Pope Leo Addresses “Inhumane” Treatment of Migrants

Pope Leo addressed the Fifth World Meeting of Popular Movements on Thursday. He talked about the climate, AI, social ills, Big Pharma, and drug trafficking, but, then he got to borders and the poor “migrants.” He Believes in Borders. He said countries must protect their borders. However, Pope Leo also said they must balance their […] The post Pope Leo Addresses “Inhumane” Treatment of Migrants appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

The Nation Finally Gets Its Inflation Report — And It’s Better Than The Experts Told Us It Would Be

It’s Friday, and we finally have inflation numbers. The report showed that inflation came in cooler than expected at 0.3% versus a forecast of 0.4%. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) completed the report nine days past the due date and five days before the Federal Open Market Committee’s (FOMC) decision. In a statement released today, Karoline Leavitt said, “Under President Trump, America is back – but inflation is not.”  Normally, the BLS releases the Consumer Price Index (CPI) report around the middle of the month, typically in the middle of the week. But America’s not in a normal situation, as today is the 24th day of the Democrat-led shutdown. To get the inflation numbers from the Social Security Administration (SSA), the Department of Labor brought back furloughed employees to complete September’s CPI report. The Social Security Administration uses CPI as a benchmark for cost-of-living adjustments when issuing benefit checks. The SSA needed September’s numbers. The FOMC decision will be based on the analysis of September’s CPI report. However, the looming FOMC decision wasn’t enough on its own to bring back the furloughed employees. And the Social Security Administration’s need for the numbers most likely won’t be enough to get a report generated for October.  Every month, the BLS dispatches staff to collect price data for everyday goods. Before the shutdown, they had already done their “field work” for September, allowing the Bureau of Labor Statistics to finalize the report. Since the lapse in appropriations, employees were not dispatched to gather data for October.     This month, the main driver of inflation was gasoline, which rose 4.1%. In times of high global tensions and uncertainty, this index typically increases. Wars and sanctions, or even the fear of them, can drive up gas demand, often raising prices. Sanctions and international conflict have the potential to cause shortages and supply shocks, sending the price of gasoline skyward.  On Thursday, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control expanded sanctions on Russia’s two largest oil companies. The effects of those sanctions will appear in the next report that the Bureau of Labor Statistics provides. Energy also rose 1.5%. In most years, energy typically falls as the cooler months approach. However, America is not in a normal year for energy. AI demands energy. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright stated in a letter to Congress this week that the “United States is experiencing an unprecedented surge in electricity demand.” AI Infrastructure and Data Centers require vast amounts of energy, and that demand is only expected to increase as the technology expands. Based on information provided by the U.S. Inflation Calculator, since Trump took office, inflation has averaged 2.65% each month. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) stated, “The inflation report today is just the latest warning sign that Donald Trump continues to squeeze the life out of working people in our economy.”  The Biden Administration had an inflation average of 4.9%. The Federal Reserve has a goal of keeping inflation at 2%.

‘Narco-Terrorists’: U.S. Destroys Tren De Aragua Drug Boat In Caribbean, Hegseth Says

U.S. forces carried out a tenth strike on a suspected drug boat, killing six Tren de Aragua “narco-terrorists” Thursday night in the Caribbean, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said. The “lethal kinetic strike” was the first to take place in the dead of night. It comes as the Trump administration ramps up a campaign of pressure against the Venezuelan regime over drug trafficking in the region. “The vessel was known by our intelligence to be involved in illicit narcotics smuggling, was transiting along a known narco-trafficking route, and carrying narcotics,” Hegseth wrote on X of the hit, which took place in international waters. Overnight, at the direction of President Trump, the Department of War carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by Tren de Aragua (TdA), a Designated Terrorist Organization (DTO), trafficking narcotics in the Caribbean Sea. The vessel was known by our… pic.twitter.com/lVlw0FLBv4 — Secretary of War Pete Hegseth (@SecWar) October 24, 2025 “If you are a narco-terrorist smuggling drugs in our hemisphere, we will treat you like we treat Al-Qaeda. Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, on whom the Trump administration has placed a $50 million bounty, labeled the strikes as “a military attack on civilians who were not at war and were not militarily threatening any country,” while accusing Trump of “seeking a regime change” in the Latin American country. Trump has signed off on a covert CIA operation in Venezuela against Maduro, who he believes is complicit in the drug trafficking campaign. B-1 bombers also flew within 50 miles of Venezuela in a massive show of force Thursday. U.S. Air Force and Marines flew B-52 bombers and F-35B jet fighters last week near an island off the coast of Venezuela in a show of force. Trump said Thursday that drug trafficking along waterways has plummeted as a result of U.S. military strikes. “Now, they’re coming in by land, and even the land is concerned because I told them that’s going to be next,” the president said. “We may go to the Congress and tell them about it, but I can’t imagine they would have any problem with it. I think, in fact, while we’re here, I think it’s a good idea, Pete, you go to Congress, you tell them about it. What are they going to do? Say, ‘gee, we don’t want to stop drugs pouring in?’ They’re killing 300,000 people per year.” On Wednesday, Maduro claimed that thousands of Russian-made anti-air missiles are at the ready to handle threats. “Any military force in the world knows the power of the Igla-S and Venezuela has no less than 5,000” of the missiles, Maduro said, according to CNN. Trump said last week that Maduro desperately offered “everything” to the U.S. “He’s offered everything,” said Trump. “You know why? Because he doesn’t want to f*** around with the United States.”

Trump Admin Finalizes Plans To Deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia To African Nation

The Trump administration says it has brokered a deal with Liberia to accept alleged MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia when he’s deported from the United States, according to a Friday court filing. Abrego Garcia presented a list of 20 countries he feared deportation to, but the list didn’t include Liberia, Justice Department lawyers wrote in the filing. The Trump administration is looking to deport him as early as October 31. Federal officials “have received diplomatic assurances regarding the treatment of third country individuals removed to Liberia from the United States and are making the final necessary arrangements for Petitioner’s removal.” The Trump administration deported Abrego Garcia, who entered the U.S. illegally in 2011, to his native El Salvador in June, despite an “administrative error.” He was brought back to the U.S. on human smuggling charges. Join us now during our exclusive Deal of the Decade. Get everything for $7 a month. Not as fans. As fighters. Go to DailyWire.com/Subscribe to join now. Video from a 2022 traffic stop in Tennessee showed Abrego Garcia in a car packed with eight other passengers, but no luggage. The group had been traveling for days from Texas as they headed to Maryland, and officers noted that Garcia was likely “hauling these people for money, probably to Maryland.” The van was filled with eight non-English-speaking men without licenses, save for Garcia, whose license had expired. Officers eventually released Abrego Garcia with a citation despite their suspicions. Upon Abrego Garcia’s return, the Trump administration commenced plans to remove him to a “third country.” The U.S. tried to deport him to Uganda and, initially, Costa Rica. But the new plan is “yet another path that feels designed to inflict maximum hardship,” Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, Abrego Garcia’s attorney, said, according to CBS News. “Their actions are punitive, cruel and unconstitutional,” Sandoval-Moshenberg said. “Unless Liberia guarantees that it will not re-deport Mr. Abrego Garcia to El Salvador, then sending him to Liberia is no less unlawful than sending him directly to El Salvador a second time.” Abrego Garcia’s wife received a temporary protective order against him in 2021, alleging her husband beat her on multiple occasions. She has since come to his defense as he faces a second possible deportation. Abrego Garcia was accused of being a member of MS-13 in a Maryland police report from 2019 and in a 2018 court filing.

U.S. Deploys Largest Aircraft Carrier To South America As Trump Hints At Land Strikes Against Cartels

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth dispatched the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group toward South America on Friday, as the United States continues to take out suspected drug traffickers in the Caribbean Sea and President Donald Trump hints at striking targets on land. The aircraft carrier strike group will assist in disrupting “narcotics trafficking” and countering “narco-terrorism” in the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) area of responsibility, Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a post on X. The SOUTHCOM region encompasses all of Central and South America, along with the Caribbean. “The enhanced U.S. force presence … will bolster U.S. capacity to detect, monitor, and disrupt illicit actors and activities that compromise the safety and prosperity of the United States homeland and our security in the Western Hemisphere,” he wrote. “These forces will enhance and augment existing capabilities to disrupt narcotics trafficking and degrade and dismantle TCOs [Transnational Criminal Organizations]. The USS Gerald Ford, America’s largest and most advanced aircraft carrier, is the flagship for Carrier Strike Group 12. The Strike Group also includes a Carrier Air Wing, a Cruiser, and Destroyers. The carrier group is set to join eight other American ships in the region, CBS News reported. The growing U.S. military presence near South America is part of Trump’s effort to take out drug cartels and prevent deadly drugs from reaching American shores. Trump has ordered 10 strikes against suspected drug runners in the Caribbean Sea, killing at least 43 people, while two other suspected cartel members have been captured. The president said on Wednesday that he would continue taking out suspected drug boats, adding that land strikes are “going to be next.” Trump said that the United States is “totally prepared” to hit targets seeking to traffic drugs into the United States by land. Join us now during our exclusive Deal of the Decade. Get everything for $7 a month. Not as fans. As fighters. Go to DailyWire.com/Subscribe to join now. “They’ll be coming in by land a little bit more because they’re not coming in by boat anymore. There are no boats in the water. There are no more boats,” Trump said, adding, “And we will hit them very hard when they come in by land.” The president’s boat strikes have focused on suspected cartel members coming out of Venezuela, enraging Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, who claims that the United States is seeking to force him out of power. Maduro has called the strikes “a military attack on civilians who were not at war and were not militarily threatening any country.” Some lawmakers in Washington, D.C., have expressed concern about Trump’s strikes on suspected drug runners, arguing that Congress must grant approval before the administration uses the military to target suspected narco-terrorists in international waters. Most Democrats and some Republicans have called for more oversight of the Trump administration’s military actions in the Caribbean. Republican Senators Mike Rounds (SD), Thom Tillis (NC), Todd Young (IN), and Susan Collins (ME), have all made public calls for more Congressional oversight on the strikes. “This is a legitimate discussion between the two branches of government that we should always be having,” said Tillis. “I think we’ve got to be very careful when you’re talking about ordering a kinetic strike.” Senators Rand Paul (KY) and Lisa Murkowski (AK) have taken their opposition to Trump’s strikes a step further, joining with most Democrats earlier this month in an effort to pass a measure stopping the military action. Paul introduced the measure alongside Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), but it ultimately failed. Rounds, Young, Tillis, and Collins all voted against the measure, as did Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania. Trump said on Thursday that he doesn’t need to ask for a declaration of war to carry out the strikes. “I think we’re just going to kill people that are bringing drugs into our country, OK? We’re going to kill them, you know? They are going to be, like, dead,” he said. He added that he might “go to Congress” to inform them about the land strikes, saying, “I can’t imagine they would have any problem.” The Trump administration has told the American people that the strikes are conducted based on credible intelligence that marks the targets as cartel members.

Canada Caves: Ontario To Yank ‘Fake’ Reagan Ad After Pressure From Trump

The liberal Canadian premier who launched a $75 million anti-tariff ad campaign in the United States featuring former President Ronald Reagan will yank the effort after pressure from President Donald Trump. Ontario Premier Doug Ford said Friday afternoon that he would pause the ad campaign put out by his administration targeting Americans starting on Monday. That announcement came after Trump on Thursday said he had ended all trade talks with Canada over the ad, calling it an effort to influence American politics. “Our intention was always to initiate a conversation about the kind of economy that Americans want to build and the impact of tariffs on workers and businesses,” Ford posted on X. “We’ve achieved our goal, having reached U.S. audiences at the highest levels. I’ve directed my team to keep putting our message in front of Americans over the weekend so that we can air our commercial during the first two World Series games.” Ford said he would “pause [the] U.S. advertising campaign effective Monday so that trade talks can resume” after speaking with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The ad campaign aired in the United States during a playoff baseball game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners. Game 1 of the World Series takes place Friday night, featuring the Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers. It’s official: Ontario’s new advertising campaign in the U.S. has launched. Trump on Thursday said that the ad manipulated Reagan’s words. “The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The ad was for $75,000,000. They only did this to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, and other courts. TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A. Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED.” Trump’s post followed a statement from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute saying that it was pursuing potential legal options over Ontario’s use of the audio. The foundation encouraged people to watch Reagan’s full remarks on its YouTube channel.
