U.S. Conducts Cyberattack On Iranian Military Ship: Report

The United States conducted a cyberattack against an Iranian military vessel that was collecting and providing intelligence to Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen to assist them in attacking merchant vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The attack‚ which happened last week‚ was carried out‚ in part‚ in response to the three U.S. soldiers who were killed during a drone attack in Jordan late last month that wounded dozens more. A U.S. official told NBC News that the ship was the MV Behshad‚ an Iranian military vessel that looks like a cargo ship that the Islamic country uses to “provide targeting information to the Houthis so their attacks on the ships can be more effective.” The cyberattack was carried out with the goal of inhibiting the ship’s ability to share intelligence with the Houthis‚ the report said‚ adding that the U.S. rarely ever discusses covert missions with the media‚ including cyberattacks. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) uses the ship as a front base in the region to collect and share intelligence with terrorists‚ according to CNN‚ which added that the ship was sanctioned under former President Donald Trump.

Jeremy Boreing Premieres Stunning Behind-The-Scenes Footage From Death-Defying Bull Dance Sequence In ‘The Pendragon Cycle’

The latest installment of “The Pendragon Cycle” production diaries takes the bull by the horns‚ literally‚ with an incredible bull dancing scene shot in Rome. While filming episode 8‚ “The Pendragon Cycle” enters the arena with bulls and pushes the limits in the process. The behind-the-scenes footage‚ shown by Daily Wire co-founder and series director Jeremy Boreing on Thursday‚ reveals how much planning went into creating these epic scenes‚ including a strict focus on safety for all the actors and crew members involved in the shoot. Boreing said the behind-the-scenes footage represents “one of the most incredible weeks of filming from the whole production.” “Real people‚ leaping over real bulls‚ in character‚ no cables‚ and no CGI‚” Boreing added. I’m back from filming The Pendragon Cycle in Europe‚ and tomorrow we’re releasing the BTS of one of the most incredible weeks of filming from the whole production: the Bull Dancing scene. I’m premiering it exclusively for @dailywireplus All Access members in a live Q&;A… — Jeremy Boreing (@JeremyDBoreing) February 15‚ 2024 Boreing answered questions about the episode and the series as a whole during the All Access live video for Daily Wire members on Thursday evening. In the behind-the-scenes video‚ Boreing explained how the production crew had been preparing for this moment ever since they announced the show was happening‚ knowing they’d be faced with shooting the bull dance. “Part of their religion is having these people dance with bulls‚” he said of the episode. He added that particular attention was paid to the camera angles so it didn’t feel like “sports coverage” or something that’s been seen before. Instead‚ the bull arena shots were meant to feel “visceral” and “like a movie.” Production designer Renato Cseh said concrete walls had to be constructed for everyone’s protection. It was all completed on a tight five-week timeline. “When you have wild animals on the set‚ you have to be really careful‚” Cseh explained. Executive producer Dallas Sonnier called the episode‚ “the thing I have been waiting for the most.” “Real Spanish bull leapers. They jump over actual dangerous wild bulls that will kill you in a second. They are not wearing wires‚ they are not wearing protective pads. These jumps are going to be 100% real‚” he added as footage of the leapers practicing these death-defying leaps plays in the background. Next‚ Sonnier showed the crates of bulls who will “gore you to death‚” comparing their arrival to “a scene out of Jurassic Park.” Boreing also discussed how time with each bull was limited because of how intelligent they are. “After about 20 minutes‚ the bulls start to learn the tricks. These are very smart animals‚” he explained. “That’s when things get particularly dangerous because the bull starts anticipating your moves.” “Everyone told us we couldn’t do this‚” Sonnier said of the incredible episode. “And yet here we are‚ and we did it.” Coming in 2024‚ exclusively on DailyWire+. Based on the series by acclaimed Christian novelist Stephen R. Lawhead‚ The Pendragon Cycle is a unique retelling of the Arthurian legend‚ set not in the high Medieval age of knights in shining armor‚ but in the wake of a Roman-occupied Britain‚ where the seeds of Christianity are beginning to take root in the face of spiritual and physical darkness. As barbarian invaders threaten to lay claim to the Island of the Mighty‚ only those with faith in the True God will prevail.

Do mysterious Baird’s Beaked whales share culture?—a dive into marine life ‘traditions’

In the frigid‚ dark waters near the Commander Islands‚ where the Pacific Ocean meets the Bering Sea‚ marine scientists have been attracted by a strange phenomenon. Baird’s beaked whales (Berardius bairdii)‚ known for their elusiveness in the deep sea‚ have been discovered frolicking in shallow waters‚ testing our perceptions of these enigmatic cetaceans. Between 2008 and 2019‚ marine scientist Olga Filatova led a team from the University of Southern Denmark that achieved a ground-breaking discovery. Baird’s beaked whales‚ known for their deep-sea habitat‚ were consistently observed in waters shallower than 300 meters‚ defying expectations and prompting Filatova to state‚ “It is uncharacteristic for this species.” A cetacean enigma revealed: the annual gathering of Baird’s Beaked whales To solve this cetacean mystery‚ Filatova and her crew methodically documented the sightings‚ exhibiting a pattern that reveals more than just a deviation from the usual. Over 12 years‚ they discovered a population of 186 individual whales‚ with a core group of 79 known as the resident pod‚ which returned to the same place regularly. The remaining 107 were classified as transitory‚ appearing only once but exhibiting remarkable relationships. Filatova notes‚ “The transients are not as familiar with local conditions as the residents… We observed some transients in the shallow area. These were individuals who had some form of social contact with the residents.” Whale culture: a first look into beaked whales’ cultural traditions This remarkable discovery centers on the concept of cetacean cultural traditions. Baird’s beaked whales‚ like orcas and dolphins‚ appear to communicate and acquire cultural habits. Filatova goes on to say‚ “It is the first time a cultural tradition has been observed among beaked whales.” The researchers assume that transients learn about the benefits of shallow waters through social interactions with the resident pod. This discovery calls into question our knowledge of beaked whale behavior by demonstrating their ability to adapt to other cultures. Orcas‚ which are known for participating in social fads and exchanging hunting skills‚ provide an analogous example in the marine environment. Implications for conservation: understanding the complexity of cetacean behavior The conservation consequences become clearer as we learn more about Baird’s beaked whales. Filatova underscores the challenges in predicting the behavior of these animals‚ stating‚ “You cannot expect all individuals within a specific species to behave the same way.” This intricacy challenges conservation planning‚ underlining the importance of reevaluating assumptions regarding beaked whale habitats and behaviors. A paradigm shift in cetacean studies The surprising gatherings of Baird’s beaked whales in shallow seas reveal a hitherto unknown facet of their behavior while also challenging our usual understanding of these deep-sea creatures. As we explore the mysteries of the ocean‚ the discovery of cultural practices among beaked whales represents a paradigm change in cetacean research. In an age of fast environmental change‚ this discovery prompts us to reevaluate our approach to species conservation. The trip into the depths of the ocean continues‚ revealing that the mysteries of marine life are considerably more complex and fascinating than we could have anticipated. Pioneering prosthetic‚ MiniTouch‚ enables amputees to sense differences in temperature

In a major step toward making prosthetic limbs more genuine‚ researchers created MiniTouch‚ a gadget that allows amputees to feel temperature through their prosthetic limbs. This invention is an important step toward providing prosthetic users with a more natural and integrated experience. Introducing: MiniTouch MiniTouch‚ developed by a team at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne‚ is a pioneering technology that has the potential to transform the area of prosthetics. Professor Solaiman Shokur‚ a senior author of the study‚ underlines the relevance of temperature in providing a natural sensation for prosthesis users. “To give a natural sensation‚ you cannot do it without temperature‚” he goes on to say. How does the MiniTouch work? The concept builds on previous research showing that an amputated hand can be perceived as warm or cool. The MiniTouch has a temperature sensor on the prosthetic hand that is deliberately situated to correspond with the phantom thermal sensations. When the sensor detects a temperature change‚ it sends a signal to a controller‚ which reproduces the temperature on the amputee’s skin. Testing the water To evaluate MiniTouch’s effectiveness‚ the researchers tested it on Fabrizio‚ a 57-year-old amputee. Fabrizio demonstrated outstanding precision in identifying temperatures and materials with MiniTouch. When blindfolded‚ he correctly selected bottles of cold‚ hot‚ or room-temperature water. He also effectively distinguished between slabs of copper‚ glass‚ and plastic‚ demonstrating the device’s adaptability. Beyond temperature: a multisensory future While MiniTouch focuses on temperature‚ the researchers envision a future in which prosthesis users can feel a wide range of sensations. Professor Silvestro Micera‚ another senior author of the research‚ discusses their aspirations to develop a single wearable device that provides a variety of sensations such as pressure‚ texture‚ location‚ temperature‚ and moisture. This represents a significant step toward providing prosthetic users with a more complete sensory experience. Accessibility and affordability One of the most notable qualities of MiniTouch is its usability. The gadget does not require surgery and uses readily available electronics‚ making it easily adaptable to existing prosthetics. This not only improves accessibility but also provides a reasonably priced solution for amputees. Incorporating sensations into prosthetics As the researchers intend to improve MiniTouch’s capabilities‚ they underline the necessity for additional testing with a larger sample of patients. Dr. Sigrid Dupan‚ an expert in sensory feedback for prostheses‚ appreciates the advances but warns of the problems of integrating such devices into the healthcare system on a big scale. “People can’t expect the implementation of these new devices into our healthcare system in a short timeframe‚” she said. The post Pioneering prosthetic‚ MiniTouch‚ enables amputees to sense differences in temperature first appeared on The Optimist Daily: Making Solutions the News.
