You would think‚ with a little over a week to go before Michigan’s presidential primary election‚ that a Democrat member of Congress mounting an insurgent rejection campaign against President Joe Biden might garner coverage across the network evening newscasts. Alas‚ you would’ve thought wrong. Only one network found room for the push for a vote of “uncommitted” on the Democratic Party’s primary ballot. Here’s NBC’s report on Michigan’s homegrown version of “Operation Chaos”‚ an addendum to the network’s reporting on fallout from the death of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny‚ as aired on NBC Nightly News on Monday‚ February 19th‚ 2024: LESTER HOLT: Garrett‚ President Biden also faces a new hurdle in Michigan related to next week's Democratic primary. What can you tell us?  GARRETT HAAKE: That's right‚ Lester. A movement among the state's sizable Arab-American population‚ including progressive Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib‚ to vote “Uncommitted” in that primary as a protest against the Biden administration's support for Israel and their actions in Gaza. It could be a major warning sign for November. Lester. HOLT: Garrett Haake. Thank you. That was all of 26 seconds‚ but it was still 26 seconds more than what ABC or CBS devoted to the matter. It turns out that multiple groups are pushing for an “Uncommitted” vote. Per NBC News dot com’s own reporting: (Tlaib) joined growing calls from progressive activists in Michigan to vote “uncommitted” in the state's Democratic presidential primary on Feb. 27 instead of voting for Biden. The video of Tlaib was posted to the X account of “Listen to Michigan‚” a group urging voters to vote “uncommitted” in the primary. Tlaib‚ who is Palestinian American‚ cited her dissatisfaction with the Biden administration's role in the war between Israel and Hamas as her reason for urging people to vote. “It is also important to create a voting bloc‚ something that is a bullhorn‚ to say‚ ‘Enough is enough. We don't want a country that supports wars and bombs and destruction. We want to support life. We want to support life. We want to stand up for every single life killed in Gaza‚’” Tlaib said. And it isn’t just the Arab-American community. As the report notes‚  On Wednesday‚ Our Revolution‚ a progressive political organization founded by Sen. Bernie Sanders‚ I-Vt.‚ also urged Michigan Democrats to vote “uncommitted” in the primary. (Sanders has distanced himself from the group’s position‚ saying he supports Biden’s re-election bid.) The report goes on to note that Our Revolution reiterates their endorsement of Biden. On the other hand‚ the recent slew of dispatches from Michigan suggest that the Arab-American community is more firmly in the “Never Biden” camp. It is odd that the other networks‚ having also gone through the time and production expense of parachuting correspondents into Dearborn‚ remain silent on Operation Uncommitted. It is even weirder when you consider the many “Biden’s Coalition Is Cracking” reports filed from everywhere. This is right in that wheelhouse.  Alas‚ there’s still a little over a week before the primary. We’ll see.   

The New York Times touted a new survey of historians that ranked Joe Biden #14 on a "presidential greatness" list‚ while Ronald Reagan fell five slots to #16. Barack Obama is #7‚ and Donald Trump was dead last. Biden's greatest achievement? Beating Trump. Peter Baker projected a disappointment over Biden’s achievements. Although he has claims to a historical legacy by managing the end of the Covid pandemic; rebuilding the nation’s roads‚ bridges and other infrastructure; and leading an international coalition against Russian aggression‚ Mr. Biden’s signature accomplishment‚ according to the historians‚ was evicting Mr. Trump from the Oval Office. “Biden’s most important achievements may be that he rescued the presidency from Trump‚ resumed a more traditional style of presidential leadership and is gearing up to keep the office out of his predecessor’s hands this fall‚” wrote Justin Vaughn and Brandon Rottinghaus‚ the college professors who conducted the survey and announced the results in the Los Angeles Times. In a podcast called This Moment In Democracy out of Rutgers‚ the professors explained that recent Democrat presidents have received a Trump bump among the experts. Their rankings are rising thanks to the comparison with The Donald. Listen to how you can tell the vast majority of these professors are Democrats‚ which is surprising to no one.  Also in today's potpourri: The TV networks are still promoting Trump’s enormous civil-suit fine of $355 million. The Wall Street Journal editorial page suggested Trump exaggerated with bankers‚ like he does in life‚ but “this remedy is like using a Hellfire missile to annihilate a shoplifter.” Biden news is not news. Politico reported on Sunday that when Joe Biden’s brother Jim worked as a consultant to Americore hospitals in 2017‚ he suggested his brother could help‚ and spoke of plans to give Joe equity and a board seat. Instead‚ Americore went bankrupt‚ wreaking havoc in rural communities.  On the same day in 2018 that Jim Biden received a $200‚000 payment from Americore‚ he made out a check for that amount to his brother Joe‚ which he claims was a “loan repayment‚” but he hasn’t proved the loan. Jim Biden will appear this week before Jim Comer’s House Oversight Committee. According to The New York Times‚ a Secret Service agent is now "positioned at the bottom of the stairs" — even the short stairs — whenever Biden boards or disembarks from Air Force One to make sure he doesn't trip. Media somehow defends Fani Willis:  Her case in Georgia is collapsing‚ but they will pretend it’s not. Just as they pretended Stacey Abrams won the governor’s race. See ther AP story headlined "Fani Willis’ testimony evokes long-standing frustrations for Black women leaders" In interviews with The Associated Press‚ many Black women leaders expressed frustration and disappointment that public attention had turned from the merits of the criminal case to the personal conduct of the Black woman overseeing the prosecution. For them‚ the court challenge to Willis echoes familiar experiences of tests of their authority‚ competence and character. Media blames Trump for Navalny death.  Sloppy liberals like Jonathan Capehart on the PBS NewsHour  suggested that Trump encouraged the death of Navalny when he made a statement about how if NATO members don’t pay for their own defense‚ he’d encourage Putin to do “whatever the hell he wants.” Enjoy the podcast below‚ or wherever you listen to podcasts.

"Our acquisition of Discover is a singular opportunity to bring together two very successful companies with complementary capabilities and franchises‚ and to build a payments network that can compete with the largest payments networks and payments companies‚" Capital One founder‚ chairman‚ and CEO Richard Fairbank said‚ according to the press release.Discover investors will get slightly more than one share of Capital One per share of Discover that they hold."Under the terms of the agreement‚ Discover shareholders will receive 1.0192 Capital One shares for each Discover share‚ representing a premium of 26.6% based on Discover's closing price of $110.49 on February 16‚ 2024. At close‚ Capital One shareholders will own approximately 60% and Discover shareholders will own approximately 40% of the combined company‚" the press release notes. Discover "is the smallest of the four US-based global payments networks. This acquisition adds scale and investment‚ enabling the Discover network to be more competitive with the largest payments networks and payments companies‚" the release noted.Both companies promote environmental‚ social‚ and governance‚ or ESG‚ ideology.Discover released an ESG report last year that listed goals such as increasing the representation of women and non-whites in "all management levels by 2025." "Increase POC to 40%" the report stated as a goal‚ providing a footnote that explained‚ "POC is defined as People of Color; POC comprises all races/ethnicities in the United States that are not categorized as White/Caucasian."
