Texas can enforce a law allowing state authorities to arrest immigrants suspected of crossing the border illegally‚ the Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday‚ another development in the complicated battle between the Republican-led state and the Biden administration. The high court voted 6-3 to reject the Biden administration’s emergency request for a stay on the Texas law while litigation continues in lower courts‚ NBC News reported. All six conservative justices voted to reject the administration’s request‚ while the three liberal justices dissented. The Supreme Court ruling comes just a day after the court extended an administrative stay on Texas’ immigration law while considering the Biden administration’s emergency appeal. The majority did not provide the reasoning behind its decision‚ as is the case with most emergency applications‚ CNN reported. Senate Bill 4‚ signed into law by Republican Governor Greg Abbott in December‚ has gone through a rollercoaster court battle in recent weeks. SB 4 was initially blocked by a federal judge before a federal appeals court reversed the judge’s decision and allowed the law to go into effect. However‚ the Supreme Court stepped in earlier this month — first extending a stay on the law’s implementation before ruling Tuesday that the law can go into effect. SB 4 allows state officials to arrest and jail immigrants suspected of entering the U.S. unlawfully and also grants state judges the power to order deportations. The law drew harsh criticism from the Biden administration‚ which cited the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution‚ arguing that the Texas law interferes with federal immigration law. In her dissent‚ Justice Sonia Sotomayor agreed with the Biden administration and warned of the consequences she believes will come from allowing the law to be enforced. “The court gives a green light to a law that will upend the longstanding federal-state balance of power and sow chaos‚” she wrote. Proponents of SB 4‚ such as Abbott and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton‚ argue that the state has a constitutional right and duty to protect itself from what they view as an invasion at the U.S. southern border. Former “RuPaul’s Drag Race” contestant and actor “Shangela” has reportedly been accused of multiple sexual assaults after recently settling a civil lawsuit accusing the star of rape.  Rolling Stone detailed the accusations against 42-year-old Darius Jeremy Pierce from five individuals‚ including allegations that the drag performer attempted to get them inebriated beyond the ability to give consent. The sexual assaults allegedly occurred between 2012 and 2018 in California‚ Texas‚ Louisiana‚ and the United Kingdom. Another man reportedly said he met Pierce in 2018 in Texas when he was 21. He accused Pierce of shoving him on the floor in a bathroom closet and trying to penetrate him.   The other three accusations were similar‚ including claims that Pierce supplied drinks to men who passed out and awoke in a dazed state after they were allegedly sexually assaulted. In some of the cases‚ the men claim that there was another person in the room with them. McGarrigle accused Pierce‚ who hosted the show‚ of drugging and raping him after a 2020 wrap party. The case was recently settled. The terms were not revealed. “Will &; Grace” star Eric McCormack says straight actors should be able to play gay characters just like he did on the popular NBC sitcom. The 60-year-old actor was asked his thoughts on the debate which is currently raging in Hollywood. Some individuals believe that only people who identify as LGBTQ should get those parts. Not everyone agrees. “That’s a tough one for me because I didn’t become an actor so that I could play an actor‚” McCormack said on Good Morning Britain‚ per Deadline. “There’s no part I’ve ever played where I wasn’t playing something I’m not. It’s part of the gig.” The actor added another counterpoint‚ saying‚ “If gay actors weren’t allowed to play straight actors‚ Broadway would be over. A U.S. District judge appointed by former President Barack Obama dismissed gun charges against an illegal immigrant‚ stating that he should not “be deprived of his Second Amendment right to bear arms in self-defense.” U.S. District Court Judge Sharon Coleman of the Northern District of Illinois‚ who had twice previously denied the illegal immigrant‘s motion to dismiss the case against him‚ reversed herself in the case against Heriberto Carbajal-Flores‚ who was found with a handgun in the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago in June 2020. “Carbajal-Flores contends that he received and used the handgun for self-protection and protection of property. Because of Carbajal-Flores’ citizenship status‚ he was charged in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(5)‚ which prohibits any noncitizen who is not legally authorized to be in the United States from ‘possess[ing] in or affecting commerce‚ any firearm or ammunition; or to receive any firearm or ammunition which has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce‚'” Coleman noted. “The government argues that Carbajal-Flores is a noncitizen who is unlawfully present in this country‚” Coleman continued. “The Court notes‚ however‚ that Carbajal-Flores has never been convicted of a felony‚ a violent crime‚ or a crime involving the use of a weapon. Former NHL Pittsburgh Penguin’s star Konstantin Koltsov has died‚ according to his former Russian hockey club Salavat Yulaev. He was 42. The Miami-Dade police department has labeled the Koltsov’s death an “apparent suicide” and said that “no foul play is suspected‚” the New York Post reported.
