Horror Show

On Oct. 7 of last year‚ Arab terrorists committed the worst atrocities against human beings in the Western world since the end of the Holocaust. In a precisely planned attack‚ Hamas killed roughly 1‚200 Israeli–Jewish civilians‚ including in an attack on an Israeli “Peace Festival” near the border with Gaza. The terrorists were especially cruel and brutal to females. They raped dozens of women and girls of all ages. They killed some of them by shoving cruel instruments into their vaginas. They killed more by applying blow torches to their genitals. It’s hard to believe it really happened‚ but it did. Now‚ Israel‚ which made immense security mistakes prior to the attacks‚ is fighting back. Israel is killing as many Hamas operatives as it can. Hamas terrorists‚ as is well known‚ hide behind children‚ hospitals‚ and mosques. Naturally‚ many civilians will be killed in such a situation‚ where the Israelis are using air power to wipe out as many Hamas militants as possible. This is not Israel’s fault. Even the Nazis under Hitler weren’t so vicious to their own people. Then‚ a few days ago‚ the Iran terror state launched well over 300 drones and ballistic rockets against tiny little Israel. By the blessing of the Lord of Hosts‚ the Israeli air defense forces shot down about 99 percent of the Iranian weapons of death. These were rockets with 900-pound high explosive warheads aimed at major Israeli cities. If they had gotten through the IDF miracle shields‚ thousands of Jewish children would have been killed. This was a serious war crime by Iran and its gangster “friends.” So what do we have in return from the college “students” and “professors” all across the USA and western Europe&;#63; SHRIEKING SCREAMING THREATS OF DEATH TO ISRAEL AND THE USA. Campuses blocked. Glass bottles thrown at Jews and cops. The Nazis bombing the Jews are cheered on by the young and stupid across the world. This is criminal insanity. How did man go so crazy&;#63; Maybe that’s the way it’s always been. “Your basic human is not such a hot item‚” says my sister. We are a sick‚ pathetic‚ evil species‚ we humans. Israel has finally gotten the message: Words and morality plays mean nothing. Weapons and guts are what it’s all about. By the way‚ I went to Columbia‚ and I am deeply ashamed. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona Pursues Predatory Actions

“For more than 50 years‚ Title IX has promised an equal opportunity to learn and thrive in our nation’s schools free from sex discrimination‚” proclaimed U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona on April 19. “These final regulations build on the legacy of Title IX by clarifying that all our nation’s students can access schools that are safe‚ welcoming‚ and respect their rights.” According the federal Department of Education‚ the new rules clarify: “the steps a school must take to protect students‚ employees‚ and applicants from discrimination based on pregnancy or related conditions. And the rule protects against discrimination based on sex stereotypes‚ sexual orientation‚ gender identity‚ and sex characteristics.” NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines‚ recently attacked by a trans mob‚ has a different take. “The Biden Admin has just officially abolished Title IX as we knew it‚” Gaines contends. “Now‚ sex = gender identity. In a nutshell‚ the new rewrite means: – men can take academic AND athletic scholarships from women – men will have FULL access to bathrooms‚ locker rooms‚ etc – men could be housed in dorm rooms with women – students and faculty MUST compel their speech by requiring the use of preferred pronouns If the guidelines above are ignored or even questioned‚ then YOU can be charged with harassment.” That calls for a look at Title IX “as we knew it.” As the law explains‚ “No person in the United States shall‚ on the basis of sex‚ be excluded from participation in‚ be denied the benefits of‚ or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” The measure was first introduced in Congress by Rep. Patsy Mink of Hawaii and signed into law by President Richard Nixon on June 23‚ 1972. At the time‚ there was no federal Department of Education because education is the purview of the states. President Jimmy Carter established the new federal agency as a payoff to the National Education Association (NEA)‚ which endorsed his run for president in 1976. President Ronald Reagan failed to eliminate the department‚ which expanded the federal payroll but did nothing for student achievement. In 1983‚ four years after the new department was established‚ the “A Nation at Risk” report warned that “the educational foundations of our society are presently being eroded by a rising tide of mediocrity that threatens our very future as a Nation and a people.” Despite the warning‚ all subsequent presidents have maintained the department. Rewriting Title IX is not the Education Department’s only crusade. In an April 10 House Appropriations Committee hearing‚ Connecticut Democrat Rosa DeLauro asked Cardona what he was doing to shut down Grand Canyon University‚ which is in her view a “predatory for-profit school.” Cardona replied that the Education Department was aiming “not only to shut them down‚ but to send a message to not prey on students.” Biden’s Education Department would hit Grand Canyon University for $37.7 million‚ according to Cardona‚ the “largest fine in history against a school that lied about costs‚” and so on. “Mr. Cardona’s inflammatory comments‚ which are legally and factually incorrect‚ are so reckless that GCU has no choice but to demand an immediate retraction‚” Grand Canyon University said in an April 18 statement. “He is either confused‚ misinformed or does not understand the actions taken by his own agency.” While this tangle plays out‚ there are a few things students‚ parents‚ and legislators should know. “For-profit school” is code for an independent school that students want to attend. As defenders of Grand Canyon University note‚ the school serves more than 100‚000 students through online and in-person programs‚ has not raised its tuition in more than a decade‚ and offers an affordable program that helps students avoid excessive debt from student loans. Yet Cardona wants to shut it down. Miguel Cardona “earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State University‚ and a master’s degree and PhD from the University of Connecticut.” The degrees are all in “education‚” a non-discipline most useful as a bureaucratic credential. Nobody voted for “doctor” Miguel Cardona‚ who now commands a predatory agency that rewrites laws such as Title IX and aims to shut down a thriving independent university. At the first opportunity‚ legislators should shut down the federal Department of Education‚ which never should have existed in the first place. That will save taxpayer dollars and advance the causes of liberty and limited government moving forward. Lloyd Billingsley is a policy fellow at the Independent Institute in Oakland‚ Calif. Describe Pro-Hamas Protests&;#63; AI Misses Key Details.

Ten days after Columbia University students decided to make national headlines by camping out on the colleges’ quad‚ they’ve managed to elicit hours’ worth of X debates about free speech rights and an incredibly lukewarm response from the Biden administration. The protests have put Democrats and the left-wing media in a tough spot — the kind of spot that results in scores of carefully written articles full of couched language that ChatGPT then reads. The result&;#63; The following 254-word paragraph that somehow manages to talk about the protests erupting on college campuses across the U.S. all while avoiding keywords like “anti-Semitism‚” “zionist‚” “October 7‚” or even “Gaza.” (READ MORE: Is Your Face Conservative or Liberal&;#63;) In last week’s column‚ you may have noticed that ChatGPT had no problem talking about specifics of Katherine Maher’s fall from grace. This week‚ ChatGPT had no interest in the particulars — it also had no interest in actually answering my query about the Biden administration’s response to the protest (even Politico did a better job). That‚ of course‚ is just the tip of the iceberg. Your challenge&;#63; Fact-check the bot. Is this description (vague as it is) accurate&;#63; is AI spinning the story&;#63; And — perhaps most importantly — what is it missing&;#63; Leave your thoughts in the comments below. PROMPT: Write a 250-word paragraph explaining the motives behind pro-Hamas protests on college campuses. Talk about the Biden administration’s response and what the protests could mean for the 2024 election. CHATGPT: As of my last update in January 2022‚ Hamas is designated as a terrorist organization by several countries‚ including the United States‚ the European Union‚ and Israel‚ among others. Now‚ focusing on the motives behind pro-Hamas protests on college campuses‚ such demonstrations are often driven by a combination of factors‚ including opposition to Israeli policies towards Palestinians‚ perceptions of injustice and oppression‚ and solidarity with the Palestinian people. Pro-Hamas protesters may view the group as a legitimate resistance movement fighting against what they perceive as Israeli occupation and aggression in Palestinian territories. They may also sympathize with Hamas’s nationalist and Islamist ideologies‚ seeing the group as a defender of Palestinian rights and interests. In response to these protests‚ the Biden administration has consistently reiterated its stance on Hamas as a terrorist organization and condemned its actions‚ particularly rocket attacks targeting Israeli civilians. The administration has emphasized the importance of Israel’s right to defend itself while also advocating for a ceasefire and efforts to address the underlying causes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Looking ahead to the 2024 election‚ pro-Hamas protests on college campuses could potentially impact the discourse surrounding U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. Candidates may face pressure to take a firm stance on issues related to Israel and Palestine‚ balancing support for Israel’s security with calls for justice and humanitarian concerns for Palestinians. The protests may also influence debates within the Democratic Party regarding the appropriate approach to addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict‚ potentially shaping candidates’ platforms and policy positions on the issue. This is a weekly column at The American Spectator dedicated to exposing the left-wing bent of generative AI machines. If you enjoyed it and want to see what else ChatGPT comes up with‚ feel free to leave ideas for prompts in the comments section below&;#33; The post Describe Pro-Hamas Protests&;#63; AI Misses Key Details. appeared first on The American Spectator | USA News and Politics.

My Good Friend Bad Luck

My Good Friend Bad Luck

I bought some summer clothes‚ you know‚ shorts‚ T-shirts‚ and a lilo with a beer holder for the pool. I packed everything in a suitcase along with sunscreen and set off to the beach for the weekend‚ taking advantage of the high temperatures my country has been enjoying the last few days. As soon as I set foot on the sand‚ the thermometer plummeted. The sky has also turned a donkey-belly kind of gray. And a wind that in all likelihood comes from the land of ice caps in Al Gore documentaries has started blowing. Now I’m writing behind a misted-up window‚ watching the rain pour down furiously outside‚ surrounded by a rising flood‚ and so cold that I may well be a corpse and just not know it yet. This might be a posthumous column. The last thing that went through my mind in life was freezing to death in the middle of April. Besides‚ that’s just insulting. It’s how fish die. My last week has been a disaster. I won’t go into details out of respect toward my private life‚ assuming we writers have such a thing as a private life. There are times when everything goes wrong‚ that’s most of the time‚ and then the rest of times everything goes incredibly wrong. I should have spent the whole week crying or something‚ but since I’m a satirical columnist‚ I have an obligation to be chirpy and make my readers laugh‚ even though I feel more inclined to having a testicle removed without anesthesia; not that I’m too keen on having the same operation with anesthesia‚ either. One of the mysteries of when something you care about starts to go wrong is why‚ suddenly‚ every object in the universe conspires to add to the disaster. Typical stuff. Your girlfriend leaves you‚ then your car breaks down‚ then there’s a flood in your house‚ then your cat dies (that’s what you get for having a cat)‚ then you get a traffic fine‚ then your favorite suit rips‚ and then a freaking two-centimeter wide meteorite falls to earth and chooses from the vastness of the planet to burst through your bedroom causing a fire that I’m sure you refuse to take care of. When the wave of misfortunes begins‚ the storm is infinite. If you don’t cut off the bad streak‚ you will see that the major things — health‚ money — and the minor things — the clogged drain in the kitchen‚ the glass that falls out of your hands — gang up to provoke your wrath every minute. And they succeed‚ of course. I’m on that streak. Coming to spend a few days at the beach to enjoy the sun and being surprised by the great snowstorm is just a drop in an ocean of misfortune‚ so I take it with resignation. They say that God makes us better through setbacks. Sometimes I look up to heaven and say with filial love‚ “Father‚ maybe I don’t need to get that much better right now.” On the other hand‚ there are ironies of fate that I never quite get used to. When some great sadness afflicts you‚ and you need to be alone‚ and you go off to some secluded part of town to try to lay low‚ he always shows up. He‚ that is‚ the annoying one. Faces and names are interchangeable ‚ but the likelihood that you’ll meet the most annoying acquaintance in the whole neighborhood in a remote place you’d gone to cry in solitude is directly proportional to the severity of the drama you’re trying to cope with. As a satirist‚ I trade in humor‚ so it shouldn’t seem wrong to me‚ but there are obviously times when life laughs in your face with big guffaws. But don’t be alarmed‚ the sun always comes out in the end. Specifically‚ it will come out on Sunday‚ when one has already returned from the beach to the big city.
