Fox News learned the shooter’s mother, Mary Grace Westman, has retained criminal defense attorney Ryan Garry. When asked why the mother obtained a criminal attorney, Garry told Fox, “She is completely distraught about the situation and has no culpability but is seeking an attorney to deal with calls like this.” Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said dozens of interviews have been conducted with the shooter’s relatives, friends and associates and those who witnessed the carnage unfold at Annunciation Catholic Church. “I know we have not been successful in talking to the shooter’s mother, yet, at this time,” O’Hara said during a news conference Thursday. “But there continue to be efforts made to get that done.” Court documents show the shooter’s mother applied for her son to legally change his name, writing in 2019, “minor identifies as female and wants her name to reflect the identification.” It is not clear why the shooter’s mother is not cooperating with investigators. When asked by a reporter on Thursday if investigators had been in touch with the shooter’s father, O’Hara initially said he could not confirm that. In a twisted handwritten journal he shared on YouTube before the massacre — much of which is encrypted in a homespun code of Russian Cyrillic script and English words — Westman groaned about his long hair and his decision to transition. “I only keep [the long hair] because it is pretty much my last shred of being trans. I am tired of being trans, I wish I never brain-washed myself,” he wrote, according to a translation by The Post. “I can’t cut my hair now as it would be an embarrassing defeat, and it might be a concerning change of character that could get me reported. It just always gets in my way. I will probably chop it on the day of the attack.” “I regret being trans.. I wish I was a girl I just know I cannot achieve that body with the technology we have today. I also can’t afford that,” he said. Westman opened fire on the Annunciation Catholic Church and School Wednesday morning while students were praying at Mass, killing two kids and wounding 17 others before taking his own life. Westman applied to change his birth name from Robert to Robin in Dakota County, Minn., when he was 17 years old, according to court documents. That name change was granted in January 2020. The petition noted that Westman “identifies as a female and wants her name to reflect that identification.” But, five years later, he seemed to have shrunk away from his new identity, scribbling on another page of the notebook “I don’t want to dress girly all the time but I guess sometimes I really like it. I know I am not a woman but I definitely don’t feel like a man.” Westman’s chilling writings revealed his violent fantasies about killing children, including wanting to be the “scary horrible monster standing over those powerless kids.” He also glorifies the Sandy Hook massacre, in which 20 schoolchildren were killed. Westman’s videos, posted hours before the shootings, also show the phrases “kill Donald Trump” and “for the children” scrawled on gun magazines. The Trump administration's border czar announced Friday that federal officials have found tens of thousands of the missing children lost under the Biden administration.Tom Homan made the comments on Fox News as the administration released some data about President Donald Trump's mass deportation efforts."Out of the 300,000 children — I looked at the numbers just yesterday — we've located over 23,000 of them," Homan said.'That's a big plus for the administration because the last administration wasn't even looking for them.'"So 23,000 locations of 300,000.
