Eight police officers involved in the fatal shooting of Jayland Walker in Ohio last year were reportedly cleared of all charges on Tuesday‚ according to an internal investigation from the Akron Police Department. “In my opinion‚ the use of deadly force was in compliance with the policies of the City of Akron Police Department‚” Chief Steve Mylett said in an executive summary of the investigation. Police shot and killed Walker on June 27‚ 2022‚ after pursuing him in a car that had been involved in a crime the previous day. After refusing to stop‚ speeding through a residential neighborhood‚ and shooting at officers‚ Walker jumped out of the car in motion at a barricade and fled the scene on foot. Although he did not have the gun with him as he ran‚ Mylett said the video showed Walker reaching for something at his waist and turning as he ran‚ prompting the police to fire. A state investigation later found Walker had fired a gun out of his car window while attempting to escape. Police said they fired up to 60 bullets at Walker after he jumped out of the moving vehicle and shot at the officers. The Beacon Journal obtained an investigative worksheet from the medical examiner’s office‚ which reported officers shot Walker in the face‚ torso‚ and upper legs. The report and video from the crime scene confirmed that Walker had a handgun in his silver Buick. The Akron Fraternal Order of Police said in a statement that traffic cameras had captured a muzzle flash from Walker’s car and that a shell casing had been found at the same location. “I found that the facts and circumstances of this tragic shooting show that the officers had an objectively reasonable belief that Mr. Walker was armed and by his conduct presented an imminent risk of serious bodily injury or death to them and/or their fellow officers‚” Mylett said. The eight police officers were reportedly placed on administrative leave but later returned to regular duty‚ according to The Akron Beacon Journal. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation conducted a criminal investigation into the shooting at the request of Mylett. The bureau reportedly presented its investigation to a special grand jury‚ which declined to indict the officers for any criminal offenses. Akron city officials declined to comment further on the internal investigation‚ pointing to a pending federal lawsuit filed by Walker’s family. The family is suing the city for at least $45 million in damages — a million dollars per each bullet that struck Walker‚ the family reportedly stated. According to local media‚ the lawsuit alleges excessive force‚ supervisory liability‚ and municipal liability and claims that Walker’s constitutional rights were violated. In addition to seeking compensatory and punitive damages‚ attorney fees‚ and costs‚ the lawsuit also seeks “equitable relief‚ including‚ without limitation‚ that defendant city of Akron be made to adopt an appropriate policy to prevent future instances of the type of misconduct.” Bobby DiCello‚ the Walker family’s attorney‚ released the following statement about the department’s conclusion of the investigation‚ according to local media. “Everyone should be encouraged to read what the Chief of Police wrote. He said Jayland’s shooting ‘was in compliance with the policies of the Akron Police Department.’ That says it all‚”  DiCello said. “While not unexpected‚ it is exactly this position that makes it critical for us to continue the lawsuit on behalf of Jayland Walker’s family. In fact‚ it is exactly because of this position‚ that we look forward to moving this case further through our justice system.“

The altar contained pastel pink and blue coffins bearing crosses‚ candles‚ garlands‚ small angel statues‚ and a vase with an RIP sign holding dark red liquid. One of the coffins reads “RIP b***h.” One of the angel statues reads‚ “Good Girls Go 2 Heaven.” A neon cross is lit up under the church’s crucifix. Other parts of the music video show Carpenter killing a man who took a picture up her skirt‚ as well as men killing each other as they apparently fight over Carpenter. After the music video came out‚ the Brooklyn Diocese said in a November 2 statement that Bishop Robert Brennan “is appalled at what was filmed at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Brooklyn‚” Catholic News Agency reported. “The parish did not follow diocesan policy regarding the filming on Church property‚ which includes a review of the scenes and script‚” the diocese added. The diocese also said the parish claimed the music video production company “failed to accurately represent the video content.” Catholic churches usually house consecrated communion hosts‚ which the Catholic Church holds are the real material presence of Jesus‚ in a tabernacle on the altar. In the letter posted on FB‚ Gigantiello also assured the parish that he had removed the blessed sacrament from the church the day before the filming of the provocative music video.

The model for such counterinsurgency tactics is the British counterinsurgency against Communist revolutionaries in Malaya from 1948-1960. By the time that counterinsurgency began‚ British forces had been in the country for a century. According to historian Andrew Roberts and General David Petraeus in their new book‚ “Conflict‚” the Malayan campaign was a mixture of stick and carrot: “Providing people with electricity‚ drinking water‚ schools‚ clinics and property rights proved a powerful disincentive for them to support Maoism‚ but the heady enticement of security had a dialectical partner: firm discipline for those who disobeyed.” The British leadership also knew that the strategy would take time: The general in charge of the operation said he would “shoot the bastard who says this Emergency is over.” But the British did win. Israel can secure its future too — but only if it takes the time and effort necessary to do so. This means ignoring the foolishness of those who want a quick ending to a long struggle.  The first step in that struggle is destroying Hamas‚ as Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has made clear. Hamas must be destroyed because the terrorist group cannot be reformed. Hamas apparently just transferred control of the entire Bibis family — including a four-year-old and a ten-month-old — to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine‚ another terrorist group. Hamas military leader Yahya Sinwar apparently appeared personally to the hostages in the tunnels to show them his power. One hostage was forced to write a ridiculous letter about how Hamas had treated her daughter “like a queen” while in captivity. Hamas is evil‚ full stop. This is why early calls for Israel to stop its operations against Hamas aren’t just foolish — they’re dangerous. When Bernie Sanders jabbers about Israel’s cruelty toward civilians‚ he isn’t protecting civilians; he’s making their lives more dangerous‚ since‚ if he had his way‚ they would end up under Hamas’ tender protections. Large swaths of the Democratic Party seem determined to prevent Israel from doing what they need to do to actually secure their future.  This is why Senator Chris Murphy is calling for conditions on aid to Israel — which would be fine‚ except that the conditions are things like “compliance with international law‚” a vague definition that leaves open the possibility of withdrawing aid based on Israel’s current Gaza action. On Friday‚ President Biden said conditioning aid is a “worthwhile thought”; yesterday‚ National Security Advisor spokesperson John Kirby wouldn’t rule it out. This is ridiculous. It’s also foolish for people to treat the “two-state solution” as though that idiotic nostrum represents a true solution. It doesn’t. It‚ instead‚ holds out the hope that the more pressure that is applied to Israel — the more death brought to Israel’s citizenry by terrorists — the more Israel will concede to those terrorists. President Biden has been more stalwart than I would have expected‚ but his language on this matter is insipid. He tweeted‚ “A two-state solution is the only way to guarantee the long-term security of both the Israeli and the Palestinian people.
