What’s Next for MTG’s Bill Ending Trans Surgeries for Minors?

What’s Next for MTG’s Bill Ending Trans Surgeries for Minors?

The House of Representatives passed a bill to make it a felony to facilitate transgender procedures on minors Wednesday, but does it have any shot of becoming law? The bill, titled the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, passed by a 216-to-211 margin. Three Democrats, Reps. Don Davis of North Carolina, Vicente Gonzalez of Texas, and Henry Cuellar of Texas, joined 213 Republicans in support of the legislation introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga. But 4 Republicans joined 207 Democrats in opposition: Reps. Mike Lawler of New York, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Mike Kennedy of Utah, and Gabe Evans of Colorado. What could the opposition of a small number of House GOP moderates bode for the bill that now heads to the Senate? A First for This Congress Greene’s bill would make performing transgender surgeries or procedures on minors a felony. The House vote on Wednesday was the first time this Congress Republicans had brought a ban on transgender procedures and surgeries for minors to the floor despite the fact that President Donald Trump had issued an executive order on the matter in January. Offenders would face a penalty of up to 10 years in federal prison, with fines on the table, as well. The bill expands the definition of chemical castration and genital or bodily mutilation in the federal code to a variety of transgender chemical and surgical procedures. It also provides exemptions for treatment of rare conditions and medical emergencies. There are no exemptions for mental health-related issues. What Could Happen in the Senate? The bill would need to reach the 60-vote threshold for ending debate in order to come to a final vote in the Senate. Unfortunately for Republicans, there’s no guarantee Democrats will get on board. In January, zero Democrats voted to end debate on a bill introduced by Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., to deny federal funding to schools that allow transgender-identifying male athletes to compete against females. Greene’s bill likely falls under the jurisdiction of the Senate judiciary committee, chaired by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa. Grassley’s office did not respond to a request for comment on whether they were interested in advancing the bill. But while Democrats are likely to prevent the law from passing, a vote on Greene’s legislation on the Senate could be worthwhile for Republicans heading into a midterm election. Vulnerable Senate Democrats are looking to appear as moderates heading into the 2026 midterm elections, but recorded votes on refusing to ban transgender surgeries for minors are one of the ways Republicans could look to dispel that narrative. Other Ways to Ban Trans for Minors? It comes to the Senate amid a continued debate over health care premium affordability, which has intersected with the transgender issue.  Last week, 51 Republicans voted to advance a bill from Republican Sens. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana and Mike Crapo of Idaho to provide an alternative to the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits, which included provisions to prevent taxpayer funds from going to transgender procedures. It was nine votes shy of the threshold needed to come to a vote. Cassidy is the chair of the Senate health, education, labor, and pensions (HELP) committee, which handles most matters related to health care, and told The Daily Signal he wishes to prevent transgender treatments for minors. “President Trump and I are committed to protecting children from chemical and surgical castration,” the Senator, who is also a practicing physician, told The Daily Signal. “I look forward to reviewing the bill, and will continue working with President Trump and Republican colleagues to protect children from irreversible harm.” Trump Administration Moves to Ban Federal Funds for Trans-ing Kids Cassidy was in attendance at a Thursday Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) event, in which secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced a new policy preventing federal taxpayer funds from going to the procedures. Just left HHS, where it was announced federal tax dollars will NOT pay for sex-change surgeries for children. I've pushed for this in the Senate. It’s wrong, and it’s stopping now. Thank you, @POTUS & @SecKennedy!! pic.twitter.com/vxPLeMUG81— U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (@SenBillCassidy) December 18, 2025 “It’s wrong. It’s stopping now,” Cassidy said in a video posted to X. “I’ve been pushing this as the chairman of the [HELP committee]. I’m glad to see the administration agrees with me.” The post What’s Next for MTG’s Bill Ending Trans Surgeries for Minors? appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Yes, Virginia. You Elected Santa Claus.

The late Rush Limbaugh posited in 2012 that it would be very difficult to win an election over Santa Claus. Meaning that someone who is just seen as bringing gifts will always be popular, and—with apologies to New York newspaper editor Francis Church—yes, Virginia. You just elected Santa Claus.  Both Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger and Lt. Gov.-elect Ghazala Hashmi have spoken since the election of their plans to lower the costs of things like electricity and housing on Virginians. However, as is often the case, details are sketchy.  For example, she told WUSA in Washington, D.C., “I think people will see a common theme on getting things done and improving on people’s lives,” which is hard to find in the Virginia Constitution.   “Lowering the cost” is most frequently code for subsidizing. This is a bipartisan truism. Republicans will often acquiesce to subsidy rather than try to make the case for free-market solutions. If you are explaining, you are losing, they say.   Subsidies increase the cost of goods or services because the provider no longer is under pressure to consider the ability of the end-user to pay what it would reasonably cost. This frequently causes the provider to choose more expensive ways of creating the product often to prove to the subsidizer that they are worthy of continued receipt.   The losers in this are the consumers that did not qualify for the subsidy, often only by a small margin leaving them well short of being able to afford the “full freight” cost.  The incoming administration will have two primary choices in how to accomplish this subsidization, supply-side or consumer-side. The latter is simpler but less common because the subsidy comes from the government, and if the consumer fails to keep their qualification, it will be on the government to tell them they are out of luck.   Think of SNAP benefits as a recent example. You can imagine that a new governor wouldn’t want to take that hit.   Supply side is more convoluted but because it insulates the elected official from being directly blamed for the loss of benefits it is more frequently how it works. Think of most Section 8 housing or how most of the current electric cost subsidies work. The provider trades the position of having to play the “bad guy” for a predictable stream of semi-paid bills. The phrase “some money is better than no money” applies here.  In either event, this will require tax-paying Virginians to carry more of this burden through higher taxes, fees and, of course, in the prices of the things that the governor will try and “lower the cost of.”   The secondary effect of this campaign often manifests in job losses and that will further strain Virginia’s economy, which has been on the recovery trail for the past four years.  Spanberger will likely try to stave this off with workforce subsidy, and now you are starting to sense how this becomes a self-fulfilling process. Support people in need with tax dollars, create economic damage with those taxes, then create more people that need assistance.  The incoming governor has said that she favors streamlining the regulations in the home-building process to create more inventory, but localities have balked at that in past administrations.  Here comes Santa Claus. At least we don’t need to leave her milk and cookies. We publish a variety of perspectives. Nothing written here is to be construed as representing the views of The Daily Signal. The post Yes, Virginia. Today's Highlights: What MRC's Media Watchdogs Are Saying

MRC Watchdogs churn out breaking news on a daily basis. Don't miss Today's Highlights, where you can keep up with the top MRC content, whether it's the latest study on media bias, a glaring omission from the elitist media, or how the Big Tech companies are serving up the same leftist spin as the media.  Top Stories: 1) Whoopi Claims ‘Warrior Dividends’ Are Bribe to Follow Illegal Orders 2) White House, Analysts Cheer Cooler-than-Expected November Inflation 3) The Media Research Center Award for Worst Quote of the Year 4) Trump Sues BBC for Defamation, Wants $10 Billion for Mangled January 6 Edit     Whoopi Claims ‘Warrior Dividends’ Are Bribe to Follow Illegal Orders The View’s anti-military bent from most of the year came to ahead on Thursday’s show as ABC News moderator Whoopi Goldberg asserted, without evidence, that President Trump’s announced “warrior dividends” (a $1,776 pay bonus) where about bribing service members to follow illegal orders. Additionally, co-host Joy Behar was outraged that Trump had the nerve to call President Obama a “divisive” figure. For which, she demanded the invocation of the 25th Amendment. Labeling historical or political assessments as grounds for removal from office trivializes actual constitutional standards and serves only to deepen national polarization. The suggestion that a one-time bonus of $1,776 could somehow compromise the oath of the entire U.S. military is not only logically flawed but also demonstrates a lack of respect for the moral compass of American soldiers. This narrative presumes that service members are motivated by financial handouts rather than duty, honor, and the Constitution.       2. White House, Analysts Cheer Cooler-than-Expected November Inflation The November CPI report showed a year-over-year inflation rate of 2.7%, significantly lower than the 3.1% economists had predicted. More importantly, "core" inflation (which excludes volatile food and energy) fell to 2.6%, its lowest level since March 2021. This suggests that despite warnings from critics that new economic policies or tariffs would spike prices, the "affordability gap" is actually closing and inflation is cooling faster than even the most optimistic Wall Street estimates. These numbers are a definitive turning point away from the "inflation crisis" of the previous years. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and economic commentators are highlighting that the 2.6% core inflation rate is a major achievement when compared to the 9% peaks seen during the Biden administration. The economy is being "brought back" through a trend of lower prices and higher "real wage growth" for the average American. While the overall number is 2.7%, many specific categories that impact daily life are seeing even more dramatic improvements or actual price drops. Travel and Energy: Airline fares are down 5.4% and certain heating fuels (propane/kerosene) are down 5.9% year-over-year. Groceries: While meat and poultry remain high, the cost of "food at home" rose only 1.9%, and egg prices have plummeted 13.2%.  Main Street is finally seeing relief in the specific areas that previously "lit the economy on fire."        3. The Media Research Center Award for Worst Quote of the Year Liberal media figures exploit tragedy to blame victims: Just hours after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, former MS Now contributor Matthew Dowd suggested on air that Kirk's own "hateful words" and "divisive" rhetoric likely provoked the attack, even floating the idea that the shooter could have been a supporter "celebrating,” a vile insinuation that led to Dowd's firing and exemplifies how left-leaning pundits rush to smear conservatives rather than condemn violence. Mainstream hosts politicize assassinations without backlash: First runner-up Jimmy Kimmel accused "MAGA" supporters of desperately trying to distance themselves from Kirk's killer and scoring "political points," ignoring facts while framing conservatives as the real villains in the tragedy, highlighting the unchecked bias where late-night "comedians" freely demonize one side without professional consequences. Left-wing commentators openly disdain America's founding documents: Runners-up like Elie Mystal, The Nation justice correspondent, (calling the U.S. Constitution "a piece of crap" compared to South Africa's post-apartheid version) and Sunny Hostin, co-host of The View, (equating the potential cancellation of Stephen Colbert's show to the "dismantling of our democracy and Constitution") reveal a deep-seated contempt among liberal elites for America's core principles, treating them as obsolete or threats when they conflict with progressive agendas.       4.Trump Sues BBC for Defamation, Wants $10 Billion for Mangled January 6 Edit Deceptive and Grotesque Editing: The BBC engaged in deceptive and grotesque editing of President Trump's speech from January 6, 2021, with the intent to make it appear like he urged violence. Proof of Media Bias: The incident demonstrates that "Trump Derangement Syndrome" infected the BBC's editorial choices, challenging the narrative that the British public broadcaster is apolitical and impartial. Intentional Malice: President Trump’s lawsuit alleges the BBC "intentionally, maliciously and deceptively" edited his January 6, 2021 speech by splicing together remarks that were delivered nearly an hour apart. Holding "Fake News" Accountable: This is part of a larger effort to hold media organizations responsible for a "long pattern of deceiving its audience... all in service of its own leftist political agenda." Strategic Timing to Fuel Political Pressure: President Trump strategically filed the $10 billion lawsuit just hours before the UK government began its once-a-decade review of the BBC's Royal Charter, which expires at the end of 2027, maximizing the pressure on the public broadcaster.  Every UK Household pays the equivalent of about $225 each year to subsidize the BBC.

Brent Bozell Confirmed as U.S. Ambassador to South Africa

On Thursday, the U.S. Senate confirmed Media Research Center founder and President Emeritus L. Brent Bozell III as U.S. Ambassador to South Africa, despite obstructionist tactics by Democrats. By a 53-43 evening vote, the Senate approved Bozell to fill the post vacated by former ambassador Reuben Brigety, who resigned in January. “I am honored to have this opportunity to advance America’s relationship with South Africa and deeply grateful for the faith President Trump has placed in my ability and commitment to do so,” Bozell said following Thursday’s vote. “I look forward to serving his administration and the nation in this important diplomatic mission,” the newly-confirmed ambassador added. Bozell served as president of the Media Research Center from its founding in 1987 until May of this year when he stepped down in order to answer Trump's call to serve in the administration. His son, ForAmerica President David Bozell, now leads the Media Research Center. As ambassador, Bozell will serve as President Trump’s highest-ranking representative and chief diplomat in South Africa. He will manage the U.S. embassy, oversee all U.S. operations and policy negotiations in South Africa. Ambassador Bozell will also address U.S. human rights concerns concerning his host country, such as accusations that genocide against White descendants of European settlers (Afrikaners) is taking place in the country. Senate Democrats had employed obstructionist tactics to prevent confirmation of Trump’s nominees en masse, forcing Republicans to use their majority to change procedural rules in order to obtain confirmation votes.

Kimmel Decries Administration For Saying 'Men Are Men' Without Medical Degrees

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel closed the book on 2025 on Thursday by doing his best imitation of Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. If Jackson claims she can’t define what a woman is because she’s not a biologist, Kimmel claims that Trump administration officials are out of their depth for claiming that “men are men” and “women are women” because they do not have medical degrees. Kimmel began by introducing a clip of Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Dr. Mehmet Oz, after the administration announced on Thursday that hospitals that provide gender-altering treatments to minors will be ineligible for Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement. He quipped, “And then we have JFK's other nephew, the nutty one, who held a press conference with Dr. Oz this afternoon to announce that the government is cracking down on ‘Transgender for everyone.’ Bobby Brain Worm and Mehmet the Frog are finally putting a stop to something that almost never happens: children having sex change operations, which Oz will tell you costs a lot.     Liberals like Kimmel never explain why they act like “almost never happens” is the same as “never happens.” Nevertheless, in the clip, Oz declared, “Shockingly, a phalloplasty, the creation of a penis, costs on average, in America, according to this data, high quality, $150,000 per child [jump cut] And I must point out that the creation of a vagina in that case, of a phalloplasty, or a scrotoplasty, where you add testicles, that’s extra.” Kimmel, for some reason, thought that was amusing and then introduced another clip, “Yeah. That's how they get ya, you know. You go in for—you think you're just going in for a penis, the testicles are part of a set. Nope. They don't even come in pairs. You pay per ball for those. And then Dr. Oz ceded the podium to the deputy secretary of Health and Human Services, Mr. Jim O’Neill, who broke it down for those who, like him, do not have a medical degree.” O’Neill was then shown gravely proclaiming that “Men are men. Men can never become women. Women are women. Women can never become men.” Also finding O’Neill’s solemnity amusing, Kimmel retorted, “My god, he's heartbroken. That is one of the saddest mantras I've ever heard recited. Why do I get the idea he's saying that to himself in the mirror every night?” Kimmel then played a truncated version of the same clip, but with O’Neill wearing a computer-generated wig and woman’s shirt, “Men are men. Men can never become women.” Lamenting the whole thing, Kimmel concluded, “You see that. Never say never, Jim. You have to believe in yourself. And you have to be yourself. This is what they're talking about. A three-year old knows that men are men and women are women, but for ABC’s funny man, such observations can only be discerned after acquiring an advanced degree. Here is a transcript for the December 18 show: ABC Jimmy Kimmel Live! 11/18/2025 11:43 PM ET JIMMY KIMMEL: And then we have JFK's other nephew, the nutty one, who held a press conference with Dr. Oz this afternoon to announce that the government is cracking down on "Transgender for everyone." Bobby Brain Worm and Mehmet the Frog are finally putting a stop to something that almost never happens: children having sex change operations, which Oz will tell you costs a lot. 'I'll get the heat': Milwaukee judge is now a convicted felon after violent illegal alien dodged ICE from her courtroom

Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan tried her best to avoid consequence for her role in Eduardo Flores-Ruiz — an illegal alien from Mexico who later pled no contest to one count of battery and guilty to re-entering the U.S. — briefly evading U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Her best was evidently not good enough.Dugan, relieved of her duties as a judge in April by the Supreme Court of Wisconsin, was found guilty on Thursday of obstructing federal agents — a felony. The jury did not, however, find Dugan guilty of the lesser misdemeanor charge of concealing a fugitive from justice.'Dugan's actions to obstruct this violent criminal’s arrest take "activist judge" to a whole new meaning.'"The defendant is certainly not evil nor is she a martyr for some greater cause," Brad Schimel, the interim U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, told reporters after Dugan learned her fate. "We must all accept the verdict peacefully."Schimel emphasized that "experience and common sense as well as the evidence presented in this case" demonstrate that the safest place to execute an arrest warrant is within a public area of a courthouse that has security screening — and that the 66-year-old judge's actions endangered multiple people."The defendant's actions provided an opportunity for a wanted subject to flee outside that safe courthouse environment, which led to a dangerous foot chase through automobile traffic and eventually to an agent taking the subject to the ground, which is always hazardous for both the officer and the suspect," said Schimel. "There was certainly potential for many other dangers as well."RELATED: 'Truly wicked': Trump administration blasts Obama judge over praise of illegal alien who raped disabled American woman Photo by Scott Olson/Getty ImagesICE agents accompanied by both FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration agents traveled to the Milwaukee County Courthouse on April 18, 2025, to arrest Flores-Ruiz, aware that the previously deported Mexican national was scheduled to attend a pre-trial hearing overseen by Dugan.Upon learning of ICE's presence from an attorney, the now-felonious judge "became visibly angry, commented that the situation was 'absurd,' left the bench, and entered chambers" while Flores-Ruiz was seated in the gallery of the courtroom, according to the original FBI charging document. The indictment claimed that Dugan proceeded to commit several affirmative acts to aid the illegal alien in evading arrest, including:confronting members of the ICE task force and falsely telling them they needed a judicial warrant to effectuate the arrest; directing the federal agents to go to the chief judge's office after she learned they had the required administrative warrant for Flores-Ruiz's arrest;dealing with Flores-Ruiz's criminal case off the record while the ICE task force was in the chief judge's office;directing the illegal alien and his counsel to flee the courtroom via a non-public jury door; and advising the Mexican's counsel that he could appear remotely for his next court date. The judge's actions were observed by multiple witnesses and captured on film. — (@) With Dugan's help, the Mexican national ran out of the building. Federal agents were, however, able to catch up with him.Flores-Ruiz was ultimately deported on Nov. 13.Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, noted at the time, "Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, a previously removed illegal alien, has a laundry list of violent criminal charges, including strangulation and suffocation, battery, and domestic abuse. Judge Hannah Dugan's actions to obstruct this violent criminal’s arrest take 'activist judge' to a whole new meaning."In the lead-up to the trial, Dugan's lawyers tried desperately to get her case dismissed, citing the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Trump v. United States and claiming that the radical judge was immune from criminal prosecution for judicial acts, that her prosecution violates the limits of federal power under the 10th Amendment, and that her indictment should be dismissed under the canon of constitutional avoidance.Such efforts proved fruitless. The jury saw and heard plenty of damning evidence during the trial that began on Monday. They heard, for instance, an audio recording where Dugan told a court reporter that Flores-Ruiz could escape through a side door, reported the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.Although Dugan's court reporter volunteered to walk the illegal alien out, Dugan said she instead would do it: "I'll get the heat."The jury also heard from numerous witnesses, including Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Kristela Cervera, who testified, "Judges should not be helping defendants evade arrest."Cervera was the individual who escorted the federal agents to Chief Judge Carl Ashley's office. For her felony conviction, Dugan could face up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.The disgraced judge's attorney, Steve Biskupic, indicated Dugan's team will file a motion with the Clinton-appointed federal judge overseeing the case, U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman, asking to set aside the conviction."The case is a long way from over," said Biskupic. While Dugan has been on administrative leave for several months, the New York Times indicated she has continued to collect her $174,000 salary.Like Blaze News? Suspect in deadly Brown University shooting and fatal shooting of MIT professor found dead of self-inflicted gunshot wound

The suspect in the fatal shootings at Brown University last weekend and of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor just days later was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Thursday night in Salem, New Hampshire, officials said. The body of Claudio Neves Valente, 48 — a former Brown student and a Portuguese national — was found in a storage facility, WCVB-TV reported.'We don’t know why now, why Brown, why these students, and why this classroom.'Earlier Thursday multiple reports indicated a person of interest had been identified in the Brown shooting, which took the lives of two students and wounded nine others Saturday at the Ivy League school in Providence, Rhode Island. Authorities also were investigating possible ties between the Brown shooting and the fatal shooting Monday of MIT professor Nuno Loureiro at his home in Brookline, Massachusetts.Providence police released several images and videos of a person of interest in the days following the deadly Brown shooting with no apparent luck.RELATED: Person of interest ID'd in deadly Brown U. shooting; warrant issued: Multiple reports Image source: Providence (R.I.) PoliceBut police told WCVB a witness provided investigators with a key tip: He saw someone who looked like the person of interest with a Nissan sedan displaying Florida plates. That bit of information led Providence police to dive into a network of more than 70 street cameras operated around the city by surveillance company Flock Safety, the station said, adding that those cameras track license plates and other vehicle details.Providence officials said the suspect then placed a Maine license plate over the rental car’s plate to help conceal his identity after he left Rhode Island for Massachusetts, WCVB reported. The station said in a separate story that surveillance video from MIT professor Loureiro's Brookline neighborhood allegedly shows the gunman there days before the deadly shooting, according to Leah B. Foley, United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts.Investigators said video from inside Loureiro's apartment shows Neves Valente wearing a specific set of clothes before shooting the professor in the lobby Monday, WCVB reported.A neighbor said in a WBZ-TV video report that the fatal shooting of Loureiro was a "surprise ... and a shooting in a state where it's so hard to even have a gun?" The neighbor also said fellow neighbors noted a nearby car was "parked in the wrong direction" and "seemed to be waiting."RELATED: Prominent MIT professor — reportedly Jewish, pro-Israel — shot to death in his home; no suspect in custody Hours after the Loureiro shooting, Foley said surveillance video from a storage unit facility in Salem, New Hampshire, shows the gunman wearing the same clothes seen on the Brookline cameras, the station added. Neves Valente was found dead inside the storage facility Thursday night.Brown University President Christina Paxson said Neves Valente was enrolled at the college from the fall of 2000 to the spring of 2001, the station said, adding that he was admitted to the graduate school to study physics beginning in September 2000.
