A Spot Of Business And Walk Around Dagenham In The Early 1990s
J D Morris, Vehicle Repairs, Selinas Lane, Chadwell Heath, Barking & Dagenham, 1996
Dagenham in East London doesn’t hit the news cycle all that often. It did when US motor company Ford moved its car plant to Dagenham and again when it was closed. Posters bearing the town’s name appeared when the singer Morrissey released the song Dagenham Dave in 1995. The cover showed a picture of Dagenham-born footballer Terry Venables sticking out his tongue. A track of the same name by The Stranglers had appeared in their 1977 album, No More Heroes. ”
That’s not too much for a placed that first appeared in a document (Dæccanhaam) in a charter of Barking Abbey dating from 666 AD. In the mid 1990s, Peter Marshall went to have a look around the place, taking pictures of the everyday things he saw.
