FOREIGN. Germany has turned into a politically correct "dictatorship", and it was Angela Merkel who started the destruction of the country. This is stated by one of the Christian Democrats' top profiles during the Merkel era - who admits that Alternative for Germany is now the most reality-based party.

- Germany is a dictatorship of language rules that determine a person's career opportunities.
That's what Arnold Vaatz says, who was deputy group leader for the Christian Democrats in the Bundestag when party leader Angela Merkel ruled the country. He held the heavyweight post from 2002 to 2021.
As soon as you deviate from the established view on immigration, nuclear power, the corona vaccine or the climate, you are singled out as "right-wing" and "removed from the media's relevance zone and silenced", states Vaatz in an interview with the Neue Zürcher Zeitung . And the Christian Democrats have adopted exactly the same attitude as the left-wing parties on these issues.
Arnold Vaatz expresses despair at the development that Germany underwent during Merkel's years in power - and the role he himself played in it all.
- Merkel was a disaster for the whole of Germany, and embarrassingly, I personally played a role because I didn't want to admit it for a long time, he says.
The then chancellor robbed Germany of its future, according to Arnold Vaatz.
- She pulled the plug on Germany by destroying the energy base. She destroyed the armed forces, he says.
The CDU veteran lists several other examples: The infrastructure was allowed to collapse and Merkel pushed for the division within the EU between the Western countries and the Eastern Europeans.
Dissatisfaction with the path chosen by the Christian Democrats is particularly high among East Germans, states Arnold Vaatz.
- Many have realized that this country is no longer governed rationally. They have a feeling that Germany is on a similar path to the GDR in the 1980s, and they will demand corrections.
Vaatz further admits that the anti-immigration Alternative for Germany (AFD) – which has recently had great success, not least in the East – is "closer to the truth than all other parties".
The Christian Democrats must take back parts of AFD's current policy to become relevant again, according to the former top politician.
- But they don't do that out of fear of the environmentalists and their public service media, says Arnold Vaatz to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung.
