017. The platinum-selling singer collaborated with TobyMac‚ Kirk Franklin‚ Jordan Feliz‚ Matthew West‚ Michael W. Smith‚ and Jon Reddick. Contrary to Salt Lake Tribune 'fact-check‚' photos and videos appear to show multiple students dressed and behaving as furries at Utah school

Earlier this week‚ a video went viral on social media‚ showing students protesting &;quot;furries&;quot; — people who identify as animals‚ wear animal-like apparel‚ and mimic animal behaviors — at Mt. Nebo Middle School in Payson‚ Utah‚ about an hour south of Salt Lake City‚ as Blaze News previously reported. Despite the number of students participating in the protest and the availability of evidence supporting their claims‚ the Salt Lake Tribune almost immediately issued a &;quot;fact-check&;quot; insisting that the furry allegations were likely false. Blaze News spoke with multiple Mt. Nebo parents and students‚ including Kendalyn‚ the 13-year-old girl who orchestrated the walkout and the attending paper and online petitions. Through our conversations‚ Blaze News found evidence of students referring to one another as &;quot;furries‚&;quot; wearing animal clothing and masks in defiance of understood district dress code‚ and crawling about and growling in a manner that is likely to bother others. In other words‚ we have ample evidence that the allegations demand a good-faith investigation from the media‚ an investigation that the Salt Lake Tribune has thus far opted not to conduct. 'Just sprayed ... in the f***ing eyes': Clear evidence of a problem Blaze News received nearly a dozen pieces of photographic and video evidence showing some students in animal outfits causing a disturbance and perhaps even physical harm. A former school employee‚ Katie Ogren‚ as well a sixth-grade student there confirmed to Blaze News that each of the following videos and photos‚ given to us by a separate source‚ were taken of Mt. Nebo students on school grounds. The first video is the most damning. In addition to demonstrating that kids in animal masks regularly gather on school property‚ the video shows one student apparently bragging: &;quot;I just sprayed [inaudible] in the f***ing eyes&;#33;&;quot; Several demonstrators at the walkout reported that furries have occasionally sprayed unsuspecting students with Febreze. Kendalyn told Blaze News that her friend was victimized by such an attack in the girls' restroom‚ outside the purview of school surveillance cameras. pic.twitter.com/fPvmjPTOdr— Cortney Weil 🇺🇲 (@cortneyweil) April 19‚ 2024 Other videos show kids flailing about on all fours while screaming or barking. In one video‚ one female student can even be heard exclaiming near a group of girls in animal masks: &;quot;It's a furry in action&;#33;&;quot; pic.twitter.com/sLeJ4F0Zne— Cortney Weil 🇺🇲 (@cortneyweil) April 19‚ 2024 pic.twitter.com/DgOsjKJKC0— Cortney Weil 🇺🇲 (@cortneyweil) April 19‚ 2024 pic.twitter.com/0Tl4caS82u— Cortney Weil 🇺🇲 (@cortneyweil) April 19‚ 2024 A small sampling of these photos also show kids routinely donning animal-like clothing and accessories. Though no photos show an animal tail‚ Ogren told Blaze News she found a tail lying on the ground the day she resigned from the district. &;quot;One furry lost their tail in the lunch room‚&;quot; she said. &;quot;And I saw it laying there‚ and I was like‚ 'Oh‚ they're gonna be sad that's gone&;#33;'&;quot; Administrators plead for 'understanding ... and tolerance' As strange as some of the Mt. Nebo student behavior and clothing has been‚ the response from adults in the building is perhaps more alarming. Various students at the walkout claimed to have reported to teachers and administrators incidents of furries barking‚ hissing‚ preening‚ and even biting‚ only to be either ignored or even disciplined for lodging complaints. &;quot;If we try to do something to get away from [the furries]‚ or we‚ like‚ tell them to stop‚ we get suspended‚&;quot; one boy told reporter Adam Bartholomew of Utah Main Street Media. In late February or early March‚ Katie Ogren — who is not a licensed teacher but who‚ until recently‚ worked with struggling Mt. Nebo students as a &;quot;success coach&;quot; — received a report from a frustrated girl who claimed to have been bitten by a furry after she repeatedly asked the furry to leave her alone. When the girl reported the alleged bite to another teacher‚ the other teacher supposedly advised her to exercise greater tolerance. &;quot;This teacher said we just have to be nice‚&;quot; the girl claimed‚ Ogren told Blaze News. &;quot;We can't discriminate.&;quot; Though Blaze News could not independently verify this incident‚ we did receive a copy of a memo sent to Mt. Nebo parents on Tuesday‚ the day before the walkout‚ that expressed a similar idea. It seems to ask students to demonstrate &;quot;curiosity‚ understanding‚ patience and tolerance&;quot; toward &;quot;a small group of students at our school‚&;quot; almost certainly a veiled reference to the furries. The memo also issued a blanket warning against violating dress code and creating a hostile learning environment. Students at the walkout were frustrated that this warning was sent to all students rather than those like the furries who have allegedly disregarded those policies. &;quot;They won't talk to [the furries] directly‚&;quot; one girl said. &;quot;They just sent out an email and have the school‚ like‚ tell everyone.&;quot; 'Just what kids this age do': Salt Lake Tribune takes district at its word At about 9:30 p.m. on the day of the Mt. Nebo walkout‚ at about the time Blaze News was speaking with walkout organizer Kendalyn and her parents‚ all three of whom reportedly attended the demonstration‚ the Salt Lake Tribune was publishing its &;quot;fact-check&;quot; article: &;quot;Fact check: Nebo School District responds to claims about student protest over 'furries.'&;quot; The article‚ written by Tribune education reporter Michael Lee‚ appears to make little attempt to understand the nature or veracity of the furry allegations. Lee did not mention speaking with Mt. Nebo students or other members of the community‚ even though anywhere between 60 and 150 students attended the walkout despite a looming threat of suspension. Instead‚ Lee hinted that the apparent furry clique at Mt. Nebo is little more than a boogeyman created by &;quot;conservative social media circles&;quot; to foment &;quot;right-wing outrage.&;quot; &;quot;[The] video and claims had been picked up and spread by Libs of TikTok‚ an account on X that shares anti-LGBTQ posts‚&;quot; Lee fretted. He also pointedly noted that Cari Bartholomew‚ the wife of the Utah Main Street Media reporter who documented the walkout and spoke with students and parents for over an hour‚ &;quot;is running as a far-right candidate for the Utah State Board of Education in District 13.&;quot; In fact‚ the only source for Lee's self-identifying fact-check appears to be Seth Sorenson‚ described in the article as a spokesperson for Nebo School District. Sorenson's email signature provides two much more colorful job titles for him: Communications &; Community Relations Administrator and Nebo Education Foundation Executive Director. Sorenson emphatically denied the existence of a furry group at Mt. Nebo‚ dismissing the accusations as young kids occasionally playing dress-up. &;quot;You’ll have students that show up with headbands and giant bows; you’ll have students that show up dressed as their favorite basketball player or baseball player‚&;quot; he told Lee. &;quot;That’s just what kids this age do.&;quot; Sorenson also blamed at least some of the community outrage on parents who‚ he claimed‚ misunderstood a recent school memo. That memo‚ allegedly issued the week before the walkout‚ reportedly called for greater respect and tolerance among the diverse Mt. Nebo student body. Some parents and students mistakenly believed that the school was &;quot;taking the side of a single group‚ saying‚ 'We want you to be kind to this group‚ but they don’t have to be kind to anyone else‚'&;quot; Sorenson said. Lee admitted in the article that his outlet did not independently view the school memo‚ claiming it was not &;quot;immediately&;quot; available since &;quot;Sorenson said the campus and its staff had since dismissed for the day and he didn’t have a copy on hand.&;quot; Perhaps Lee should have insisted on being furnished with a copy‚ since Sorenson appears to have conflated two different messages‚ only one of which was directly given to parents. According to three Mt. Nebo parents‚ the school did not send a &;quot;direct message&;quot; about the issue &;quot;to families last week‚&;quot; as Lee asserted in the article. The only memo regarding respect and kindness parents have received lately is the &;quot;understanding ... and tolerance&;quot; memo discussed in the section above. That email‚ sent on Tuesday and not last week‚ does reference another message of unknown content that Mt. Nebo teachers were told to relay to &;quot;their 6th period classes&;quot; on April 15. School administrators‚ it seems‚ entrusted middle-school students to pass along the message to their worried parents. Blaze News reached out to Lee for comment but did not receive a response. We also reached out to the managing editors at the Tribune to find out whether there had been any editorial oversight on Lee's thinly sourced &;quot;fact-check.&;quot; One editor responded and claimed that our inquiries had been passed along to executive editor Lauren Gustus. That was the last — and in fact the only — communication we received from the Tribune. No 'masks or animal costumes': District denies furries' existence at Mt. Nebo Blaze News also had several email interactions with Seth Sorenson‚ the representative of Nebo School District who likewise spoke with Lee. During these interactions‚ Sorenson repeatedly denied the existence of a furry problem at Mt. Nebo and even suggested that media outlets such as Blaze News had misled the public in their reporting. In his initial email to us‚ Sorenson unequivocally stated that no Mt. Nebo student had worn &;quot;masks or animal costumes&;quot; at school or engaged in the frightening animal-like behaviors. &;quot;There have been no incidents of biting‚ licking‚ costumes‚ or animal behavior at Mt. Nebo Middle School. These rumors are unfounded and are not occurring in our schools‚&;quot; he insisted. When Blaze News sent Sorenson an image and video that seemed to contradict some of his assertions‚ he became even more indignant. &;quot;None of the video or photographic evidence we have seen shows students dressing up as animals‚ or acting like animals‚ as that would not be allowed‚&;quot; he replied. &;quot;We can not (sic) even confirm that these videos are of our students and in our schools.&;quot; Blaze News then sent a copy of the video that apparently captures a student boasting about spraying someone with chemicals. Sorenson first claimed he could not open the video. We sent along yet another copy of the video‚ but he made no reply. The last missive we did receive from Sorenson refused to acknowledge the existence of a furry problem and instead took aim at our previous coverage of the walkout: &;quot;Several [news outlets] have even written articles debunking the information your group presented as fact in your group's previous article‚ or simply decided that there really was no story and did not do anything on it‚&;quot; he wrote. He did not mention the names of any such outlets. &;quot;Journalism requires investigation and research‚&;quot; he continued. &;quot;Just as a note‚ those media outlets who have taken the time to come to our schools and visit with the administration have seen that there is absolutely no validity to the wild accusations being thrown about online.&;quot; Kelly Taylor‚ the principal of Mt. Nebo‚ did not respond to Blaze News' request for comment. There is no indication that the Salt Lake Tribune or any other outlet actually spoke with the parents who were raising the complaints to determine whether they had any evidence to support their claims — evidence that the parents were readily able to provide to Blaze News. 'We're standing up': Demonstrators remain strong Kendalyn‚ Katie Ogren‚ and others in the Payson‚ Utah‚ community who tell Blaze News they are fed up with furries and other disciplinary issues at Mt. Nebo have not been deterred by the reports from the district or the Salt Lake Tribune. If anything‚ they feel more compelled to speak out in the hopes of protecting students who just want to go to school without fear of torment. Ogren‚ who attended the walkout even though she resigned from the district last week‚ claimed that for too long‚ victimized students have been trapped in a no-win situation. &;quot;It's this double standard‚ I believe‚ that if you don't have proof‚ nothing happened‚ nothing happened without proof‚&;quot; she said. &;quot;However‚ if they pull out their phone and record something‚ then they get in trouble for recording it.&;quot; &;quot;Because [they] are not a minority‚ [their] voices cannot be heard.&;quot; Kendalyn‚ who told Blaze News that school administrators are too &;quot;scared&;quot; to address the furry problem‚ feels emboldened by all the support she and her classmates have received from the community. &;quot;I know I've got all these people here to support me‚&;quot; Kendalyn stated at the walkout she put into motion. &;quot;I've got the moms. I've got the city to support me. I have my parents to support me‚ and if we need to‚ I'll go to another school. &;quot;But we're standing up for what we believe in.&;quot; Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox.
