Global Pushback Against the Greens

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has proclaimed fossil-fuel companies “godfathers of climate chaos,” but many Europeans, Africans, and Americans clearly disagree. They’ve shown recently what they think of the green agenda of costly renewables and instead support politicians who will let them keep their cars. In elections for the European Parliament, a good number of Europeans joined the pushback that has already begun in the U.S and South Africa against the green-energy movement. Right-wing parties in Italy, Germany, and France, all with platforms opposing the green agenda, fared strikingly well. French President Emmanuel Macron called national elections after Marine Le Pen’s National Rally Party, which supports fossil fuels, gained 12 seats and won 31% of the vote: a plurality, and about twice the total achieved by Macron’s Renaissance Party. Major losers in the European parliamentary elections included Renew Europe, the party that boasts “it has played a leading role in raising the European Union’s ambitions to reach climate neutrality by 2050,” and the European Greens Party, which seeks a green deal and wants the union to be powered 100% by renewable energy by 2040. On June 5, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, indefinitely postponed New York City’s planned “congestion charge,” or tax, which was originally set to go in effect June 30. Had it been implemented, drivers would have been required to pay $15 per day to enter Manhattan’s central business district below 60th Street. New York expected to raise $1 billion a year from drivers to fund public transit, although one congressional report commissioned by Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., forecast revenues of over $3.4 billion. Proponents said that the tax would improve air quality, reduce congestion, and fund public transit, but it would have disproportionately hurt small businesses, poor residents, and others who rely on personal transportation. The tax would also have been harsh on older and handicapped people, many of whom can’t take public transit. And at a time when working from home has been hitting the economy of downtown Manhattan, it would have been an additional reason for office workers to forsake the city. The Big Apple is fortunate to have escaped this outcome. There was vast resistance to the new tax, and Hochul was wise to cancel it. People don’t like to be without their cars, and she listened. Virginia residents escaped a similar outcome recently, as Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares and Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin decided not to abide by California’s new Advanced Clean Cars II standards. Passed in 2022, the standards require 35% of new passenger vehicles sold in the Golden State to be electric or hydrogen-fueled by 2026 and 100%tto be electric or hydrogen-fueled by 2035. Virginia will comply with federal law rather than California law. Virginia’s prior governor, Ralph Northam, a Democrat, had required that the commonwealth embrace the 2021 automobile standards of the California Air Resources Board, which would have mandated that a certain share of auto dealers’ sales in 2025 be battery-powered cars. The 2022 standards are stricter but were passed after Virginia (and 15 other states) had signed on to California’s 2021 standards. Virginia is the first state to walk away from California’s 2022 standards, and it will encourage others to do the same. People need affordable, reliable transportation for personal and business use. Electric tractors can’t substitute for diesel-powered ones. Small businesses rely on gasoline-powered pickup trucks that can tow equipment without having to stop for an hour or two to recharge during long trips. Construction workers need inexpensive cars to get to work. And this is a global reality. In the South African general elections last month, the African National Congress won only 40% of the popular vote, failing to secure a majority for the first time since the party’s 1994 founding. Although South Africa has vast supplies of coal and gas, blackouts have damaged the economy and contributed to the ANC government’s unpopularity. Unplanned outages rose from 176,000 in 2007 to almost 20 million in 2023. Between 2012 and 2022, South Africa’s gross domestic product per capita declined by 17%, from $8,174 to $6,766, and manufacturing output decreased by almost a third. The latest official unemployment rate is 32.9%. South Africa’s new government will need to ensure a reliable energy supply to revive the country’s manufacturing sector and reduce unemployment. Fossil fuels are demonized by the secretary-general of the United Nations, but they enable people to heat and cool their homes, operate their vehicles, and use electrical appliances reliably. And resilient sources of fuel are essential to many countries’ manufacturing sectors. Voters know this, and they are making themselves heard all over the world. Republican SCHOOLS CNN Panel on Real Reason for 2020 Crime Increase

On Monday, during the second hour of CNN’s This Morning, chief congressional correspondent Manu Raju hosted a panel to discuss former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden’s campaign strategies. Over the course of the segment, Raju allowed The Atlantic writer David Frum to suggest that Trump was responsible for the 2020 crime wave, prompting Republican strategist Jesse Hunt to enlighten the panel on the true causes behind the spike. Frum began with a quick recap of the steep reduction of crime from 1990 to 2014, omitting the fact that the integration of Republican policies was responsible for the decline. He also said that in 2014 “we probably had the lowest crime rates in the history of organized American society” but, then, “things went wrong and especially under Donald Trump, we saw the steepest increase in crime in America since the 1960s.”  Once again, Frum notably placed all of the blame on Trump, even though the second half of former President Barack Obama’s presidency saw a rise in crime. On the other hand, by the second half of Trump’s presidency, crime rates were steadily falling. Frum failed to mention that fact but instead asserted that “the Trump years saw a terrible crime wave, partly because of lax gun–gun laws in the year 2020.”     As if completely forgetting the events that occurred during that year, he singled out Trump’s supposed “lax gun laws” as the leading factor of the crime wave. Frum apparently also forgot about the tragedies that occurred through the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement after George Floyd’s death, including numerous shootings, store lootings, and the destruction of countless buildings amid cries to defund the police. A Heritage Foundation study pointed to a “toxic trio” of “rogue prosecutors, defund the police zealotry, and demonization/demoralization of the police” as the predominant causes. Hunt supported that fact and demonstrated how the “toxic trio” phenomenon occurred primarily in Democrat-run cities: The spike in crimes that you saw was predominantly under Democrat-run cities and Democrat policies that they were implementing on the local level. I'd also point out that it took burning cities, it took a massive spike in crime in these cities that we're talking about to get Democrats to wake up. They saw the polling and started to course correct.  Yet, Trump was the only villain to the fear-mongering Frum who declared that “If you're in danger, you're probably in danger from a gun that was bought under Trump, stolen under Trump, that is now being used against you.” In reality, a Georgetown University study discovered that “guns are used defensively by firearms owners in approximately 1.67 million incidents per year.” And on the idea that people are being victimized with guns bought under the Trump administration, as The Reload’s founder Stephen Gutowski told NewsBusters back in 2022, there’s a long lag time between a gun being legally purchased and it being used for criminal activity. The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: CNN This Morning 6/17/2024 6:08:59 AM EST DAVID FRUM: Between 1990 and 2014, we saw the steepest reduction of crime in American history. By 2014, we probably had the lowest crime rates in the history of organized American society. Unfortunately, after that, things–things went wrong and especially under Donald Trump, we saw the steepest increase in crime in America since the 1960s. The Trump years saw a terrible crime wave, partly because of lax gun–gun laws in the year 2020. We saw more guns bought in a single year than ever bought before in American history.  The good news is, since Trump left town the crime rate has begun to come down. And this year it's coming down very dramatically. So, Donald Trump, look, Donald Trump's genius–and he does have one–is he's the world's leading marketer of crap products. Anybody can sell a good steak, he sells a terrible steak. Anyone can sell a good vodka, he sells a terrible vodka. And he's doing that now. He's–the guy who presided over the steepest increase in crime since the 60s is saying “Vote for me, I'm anti-crime.” The guy who st–saw the steepest increase in the number of guns out there saying, “I will make you safe when you go what buy a loaf of bread.” If you're in danger, you're probably in danger from a gun that was bought under Trump, stolen under Trump, that is now being used against you.  MANU RAJU: Oops, oops. I knocked over my water as I was turning to you, Jesse.  JESSE HUNT: You’re okay. RAJU: Uh, real quickly, just on Biden and–or Trump and… HUNT: Well, I'd say, first of all, like, the spike in crimes that you saw was predominantly under Democrat-run cities and Democrat policies that they were implementing on the local level. I'd also point out that it took burning cities, it took a massive spike in crime in these cities that we're talking about to get Democrats to wake up. They saw the polling and started to course correct. I don't necessarily think voters are that interested in somebody being reactionary with their politics… RAJU: At the end of the day, at the end of the day, of course it depends on how the voters are going to feel come November. We're gonna talk much, much more. We have–we have more to get to. (...)

CNN runs report calling Trump supporters who label US a 'republic' a threat to democracy

CNN showcased a report that featured supporters of former President Donald Trump saying the United States is a constitutional republic and other interviewees saying those comments are a threat to democracy. "President Biden touts his re-election campaign as a fight to preserve democracy, but if you ask some Trump supporters, the former president is not a threat to democracy because the United States is not a democracy," anchor Omar Jimenez said for the introduction. The report features reporter Donie O'Sullivan interviewing Trump supporters who point out the United States is not purely a democracy and it is the Democrats who are a threat to the rule of law with their actions to imprison the former president."I've heard a lot of conspiracy theories. I hear a lot of things out on the road, but to hear Americans, people who would describe themselves as patriots, say that America is not a democracy, that stopped me in my tracks," O'Sullivan told journalist Anne Applebaum.'But calling it a democracy ignores important, constitutional limitations.'"You are hearing people say 'America is not a democracy' because there are people around Trump who want them to be saying, who have been planting that narrative," Applebaum replied."If they can convince people that we don't have a democracy then it's okay Trump is attacking democracy because it doesn't really matter," she added.Applebaum then admits the U.S. isn't a pure form of democracy because the Founding Fathers set up a form of government that has representatives and checks and balances."This is not actually a debate about government, about democracy. It’s an attack on democracy," O'Sullivan told Jimenez at the end of the report. — (@) "Yeah, we’re a constitutional republic. Sure, it’s a democratic form of government. But calling it a 'democracy' ignores important, constitutional limitations—put in place by our founders—designed to keep democratic impulses in check. That’s the whole point of the Constitution," Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said in response to the report."How does CNN explain the Battle hymn of The REPUBLIC? Or the line: 'And to the REPUBLIC which it stands' in our pledge. Democracy is only a PART of the Republic. We have one man, one vote (democracy) to elect our REPRESENTATIVES, They Represent us to enact laws through the CONSTITUTION which they all swear to PROTECT AND DEFEND. Why does the left seem to only care about ‘democracy’. Yes, it is important, but with out the rest of it, democracy becomes mob rule," Glenn Beck noted.

Student asks if 'alien' on vocab assignment refers to space aliens or illegal aliens and is SUSPENDED for racism, family gets death threats

The woke mind virus is rampant in public education. No school perhaps better exemplifies the insidiousness of progressivism than Central Davidson High School in North Carolina where last April, 16-year-old student athlete Christian McGee was suspended for asking his teacher a question regarding a vocabulary assignment. Christian’s question was deemed racially insensitive — “the equivalent of saying the n-word.” His suspension resulted in him receiving three days of out-of-school suspension, causing him to miss a “season-defining track meet.” Further, Christian’s family “got all sorts of death threats.” What could Christian have possibly asked to elicit such virulent backlash? Whether the word “alien” on an English vocabulary assignment referred to “space aliens or illegal aliens who need green cards.” The incident has evolved into a lawsuit, as Christian’s parents are now suing the school district for violating their son’s First and Fourth Amendment rights. However, the Davidson Board of Education has brought forth “some new evidence,” Sara Gonzales reports. “So years ago, Leah McGee had an addiction problem, and she had a criminal history,” but “she's recovered, and she dedicates her life as an advocate helping others stay off of the wrong path,” says Sara, adding that Leah “was even appointed to a Brunswick County addiction commission by a superior court judge.” “But that didn't stop several of the Board of Education members from disseminating Leah's old mugshot and her record in an effort to disparage her and her son's name.” “So, now we find out board chair Alan Beck is accused of texting false allegations to a state senator saying that Christian had been thrown out of several schools and that Leah has a history of harassment,” Sara explains. Further, “Another board member Ashley Carroll sent text messages to another community leader making a false claim that Christian was kicked out of multiple schools for being a racist.” Today, Christian’s mother, Leah McGee, and her attorney join Sara Gonzales to discuss the story in detail and provide updates regarding the lawsuit. To hear the conversation and see the jaw-dropping leaked text messages from Davidson County board members, watch the clip below. Woman opens fire on burglary suspect who allegedly tried to steal from her backyard. Cops find him hiding in unusual spot.

A woman opened fire on a burglary suspect who allegedly tried to steal items from her backyard in Shreveport, Louisiana, early Friday morning; police found the suspect hiding in a neighbor's dryer following a chase that lasted several hours, KSLA-TV reported.Police at 5:10 a.m. responded to a report about shots fired on West Canal Street in the Sunset Acres neighborhood, the station said.'I was in there reading my Bible and seen these police come up the driveway and went in the back.'When officers arrived on scene, they encountered a homeowner who reportedly fired shots at a male who was allegedly trying to steal lawn equipment from her backyard, KSLA said. The station said a neighbor rang the homeowner's doorbell around 4:30 a.m. saying there was someone in her backyard, and some of her belongings were spotted on the sidewalk. Rochelle Baylor, the homeowner, told KSLA she "ran up on" the suspect, demanded to know where her property was, and opened fire "about five or six times."Lt. Shawn Hurd told the station the suspect "ended up calling his mom to come get him," and "we ended up chasing him for miles."KSLA said police chased the suspect for hours before they found him hiding inside neighbor James Wall's clothes dryer.“I was in there reading my Bible and seen these police come up the driveway and went in the back,” Wall told the station in the aftermath. "We have some problems like this every once in a while, but none like this. It was like the whole police force showed up.”KSLA said Baylor's shots didn't hit the suspect, but police said he was found covered in blood, noting that he may have been injured on barbed-wire fencing while on the run.Joshua Dotson, 28, was charged with simple burglary, the station said.Like Blaze News? LGBTQ activist arrested in connection with apparent drug bust

An LGBTQ activist in Georgia has been arrested after police allegedly confiscated a stash of several illegal drugs and a weapon from his residence. The case relates to 49-year-old Jeremy Hobbs, the president and founder of Colgay Pride. According to its website, Colgay Pride is "a prominent resource for young people and adults" associated with LGBT "communities" in the Chattahoochee Valley area.A press release from police claimed that Hobbs had been under investigation for months, ostensibly in connection with a possible "drug-related crime." 'We apologize to our allies, colleagues and partners for the distress caused by these developments.'As a result of that investigation, last Wednesday morning, police went to Hobbs' residence in Columbus, Georgia, a sizeable city of some 200,000 residents just east of the Alabama border. Colgay Pride also shares his address. At the home, officers with the Columbus Police Department's Special Operations Unit reportedly found drug paraphernalia as well as a hefty drug haul, including 5.4 grams of crack cocaine, nearly 21 grams of meth, and almost 24 grams of liquid GHB, sometimes referred to as the "date rape" drug. Police also allegedly found a .38 revolver, though whether the firearm was lawfully registered is unclear.Hobbs was then arrested "without incident," the police statement said. He has since been assessed a bevy of drug-charges: possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of VGCSA schedule I drug with intent to distribute, and possession of drug-related objects. He was also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.Hobbs has already pled not guilty to the charges and was issued a bond totaling more than $25,000. It is unclear whether he has paid it.Colgay Pride has since released a statement, claiming to have the "utmost concern and regret" about the "serious" accusations against Hobbs."The board does not condone the alleged actions and we will cooperate with law enforcement in the coming investigations regarding our operations and finances. We believe that all persons are innocent until proven guilty, including Mr. Hobbs. We offer our support to Mr. Hobbs’ family at this time. Our organization will meet to discuss our next steps, including a transition in leadership and strategy in the interim period," its statement said.Colgay Pride has also suspended its scheduled events "until further notice." "With humility, we ask for the understanding and solidarity of the local community in this period. We apologize to our allies, colleagues and partners for the distress caused by these developments."Like Blaze News?
