A record number of Chinese nationals crossed the southern border into the United States last month‚ breaking the previous record that was set just a month prior. A full 4‚797 Chinese nationals were encountered on America’s southwestern border with Mexico in November 2023‚ according to figures from Customs and Border Patrol (CBP). It’s the third consecutive month that a record was set for monthly encounters with Chinese at the border‚ with 4‚261 encountered in October and 4‚042 encountered in September. There were also 7‚245 nationwide encounters with Chinese nationals by immigration officials throughout the whole country in November‚ an increase from 7‚164 in October. The monthly figures mark a shocking increase from fiscal years 2021 and 2022‚ when there were just 450 and 2‚176 southwest border encounters with Chinese nationals‚ respectively. The number surged to 24‚314 in FY 2023 and has already climbed past 9‚000 in just the first two months of FY 2024. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rep. Illegal border crossings have surged under the Biden administration‚ with an estimated 1.7 million illegal immigrant gotaways being recorded since Biden took office in 2021. There were 415‚000 total reported gotaways for 2018‚ 2019‚ and 2020 under the Trump administration. The number of illegal border crossings jumped to a record high in fiscal year 2022. The record-high increases in illegal immigration have strained major cities like Chicago and New York‚ which have struggled to house foreign nationals. Chicago passed a measure earlier this year to provide $51 million in funding to house and feed migrants‚ while 50 places of worship in New York City are now being used to accommodate foreign nationals. Multiple public opinion surveys indicate that voters disapprove of Biden’s handling of the border. A Fox News poll‚ which surveyed more than 1‚000 registered voters in late June‚ found that 62% of respondents disapproved of Biden’s handling of the border‚ while only 35% approve.

The Biden administration is threatening to sue Texas over a new state law that makes it a crime to illegally enter the state‚ giving state officials more power to take steps to secure the border amid the ongoing illegal immigration crisis.  In a letter sent on Thursday to Republican Governor Greg Abbott‚ the Justice Department accused Texas of interfering with the federal government by moving to enforce immigration law. Texas Republicans have said the law is necessary as illegal crossings have skyrocketed and deportations have slowed under President Joe Biden.  DOJ official Brian M. Boynton told Abbott that “the Department of Justice intends to bring a lawsuit to enforce the supremacy of federal law and to enjoin the operation of SB 4‚” adding that “the United States will pursue all appropriate legal remedies to ensure that Texas does not interfere with the functions of the federal government.” Boynton said that Texas had until next Wednesday to indicate that Texas would not enforce the law.  The law‚ which will authorize local police to handle immigration enforcement by making it a state misdemeanor to cross the Texas-Mexico border illegally‚ was first sent to Abbott by Texas Republicans in November. The law‚ which Abbott approved earlier this month‚ will allow Texas to deport those who cross into the state back to Mexico‚ which would be a direct challenge to the catch-and-release policy currently practiced by the Biden administration.  The DOJ told Abbott in the letter that only the federal government should be allowed to remove foreign nationals who have entered the U.S.  “Indeed‚ the Supreme Court has confirmed that ‘the removal process’ must be ‘entrusted to the discretion of the Federal Government’ because a ‘decision on removability’ touches ‘on foreign relations and must be made with one voice‚’” the letter said. President Biden’s deliberate and dangerous inaction at our southern border has left Texas to fend for itself‚” she said.  The Texas law is also facing a challenge from liberal legal groups who claim that it is discriminatory. At the same time‚ illegal crossings surged to a new November record with no signs of slowing down into December.  The Biden previously sued Texas over a move from Abbott to place water barriers in the Rio Grande to deter illegal immigration.

This cat won’t let anything get between him and his food — not even a huge snowbank! A pet parent on YouTube managed to capture some hilarious footage of her kitty‚ Plume‚ bursting through a pile of snow in order to get to his dinner. After a massive blizzard in Quebec‚ Canada‚ the cat mom filmed herself calling the feline to come back inside. She got his attention by shaking his food bowl in the doorway. Unfortunately‚ the storm had left a couple feet of snow stacked in front of the entrance. However‚ Plume the cat didn’t hesitate: he jumped right through the snowbank and into the house! His reaction was too funny when he found himself indoors again. The poor kitty looked very confused and cold!
