For special counsel Jack Smith‚ his petition to the Supreme Court could have a tremendous downside‚ legal expert Elie Honig explained on Monday.Smith is asking the Supreme Court to decide if former President Donald Trump is immune from federal prosecution for alleged crimes committed while he was president and whether Trump is constitutionally protected from federal prosecution‚ on double jeopardy grounds‚ if Congress has already acquitted him for the same conduct that Smith is prosecuting.On CNN‚ Honig explained how Smith's petition could end badly for him and‚ by extension‚ Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D)."If Donald Trump is to win here‚ obviously Jack Smith's federal election interference case is out the window‚" Honig said. "I also think Fani Willis's case is doomed‚" he explained. "Yes‚ that is a state level case‚ but the principles of immunity would apply whether it's federal or state level prosecution. Again‚ that's if Trump wins." — (@) Both cases attempt to prosecute alleged crimes that took place during Trump's presidency. Thus‚ if the Supreme Court rules that presidential immunity applies in these cases‚ Trump would be protected from prosecution.The other two criminal cases pending against Trump‚ however‚ would not be impacted‚ Honig explained‚ because they target alleged criminal conduct that happened before Trump was president or after Trump left office.The Supreme Court agreed to expedite review of Smith's request‚ giving Trump's legal team until Dec. 20 to respond. Smith submitted his request because Trump's lawyers appealed District Judge Tanya Chutkan's ruling that Trump is not immune from prosecution‚ thus halting proceedings until an appeals court rules on the issue. The motivation for Smith's request is spelled out in the petition. Controversial comedian Charleston White might claim to be prepared for “hell or jail‚” but he’s not the only one. White berated a heckler at his show before throwing a potted poinsettia at him. The audience member and others then jumped on the stage and proceeded to beat the comedian at his own show. The altercation began when White questioned the validity of the 2020 NBA Finals‚ where the Los Angeles Lakers won the championship after beating the Miami Heat. The audience members who jumped onstage didn’t like that — as they were wearing Lakers jerseys. “That’s a really bad look‚” Jason Whitlock tells Shemeka Michelle.“He’s constantly challenging people‚ and in my view I would not be surprised if he doesn’t face some criminal charges because that man was offstage when he hit him with the vase.” After the altercation‚ Charleston posted videos claiming he wasn’t beaten up and that he won. “Charleston White puts a lot of aggressive‚ ghetto — for lack of a better word — energy out there‚ and he got met with some back‚” Whitlock says. Three referees for a boys' basketball tournament in Colorado have been suspended after a viral video showed them fighting each other on the court as fans and players looked on in bewilderment.In the fourth quarter of their game on Saturday morning‚ the fourth-grade players of Cherry Creek were trouncing the boys of Legend Blue‚ 33-15‚ as part of a youth basketball tournament held at Gold Crown Field House in Lakewood‚ Colorado‚ just a few miles outside Denver. So the game itself wasn't of much interest.However‚ just as a young boy in warm-up clothes seemed to take a practice pass along the sideline‚ perhaps during a break in play‚ two officials who were standing near half-court began circling one another with fists raised. The young boy then dashed out of sight as one ref took a swing at the other‚ knocking him to the ground. A third ref‚ who had tried in vain to separate the two brawling men‚ fell as well.A couple of men in street clothes‚ either spectators or coaches‚ soon sprinted onto the court to try to intervene while the original two refs continued to fight. They managed to isolate the ref who took the first swing‚ but in the meantime‚ the two refs who had tumbled to the ground popped back up and began threatening to strike one another at half-court. Fortunately‚ neither of them threw a punch.The entire moment was captured on a video that has since gone viral on social media: — (@) Following the incident‚ the Gold Crown Foundation released a statement confirming that "no children‚ coaches or parents were directly involved.""Through our in-house camera system we were able to identify everyone involved and our staff removed all three officials from the premises‚" the statement continued. Police are searching for a driver who appears to have intentionally mowed down two pedestrians in North Seattle late last month. The barbaric vehicular attacks‚ reminiscent of the August rampage that claimed the life of a retired police chief in Las Vegas‚ likely left two victims with serious injuries. SPD Chief Adrian Diaz referred to the dual hit-and-runs as "callous crimes‚" indicating the driver had targeted and struck pedestrians at random. The first victim was struck around 1:50 a.m. near 107th and Aurora Avenue North. Police indicated surveillance footage showed a crowd of people tending to the victim‚ then ferrying her away in a car. The second victim was struck from behind in a bus lane near the 9600 block of Aurora Avenue North. The Daily Mail indicated the victim had been in the lane because the sidewalk was closed for construction. Upon impact‚ the victim's body rolled off the hood of the car. Detectives have reached out to nearby hospitals‚ reviewed 911 call records‚ and canvassed the area for witnesses‚ but have yet to locate the victims‚ whom the SPD suggested likely "suffered serious injury." SPD spokesman Shawn Weismiller indicated the attacks may have involved two different cars‚ reported the Seattle Times. Seeking help identifying the driver‚ the Seattle Police Department released a cellphone video taken inside the suspect's car during an attack as well as surveillance footage showing one of the attacks. In the cellphone footage‚ a female passenger can be heard instructing the driver‚ "Hit this b****‚ hit this b****!" The driver swerves to hit the female victim. After smashing into the woman‚ the suspect and his passengers cackle and curse the crumpled form shrinking in their rear view. The cellphone video of the second incident once again captures the driver and his passengers laugh upon striking an unsuspecting pedestrian. The New York Post indicated investigators found the cellphone footage uploaded to social media. "I don't know what kind of person would think it's funny hitting people‚" said Gunnel. Jzamir Keys and Jesus Ayala of Las Vegas appear to be two such people. Keys and Ayala face possible life in prison after filming themselves allegedly murdering 64-year-old retired police chief Andreas Probst with a stolen car on Aug. 14. A new Tuesday report by the Government Accountability Office found that the federal government gave abortion groups‚ including Planned Parenthood‚ nearly $2 billion from 2019 to 2021.Last year‚ United States Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tennessee)‚ Representative Chris Smith (R-New Jersey)‚ and former Representative Vicky Hartzler (R-Missouri) led 142 Congressional members in requesting the government watchdog create a report shedding light on federal funding going to pro-abortion groups. In a January 2022 press release‚ Blackburn’s office noted that a former GAO report from fiscal year 2016 through 2018 revealed that nearly 2 billion in taxpayer dollars was used to support abortion groups‚ including the Planned Parenthood Federation of America‚ Marie Stopes International‚ and International Parenthood Federation.Federal law does not permit the use of taxpayer dollars to fund abortions. However‚ there is no law preventing taxpayer funds from being distributed to abortion providers‚ the press release noted.“The information sought in this inquiry is instrumental for policymakers and the public alike‚” the lawmaker wrote. “It is our hope that this report will provide greater insight as Congress considers funding levels and provides increased transparency and openness for our constituencies and the general public.”The GAO’s latest report revealed that as of May 2023‚ Planned Parenthood’s affiliates received roughly $89 million in forgiven Paycheck Protection Program loans from April 2020 and May 2021. The federal government’s PPP program provided low-interest loans that were “fully forgivable for payroll and certain other eligible costs if certain conditions [were] met‚” the report noted. The loans were meant for small businesses with 500 employees or fewer. While Planned Parenthood employs over 16‚000 workers‚ its smaller affiliates reaped the benefits of the COVID-era loan program.From 2019 to 2021‚ Planned Parenthood’s affiliates reportedly received $1.78 billion in federal funds via Medicare‚ Medicaid‚ and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. In total‚ the federal government gave $1.89 billion to abortion providers during that period. The GAO’s report found that the Biden administration increased funding to Planned Parenthood by 373% between 2021 and 2022.“It is appalling that big abortion providers are continuing to receive billions of dollars in federal taxpayer funding‚” Blackburn said in a Tuesday statement. “While small businesses struggled to make ends meet during the pandemic‚ Planned Parenthood illegally siphoned over $90 million from the Paycheck Protection Program‚ specifically designed to help our mom and pop shops keep their doors open.""The American people want their tax dollars spent responsibly and in line with our nation’s values — not on the Left’s abortion-on-demand agenda‚" she continued.
