Unbelievable: The Largest Reported Snowflake Ever Was Way Bigger Than You’d Ever Imagine.

Picture in your mind the largest snowflake you’ve ever seen falling from the sky. It probably wasn’t much bigger than a coin‚ right? Well‚ the biggest snowflake to actually ever be reported was much‚ much greater in size. Supposedly‚ this enormous piece of snow was over a foot wide‚ according to IFLScience! Of course‚ there are a couple of caveats that come with this information. First of all‚ the largest snowflake ever reported was seen in 1887. This bad boy was described as being bigger than “milk pans‚” which Guinness World Records estimates to have been around a foot and three inches wide. A written account is certainly better than nothing‚ but photos would have been better! Photo by Aaron Burden on Unsplash Second of all‚ IFLScience also notes that what we call flakes are often large clumps of snow stuck together. So‚ if you’re picturing a foot wide snow crystal with a detailed pattern‚ you might be disappointed by the largest snowflake ever. However‚ there is a record for the biggest snow crystal. It measured in at 10mm‚ which is more than twice as large as average. Whether or not the largest snowflake ever reported was really as large as they say‚ one thing is for sure. The science of snow sure is fascinating! You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. Teacher Challenges Fifth-Graders To “Think Outside The Football” And Their Drawings Are So Creative!

This awesome fifth-grade teacher challenges their kids to produce some creative ideas in this “Think Outside the Box Friday” drawing challenge. They absolutely knocked it out of the park with their ideas. The only boundary was that the shape couldn’t be a football. From there‚ these fifth graders created some masterful pieces of art! Let’s take a look. 1. This drawing of Stewie from Family Guy is incredible! This image is from TikTok. Stewie’s head is what I saw in that football shape‚ too. This artist absolutely crushed this rendition of Stewie Griffin‚ though — not sure I could’ve done it any justice! 2. This adorable frog drawing rose to the challenge! This image is from TikTok. This fifth grader is a serious artist! They knocked this creative design challenge out of the park with their drawing of a little froggie in the forest. Abyssinian Cat Price: What They Cost in 2024

Click to Skip Ahead Bringing One Home Costs Per Month Total Monthly Cost Additional Costs Owning on a Budget Abyssinian cats are unique pets that are beloved for their unique appearance. Abyssinian cats have a very distinct orange color and large ears. They are also friendly and sweet. All of this has made Abyssinians very popular‚ but getting one of your own might not be super straightforward. Abyssinians aren’t the most common type of cat‚ and running into one at a shelter or adoption event would be considered lucky. So‚ how much does it cost to get an Abyssinian cat of your own? How much do they cost to care for each month? What do you need to know before buying a new cat? This guide will cover all of that and more. Bringing Home a New Abyssinian Cat: One-Time Costs Getting a new cat is always exciting. There are very few feelings that can match the one you get when you bring home a brand-new pet. But bringing home a new Abyssinian cat comes with some costs that you should be aware of. If you are lucky‚ you will be able to get the cat for free‚ but even if you don’t have to pay for your cat‚ there are other things you will have to buy. Free Lucky people will be able to get a new Abyssinian cat for free. Cats are frequently given away. Local people‚ animal shelters‚ and rescue groups can all be reliable sources for free cats. Free cats are much more common than free dogs. But the likelihood of finding a free purebred Abyssinian cat is still rather low. Image Credit: Kseniya Lanzarote‚ Shutterstock Adoption $50 – $150 Even if you can’t find a free Abyssinian‚ you should still be able to find a cat for cheap. Most shelters and rescue groups will adopt out cats for a small fee. Local shelters will usually be cheaper than rescue groups. Some organizations will charge more for good looking purebred cats‚ which is the category that Abyssinians will frequently fall into. These adoption fees will usually range from $50 to $150‚ but some groups might try to charge more for a young purebred Abyssinian. Breeder $900 – $2‚000+ If you are bent on getting an Abyssinian cat and cannot find one for free or cheap‚ you will likely need to use a breeder. Abyssinian cat breeders are fairly common‚ but they aren’t always cheap. The cost of a well-bred Abyssinian kitten can range anywhere from $900 to $2‚000. Some breeders have been seen charging upwards of $2‚400 for Abyssinian cats in certain markets. If you want to buy from a breeder‚ make sure you have saved enough money to pick the cat you want‚ and make sure that you thoroughly research the breeder and ask questions in order to make sure that they are reputable. Image Credit: Darya Lavinskaya‚ Shutterstock Initial Setup and Supplies $225 – $750 Once you have secured your new kitty‚ you will need to ensure that you have everything they need to be happy and healthy in their new home. Setting up your house for a cat includes things like a litter box‚ food‚ litter‚ bowls‚ and more. If this is your first cat‚ you will need to buy a lot of stuff to ensure that your cat has everything they need. If this is not your first cat‚ you will likely have most of the essentials already. List of Abyssinian Cat Care Supplies and Costs ID Tag and Collar $20 Spay/Neuter $400 – $600 X-Ray Cost $100 – $250 Ultrasound Cost $300 – $600 Microchip $50 Teeth Cleaning $400 – $500 Bed (Optional) $15 – $50 Nail Clipper (optional) $10 Brush (optional) $10 Litter Box $30 Kitty Litter $20 Litter Scoop $10 Carrier $50 Food and Water Bowls $20 How Much Does an Abyssinian Cat Cost Per Month? $70 – $450 per month Taking care of a cat can be extremely affordable‚ but it can also become expensive‚ depending on the age and health of your cat. Cats are typically the cheapest to care for when they are young and healthy and the most expensive when they are old and ailing. Health Care $20 – $467 per month Health and care costs include everything that your cat needs to survive on a daily basis. That includes essentials like food and medications‚ but it also includes veterinary visits and potential insurance costs. The largest cost is potential vet and medical costs which can get quite high if you have a sick or elderly cat that has a number of daily medical considerations. Image Credit: Foonia‚ Shutterstock Food $20 – $60 per month Cats need food every day. Whether you feed a scoop of dry food or use a combination of wet food‚ fresh food‚ and treats‚ food costs are a constant. Food can cost as little as $20 per month with affordable bags of dry food‚ or you can pay up to $60 a month for specialty foods. Grooming $0 – $50 per month Most cats will not need any grooming. Abyssinians are typically very clean and have a short‚ manageable coat. The vast majority of people will not pay a dime for grooming costs for their Abyssinian cat. However‚ if you are someone who likes to bring their pets to the groomer you could pay $20 to $50 per month on monthly grooming trips. Image Credit: Nataly Mayak‚ Shutterstock Medications and Vet Visits $0 – $250 per month Medications and vet visits are the largest potential cost for any pet owner. Thankfully‚ most cats require very little in the way of vet care or medications‚ especially on a monthly basis. In fact‚ many cat owners put off going to the vet as long as possible‚ and it is not uncommon to see cats go months (or even years) without going to the vet. If you have a healthy cat‚ you won’t pay much for medical care. However‚ if you have to go to the vet frequently to treat cancer‚ tooth issues‚ or injuries‚ you can expect to pay $75 just for the office visit plus any medications and services your cat might need‚ which can quickly rack up a sizable monthly bill. Pet Insurance $0 – $35 per month Similar to health costs‚ many people will not bother paying for pet insurance for their cats because they rarely go to the vet. However‚ if you lock in a low rate when you have a kitten‚ you can save a lot of money in the long run if your pet does have a medical condition or medical emergency. Pet insurance costs are often very reasonable and it is worth looking into if you anticipate visits to the vet in the future. Environment Maintenance $30 – $72 per month Cats require a number of things that you need to keep up with to keep them happy and healthy. One of the most basic is litter. Cats will fill a litter box every few days‚ and you need to have fresh litter‚ litter box liners‚ and potential deodorizing treatments to keep the litter area clean and fresh at all times. Litter box liners $12/month Deodorizing spray or granules $10/month Cardboard Scratcher $20/month Litter $30/month Image Credit: Natalia Tretiakova‚ Shutterstock Entertainment $10 – $30 per month Many cats like toys. Whether you just buy a wand toy every few months or some simple catnip‚ or if you invest in a monthly toy box‚ most people spend a little money on entertainment for their cat each month. Entertainment costs are often very minimal‚ and some people might not pay anything to entertain their cat on a regular basis. Total Monthly Cost of Owning an Abyssinian Cat $80 – $569 per month Most cat owners will clock in right around $100 per month in care costs. Abyssinian cats are often healthy‚ and you will be spending most of your money on litter and food for them. The higher number that soars over $500 reflects the cost of caring for an old‚ sick‚ or injured cat. You need to keep this number in mind because‚ in unfortunate situations where your cat gets sick or hurt‚ you might have to spend hundreds a month to treat them or nurse them back to health. You do not want to be surprised by medical costs down the line. Additional Costs to Factor In Pet Sitters/Boarding $20 – $40 per day If you ever plan on taking a vacation or if you need to go out of town for any amount of time‚ you will need to pay for a pet sitter. Some people are lucky enough to have family or friends who will watch their cat for free‚ but most people will have to pay for a sitter or pet boarding. Costs can range from $20 to $40 per day‚ so don’t forget to put that in the budget for your next trip. Image Credit: Nataly Mayak‚ Shutterstock Emergency Vet Care $500 – $2‚500+ per incident No one wants to think about emergency vet care‚ but it is a very real possibility. Cats that spend a lot of time outdoors have the chance of getting into a fight with another animal or being struck by a car. Cats can also get urinary blockages‚ which can cost hundreds of dollars to resolve. Emergency vet care usually starts around $500 but can soar to thousands depending on the severity of the emergency. Scratching Damage $20 – $100 per month Some cats are prolific scratchers. Cats that scratch a lot can damage furniture‚ tear up shoes‚ and put holes in blankets or clothing. If you have a destructive cat‚ you will have to shell out money to fix the things they break or destroy. (That is especially true if they destroy something belonging to a guest.) Insurance Deductible $100 – $1‚000 One thing that most people don’t think about is their insurance deductible. If you have pet insurance‚ you likely have a deductible that you have to pay before insurance kicks in. Most people gloss over this and won’t remember until they need to use it. Don’t forget about your insurance deductible‚ or you can end up paying a lot more than you first thought. Owning an Abyssinian Cat on a Budget Image Credit: New Africa‚ Shutterstock Not everyone has enough disposable income to allow them to afford hundreds of dollars per month on animal care. The good news is that cats are often very affordable to care for. Most cats cost very little to keep happy and healthy‚ especially compared to some other pets. Abyssinian cats are no different. Saving Money on Abyssinian Cat Care Having a healthy cat will be very affordable. The best ways to save money on cat care are to practice preventive medicine‚ consider buying health insurance for your cat when they are young‚ and monitor food costs. If you can avoid serious vet bills and long-term medical problems‚ you will save a ton of money. Since the highest costs for Abyssinian cat care come from veterinary bills and medications‚ avoiding those things early when your cat is young can pay huge dividends in the future. Conclusion Abyssinian cats are beautiful and make excellent companions. Buying an Abyssinian cat can cost hundreds of dollars‚ but caring for them is often affordable. Healthy Abyssinian cats cost roughly $100 per month to care for. That number will usually go up as the cat ages and develops more medical issues. Cats are the most expensive to care for when they are old or sick. Preparing for the future when your cat is young and affordable can help you save money in the long run. Cornish Rex Price: What They Cost in 2024

The post Cornish Rex Price: What They Cost in 2024 by Rachael Gerkensmeyer appeared first on Catster. Copying over entire articles infringes on copyright laws. You may not be aware of it‚ but all of these articles were assigned‚ contracted and paid for‚ so they aren't considered public domain. However‚ we appreciate that you like the article and would love it if you continued sharing just the first paragraph of an article‚ then linking out to the rest of the piece on Catster.com. Click to Skip Ahead Bringing One Home Costs Per Month Total Monthly Cost Additional Costs Owning on a Budget The Cornish Rex is a domestic breed of cat that has unusual fur. Instead of an outer coat‚ a middle layer‚ and an undercoat‚ like most other cat breeds‚ they have only a “down” or undercoat that is extremely fine and short. Sometimes‚ their undercoat is curly. This cat breed is popular among those who want a more “sophisticated” or “high-end” pet. However‚ these cats are suitable for households of (almost) all types. Bringing Home a New Cornish Rex: One-Time Costs The cost of bringing home a new Cornish Rex for the first time will depend on where you source the feline. If you have the time and inclination to work with a rescue group or the humane society‚ you may be able to score one of these cats for free. There is also the possibility of adoption and buying from a breeder. Here is a breakdown. Free If you are lucky‚ you can find a purebred Cornish Rex that someone must rehome for some reason‚ in which case‚ you may not have to pay anything at all for the cat themselves. Some people ask for a rehoming fee in an attempt to make sure only people who intend to care for the animal are considered. They may waive the fee in exchange for a home visit‚ just to check out where the cat will live. Others might not have any requirements for taking ownership of the Cornish Rex that they are rehoming. Image Credit: Jenni Ferreira‚ Shutterstock Adoption $10 – $100 Adoption might be an option to consider if you can find a Cornish Rex at the humane society or another rescue organization. Adoption typically is not free‚ though‚ as these organizations must cover the costs of caring for animals that they rescue as they try to find new homes for them. Therefore‚ a cat can cost anywhere between $10 and $100 (give or take) depending on things like the type of organization you’re working with‚ your location‚ and the cost of veterinarian care that the cat received. Breeder $1‚500  – $2‚000 Getting a Cornish Rex from a breeder is the best way to ensure that you’re getting a purebred kitty‚ but there are a few downsides. First‚ the cost of this breed is quite high compared to most other breeds and can range between $1‚500 and $2‚000. You might get lucky and find a breeder selling for less‚ depending on the situation. Second‚ supporting breeders tends to lead to the production of cats that are ultimately unwanted‚ mistreated‚ or abandoned. With so many cats in the rescue system as it is‚ unnecessary breeding‚ or breeding for profit‚ exacerbates the situation. Initial Setup and Supplies $200 – $600 There are many things that you will need to purchase to ensure that your new Cornish Rex is safe‚ happy‚ and healthy while living with you. The cost of most supplies that you’ll need‚ like a collar‚ spaying or neutering‚ and bedding‚ can vary depending on the type‚ quality‚ and brand that you choose. Therefore‚ the initial setup and supply cost may be (approximately) anywhere between $200 and $600. List of Cornish Rex Care Supplies and Costs ID Tag and Collar $20 – $30 Spay/Neuter $50 – $150 Microchip $25 – $50 Bedding $10 – $30 Nail Clippers $5 – $30 Brush/Comb $5 – $25 Litter Box $15 – $50 Litter Scoop $5 – $10 Cat Scratchers/Posts $20 – $100 Toys $15 – $30 Carrier $20 – $75 Food and Water Bowls $10 – $20 How Much Does a Cornish Rex Cost Per Month? $20 – $5‚375 per month Several things must be purchased weekly or monthly to properly care for your Cornish Rex. Some things‚ like healthcare costs‚ may not be necessary every month. Other things‚ like food‚ will certainly be required. Here’s what to consider. Image Credit: Natalia Fedosova‚ Shutterstock Health Care $0 – $5‚000+ per month Healthcare costs can widely vary from month to month‚ depending on what happens as time goes on. Some months‚ you won’t spend any money on healthcare‚ while others‚ you might spend several thousands of dollars to pay for surgery due to an illness or accident. It’s a good idea to set up a savings account and put a certain amount of money in that account each month (even if it’s just $5)‚ so it can be used to help pay for emergency services that don’t fit into your budget. Food $20 – $75 per month Food is another cost that can vary depending on the brand and type that you choose to invest in. Store-brand foods are usually less expensive‚ but they may not provide as high-quality nutrients as more expensive brands. Image Credit: Jiri Hera‚ Shutterstock Medications and Vet Visits $0 – $250 per month If you are living with a happy and healthy Cornish Rex‚ you likely won’t spend money on medications and/or vet visits every month. You will still have to pay for regular checkups throughout the year‚ but it won’t be a monthly expenditure. The same thing goes for medications‚ as occasional illnesses are bound to happen and accidents are always possible. Therefore‚ you might spend nothing in a month for medications and vet visits‚ while you might spend up to $250 (estimated) in another month for such services. Pet Insurance $0 – $50 per month There are many companies out there that offer pet insurance to help cover the costs of unexpected veterinarian expenses. Pet insurance is not mandatory like vehicle insurance is‚ so if you do not want to invest in it‚ you don’t have to. If you do decide to buy pet insurance‚ you might spend anywhere from $10 to $50 each month on your chosen policy. Image Credit: Grigorita Ko‚ Shutterstock Environment Maintenance $0 – $50 per month There are a few things that you must do as a Cornish Rex owner to help keep the environment safe and healthy. For instance‚ you have to make sure dirty cat litter is carefully disposed of. There are other things that you might decide to utilize to help keep your environment pleasant while minimizing your household’s carbon footprint along the way. Here are examples: Litter box liners $10/month Deodorizing spray or granules $20/month Cardboard scratcher $10 – $20/month Entertainment $0 – $50 per month When it comes to entertainment for your new Cornish Rex‚ you can be as “cheap” or “extravagant” as you want to be. Cats in general don’t care how budget friendly or high-end their entertainment (or belongings‚ for that matter) happen to be. Many cats are happy to play with paper bags that have been emptied after coming home from the store. Still‚ if you’re like most people‚ you will want to spend at least some money on entertaining your Cornish Rex as time goes on. You may want to make your own toys or utilize those you’ve already purchased for multiple months to keep your kitty entertained‚ in which case‚ you won’t spend any money on entertainment. However‚ you might choose to buy a new toy or cat scratcher to enrich your cat’s environment and increase their mental and physical stimulation. You might even want to invest in a monthly cat subscription box that will provide all the entertainment that your cat will need throughout their lifetime. Here are popular options to consider: MeowBox‚ $29.95/month: This subscription service offers themed monthly entertainment boxes that include unique toys and tasty treats‚ and the box itself is a bonus piece of “playground equipment.” Each box contains five to six exciting items. KitNipBox‚ $19.99–$29.99/month: Your kitty is sure to enjoy a variety of different toys‚ catnip products‚ and treats every month when you invest in a KitNipBox subscription. There are two plans to choose from‚ each of which offers free shipping and a no-questions-asked cancellation policy. BoxCat‚ $23–$34/month or $37/quarterly: This subscription service offers the opportunity to purchase large monthly boxes that include not only the toys and treats that other services provide but also bedding‚ scratchers‚ and larger gear that can be costly when purchased separately in stores. BoxCat offers both monthly and quarterly subscription options. The truth is that you can spend as little or as much money as you want on entertainment for your cat. Even felines that rely on homemade toys and old clothes for bedding can lead a happy and high quality of life. Total Monthly Cost of Owning a Cornish Rex $20 – $5‚475 per month The total monthly cost of owning a Cornish Rex can vary from owner to owner depending on things like lifestyle‚ budget‚ and preferences. Some things are not avoidable‚ like veterinarian care. However‚ no expense is likely to be the same each and every month aside from food and maybe a cat subscription box. So‚ it’s up to you to determine what your budget is and how you want to allocate that budget throughout the year to make sure your kitty is well cared for and as happy as can be. Image Credit: absolutimages‚ Shutterstock Additional Costs to Factor In There are additional costs that you are likely to have to factor in at one point during your Cornish Rex’s life. Some instances will be unavoidable‚ while others will be entirely voluntary. Here’s what to consider: Pet Sitting‚ $10–$50/hour: If you want to go on vacation or must go on a business trip‚ your cat could fend for themselves. However‚ it’s always a good idea to hire a pet sitter or take advantage of a boarding facility to ensure that your Cornish Rex is safe‚ well-fed‚ and cared for in case of an emergency while you are away. Travel Gear‚ $20–$300: If you want to take your Cornish Rex with you while traveling by vehicle or plane‚ you’ll need to get gear‚ such as a travel kennel‚ a harness and leash‚ and weatherproof bedding‚ to make the trip as comfortable and safe as possible. Emergency Treatments‚ $100–$5‚000: There is no way to maintain control over what happens when an emergency arises‚ and the same goes for controlling the cost of emergency cat care. Therefore‚ it’s best to invest in pet insurance or save as much as possible for emergencies to alleviate the pain of facing unexpected treatment expenses. Household Damage‚ $10–$250: All cats can get rambunctious occasionally‚ especially when they become bored or do not get enough exercise or mental stimulation. So‚ they might accidentally break a dish‚ rip a curtain‚ or ruin a book during their shenanigans. Every cat owner should expect to replace something occasionally due to accidents or rambunctiousness. Budgeting a certain amount of money each month to put away in anticipation of expenses like these can help ensure that you don’t end up facing a financial hardship that puts undue stress on your household. Owning a Cornish Rex on a Budget If you are looking to own a cat on a budget‚ the Cornish Rex is probably not the best breed choice for you. The cost of buying one of these cats alone is hefty. A rescue cat from the humane society could be a better choice. However‚ it is important to keep in mind that all cats can become ill or injured and require costly veterinarian care. So‚ owning any cat might end up being anything but budget friendly. Image Credit: duodenum82‚ Pixabay Saving Money on Cornish Rex Care There are a few things that you can do to save money when it comes to Cornish Rex care expenses. For starters‚ look at all the rescue centers in your area to see if you can find a purebred Cornish Rex that needs a new home. Other things that you can do include: Invest in High-Quality Food: While the less expensive commercial cat foods out there can help save you money initially‚ these are usually of lesser quality than the higher-priced options on the market. The lower the quality of the food‚ the higher the chance that your Cornish Rex develops health problems that are expensive to treat and/or manage. Spending more money on cat food up front can help you avoid costly vet care and save you money overall. Recruit Family Help: Instead of paying for a pet sitter when you go out of town‚ consider asking a family member to care for your kitty in exchange for room and board while you’re away. Let them have free rein of your home and access to your fridge and cupboards‚ and don’t worry about hourly service expenses. Create Homemade Toys: Commercial cat toys can be expensive‚ and many are likely to get ignored by your cat when all is said and done. However‚ simple things like paper bags‚ boxes‚ and even toilet paper rolls tend to easily get the attention of a cat that wants to explore or play. So‚ get creative‚ and use old materials at home to create new toys and save yourself money over the years. Conclusion A Cornish Rex can cost as much as about $1‚900 to acquire in the first place. There are also all the supplies and accessories that are necessary for proper care‚ which can initially cost you anywhere from about $200 to $600. Monthly expenses can dramatically range. Some months might have you looking at only about $20‚ while others might produce emergencies that end up costing you thousands of dollars. Now that you have an idea of what to expect‚ you can properly budget for the care of your new Cornish Rex and avoid financial issues later.
