Nationally Recognized Law Firm To End On-Campus Recruiting At Harvard Following President’s Troubling Testimony On Anti-Semitism

A law firm known around the country for its successful litigation against Big Tech companies said Thursday it will be ending its on-campus recruitment at Harvard University amid backlash to the school president’s remarks before Congress on anti-Semitism Edelson PC — which has won lawsuits against Facebook‚ Google‚ Amazon‚ and Apple for violating privacy laws — announced the decision to end on-campus recruitment in a letter by the firm’s founder Jay Edelson addressed to Harvard Director of Recruitment &; Operations Jesse Ohrenberger. In the letter‚ Edelson said his firm usually refrains from commenting on the positions taken “by those in [its] network” but added that “when certain boundaries of morality and ethics are transgressed‚ silence is not an option.” “We‚ along with the rest of the nation‚ observed Dr. Claudine Gay’s testimony before Congress‚ wherein she refused to unequivocally state that advocating for genocide would breach the school’s code of conduct‚” Edelson wrote.  “Factoring in her extensive experience and preparation with a crisis management team‚ Dr. Gay’s testimony before Congress cannot be seen as merely a slip of the tongue‚” the firm’s founder continued‚ adding‚ “ It must be unequivocally clear that calls for the genocide of any group—be it on the basis of religion‚ race‚ gender‚ disability‚ or sexual orientation—are indefensible and contrary to the values we uphold.”  During her testimony before Congress last week‚ Gay was asked if “calling for the genocide of Jews violates Harvard’s code of conduct‚” and she responded‚ “It depends on the context.” Gay issued an apology two days later‚ saying that “words matter‚” but Gay would face more heat when on Sunday independent journalist Chris Rufo published a report outlining what he indicated to be three instances of plagiarism from the president’s dissertation. Harvard University’s highest governing body said it would stand by its president even as calls for her to step down or be fired grew.  “Our extensive deliberations affirm our confidence that President Gay is the right leader to help our community heal and to address the very serious societal issues we are facing‚” wrote The Harvard Corporation‚ a 12-member group overseeing the university’s academic and financial resources. The easiest solution would be for Harvard to simply remove Dr. Gay but would‚ in many ways‚ just gloss over the core problem‚” Edelson PC said in a statement to Fox News. “Harvard has been one of the most vocal proponents of ‘educating’ the nation on the need for safe spaces for students‚ how important trigger warnings are‚ and how words can be equated with violence.”

Fired New York Times Editor James Bennet: The Times 'Lost Its Way'

In the day‚ it was a news-grabbing story. NewsBusters’ own Curtis Houck headlined the story when it happened in 2020.  They Have Their Scalp: NYT Editor Bows to Mob‚ Resigns Over Tom Cotton Column Curtis opened with this:  In the latest blow to free speech‚ outside criticism‚ and exposure to opposing views‚ the woke‚ snowflake-laden New York Times and Philadelphia Inquirer newsrooms forced the resignations Sunday afternoon of opinion editor James Bennet and executive editor Stan Wischnowski‚ respectively. For Bennet‚ he was shoved out after his section published a June 3 op-ed by Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) that dared to praise peaceful protesters and support the use of the military to support police in cities where riots had broken out. In a staff memo‚ publisher A.G. Sulzberger claimed that ‘we saw a significant breakdown in our editing processes‚ not the first we’ve expressed in recent years.’ And now? Here we are three years later and the fired opinion editor‚ James Bennet by name‚ is having his literary revenge.  Now featured in The Economist‚ Bennet titles his punch back:  When the New York Times lost its way  America’s media should do more to equip readers to think for themselves Among other things - make that many things - Bennet says the following of his old home at the Gray Lady.  “Are we truly so precious?” Dean Baquet‚ the executive editor of the New York Times‚ asked me one Wednesday evening in June 2020. I was the editorial-page editor of the Times‚ and we had just published an op-ed by Tom Cotton‚ a senator from Arkansas‚ that was outraging many members of the Times staff. America’s conscience had been shocked days before by images of a white police officer kneeling on the neck of a black man‚ George Floyd‚ until he died. It was a frenzied time in America‚ assaulted by covid-19‚ scalded by police barbarism. Throughout the country protesters were on the march. Substantive reform of the police‚ so long delayed‚ suddenly seemed like a real possibility‚ but so did violence and political backlash. In some cities rioting and looting had broken out.  It was the kind of crisis in which journalism could fulfil its highest ambitions of helping readers understand the world‚ in order to fix it‚ and in the Times’s Opinion section‚ which I oversaw‚ we were pursuing our role of presenting debate from all sides. We had published pieces arguing against the idea of relying on troops to stop the violence‚ and one urging abolition of the police altogether. But Cotton‚ an army veteran‚ was calling for the use of troops to protect lives and businesses from rioters. Some Times reporters and other staff were taking to what was then called Twitter‚ now called X‚ to attack the decision to publish his argument‚ for fear he would persuade Times readers to support his proposal and it would be enacted. The next day the Times’s union—its unit of the NewsGuild-cwa—would issue a statement calling the op-ed ‘a clear threat to the health and safety of the journalists we represent’.  The Times had endured many cycles of Twitter outrage for one story or opinion piece or another. It was never fun; it felt like sticking your head in a metal bucket while people were banging it with hammers. The publisher‚ A.G. Sulzberger‚ who was about two years into the job‚ understood why we’d published the op-ed. He had some criticisms about packaging; he said the editors should add links to other op-eds we’d published with a different view. But he’d emailed me that afternoon‚ saying: “I get and support the reason for including the piece‚” because‚ he thought‚ Cotton’s view had the support of the White House as well as a majority of the Senate. As the clamour grew‚ he asked me to call Baquet‚ the paper’s most senior editor.  Like me‚ Baquet seemed taken aback by the criticism that Times readers shouldn’t hear what Cotton had to say. Cotton had a lot of influence with the White House‚ Baquet noted‚ and he could well be making his argument directly to the president‚ Donald Trump. Readers should know about it. Cotton was also a possible future contender for the White House himself‚ Baquet added. And‚ besides‚ Cotton was far from alone: lots of Americans agreed with him—most of them‚ according to some polls. “Are we truly so precious?” Baquet asked again‚ with a note of wonder and frustration. The answer‚ it turned out‚ was yes. Less than three days later‚ on Saturday morning‚ Sulzberger called me at home and‚ with an icy anger that still puzzles and saddens me‚ demanded my resignation. I got mad‚ too‚ and said he’d have to fire me. I thought better of that later. I called him back and agreed to resign‚ flattering myself that I was being noble. Bennet’s tale goes on from there. Printed out it comes to over 60 pages. Suffice to say he has a lot to get off his chest. He accuses the Times of having “metastasized from liberal bias to illiberal bias‚ from an inclination to favor one side of the national debate to an impulse to shut down debate altogether.” The paper’s staff was now about “bullying and group-think.”  His internal critics saw themselves as “always right about everything” and therefore “justified in shouting disagreement down.” He says that for now‚ “to assert that the Times plays by the same rules it always has is to commit a hypocrisy that is transparent to conservatives‚ dangerous to liberals and bad for the country as a whole….The reality is that the Times is becoming the publication through which America’s progressive elite talks to itself about an America that does not really exist.” There is more here. Oh so much more.  But what interests in one sense is that this assessment of the Times by Bennet coincidentally appears exactly at the moment those Ivy League presidents were grilled on Capitol Hill about their universities being run as essentially woke‚ intolerant-of-dissent campuses. In other words‚ they saw themselves just as Bennet’s internal Times critics saw the role of the Times.  All of which is to say the infection that is “wokeness” has spread in American society. If not starting with the New York Times‚ most certainly including it. Conservatives have long targeted the Times for criticism of its liberal‚ pro-big government bent.  But now? Sadly it wouldn’t surprise that there could be lots of conservatives who mourn the old Gray Lady as much as they despise the new woke business that is decidedly intolerant of dissent altogether and is infecting not just the Times but one American institution after another. The Times is  a-changing. And as James Bennet illustrates in chapter and verse‚ it has indeed lost its way.

One of the top Hamas officials has openly called for violence against Israeli allies‚ including the U.S. and UK. The comments come after two months of warfare in Gaza. Sami Abu Zuhri‚ the leader of the political department of Hamas abroad‚ stated: "When (Secretary of State Antony) Blinken is justifying the killing of women and children‚ the sons of our nation should say to him: You are the enemy‚ just like (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu‚ and you must pay the price‚ just like Netanyahu."Zuhri made the remarks on Al-Aqsa on December 5‚ just a few days after the end of a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas terrorists. During the time of the ceasefire‚ Hamas freed around 100 hostages who were abducted on October‚ when 1‚200 Israelis were slaughtered during a surprise attack by Hamas. Al-Aqsa TV is a network within Gaza‚ which spews news and propaganda‚ according to Fox News Digital.Following the ceasefire‚ Israel launched a heavy ground attack in Gaza‚ claiming that the terrorist group did not uphold its own part of the temporary truce. While Hamas claimed that they only had soldiers left in their custody‚ Israel was not convinced."If our nation thinks that the heroic acts of Al-Qassam Brigades release it from its responsibility — that is a misconception and a mistaken assessment that should be discarded‚" Zuhri said. "The Al-Qassam Brigades are doing what they must do‚ and the people of Gaza are as steadfast as they must be." The brigade that Zuhri referred to is the military wing of Hamas‚ which led the October 7 attack and has used Gazan civilians as human shields in their fight with Israel."Now it is our nation's turn to pressure the Americans to stop this war‚" Zuhri went on. "We need violent acts against American and British interests everywhere‚ as well as the interests of all the countries that support the occupation.""They must pay a price for the blood of our women and children who are being killed in cold blood in the streets of Gaza.""They must pay a price so that they know that Gaza is not alone‚ and that when they gave the order to kill‚ they should have been prepared to pay the necessary price."Zuhri apparently did not address the 1‚200 non-combatants brutally murdered in early October by his own forces‚ which Israel understood to be an unprovoked attack. The family of a 9-year-old girl who was allegedly raped multiple times by a boy on a Boston school bus has filed a lawsuit against Boston Public Schools for failing to protect the girl on her way home from school.The girl‚ who is a student at the Match Charter Public School in Hyde Park‚ was sexually assaulted and raped multiple times by an 11-year-old student over the course of seven months during the 2022-2023 school year‚ according to WFXT. The lawsuit states: "The sexual assaults occurred on diverse dates over seven months and were committed by another 11-year-old student."“The sexual assaults took place just a few feet from the bus monitor and the bus driver on the ride home after school from the Match Charter Public School.”The lawsuit went on to suggest that once the school became aware of the alleged assaults‚ an investigation uncovered that though the bus had video equipment onboard‚ no video footage could be found for the dates that the alleged assaults occurred.The report mentioned that the attorneys at Morgan &; Morgan said that the young girl had suffered great physical and mental harm from the incidents. She also had to leave school before she was able to complete fourth grade due to fear of physical or social consequences of the situation.“Our lawsuit alleges that it was the failure of Boston Public Schools and Transdev to follow their policies that directly led to this young child’s assault‚” attorneys Nina Bonelli and Alexander Zodikoff stated. “Our client will experience a childhood haunted by trauma and flashbacks‚ and we will do everything in our power to hold the defendants accountable and prevent anything like this from happening to another child in our city.”The lawsuit went on to say that the bus driver and monitor "either knew‚ or reasonably should have known‚ of the repeated and ongoing sexual abuse‚" adding that they had a "duty to identify‚ intervene‚ and take steps to end and report the abuse as well as to take reasonable steps to prevent it from reoccurring."Boston Public Schools attempted to justify the missing footage‚ saying that while the footage is stored‚ it is not stored permanently. “Boston Public Schools’ top priority is the safety of our young people. Our jurisdiction to take action is limited when it comes to students who do not attend a Boston Public School but still utilize BPS buses‚ and we were devastated to learn of this disturbing alleged incident five months after it occurred‚” spokesman Max Baker said. “Once we were informed‚ BPS took all the available and appropriate steps possible. The BPS Department of Transportation provided all information available to Match Charter School‚ which is legally responsible for investigating all incidents of impropriety regarding their students.”Nnenna Ude‚ the Executive Director of the Match Charter Public School‚ said that while the school is committed to the safety of its students‚ they are not responsible for the buses that get the children to and from school.“While we cannot comment on ongoing litigation‚ we took all appropriate steps to immediately notify the proper authorities‚ work closely with the families involved‚ and secure the safety of the students‚” Ude said. “Match Charter Public School does not operate the buses that transport our students to and from school. A Florida woman – previously named the "Rookie Teacher of the Year" – admitted to committing sex crimes against a 14-year-old student. However‚ the disgraced teacher was still able to avoid going to prison. Former middle school drama teacher‚ Brittiny Lopez-Murray‚ pleaded guilty to three counts of lewd and lascivious battery‚ one count of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child between the age of 12 and 16‚ and two counts of electronic transmission harmful to minors‚ according to Miami-Dade court records.In the plea deal‚ Lopez-Murray avoids going to prison. She was sentenced to two years of community control plus 10 years of probation‚ must register as a sex offender‚ and must attend a program for mental disorder sex offenders.Prosecutors said the plea deal was approved by the victim's family. Lopez-Murra‚ 33‚ is a former Hialeah Middle School drama teacher who was awarded the school’s “Rookie Teacher of the Year” honor in 2017.Lopez-Murray abused one of her teen students‚ who she previously taught in seventh and eighth-grade classes‚ according to the affidavit. The student was reportedly in high school when the child sex abuse occurred. Lopez-Murray started the relationship with the teen in August 2021.According to People magazine‚ "The teacher and her former student then met up at a local Starbucks for breakfast and she later sexually abused him in her white Jeep‚ including after she picked him up from basketball practice and from his home‚ the affidavit had said."The boy allegedly told police that they had engaged in multiple sex acts in her car‚ including in the parking lot at a mall and a grocery store.The pair exchanged texts about "how much they enjoyed the sex with each other‚" the affidavit stated.Lopez-Murray allegedly sent her former student a "long text message‚ where she expressed her feelings towards him and how she felt about him‚” according to an arrest affidavit.However‚ the boy's sister became suspicious when she noticed her brother was spending a lot of time on his cell phone and not allowing anyone to see what he was doing‚ court documents said. As Blaze News previously reported‚ The sister allegedly took possession of the phone and saw the "explicit text messages and photos" sent between the boy and the teacher. The sister then alerted her father about the sexual text messages.The affidavit read: "The defendant also groomed‚ enticed‚ encouraged the victim to send child pornography images by writing things such as‚ 'perfect‚ and yum.'"Lopez-Murray was arrested in October 2021.Miami-Dade County Public Schools terminated her employment after she was arrested.Like Blaze News?
