Read banned books — except the ones Biden tells Amazon to censor

Book banning went wild in 2023‚ or so the mainstream media and its liberal allies cried.Book after book could no longer be found in school libraries nationwide‚ many titles due to LGBTQ+ themes‚ purportedly. And it was all the right’s fault. The truth? Some of the books being “banned” featured sexualized material inappropriate for school-age children. A select few‚ like the infamous “Gender Queer” text‚ included graphic sexual depictions so shocking that they couldn’t be read aloud at school meetings.A chilling new report suggested that the Biden administration leaned on Amazon to allegedly censor books that questioned elements of its vaccine protocols. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) shared internal Amazon emails revealing that Team Biden pressured Amazon in 2021 to target books tied to the vaccines.A hyped pseudo-'ban' ...Hollywood celebrities‚ presumably staunch supporters of free speech‚ railed against the “bans.” The group included Chelsea Handler‚ John Leguizamo‚ Mark Ruffalo‚ Constance Wu‚ and Sarah Paulson. The Daily Signal’s exhaustive 2023 reporting on the matter found plenty of heat … and few fires. It is simply false that 2‚532 books were removed from schools during the 2021-2022 school year. We know this is false because we examined online card catalogues and found that 74% of the books PEN America identified as banned from school libraries are actually listed as available in the catalogues of those school districts. Are some of the groups in question arguing in good faith‚ even if their facts didn’t hold up to scrutiny? We recently received a perfect test case.... and an underreported real oneA chilling new report suggested that the Biden administration leaned on Amazon to allegedly censor books that questioned elements of its vaccine protocols. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) shared internal Amazon emails revealing that Team Biden pressured Amazon in 2021 to target books tied to the vaccines. Why? To stop “misinformation.” We now know much of what was once dubbed “misinformation” about the vaccines turned out to be true.Align reached out to several organizations to glean their reactions to a book ban with ominous‚ real-world threats. This isn’t a school district voting to keep a problematic book away from school-age children. This is the world’s largest bookseller‚ by its own admission‚ feeling the heat from the U.S. government.Surely the groups in question‚ as well as Hollywood stars‚ would be outraged by the Biden administration’s actions or‚ at the very least‚ seek out more information on the subject. This isn’t a partisan issue. It’s about freedom of speech‚ censorship‚ and the all-American right to share ideas without governmental punishment. The 'wrong' kind of censorship?Yet a Google News search of “PEN America Biden Amazon” revealed no new stories in recent weeks tied to Jordan’s revelations. That group has been on the forefront of the book-banning issue.Align reached out to the group’s media relations arm to ask if the group had any reaction to the troubling Biden-Amazon connection. The organization didn’t respond to the request.Align also reached out to the Authors Guild‚ a group whose motto reads‚ “Supporting working writers and protecting authors’ rights since 1912.” Any reaction or comment? No response. Again.Sheila Nevins recently co-directed "The ABCs of Book Banning‚" a documentary short on the subject. Align asked a publicist working on Nevins’ film for a comment from her on the matter. No response.Align reached out to a representative of “Reading Rainbow” star LeVar Burton for comment or reaction. The “Star Trek: The Next Generation” alum has been vocal on book banning in recent months. He served as the honorary chair of Banned Books Week in October and shared his views on the subject with Esquire magazine.“I've put in work in this field; I've put in time on these issues‚” Burton told Esquire. “I'm happy to be the face of it and represent it‚ because these are matters that I care deeply about.”The actor also told MSNBC’s audience how everyday Americans can fight back against the “conservative” book bans."You can buy banned books. There are myriad ways in which you can participate and be counted. Stand up and be counted. The most important thing is — resist."No response. Nor has he tweeted about the subject from his official X social media account. Most mainstream media outlets have covered the so-called book-banning movement extensively. A quick Google News search on “Amazon Biden book” reveals right-leaning news outlets covered the Jordan revelations. The New York Times‚ the Washington Post‚ CNN‚ and other mainstream sources ignored the matter.

macOS 14.4 beta 3 now available with Music‚ Podcasts‚ and Clock app changes

macOS 14.4 beta 3 is now available to developers as Apple aims at a March release of this new operating system update. While macOS 14.3 was already a mild update‚ 14.4 doesn’t look much more than that. That said‚ Apple is pretty much adding small new features across the macOS 14.4 beta system. For example‚ with macOS 14.2‚ Apple added support for multiple timers on macOS Sonoma. With macOS 14.3 beta‚ the company is expanding this feature with all ringtones currently available. Previously‚ only the classic tones were available. For Apple Music‚ Books‚ and Podcasts apps‚ Apple switched the Listen Now tab to Home. Although there aren’t other changes‚ it’s interesting that Cupertino decided to make this move. One of the most interesting macOS 14.4 beta features is Apple adding 108 new emojis in beta 3. Most of the figures are skin tone modifiers and gender variants. Still‚ the new emojis include a lime‚ shaking heads‚ a phoenix‚ and four new gender-neutral family emojis intended to be represented via silhouettes. Apple is also aware of a bug that the Weather app might crash on launch on Intel Macs. The company is working on a fix‚ which means it’ll likely be fixed by the time Cupertino releases macOS 14.4 to all users. With macOS 14.3‚ Apple added the following features: Collaborate on playlists in Apple Music allows you to invite friends to join your playlist and everyone can add‚ reorder‚ and remove songs. Emoji reactions can be added to any track in a collaborative playlist in Apple Music. Apple Care &; Warranty in Settings shows your coverage for all devices signed in with your Apple ID. Besides macOS 14.4 beta 2‚ Apple is also seeding the second test version of iOS 17.4‚ iPadOS 17.4‚ watchOS 10.4‚ and tvOS 17.4. BGR will let you know once we learn more about this new testing cycle. watchOS 10.4 beta 3 now available with must-have Vision Pro feature

With watchOS 10.4 expected to launch in early March‚ Apple continues its testing cycle with beta 3. While watchOS 10.3 was a minor update‚ this one has some interesting new features that users should be looking forward to trying. The first of them is the addition of over 100 new emojis. Although the new figures include a lime‚ shaking heads‚ a phoenix‚ and four new gender-neutral family emojis intended to be represented via silhouettes‚ skin tone modifiers‚ and gender variants represent the majority of new emojis. They can be used in iMessage and other messaging apps with your Apple Watch. Besides that‚ watchOS 10.4 beta 3 adds a new tweak for Apple Vision Pro users. Since both devices rely on double-tap gestures‚ you can now turn on the Ignore Double Tap setting when using Apple’s spatial computer. Here’s how Apple describes this feature: “When this is on‚ the double tap gesture will be temporarily ignored while using Vision Pro.” For those unaware‚ pinching your fingers is the way you control Apple Vision Pro‚ but if you double tap your fingers‚ this is also how you can control Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. Thankfully‚ the owners of both newer Apple Watches and Vision Pro won’t have this issue for longer. watchOS 10.4 beta 2 also brings improvements to Siri‚ as you can now wake the personal assistant with only its name by saying “Siri” instead of “Hey Siri.” In addition‚ Siri can read incoming messages in multiple languages‚ including Spanish‚ Portuguese‚ French‚ German‚ and more. Lastly‚ there is an updated Timer UI if you care about those tiny details. Alongside watchOS 10.4 beta 3‚ Apple is also seeding the third testing version of iOS 17.4‚ iPadOS 17.4‚ macOS 14.4‚ and tvOS 17.4. BGR will let you know if we find anything different on this build. tvOS 17.4 beta 3 now available with Apple Music SharePlay on Apple TV

Apple has just released tvOS 17.4 beta 3 to Apple TV users. At this moment‚ little is known about the changes the company is adding to this operating system update. However‚ with beta 1‚ the company added references to unreleased homeOS software. Most likely‚ this software could be used for a HomePod with a screen. Bloomberg and other outlets have reported on a HomePod with iPad integration‚ like an Amazon Echo Show product. Apple is also apparently working on a HomePod with a circular display. That said‚ instead of the current wave animations that we have on the HomePod‚ we could see music and weather data‚ for example. That would come in handy‚ as tvOS 17.4 beta is adding a SharePlay feature for Apple Music. iPhone users can scan a QR code on the Apple Music app for the Apple TV and join a SharePlay session to add songs to a list and create a listening party. Image source: José Adorno for BGR With tvOS 17.3‚ Apple readded the Wishlists and Favorites section‚ which can still be found in the iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Shows apps. Interestingly‚ Apple had killed these apps with tvOS 17.2 as it favored the revamped TV app but then decided to re-enable these applications. With that‚ tvOS 17.3 users can finally rediscover the Wishlists and Favorites tabs of these apps‚ as they haven’t been added to the new TV app. In addition‚ Apple Music users can also see Apple Music Collaborative Playlists on the Music app. While they can’t start a collaborative playlist from the Apple TV‚ they can see the collaborators of a list and who added each song. Alongside tvOS 17.4 beta 3‚ Apple is also seeding the third testing version of iOS 17.4‚ iPadOS 17.4‚ watchOS 10.4‚ and macOS 14.4. BGR will let you know if we learn anything new about this or any other upcoming operating system update. visionOS 1.1 beta 2 now available with improved personas and other features

Apple is seeding visionOS 1.1 beta 2 to Vision Pro developers. This is the first main testing version of this spatial computer since it’s been released at the beginning of February. Among the changes are several usability improvements and other new features. visionOS 1.1 beta 2 can be downloaded on the device's Settings app by allowing developer betas. One of the new features is Apple Device Management to Vision Pro. With that‚ IT departments can manage these headsets in the same way they manage other Apple devices. Another change for visionOS 1.1 beta 2 is the ability to reset this spatial computer if the user forgets the password. This has also become available with the latest visionOS 1.0.3 version. Several users have reported that Apple has also improved FaceTime digital personas and the passthrough image of the real world. Although it's unclear how much Apple will still be able to improve‚ the company also highlighted tips and tricks to ensure this device captures your best persona. Here's what you need to have in mind: Image source: Apple Inc. Capturing won’t start until you’re holding your Apple Vision Pro at eye level. If you don’t start the capture within 15 minutes‚ it’s canceled. You can restart the capture after you put your Apple Vision Pro back on. Find a space with front-facing‚ even lighting so there aren’t shadows on your face. Avoid bright light sources overhead or in the background. Stand or sit in front of a simple‚ neutral background without too many details. Stay in the same location and position during the capture process. Relax your shoulders while holding Apple Vision Pro. Natural‚ genuine facial expressions produce the best results. Alongside visionOS 1.1 beta 2‚ Apple has also released the third testing version of iOS 17.4‚ iPadOS 17.4‚ macOS 14.4‚ watchOS 10.4‚ and tvOS 17.4.
