Leftist Meltdown at Oakland City Council Over Hamas ‘Terrorist’ Label Is Sign of Things to Come

An Oakland City Council hearing revealed where left-wing views of justice lead‚ when the council debated a resolution Monday night to call for a cease-fire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Deep blue‚ out-of-touch cities in the San Francisco Bay Area often like to play United Nations‚ so that’s hardly news. What created a firestorm on social media is what happened after a line calling Hamas a “terrorist” organization was offered to the resolution. All hell broke loose. For hours‚ speaker after speaker condemned the label. (The resolution passed‚ but without the amendments‚ which were defeated.) Watch the video for yourself. It speaks volumes about unfiltered left-wing politics. WATCH: Last night's #Oakland City Council meeting was disturbing. The council chambers were plagued for hours with support for terrorists‚ #antisemitism‚ and denial of the October 7th attacks. The Jewish community in the Bay Area stands strong against hate‚ and we call on our… pic.twitter.com/9cbHcGFMAw— JCRC Bay Area (@SFJCRC) November 28‚ 2023 “The notion that this was a massacre of Jews is a fabricated narrative. Many of those killed on Oct. 7‚ including children‚ were killed by the IDF‚” said one woman‚ referring to the Israel Defense Forces. Another speaker said that condemning Hamas is the product of “old white supremacists.” Gen Z leftists showed up in force. A young woman wearing a face mask said that “calling Hamas a terrorist organization is ridiculous‚ racist‚ and plays into genocidal propaganda that is flooding our media‚ and we should be doing everything possible to combat.” Another young woman‚ also wearing a mask‚ said: “I support the right of Palestinians to resist occupation‚ including through Hamas‚ the armed wing of the unified Palestinian resistance.” In a smaller sense‚ the video certainly brought shame to the city of Oakland. I say that as a native of Oakland. While the Oakland City Council devotes time to worthless virtue-signaling and giving an extended sounding board to pro-Hamas leftists‚ the city faces acute problems. Crime and homelessness are out of control. An August report from KTVU-TV found that “violent crime is up 12% since last year at this time‚ and robberies increased 30% year-over-year.” KTVU‚ Oakland’s Fox network affiliate‚ also reported in August that there had been 11‚000 reported burglaries to that point this year‚ a 44% increase from the same time the previous year. Given the general lack of enforcement and punishment for criminals‚ I’m guessing that the total number of unreported burglaries pushes the number up much higher. Violent crime had already spiked considerably since 2020’s summer of riots. In Oakland‚ the trend continues. While the NFL’s Oakland Raiders left town a few years ago‚ pirates have now showed up on Oakland’s shorelines. Yes‚ pirates. Homeless encampments around the Bay have doubled as miniature pirate coves. Boats and properties in Oakland harbors are frequently raided. Security in Oakland comes only for those who can afford it. Wealthier neighborhoods are now hiring private security to deal with robberies and break-ins. It’s a true progressive paradise. But for those who pay attention to its troubles at all‚ Oakland has become a laughingstock. That conclusion brings me no joy. It’s a basic conservative impulse to love where you come from. Unfortunately‚ while there are still a handful of things I love about Oakland and the Bay Area‚ what it has become makes me sad and sick. I loved my Oakland A’s baseball team‚ which will also soon be gone. I love my family and friends. I love the pleasant weather and natural beauty. I love the Oakland Zoo. But the ethos of the city and the people who run it are contemptible to me.  Oakland is an example of how even the most pristine pieces of real estate can be ruined by ideology and an inversion of justice. What’s happening there isn’t an isolated incident‚ though. It’s an indication of what’s to come‚ given the current ideological trajectory of our institutions. While many liberals and Democrats have come out against the pro-Hamas speakers at the Oakland City Council meeting‚ I only ask: “What did you expect?” The message of the fanatics at the meeting flows perfectly with left-wing notions of social justice. Individual acts of evil are irrelevant for the “oppressed” fighting “oppressors.” If we are to take their rhetoric about “colonization” and land acknowledgments seriously‚ it’s hard to see this ethos not leading to violence or at minimum excuses for violence. Hamas has gladly picked up on this rising ethos‚ too. Former Hamas terrorist chief Khaled Mashal said on Saudi television recently that wiping out Israel is entirely justified. “We are the victims of the occupation. Full stop‚” he said‚ according to The Telegraph of London. “Therefore‚ nobody should blame us for the things we do. On October 7‚ October 10‚ October million. Everything we do is justified.” Hence‚ you can see how natural the alliance among Hamas‚ Islamists‚ and the far left really is. Is it any wonder young people are suddenly “discovering” Osama bin Laden’s 2002 message to America on TikTok and finding they agree with it? I’m sure that more than a few Democrats‚ especially Jewish Democrats‚ are horrified by this emerging reality. They should be. But their condemnation of the young‚ woke pro-Hamas fanatics will fall on deaf ears. The Left created this monster‚ and now it’s eating them up. Young leftists took their rhetoric about “systemic racism” and the evils of Western civilization seriously and now they look to destroy it‚ literally. Old guard Democrats won’t be able to stave off this rebellion for long.  What’s happened in Oakland won’t stay in Oakland. Have an opinion about this article? Elon Musk Says Advertisers Are Attempting To Blackmail the Platform To Censor‚ Tells Corporate Advertisers: “Go Fuck Yourself”

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties‚ subscribe to Reclaim The Net. Elon Musk has expressed strong disapproval towards major advertisers withdrawing their support from his social media platform‚ X. He accused these companies of attempting to coerce the platform and even risk its financial stability‚ bluntly telling them‚ “Go fuck yourself… Go. Fuck. Yourself. Is that clear?” This backlash from advertisers like Disney‚ IBM‚ NBCUniversal‚ and Lionsgate came after activist groups called on giant corporations to pull advertising on X until the platform censors. Musk‚ unfazed by criticism‚ asserted‚ “Hate away. There’s a real weakness to wanting to be liked.” Musk‚ undeterred‚ expressed his indifference to advertisers’ withdrawal‚ stating boldly‚ “I don’t want them to advertise. If someone is going to blackmail me with advertising or money go fuck yourself. Hey‚ Bob if you’re in the audience‚” Musk added‚ referring directly to Disney CEO Bob Iger. Musk also took criticism for supporting a post on X that many said was antisemitic – something Musk says he regrets. “I handed a loaded gun to those who hate me‚” Musk said‚ calling it “one of the most foolish” things he’s done on the platform. X has taken legal action against Media Matters‚ accusing them of a malicious campaign against Musk and the platform‚ an allegation Media Matters dismisses as baseless. Time’s Up? Watchdog Group Launches Site to Block Google from ‘Manipulating’ Elections

A new website launched this week for the purpose of exposing Google’s leftist bias and making the tech giant accountable to the public. Tech Watch Project announced its America’s Digital Shield website in an X (formerly Twitter) post Sunday. The website is a tool launched to bring accountability to anti-free speech giant Google. TechWatch exists because of the work of psychologist Dr. Robert Epstein‚ who has long accused Google of trying to influence elections through search engine manipulation‚ a reality which concurs with MRC Free Speech America’s research. In its X announcement‚ Tech Watch quoted Epstein to explain the new site’s purpose‚ “JUST IN: AmericasDigitalShield.com is live. ‘THIS is how you make #Google accountable to the public. THIS is how you get them to stop MANIPULATING OUR ELECTIONS &; INDOCTRINATING OUR CHILDREN.’  - @DrREpstein.” Tech Watch’s website explains that its areas of focus include “Manipulation of Our Elections.” America’s Digital Shield professes to capture “ephemeral experiences” online and to expose Big Tech‚ including by exposing inappropriate content on YouTube and tracking Google’s‚ Yahoo’s and Bing’s search engine bias. The site even has a list of elections it claims were “flipped” by Google and topping that list is Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential win. A Media Research Center poll previously found that Big Tech censorship altered the 2020 election results in Biden’s favor. The stated mission of America’s Digital Shield is “safeguarding democratic integrity and ensuring unbiased web access‚” while also “protecting children from harmful content.” MRC Free Speech America has also published multiple exclusive studies on Google’s election-interfering search engine bias. On November 8‚ MRC researchers found that Google continues to bury Joe Biden’s presidential campaign opponents in its search results. Conservatives are under attack. Contact Google at 650-253-0000 and demand it be held to account to mirror the First Amendment while providing transparency‚ clarity on so-called hate speech and equal footing for conservatives. Capitalism and Loneliness: What The Media Get WRONG

Capitalism and Loneliness: What The Media Get WRONG

You must be lonely. The media say loneliness is everywhere in America. A Los Angeles Times columnist says‚ “There’s a mass loneliness crisis going on.” “Capitalism is Making You Lonely‚” says Jacobin Magazine. Vox claims‚ “Capitalism makes us feel empty inside.” As usual‚ the media are just wrong. In my new video‚ historian Johan Norberg points out that‚ “There’s no empirical data that actually shows that we feel more lonely now than we did in the past. ... When researchers compare people with previous generations at the same stage of life‚ they don’t find evidence of increased loneliness.” “But more people live alone now‚” I say. “I would think that would make people lonelier.” “What they never tell you in the reports‚” Norberg replies‚ “is that people who live alone and spend less time surrounded by other people are also more happy with those relationships.” In addition‚ “When people around the world are asked‚ ‘do you have relatives or friends you can count on to help you?’ People in countries (like America) where more people live alone‚ usually say‚ ‘yes.’” But in India and China‚ more people say they have no one. “It’s the complete opposite of what people expect‚” Norberg says. “In less market-based societies‚ 20% to 40% say they have no one to count on if they need help. In the richest and most individualist societies‚ it’s in the low single digits.” On a YouTube channel with 1.7 million subscribers‚ a socialist says‚ “Material incentives of capitalists isolate us from nature‚ each other and ourselves.” Norberg replies‚ “I understand why those charlatans get an audience‚ because at times we all feel lonely.” But his new book‚ “The Capitalist Manifesto‚” points out how capitalism makes life better‚ including making people less lonely. “Every poll shows that people say that they’re less lonely in the most market-oriented societies.” I push back. “Under capitalism‚ people compete. Sounds divisive. Sounds like it would pull us apart.” “Feudalism‚ communism‚ fascism‚ that’s divisive‚” he replies. “All are based on getting resources by taking them from somebody else. Capitalism forces us to think‚ ‘What does the other guy want?’ The most important aspect of capitalism is cooperation. (It’s) why every time you buy something‚ you hear this double‚ ‘Thank you.’” It’s true yet kind of odd. When I pay‚ both the salesperson and I usually say‚ “Thank you.” It’s because I get the product I want‚ and they get my money. I want their product more than the money. They want my money more than whatever they are selling. We both feel we win. “In the market economy‚ we do each other services constantly. That’s how we get richer‚” adds Norberg. “No deal ever happens unless both parties think that they benefit.” And here’s another twist to that. He says capitalism makes us generous. “It sounds surprising (but) for many years‚ lots of researchers around the world have looked at how generous people are when they’re playing different economic games.” In one such game‚ the experimenter gives a person a sum of money and tells them to divide it with a stranger any way they choose. The only condition: the stranger must accept the offer. If the other person refuses‚ nobody gets anything. In capitalist economies‚ writes Norberg‚ “the most common offer is to split the amount fifty-fifty; the recipient is so offended by bad offers that they usually say no if offered less than 30 per cent.” Researchers have now done this test all over the world‚ and to their surprise‚ they discovered that‚ “People are most generous in capitalist societies.” In fact‚ on average‚ they offer twice as much as those in the least capitalist societies. “The closer people live to marketplaces‚ the more generous they are‚” Explains Norberg. “If they constantly buy and sell and negotiate‚ they begin to take other people’s interests into consideration. That’s what markets do. They do affect our character‚ but not in this way that the critics say. They don’t make us more divisive and aggressive. They make us more generous.” Capitalism is good in many ways.

Loopy NYT Columnist Pushes Israel to Give 'Free Pass' to Hamas Terrorists

Appearing as a guest on Tuesday's Anderson Cooper 360 on CNN‚ New York Times foreign affairs columnist Tom Friedman delivered some flaky analysis of the war in Gaza as he pushed for Israel to offer a "free pass" to Hamas terrorist leaders if they turn over the weapons and leave the country after releasing all their hostages. He even suggested that Israel might release Palestinian terrorists held in its prisons as part of the deal. Discussing the current pause in fighting as Hamas releases hostages back to Israel‚ the liberal Times columnist declared that he hopes Israel does not resume the war: ...there's been a lot of talk about‚ Anderson‚ you know‚ "Are you for the ceasefire or not for the ceasefire?" and I'm hoping in the next few days that really morphs into a different discussion: Are you for an end of this? Okay‚ not just a ceasefire. Because you got -- you got‚ what‚ almost two million‚ you know‚ Palestinians in Gaza‚ you know‚ basically uprooted in a -- in a humanitarian crisis.     He continued:  It's just unimaginable for me that Israel is going to be able to‚ sort of‚ restart this war -- go after Khan Yunis -- take care of those people in a humanitarian way -- I think we really need to be talking about a conclusion. You know‚ maybe Israel says‚ "Look‚ you know‚ here's a free pass for all the Hamas leadership -- go to Turkey‚ go to Qatar -- whoever wants to leave‚ turn in your weapons‚ return the hostages -- we'll give the Palestinian prisoners a release. After Friedman suggested that Israel get Arab countries to help put a new government in control of Gaza‚ host Cooper followed up by asking "what's in it" for Hamas to agree to such a deal‚ leading to the liberal columnist to suggest that Hamas actually cared about the civilian population before catching himself and admitting that they do not: "Yeah‚ I would just -- what's in it for them is that obviously the survival of the -- so many people in Gaza -- so many Palestinians whom they claim to represent. We know that they don't really care about them -- they never would have started this war --" Cooper jumped into to remind viewers that Hamas wants Palestinians to be killed by Israel as part of the terrorist group's strategy: "Right‚ I mean‚ isn't martyring people -- isn't having civilians killed sort of part of their -- part of the plan?" Friedman then talked about the possibility of Israel releasing all its Palestinian prisoners‚ and then undermined himself by admitting that "I don't claim to have any particular insight" about how Hamas might react: Yeah‚ that may be‚ but I think that they're in a position now where they have visited so much destruction on their people for now so little. I think they have to in their own minds be thinking about‚ "How do we show something for this?" If they can pull off a giant release of all 6‚000‚ you know‚ Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails for the hostages -- a kind of all for all. At least they'd have something to show for that terrible destruction that they have invited on their population. So I have a feeling they have to be thinking about a lot of this. This ceasefire probably wouldn't have lasted this long‚ Anderson‚ if all they were doing is just getting ready for the next round. But who knows? Maybe they are. I don't claim to have any particular insight‚ but it just feels like the chemistry around this story is changing... Cooper predicted that he could not see Israel continuing its military campaign into the rest of the Gaza Strip‚ and cued up Friedman to talk up the push for new talks for a two-state solution. Friedman put all the blame on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the "far right" for the lack of an agreement even though Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has refused to meet with Israeli leaders almost continuously for the last 14 years. Transcript follows: CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 November 28‚ 2023 8:12 p.m. Eastern ANDERSON COOPER: Perspective now on where this truce might lead and what might happen if and when hostilities come to a longer-term end. Joining us for that‚ New York Times foreign affairs columnist Thomas Friedman. In addition to being a three-time Pulitzer prize-winning journalist‚ he's also the best-selling author of‚ among other titles‚ From Beirut to Jerusalem. So‚ Tom‚ I mean‚ after this massive bombardment‚ weeks of fighting‚ Hamas still in control in Gaza -- still able to be organized enough to hand over hostages they've taken. What does that tell you about the reality of Israel achieving its stated goal of destroying Hamas? THOMAS FRIEDMAN‚ NEW YORK TIMES FOREIGN AFFAIRS COLUMNIST: Well‚ obviously‚ it's incomplete‚ Anderson‚ and I think some very big decisions are going to be -- have to be made‚ you know‚ by Israel if the hostage exchange expires. It sounds like Bill Burns -- our CIA director -- and his colleagues in Qatar are really looking for a way to buy more time and get hostages released in return for Palestinians in Israeli prisons. And‚ you know‚ there's been a lot of talk about‚ Anderson‚ you know‚ "Are you for the ceasefire or not for the ceasefire?" and I'm hoping in the next few days that really morphs into a different discussion: Are you for an end of this? Okay‚ not just a ceasefire. Because you got -- you got‚ what‚ almost two million‚ you know‚ Palestinians in Gaza‚ you know‚ basically uprooted in a -- in a humanitarian crisis.  It's just unimaginable for me that Israel is going to be able to‚ sort of‚ restart this war -- go after Khan Yunis -- take care of those people in a humanitarian way -- I think we really need to be talking about a conclusion. I think we have to really get out of this "ceasefire/no ceasefire" and think about something that gets Hamas leadership out there‚ puts in a new Palestinian leadership and partnership with Arab countries‚ gets reconstruction going‚ the World Bank. I just cannot imagine this going on for more months‚ and I can't imagine the United States and President Biden being able to tolerate that politically. So I'm hoping that's where this discussion starts. COOPER: Why would Hamas's leadership agree to that? I mean‚ they're -- most -- a lot of them are holed up in‚ you know‚ in nice hotels in Doha‚ and even the ones in Gaza -- I mean‚ they are the ones who perpetrated this terror attack on October 7. What's in it for them in that beyond their personal survival? FRIEDMAN: Yeah‚ I would just -- what's in it for them is that obviously the survival of the -- so many people in Gaza -- so many Palestinians whom they claim to represent. We know that they don't really care about them -- they never would have started this war -- COOPER: Right‚ I mean‚ isn't martyring people -- isn't having civilians killed sort of part of their -- part of the plan? FRIEDMAN: Yeah‚ that may be‚ but I think that they're in a position now where they have visited so much destruction on their people for now so little. I don't claim to have any particular insight‚ but it just feels like the chemistry around this story is changing‚ and I think‚ as we approach the end of this ceasefire‚ and we contemplate a resumption of this war with the terrible human costs that would be with the uncertainty of victory for Israel. I think there's going to be some fresh thinking here. I sure hope there will be. COOPER: Yeah‚ I mean‚ I don't understand how Israel goes in‚ as you said‚ Khan Yunis‚ and into the south where hundreds of thousands of people have been told to go. I mean‚ where did they‚ you know -- I talked to some weeks ago‚ and they said‚ "Well‚ they can go toward the sea." I mean‚ there's just not a lot of places to go. You've advocated in the past in columns that Israel has to pair military action in Gaza with a new commitment to a two-state solution with the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza who seek peace with Israel. Have you seen any interest by Israeli authorities in that? FRIEDMAN: Well‚ the current prime minister is -- Prime Minister Netanyahu -- has rejected the idea because his far right -- the members of his coalition -- the farthest right -- refuse to contemplate any kind of‚ you know‚ cooperation with the Palestinian Authority. But I think this is going to come back very soon because‚ if there is no Palestinian leadership -- a partnership in a transition in Gaza‚ then you're talking about Israel -- a country of seven million Jews -- controlling three million Palestinians in the West Bank and two million in Gaza. That's just unsustainable. And so I think you're going to see some fresh thinking on that as well‚ and it may have to be initiated by President Biden. But when I think of what can happen next‚ Anderson‚ the idea that Israel would resume the full-scale war against Hamas amidst two‚ you know‚ close to two million people already uprooted. I just can't see that happening for any length of time‚ and therefore I hope there will be some real talk not just about ceasefire/no ceasefire -- how do we end this in a way that produces a different government in Gaza? Because Israel is not going to live next to Hamas anymore‚ and the people of Gaza shouldn't have to live under Hamas anymore. COOPER: Tom Friedman‚ thank you‚ appreciate it.
