Taylor Sheridan Is Teaming Up With Blake Shelton, Keith Urban & Gretchen Wilson For A New Reality Singing Competition

It was only a matter of time before Taylor Sheridan officially got into country music. The creator of hit television series’ like Yellowstone, Tulsa King and Landman, among many others, has always included some incredible country music in his shows, often putting the spotlight on up and coming artists, Texas country, red dirt, Appalachian country, and much more. He’s also worked with several country artists, including Lainey Wilson during her role in Yellowstone and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as stars of 1883. While Sheridan has helped boost the careers of many artists simply by featuring their music in his shows, now he’s going a step further and trying to help discover the next country superstar. CBS announced last fall that Sheridan would be teaming up with Blake Shelton for a new type of reality singing competition, and now we know more about the upcoming show, The Road. Unlike his role on The Voice, Shelton will serve alongside Sheridan as executive producer of the new show, which will feature 12 artists performing on the road with country music superstar Keith Urban. The audience at each show will then help determine which artists continue on to the next stop. Along with Shelton and Urban, Gretchen Wilson will also serve as the “tour manager” for the artists, providing support and guidance as they seek to continue on in the competition. The “tour stops” took place from March 2 through April 2, including legendary venues like the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma. And yesterday, CBS unveiled the cast of emerging artists who served as Urban’s openers: Adam Sanders, Billie Jo Jones, Blaine Bailey, Briana Adams, Britnee Kellogg, Cassidy Daniels, Channing Wilson, Cody Hibbard, Forrest McCurren, Jenny Tolman, Jon Wood and Olivia Harms. Some of the names may sound familiar, like Nashville native Channing Wilson, who has been a mainstay in Music City for a while now and has even written songs like “She Got The Best Of Me” and “Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old” by Luke Combs and “Get That Man A Beer” by Riley Green. Others have made names for themselves in their respective hometowns, and some appear to be relatively new to the music scene and looking for their big break. Speaking on the show, Urban expressed the important of getting a chance to see artists perform on the road: “I spent a lot of years playing in some real seedy pubs, sometimes just for the bartender – but it’s where I learned so much about what I do. So, I love the idea of putting artists into a real-world environment, to find out if they have what it takes. Paying your dues sucks, but there are many things that just can’t be taught, like how to put together a set list, whether to extend or cut a song during your performance or how to work the crowd. For me, touring has always been my first love, and this show is about what happens when you leave the glitzy TV studio. It’s where the rubber meets the road.” And Shelton praised Sheridan for his vision for the new spin on television singing competitions: “When you get in the trenches with Taylor, it’s a completely differently thing when he’s in work mode. You can actually see the ideas, like smoke coming out of his ears when he’s working and thinking. He’s such a visionary and creative guy, and he can’t turn it off. It’s amazing when you’re sitting there and you can see the wheels turning.” Honestly, it’s nice to see a new spin on these “reality” competitions. It’s been years since shows like American Idol or The Voice have produced a superstar, and most of the time after the show’s over you don’t hear much from the artists anymore. This show sounds like it’s doing more than teaching artists how to be a singer: It’s teaching them how to be a performer and an entertainer. In a world where touring is the most important part of the music business for most artists, it’s cool to see a show that’s going to put the emphasis where it belongs. Lainey Wilson Bravely Covers The Beatles’ “Come Together” & Fans Are LOVING It

If you’re gonna choose to cover a song by The Beatles, you better bring it. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison came together in Liverpool in 1960, and the music world was never the same. The Beatles are easily the most famous and recognizable band in the history of music, and though there were only together for about 8 year (most people assume it was longer), they provided plenty of classic hits in that relatively short amount of time. One of their biggest songs that still has a lot of staying power in the modern day is “Come Together.” Released as a part of their 1969 project Abbey Road, the leadoff song of the album instantly connected with fans. Though the meaning of the song is up for interpretation (some say it’s political, some say it’s nonsensical), the melody and iconic chorus had even non-Beatles fans tapping their feet. And at one point, the track got the attention of country music superstar Lainey Wilson. Almost 60 years after the song was released, it’s found new life (not that it necessarily needed to) through a cover that was put out by Wilson as a part of her Apple Music Sessions release. As I stated earlier, covering The Beatles comes with a lot of pressure and expectations. Why cover a song – especially by the greatest band to ever exist – if it’s not going to contend with the original? Fortunately for Lainey Wilson, she’s never shied away from utilizing her powerful voice and country twang and applying it to a classic rock hit. She’s covered Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer” before, and she wasn’t afraid to tackle “Come Together” by The Beatles either. Here’s a short clip of it below: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Apple Music (@applemusic) Wow. The full version of the song can be heard exclusively on Apple Music (sorry Spotify users), and I’d highly recommend you go check it out. Lainey managed to find a way to both honor the classic and put her own spin on it, and that’s the tricky end goal of producing a cover song. And Lainey Wilson fans were loving it: “Never heard a cover of this song that I liked. Until now.” “Awesome version of this song.” “This gem will live on forever in my playlist!” “STOP IT. This is magnificent.” “LAINEY! You need to do more covers! I’ve got goosebumps.” “Awesome remake. Everything Lainey touches turns to gold.” “Never thought I would like a remake of come together… amazing!” To be frank, I didn’t think I’d ever like a remake of the The Beatles signature song either. Lainey Wilson proved me wrong. We should have seen the cover being included on her Apple Music Session coming, since the country music star deployed it while she was playing at Country 2 Country at The O2 Arena in London, England earlier this year. If Wilson went to Beatles country and played one of their hits, she’s certainly got a lot of confidence in her version of “Come Together.” As she should… I’ve got a good feeling her version would be Beatles approved: The post Lainey Wilson Bravely Covers The Beatles’ “Come Together” & Fans Are LOVING It first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
