This seems a good idear, but I do have a question, has anyone researched how long USB chargers can be used before they start failing and causing fires ?

TECHNIQUE. According to new EU requirements, USB-C must constitute a new charging standard for, for example, mobile phones, headphones and laptops. Now the government is amending the Radio Equipment Act so that this type of product can be sold without a charger.

The requirements also include that consumers and other end users must be given an opportunity to purchase such equipment without a charger.

- The fact that the Riksdag has now supported the proposal means that we will be able to simplify everyday life for many consumers, not only in Sweden but throughout the EU. It is also an important measure for the environment because we will now be able to reduce electronic waste to a greater extent, says Minister of Civil Affairs Erik Slottner in a statement.

In order for the players in the market to have time to adapt to the new EU requirements, these must begin to be applied on 28 December 2024 for certain categories or classes of radio equipment.

As of April 28, 2026, the regulation will also cover portable computers.
